Main Pick

Artist: Killa Kyleon and Rapid Ric

Representing: Houston

Mixtape: Candy Paint & Texas Plates 2

Real Spit: Killa Kyleon may still be making a name from himself in rap, but the Houston MC is no rookie.

The seasoned Southern spitter got his start running alongside Big Pokey, Chris Ward and DJ Screw's Screwed Up Click, before really making an impact with Slim Thug's group Boss Hogg Outlawz. It's his gruff vocal tone, butter flow and hard-nosed lyrics that make Killa Kyleon a fan favorite. On his latest mixtape, Candy Paint N Texas Plates 2, Killa puts it all on display.

With the tape's 21 soul-drenched tracks, Killa Ky hooks up notable producers like Lex Luger, Cookin' Soul and Cy Frye to lay his sound bed. On "Top Down," Killa spits over a dreamy loop that incorporates a small sample from the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1995 song "Who Shot Ya," so it's only right that Kyleon tries his hand over the classic Biggie beat on the next track.

His inspiration isn't all rap. On "Bodies Hit the Floor," Killa recruits Bun B and producer Lex Luger to add a hip-hop twist to Drowning Pool's 2001 metal track "Bodies." It doesn't stop there: On "Hustler's Prayer," Big K.R.I.T. samples Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" as Ky goes in lyrically against his rap competitors. ("Lyin' about they real on these records in front of cameramen/ Run a background check, them n---as fake as mannequins."

Mac Miller joins in on "Come on Baby," and "Letter to Pimp C" is a heartfelt dedication track to the fallen UGK pioneer. Whether from the Deep South, Northeast or West Coast, Killa Kyleon's Candy Paints & Texas Plates 2 has something for every hip-hop fan.

Joints to Check For
» "Bodies Hit the Floor." "We did a rendition of the track ['Bodies'] by Drowning Pool," Killa said. "We took that, put a little street flip on it, man, put a little Texas style with it, added a little flavor with the homeboy Lex Luger."

» "Who Shot Ya." "It's my remix of Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Who Shot Ya,' " Ky said. "I just wanted to pay a little bit of homage to the big homie. That's one of my favorite rappers, one of my favorite top two rappers in the game. I just wanted to take the track, do my little flip on it, man."

Video After The Jump

There was plenty of star power at the iHeartTadio Music Festival over the weekend. Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Scherzinger, Nicki Minaj and more all took their turns on the main stage.

Nicki had quite a few people talking about her colorful wardrobe, which was highlighted by a pink chicken wing necklace.

The success of her single "Super Bass" and the Young Money rapper's sophomore album were also a topics of conversation when Billboard caught up with her on the red carpet of the event.

"I want to publicly say again that Taylor Swift really launched that single [Super Bass] into another stratosphere, with just tweeting about it and rapping it and stuff. I performed it with Taylor, and she's so cute, and she's like a big bowl of ice cream!" Minaj said before briefly talking about her next album. "All I can say is that Roman will definitely be a humongous part of the follow-up to 'Pink Friday,' I'm working on it, and the fans are gonna get their life and then some."

Jay-Z was in a really great mood Monday (September 26) when he sat down with Fox 5's "Good Day New York" to announce a name change for the New Jersey Nets basketball team.

"We've decided that the final name would be the Brooklyn Nets," said Hov, who is a minority owner in the team. "I'm giddy right now."

The team will be moving into Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn next year. To celebrate Hov will be performing eight shows at the 18,000 seat venue.

"I'm going to open the building with a couple of concerts... maybe like eight," Jay said.

Singer Keyshia Cole's biological mom Frankie Lyons is out looking to gain attention for something other than drug arrests.

She just recorded a new song introducing her new dance "The Frankie Leg." I don't think this will be catching on anytime soon.

Singer Ray-J and boxer Victor Ortiz were on different teams the night of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Ortiz fight last weekend, but that hasn't stopped the two of them from collaborating outside the ring.

TMZ got their hands on a DJ Ian Carey song that features Ray J singing and Ortiz rapping a short verse.

No word on whose project this will end up on.
What do you think of the song?

If you thought American Idol had all of the horrible singers and trolls to themselves, think again. The American version of X-Factor made its debut this week, and the clowns came out of the woodwork.

Judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul try to sift through the garbage to find some talented individuals, but they won't come from the group below.

Check out the best of some of the worst auditions so far.

T.I. is currently in an Atlanta halfway house wrapping up an 11-month sentence for violating his probation.

The rapper is allowed to work however, and has been knocking out tunes with Pharell Williams and Big K.R.I.T.

DJ Drama says the Grand Hustle CEO is working at a rapid pace.

"I was in there the other day, by the second day that I went in I had already heard like 13, 14 songs; new songs," Drama told XXL. "Pharrell came the other day when I was in there. He dropped off a couple new joints. He already sent something the day before. That was done.

Tip is expected to drop a new song next week featuring Big K.R.I.T.

T.I.'s incarceration may have actually benefited one of his business ventures. A rep for his AKOO clothing line told TMZ that sales increased 25% while the rapper was away.

In addition to all the other things he's involved in, T.I. will be releasing a new fictional book titled Power & Beauty October 18. Check out the cover for it below.

Audio After The Jump

Max-B is currently a 75-year sentence in New Jersey State Penitentiary in Trenton, for his alleged role in a 2005 robbery turned murder in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

It's not easy to keep your name in the streets when you're doing time, but Max has been working hard to do just that. The Boss Don released his Vigilante Season album earlier this year, has dropped several jailhouse freestyles and has started a new webisode titled "Mentally Wavey."

In the first episode Max talks to Mikey T about being influenced by 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z.

He also speaks on the legacy he wants to leave behind.

Poll After The Jump

With a net worth of around $550 million, Diddy has been picked by Forbes as the front runner to become hip-hop's first billionaire.

However, the Bad Boy CEO does have competition. Jay-Z ($450 million), Dr. Dre ($250 million), Birdman ($110 million) and 50 Cent ($100 million) are all in the running.

Birdman thinks he will beat Diddy to the Forbes 400 list.

I think Young Money Cash Money would be the first billion-dollar brand in hip-hop,” said Birdman in an email message to Forbes. “We strong and growing every day as a brand and fast. Within the next few years we will be billionaires.”

Meanwhile 50 Cent sees Hov as his main competition. He told Forbes' Zack O'Malley Greenburg, that he and Jay-Z use each other for motivation.

"We use each other," 50 explained. "If you're in a category, you have to find someone you respect enough to consider a competitor. And then you use each other in positive ways. They make a good move, you make a good move. If there's nobody for that, then there's no inspiration."

50 did concede that Jigga has an unfair advantage.

"He cheated," 50 said, grinning. "See, he hired this girl ..."

Who do you think will get to a billion first?
