BOLIVIA, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man who won a $10 million lottery prize in 2017 has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the 2020 fatal shooting of his girlfriend.
Michael Todd Hill, 54, of Leland, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced Friday in the killing of 23-year-old Keonna Graham of Navassa. Graham was reported missing on July 20, 2020. She was later found dead in a hotel with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
In a news release from the 15th Prosecutorial District of North Carolina, prosecutors said surveillance footage from the hotel showed Hill was the only person in the room with Graham. They said Hill later confessed to shooting Graham after she had been texting with other men while at the hotel.
Hill won $10 million from a scratch-off ticket in August 2017.

DALLAS (AP) — Jeff Gladney, a defensive back for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, died Monday in a car crash in Dallas. He was 25.
Gladney’s death was confirmed by the Cardinals and his agent.
“We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s passing. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss,” the team said.
The crash occurred on the service road of Woodall Rodgers Freeway in Dallas. Another person also died.
The Dallas County sheriff’s department said no one was available on the Memorial Day holiday to talk about the crash.
Gladney played at TCU before becoming a 2020 first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings. He played in 16 games that year but was released before the 2021 season, when he was charged with assaulting a woman.
Gladney was found not guilty in Dallas County, Texas, in March and was subsequently signed by the Cardinals. He participated in team drills last week.
“We are asking prayers for the family and privacy at this most difficult time,” agent Brian Overstreet said.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A 10-year-old Florida fifth grade student has been arrested after making a school threat.
Investigators learned of the threats made by the boy on Saturday & arrested him, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a social media post.
“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” the sheriff said.
An 18-year-old gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday & opened fire on a fourth grade classroom, killing 19 students & 2 teachers.
Marceno said that making sure “our children are safe is paramount.”
Investigators learned of a threatening text message sent by the boy, who attended Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral.
“We will have law & order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat,” Marceno said.
He said the school threat enforcement team was notified & began analytical research on the threat. Detectives then interviewed the boy & developed probable cause for his arrest.
The boy was charged with making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.
“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat & now he’s experiencing real consequences,” the sheriff said.
In a YouTube video, the sheriff’s office showed a deputy walking to the boy to a squad car.
Sheriff’s officials did not say whether the boy remained in a juvenile facility or was released to his parents.

Tytyana is one of MP's middle children -- she's also one of 4 daughters.
She's been featured on the family's reality show, "Growing Up Hip Hop," and her struggles with substance abuse have been well-documented ... including a dramatic moment where Romeo and P were encouraging her to enter rehab.
As for Tylyana, she had pursued an acting career, and appeared in "A Mother's Choice."
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A California woman who punched a Southwest Airlines flight attendant in the face during a flight, breaking her teeth, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison.
Vyvianna Quinonez was also ordered Tuesday by the federal judge in San Diego to pay nearly $26,000 in restitution and a $7,500 fine for the assault on a May 23, 2021, Southwest flight between Sacramento and San Diego.
The 29-year-old Sacramento woman is prohibited from flying for three years while she is on supervised release and must participate in anger management classes or counseling.
Quinonez last year pleaded guilty to one count of interference with flight crew members and attendants, admitting she punched the flight attendant in the face and head with a closed fist and grabbed her hair. Neither she nor her attorney could be reached for comment Tuesday.
During the flight’s final descent, the attendant had asked Quinonez to buckle her seat belt, stow her tray table, and put on her facemask properly.
Instead, Quinonez began recording the attendant on her cellphone, pushed her, then stood up and punched the woman in the face and grabbed her hair before other passengers intervened, authorities said.
The assault was recorded on another passenger’s cellphone.
The plea agreement said that the flight attendant suffered three chipped teeth, two of which needed crowns, along with bruises and a cut under her left eye that needed stitches.
“Attacks on flight crew members, who perform vital jobs to ensure passenger safety, will not be tolerated,” U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said in a statement after the sentencing.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Stacey Moy said the sentence should “send a very strong message to air travelers — the FBI will vigorously pursue anyone who assaults or interferes with flight crews.”
One of the young victims of the Texas school massacre bled to death while waiting for nearly an hour for police to come to the rescue — possibly dying because of the delay, a first-responder allegedly told her mom.
Texas State Sen. Roland Gutierrez said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the girl’s heartbroken mother recalled to him how the worker told her the child might have lived if cops hadn’t been slow to move in on the killer.
“Her child had been shot by one bullet through the back, through the kidney area,” Gutierrez told the outlet. “The first responder that they eventually talked to said that their child likely bled out.
“In that span of 30 or 40 minutes extra, that little girl might have lived,” the Democratic lawmaker said. “So absolutely these mistakes may have led to the passing away of these children as well.”
Police in Uvalde, Texas, have increasingly come under criticism for their handling of Tuesday’s massacre, which left 19 fourth-graders & 2 teachers dead & 17 others wounded.
Police did not breach Robb Elementary School for more than 90 minutes after arriving at the campus, where the deranged 18-year-old gunman, Salvador Ramos, fatally shot his innocent victims with an AR-15 assault rifle.
Ramos was eventually shot dead when police did finally enter the adjoining classrooms where he had launched his slaughter.
Several students even pleaded with police to come to their aid — as officers remain deployed outside, out of harm’s way — before they were killed.
Among those facing scrutiny for the delay is Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, who allegedly made the call to hold cops back when the shooting started.
On Sunday, police were guarding the chief’s house & keeping reporters away.
“Pete Arredondo is a coward,” snapped neighbor Lydia Torres. “He didn’t do his job. He failed the children.”
Questions have also arisen as to whether Arredondo even had a police radio with him when he made the fateful decision outside the school.
UVALDE, Texas (AP) — The Justice Department said Sunday it will review the law enforcement response to the Texas school shooting, an unusual federal look back prompted by questions about the shifting and at times contradictory information from authorities that have enraged a community in shock and sorrow.
Department spokesman Anthony Coley said the review would be conducted in a fair, impartial and independent manner and the findings would be made public. The announcement came as President Joe Biden was visiting Uvalde, where he and first lady Jill Biden paid their respects at a memorial to the 19 students and two teachers killed at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday.
The goal of the review, which the mayor requested, is “to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and response that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events,” Coley said in a statement.
Handling the review is the department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. It was not immediately clear how the review would be conducted, whether law enforcement officials could be compelled to cooperate in the review and when it might be completed.
Such a review is somewhat rare and most after-action reports that come after a mass shooting are generally compiled by local law enforcement agencies or outside groups. The Justice Department conducted similar reviews after 14 people were killed in a terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California, in 2015, and after the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ community in U.S. history that left 49 people dead and 53 people wounded.
The frustration, anger and questions about the response from police grew deeper on Friday after authorities revealed that despite repeated 911 calls from students and teachers, the school district’s police chief had told more than a dozen officers to wait in a school hallway. Officials said he believed the suspect was barricaded inside adjoining classrooms and that there was no longer an active attack.
The revelation caused more grief and raised new questions about whether more lives were lost because officers did not act faster to stop the gunman, who was ultimately killed by Border Patrol tactical officers.
Biden has not spoken publicly about the police response to the shooting.
CHARLESTON, W.Va (11Alive) — A woman in West Virginia fatally shot a man who began firing an AR-15-style rifle into a crowd of people that had gathered for a party.
Dennis Butler, 37, was killed Wednesday night after he pulled out the rifle and began shooting at dozens of people attending the birthday-graduation party outside an apartment complex in the city of Charleston.
The woman, who was attending the party, drew a pistol & fired, killing Butler. No one at the party was injured.
“Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat & saved several lives last night,” Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett told news outlets Thursday.
Butler was at the apartment complex earlier in the evening in a vehicle and had been warned to slow down because children were playing, police said. They said he left, but returned later, parked in front of the complex & began firing.
After fatally shooting Butler, the woman waited along with several witnesses for police to arrive, & all have cooperated with the investigation.
Hazelett said no charges would be filed against the woman.
