Video After The Jump

LOS ANGELES (Fox 5) — A robbery suspect wielding a large machete was shot and killed by police officers Monday afternoon in Hollywood, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Chris Ramirez said.

The suspect can be seen on cell phone video at first being chased by an officer, then turning and charging at the officer.

Police think the suspect entered an auto parts store on Highland and Sunset and committed robbery at knifepoint. CNN affiliate KBCW said the store clerk told them the man stole some batteries and jumper cables.

He took the merchandise to a nearby fast food restaurant drive-through and carjacked a customer, Ramirez said. The suspect got into the car and tried speeding away from the scene, but crashed into two patrol cars in the parking lot, Ramirez said.

The suspect got out of the car, still carrying the machete, and ran from police, Ramirez said. Police chased him and initially used “less lethal” force before officers shot him, Ramirez said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead, Ramirez said. He has not been identified.

The officer seen on video suffered minor injuries to his elbow and knee and was treated on scene.

Video After The Jump

German police were working furiously Tuesday morning to track down the bandits behind one of the biggest, most brazen jewel heists of all time. Surveillance video released by the police shows two thieves breaking into the 500-year-old Dresden Castle and making off with 18th century treasure from its famous Green Vault room.

One report has suggested the stolen items could be worth more than $1 billion, but the director of Dresden's state art collections, Marion Ackermann, said the real value of the jewels to Germany was "immeasurable."

CBS News Roxana Saberi reports that, in addition to the surveillance video, German police also released images of the exquisite items that were stolen, many of them encrusted with diamonds, rubies and sapphires and other jewels. One of the pilfered objects is a sword with a hilt adorned by nine large diamonds and 770 smaller ones.

Details of the stolen items could be entered into a database of stolen artifacts in the hopes they can raise the alarm of suspicious buyers, Radcliffe said, but if the criminals find it too difficult to monetize them, there is a chance they could simply abandon them.

“The Swedish crown jewels, which were stolen several years agowere recovered when they were left in a bin, so sometimes the thieves find that these are too hot to hold.”

Meanwhile, Marinello said it’s paramount for law enforcement to act fast if there is to be any hope of recovering the artifacts in their original form.

“There is no time to lose,” he said.

The police also need to make it known that they want these pieces returned intact and if they are broken up, the penalties will be more severe, Marinello added.

German investigators, who are still analyzing the crime scene, told NBC News on Tuesday the suspects are still on the run. They didn't detail their next steps, but did say that a burned-out car found two and a half miles away from the museum was tied to the break-in.

“If they are going to issue a reward for information, it should come now before the gold is melted down and stones and diamonds are removed. This needs to be treated like a hostage situation,” Marinello said.

In this clip, Brian "Glaze" Gibbs addressed the notion that most street guys would consider him a rat for taking a deal and cooperating with the feds. For Brian "Glaze" Gibbs, he couldn't care less. His main defense was that no one can say that they served prison time as a result of his cooperation which seems to be a requisite reality for the rat label to hold. Nevertheless, Gibbs explained why he's not worried about those labels and said he's never been approached in New York or elsewhere regarding the matter either.

French Montana remains in the ICU nearly a week after he was hospitalized while suffering cardiac issues and nausea.

The “Writing on the Wall” rapper, 35, posted a video on Twitter early Monday showing himself in bed and hooked up to monitors.

“6 days in icu [prayer emoji],” he tweeted with the video.

A close-up of the medical board in the room revealed doctors and nurses are helping him “manage pain.”

Montana’s rep didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

Page Six confirmed last Thursday that Montana, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, was hospitalized after experiencing severe stomach pains as well as an elevated heart rate.

Bill Cosby says he's got no issue rotting in prison, even if that's for the rest of his life, because he's never going to show a bit of remorse for his crime.

The 82-year-old comedian -- who was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced to 3 to 10 years -- gave his first prison interview to Black Press USA, and said, "I have 8 years and 9 months left. When I come up for parole, they're not going to hear me say that I have remorse. I was there. I don't care what group of people come along and talk about this when they weren't there."

In other words, he's doubling down on maintaining his innocence and throwing away any possibility of an early release. Parole boards typically want inmates to show some remorse. Cosby also claimed his trial was a complete sham.

There were some other nuggets that came of the interview -- notably, the fact Cosby seems to be somewhat enjoying himself at SCI-Phoenix ... a max security penitentiary. He says he helps teach and mentor inmates through a program called Mann Up.

Cosby also says he's a "privileged man" behind bars, going on to refer his cell as "my penthouse." He didn't get into the deets on how his cell is any different, though.

Cosby added, he's very much concerned for black America ... arguing drugs were a big cause for the community's issues. He also tried to make a connection between women and how folks buying drugs should consider the pain of mothers.

He says he recently dedicated one of his prison speeches to women, in honor of his wife, Camille.

Cosby says his eyes were opened after listening to his wife recount taking their terminally ill adult daughter to the hospital. The implication being -- we think -- is that women are exponentially affected by their children's fates.

Video After The Jump

The remains of Aniah Haley Blanchard, the 19-year-old stepdaughter of UFC fighter Walt Harris who went missing on Oct. 24, are believed to have been found.

“I can confirm that human remains have been found in Macon County on County Road 2 and we have good reason to believe they are that of Aniah Blanchard,” Lee County District Attorney Brand Hugh tells PEOPLE.

Two men have been arrested on first-degree kidnapping charges in Aniah’s case: Antwain “Squirmy” Fisher, 35, and 29-year-old Ibraheem Yazeed.

Yazeed was identified as a person of interest after video surveillance showed him inside the Auburn, Alabama, convenience store where Blanchard was last seen alive on Oct. 23. The following day, she was reported missing by her family after she never came home.

Blanchard’s last known whereabouts are difficult to pinpoint, her stepfather previously told PEOPLE. She last communicated with her roommate through Snapchat on Wednesday night, just before midnight, saying she would be home soon. But then minutes later she sent a message saying she was with someone named “Eric,” Harris said. When her roommate asked who he was, Blanchard wrote back, “I just met him,” according to Harris.

Harris said it’s unlike his stepdaughter to fail to return home, especially when she had work the next morning. She is always in contact with her family, he says, so when her brother couldn’t reach her the next day, the family called the police.

Two days after Blanchard was reported missing, police found her car nearly 60 miles away in Montgomery. Blood evidence recovered from her vehicle shows that she suffered a “life-threatening injury,” a police affidavit said earlier this month.

Yazeed, who was arrested in Florida, is being held without bond as he awaits a hearing to be extradited back to Alabama. He has not yet entered a plea, and police records do not reflect an attorney authorized to speak on his behalf.

Fisher is from Montgomery, Alabama, according to WRBL. An attorney for Fisher could not immediately be identified.

Kennesaw State star point guard Kamiyah Street has been charged with multiple counts of murder, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Street was arrested in Atlanta on Nov. 21 in connection with the July shooting death of 21-year-old Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne.

The 20-year-old Street faces eight counts --  including murder, three counts of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She is one of five people who has been charged in connection with the murder case

Hubbard-Etienne was shot to death on July 16 at an Atlanta apartment building. His body was later found in the parking deck of that complex. Police believe that it was not a random crime and that the victim was targeted intentionally.

KSU's assistant athletic director for communications said the team was made aware of the charges against Street on Thursday and has indefinitely suspended the player from all team activities, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The school declined to comment further, noting "neither the university nor the athletic department have any additional information at this time."

The junior point guard's name has been removed from the roster section of the team's website. Street has averaged 21 points and five rebounds through the first four games of this season.

Video After The Jump

MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) — There’s growing concern over how Mesquite police responded to reports of an active shooter at Town East Mall Saturday night.

The reports turned out to be false, but one store owner and his customers say they were victimized.

While several stores went into lock down, Travis Fields says he couldn’t.

“As I go to close the gate, Mesquite police pull up on us,” the Noah’s Cutz & Stylz owner said. “They said, ‘Everybody get down, get down.’ Guns pointing at us, ‘Get on the floor, get on the floor.’ I’m like, ‘For what?’”

Fields said they told him there were reports of an active shooter coming out of Noah’s Barbershop.

“I was like there’s not a shooter in here!” he said.

Fields said he told officers there was a fight outside their store involving a group of teens throwing chairs and trash cans and that he had tried to break it up before security arrived. He said he thought by telling police there was no shooter, he and his customers would be allowed to get off the ground.

“I was on that floor for about 30 to 45 minutes,” Fields said. “That was too long.”

Noah’s Cutz & Stylz Founder Noah Floyd said seeing his clients laying on the floor, afraid for their lives was detrimental.

Mesquite police have sent a statement to CBS 11:

“Officers commanded those within the area of the barbershop to lay on the ground for safety and to assess the immediate area. Despite the frustrations conveyed in the audio of the individual who captured the incident, the Mesquite Police Department’s response was to ensure the safety of all citizens inside the mall.”

Though Fields said he doesn’t know officers’ protocol, he’s confident in what he saw.

“I know how I felt and it didn’t feel good to be laying down on the ground with a rifle pointing at my face — thinking if one of these air machines was to go off and I made a certain move, that I might not be here tomorrow.”

Floyd and Fields are now consulting with their lawyers to figure out where to go from here.

Video After The Jump

On this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with activist, community organizer, National Surrogate for Bernie Sanders, and co-founder of The Dream Defenders, Phillip Agnew. Over the course of the next hour and change, the trio dives deep into the importance of HBCUs to the black community, the case for electing Bernie Sanders, and the issues of reparations and identity politics. The conversation is full of big ideas tempered by plenty of laughter.

As the show progresses, Talib, Phil, and Jasmin also discuss how Occupy Wall Street informed later social movements, talk about the massive influence of Harry Belafonte, the revolutionary art of Paul Robeson, and the issues Phil took with the Spike Lee movie 'Chi-Raq.' Later, Phil speaks openly and honestly about his struggles with social media, how the Black Panthers in general (and Elaine Brown in specific) shaped his ideas of activism, and the ADOS movement, which Kweli actively opposes.

The entire interview balances big ideas with levity. (Phil's joke about Bernie's hair had the crowd roaring.)
