The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

October 28, 2020 | Bobby Carter - Superstar songwriter Ty Dolla $ign has too much history with NPR Music and too many hits under his belt to deliver us just any ol' Tiny Desk from home. He assembled a roster of frequent collaborators (including Skrillex) under one roof to perform some jams from his new album, aptly titled Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, as well as a few of his chart-topping singles.

While many know Ty as pop's go-to feature artist, the Los Angeles native has steadily crafted his own diverse catalog, with more than a dozen albums, mixtapes and EPs to his name. With Featuring, he flips the script, roping A-list pop stars — like Post Malone, Nicki Minaj, Future and Young Thug — into his own world, using them to define the Ty Dolla sound.

This Tiny Desk (home) concert was a long time coming. Ty visited the NPR Music offices last year, where he performed an emotional tribute to Mac Miller, and it's something we'll never forget, but he wanted to start fresh and focus on the music of Featuring. Fast forward more than a year later, and we finally have that full-length Ty concert so many of you have been asking for.

Two grand jurors in the Breonna Taylor case who have pushed for an opportunity to speak out got their chance Wednesday morning in an interview that aired on "CBS This Morning."

"They didn't give us the charges up front," one said. "They gave us all of that testimony, over 20-something hours, and then just say that these are the only charges that they're coming up with. It's like, 'what did we just sit through?' And that then to be told that we're not charging them with anything else — to me, it was a betrayal."

Grand juror No. 1 is a white man, according to program host Gayle King, while grand juror No. 2 is Black.

There was "an uproar in that room" when grand jurors learned only wanton endangerment charges would be presented, one said. The grand jury was told other possible charges were considered but that nothing else would stick.

The two grand jurors were pushed to speak out after a September press conference by Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, which they said misrepresented their position on potential indictments against the three officers who fired their weapons in the raid in which Taylor was killed. The grand jury never considered six possible homicide charges that Cameron referred to in the press conference, grand juror No. 1 said.

"While there are six possible homicide charges under Kentucky law, these charges are not applicable to the facts before us because our investigation showed — and the grand jury agreed — that (Jonathan) Mattingly and (Myles) Cosgrove were justified in their return of deadly fire," Cameron said at the time.

Cameron's press conference, though, one grand juror said, was the first time that "six possible homicide charges" had been discussed. The grand jurors were not presented with any potential murder charges.

"This was all Cameron. This was up to him. We didn't get a choice in that at all," grand juror No. 2 said. "So I was livid. By the time I heard what he was saying, everything that came out of his mouth, I was saying 'liar' — because we didn't agree to anything."

A “depraved” British man has been jailed for three years for having sex with chickens, even after he killed them — while his wife filmed it for their “family vids,” according to reports.

Rehan Baig, 37, was busted after a tipster told the UK’s National Crime Agency that he had child porn — with officers finding “a number of indecent images of children” at his home in Bradford, prosecutor Abigail Langford told his sentencing hearing, according to the Sun.

“Also located among the devices interrogated were moving images showing the defendant engaging in penetrative sexual intercourse with a number of chickens,” Langford told Bradford Crown Court on Monday.

“The defendant caused the death of the chickens on each occasion,” she said — with one of the videos even showing Baig having sex with one of the animals in his basement after it had died.

The wife was “heard to make sexual encouraging remarks towards the defendant and engages in sexual intercourse with him,” Langford told the court, calling her a “willing participant.”

Judge Richard Mansell called the “depraved, perverted and despicable” acts “beyond comprehension,” saying they would make anyone “sick to the stomach,” according to the Bradford Telegraph & Argus.

He told Baig he was guilty of “unspeakable cruelty to the animals he abused for his own sexual gratification,” saying that the “pain and suffering was horrific,” the local paper said.

Baig was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting three counts of intentionally performing an act of penetration on live chickens, as well as possessing extreme pornographic images, making indecent photographs of children and possessing cocaine and cannabis resin.

He was also banned for life from keeping any animal and he must be on the sex offender register for life, the reports said.

His wife pleaded guilty to three aiding and abetting counts for filming her husband. She was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, during which she must get rehabilitation, the local paper said.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Deputies arrested a Florida woman accused of a fraudulent return scheme involving dozens of Amazon accounts and thousands of returned items, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

From March 2015 until August 2020, investigators said Hoai Tibma, 32, operated a scheme in which she reused prepaid shipping labels generated for canceled orders, and then applied them on other returns.

The tactic, the sheriff’s office says, would make it appear that she had paid for her own shipping costs on the returns when she actually did not.

Tibma completed 42,000 individual returns on the 31 different accounts, the sheriff’s office said. Those returns resulted in more than $165,000 reimbursed to Tibma’s name.

“This woman took advantage of a loophole she discovered in the return process,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Through investigative means, our Economic Crimes detectives were able to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect. She was arrested without incident.”

Tibma reportedly admitted to the crimes and was charged with one count of grand theft.

Keith Raniere -- the leader of NXIVM, a sex cult operating under the guise of a self-help organization -- will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The judge sentenced 60-year-old Raniere to 120 years in prison Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court. His sentencing came after 15 former NXIVM members confronted him over the physical and emotional abuse they endured under his guidance in the cult.

Raniere -- known as "Vanguard" to his followers and the subject of the HBO docuseries, "The Vow" -- was arrested in March 2018 for sex trafficking, but was still relatively flying under the radar until it came out that "Smallville" actress Allison Mack was linked to him and the cult. She was arrested the next month.

Mack allegedly served as Raniere's accomplice in forming the DOS group in NXIVM, which manipulated women into being branded above their pubic regions with his initials.

Raniere was convicted of wire fraud conspiracy, sex trafficking conspiracy, forced labor conspiracy, and 4 other charges for his role as leader of the cult for 2 decades.

As we reported ... Mack pled guilty in her case to racketeering conspiracy and racketeering in April 2019, and is still awaiting sentencing. She's facing up to 40 years.

She said at the time of her guilty plea ... "I must take full responsibility for my conduct. I am very sorry for my role in this case. I am very sorry to my family and to the good people I hurt through my misguided adherence to [NXIVM leader] Keith Raniere’s teachings."

Boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. claims burglars ransacked his L.A. home -- taking roughly $750k in jewelry and other valuables, TMZ Sports has learned.

34-year-old Chavez -- son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. -- believes the burglary took place last week while the family was out of town. We're told it appears the intruders got into the home through a bathroom window.

Our law enforcement sources tell us ... Chavez and his wife, Frida, believe the crooks snatched up several items, including a small safe that contained roughly $600,000 in jewelry and designer purses.

They also got around $150k in other belongings from around the home ... totaling $750k.

We're told cops are investigating but so far, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been named.

Chavez Jr. -- the former WBC middleweight champ -- is married to Frida Chavez, who recently gave birth to their 2nd child.

Frida was previously married to Edgar Guzman Lopez -- the son of Sinaloa Cartel boss Joaquin Guzman, AKA El Chapo.

Edgar was killed in 2008 when he was ambushed in a supermarket parking lot by a gang of rival cartel members.

We're told police are aware of the family ties -- but it's unclear if the El Chapo connection has anything to do with the burglary.

Video After The Jump

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — More than a dozen people were arrested and more than 30 officers injured in protests stemming from the police shooting death of a Black man they say refused their orders to drop a knife in a confrontation captured on video, Philadelphia police said Tuesday.

The man, identified by city officials as Walter Wallace, 27, was shot before 4 p.m. Monday in an episode filmed by a bystander and posted on social media. Bystanders and neighbors complained that police fired excessive shots.

Wallace’s father, Walter Wallace Sr., told The Philadelphia Inquirer that his son appeared to have been shot 10 times. He said his son was also a father, was on medication and struggled with his mental health.

“Why didn’t they use a Taser?” he asked.

Officers had been called to the predominantly black Cobbs Creek neighborhood in west Philadelphia on reports of a man with a weapon, said Officer Tanya Little, a police spokesperson.

Officers said they found Wallace holding a knife and ordered him to drop the weapon several times. Wallace advanced toward the officers, who fired several times, Little said.

Hundreds of people later took to the streets in west Philadelphia into the wee hours of Tuesday, with interactions between protesters and police turning violent at times, the Inquirer reported. Video showed many yelling at officers and crying.

Dozens of protesters gathered at a nearby park and chanted “Black lives matter.”

Police cars and dumpsters were set on fire as police struggled to contain the crowds. More than a dozen officers, many with batons in hand, formed a line as they ran down 52nd Street. The crowd largely dispersed then.

Thirty officers were injured, most of them from thrown objects such as bricks and rocks, according to police. One officer had a broken leg and other injuries after she was struck by a pickup truck, police said. The other injured officers were treated and released.

Video After The Jump

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police shot and killed a man on a West Philadelphia street Monday afternoon after yelling at him to drop his knife.

It happened around 3:50 p.m. when officers responded to a domestic call along the 6100 block of Locust Street.

Sgt. Eric Gripp, a spokesperson with the Philadelphia Police Department, says officers confronted a man with a knife at the scene. Gripp said the man was shot multiple times by two officers after he didn't adhere to calls to drop the weapon. He was later pronounced dead.

Neighbors have identified the man as Walter Wallace.

Video of the fatal confrontation recorded by a bystander and posted on social media shows officers pointing their guns at a man as he walked in the street and around a car. The man walks toward the officers as they backed away from him in the street, guns still aimed at him.

"Put the knife down, put the knife down," one officer can be heard saying.

Both then fired several shots at the man and he collapsed in the street. A woman ran up to the victim and began screaming. Several bystanders then walk up to the man who was shot.

It is unclear in the video if the man had a knife. Witnesses said he was holding one.

At least a dozen evidence markers were found at the scene. Witnesses and neighbors want to know why less-lethal force wasn't used.

(CNN) Jamie Foxx is mourning the death of his beloved sister.

The actor posted Monday on his verified Instagram account that DeOndra Dixon had died. She was 36.
Foxx posted a series of photos of him and his sister to go along with the emotional post.

"My heart is shattered into a million pieces... my beautiful loving sister Deondra has transitioned... I say transitioned because she will always be alive... anyone who knew my sis... knew that she was a bright light...," Foxx wrote. "I can't tell you how many times we have had parties at the house where she has got on the dance floor and stolen the show."

Dixon was well known for her admiration for singer Chris Brown, and her brother joked that when it came to dancing, she "even gave her boyfriend @chrisbrownofficial a run for his money."

"Well I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on...tho my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me... my family... and her friends," he wrote.

Foxx also noted the times she joined him in his craft from dancing in the music video for his single "Blame It" to appearing with him at the Grammys.

"Deondra you have left A hole in my heart... but I will fill it with all of the memories that you gave me ... I love you with every ounce of me," Foxx wrote. "Our family is shattered but we will put the pieces back together with your love... and y'all please keep my family in your prayers..."

Foxx also wrote in his post that his sister was an ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.

The organization honored Dixon on its site in a post that noted "The Global Down Syndrome Foundation's highest honor, the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award, was inspired by DeOndra and she was its first recipient. Quincy Jones himself introduced us to DeOndra as one of the most articulate, irrepressible, magnetic people he had ever met."

"Her parents, Annette and George Dixon, brother Jamie Foxx, sister Deidra Dixon, nieces Anelise and Corinne, dear friend Kim, and large extended family are beyond consolable, and we ask that you help us respect their privacy during this difficult time," the tribute read. "For Global, we have lost our talented, intelligent, feisty, beautiful, kind, loving, caring, pure and giving heart, DeOndra Dixon. Our Down syndrome community has lost a beacon of hope, a true leader, and role model whose aim was to always help others. She was a bright light in this world of ours."
