OWOSSO, MI — A mid-Michigan man found more than $43,000 in cash hidden in a couch he bought from a secondhand store, and though he had no apparent legal obligation to do so, he decided to return the money to the family who donated the item.
Ovid resident Howard Kirby recently bought a set of furniture for $70 from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Owosso. After the couch spent a few weeks in his “man cave,” he started to think something was off.
“The foot cushion always seemed kind of hard,” Kirby said Friday, Jan. 17.
His daughter-in-law finally opened the cushion and was surprised to find a box containing tens of thousands of dollars in cash - $43,170, once they counted it up.
Surprised at his good fortune, Kirby considered how the cash could change his life: He could finish paying his house off and fix his roof and still have some left over. He contacted a lawyer and learned he had the legal right to keep the cash.
But Kirby felt his faith called him to do the right thing and try to return the money to the family who donated the couch.
“The Holy Spirit just came over me and said, ‘No, that’s really not yours,’” Kirby said.
Kirby went back to the store, which got in contact with the family, he said. They arranged a meeting in the store for Kirby to return the family’s lost money, but Restore manager Rick Merling said initially it wasn’t clear how much cash was involved.
DaBaby is setting the record straight on why he pushed a Beverly Hills hotel employee, and he says it's because the guy was allegedly harassing him while he was in the company of his young daughter.
DB says the guy was attempting to film him outside of the hotel while he was holding his kid, and after repeatedly asking him to refrain ... DaBaby says the employee refused and kept filming anyway. DaBaby says he asked the dude to delete the video, and it doesn't sound like he listened ... at first.
Bottom line though ... he says his family's safety comes first, and he was dead set on making sure this fella understood that too.

Future claims his alleged baby mama has an unhealthy obsession with him, and he wants a judge to force her to get a check-up ... from the neck up.
The rapper's filed legal docs asking the court to order a psychological evaluation for Eliza Seraphin, the woman alleging Future fathered his SEVENTH child with her.
Future claims Eliza is spewing hate toward him on social media, and he thinks she might be suffering from a mental disorder. He says things are getting so out of hand, he fears she may harm him or her daughter.
According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, Future says Eliza has a history of violence and has been arrested before for assaulting former lovers with firearms. He claims her overly emotional behavior on social media is another sign of mental health issues.
Future doesn't address whether he's the child's father, but he claims Eliza was taking fertility pills as a ploy to get pregnant with a rich man's baby. Future also says she's using the child to squeeze money out of him, and publicly embarrass and harass him.
TMZ broke the story ... Future claimed Eliza was nothing but a fraud after she filed a paternity suit against him in Florida. She claims he knocked her up and then ghosted her after she gave birth.
Future is worried Eliza is brainwashing, demoralizing and ruining the self-esteem of the child, and he wants the mental health evaluation to help determine if she's fit to be a mother.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Quick-thinking Massachusetts police used a highway construction site to stop the vehicle of a suspected kidnapper and rescue an 11-year-old girl Wednesday night.
Charlotte Moccia, of Springfield, was rescued unharmed after she was apparently abducted after getting off the school bus on Wednesday afternoon.
The girl was forced into a dark blue Honda at about 1:26 p.m., "not long after she got off her school bus," according to Massachusetts State Police.
Authorities issued an Amber Alert and released photos of Charlotte and the car they said was used in the abduction. At around 7:15 p.m., state police began receiving 911 calls from motorists on the Massachusetts Turnpike who had spotted the car near Brimfield, about half an hour from Springfield.
Amanda Disley and Benny Correa were among those who spotted the car and called police. Disley shot video from inside the car while Correa followed the suspect, providing valuable information to police officers along the way.
"When he noticed that we were really chasing him all the way down the side streets, he just started blowing through every single red light, and my husband blew threw every single red light with him," Disley later told local television station WGGB.
"It's our city. We don't do that kind of stuff around here. That's not how we play, there's zero tolerance for that," Correa said of the abduction.
Officers eventually used a road construction site along the turnpike to funnel traffic into one lane, and then slow the traffic to a crawl. When they spotted the suspect's car, they stopped the vehicle and found Charlotte in the back seat, with the suspect in the driver's seat and a knife visible in the pocket of the door, police said.
One officer got Charlotte out of the car while two others removed the suspect at gunpoint.
"She's an amazing little girl," said State Police Lt. Bob Ackerman of Charlotte, who attends Hampden Charter School of Science. "I can't believe how strong she was dealing with this."
Charlotte was transported to the hospital for precautionary evaluation, but had no apparent injuries according to authorities.
The suspect, who was identified as 24-year-old Miguel Rodriguez was taken into custody.
"We're eternally grateful to the motorists that paid attention to the Amber Alert and called and reported seeing the vehicle," said Lt. Charles Murray. "There were a number of those calls and they made this rescue possible."
