SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida police sergeant who was recorded grabbing a colleague by the neck when she tried to deescalate a situation involving a suspect is under crimianal investigation, officials said.
Sunrise police Sgt. Christopher Pullease has also been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, the agency said in a statement.
“This is a result of criminal allegations that have been uncovered due to the internal affairs investigation. The Sunrise Police Department is working in conjunction with the Broward State Attorney’s Office during this criminal investigation.”
The 21-year veteran of the department had been placed on desk duty five days after the Nov. 19 incident.
The suspect had been handcuffed and placed into a cruiser when Pullease pointed pepper spray at him. The unidentified female officer ran to Pullease and pulled him by the belt away from the suspect, the video showed.
Pullease turned and put his left hand on her throat before pushing her back toward another police cruiser.

NEW YORK (ABC13) -- The FBI announced Friday that Brian Laundrie claimed responsibility for killing Gabby Petito in a notebook found near his body.
In a statement, the FBI says their "investigation did not identify any other individuals other than Brian Laundrie directly involved in the tragic death of Gabby Petito."
When Laundrie's body was found, a backpack with a notebook was found nearby.
The FBI wrote, "a review of the notebook revealed written statements by Mr. Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms. Petito's death."
Laundrie died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
An attorney for Laundrie's family released the following statement:
"Gabby and Brian are no longer with their families and this tragedy has caused enormous emotional pain and suffering to all who loved either or both of them. We can only hope that with today's closure of the case each family can begin to heal and move forward and find peace in and with the memories of their children."
Petito's family met with the FBI on Thursday and the investigation will be closed in the near future.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Louie Anderson, whose four-decade career as a comedian and actor included his unlikely, Emmy-winning performance as mom to twin adult sons in the TV series “Baskets,” died Friday. He was 68.
Anderson died at a hospital in Las Vegas of complications from cancer, said Glenn Schwartz, his longtime publicist. Anderson had a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Schwartz said previously.
The portly, round-faced Anderson used his girth and a checkered childhood in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as fodder for his early stand-up routines.
In later years, his life as one of 11 children in a family headed by a troubled father and devoted mother became a source of reflection and inspiration for Anderson, both in his screen work and in his best-selling books.
In 2016, he won a best supporting actor Emmy for his portrayal of Christine Baskets, mother to twins played by Zach Galifianakis, in the FX series “Baskets.” Anderson, who received three consecutive Emmy nods for the role, credited his mom with elements of the character.
He was a familiar face elsewhere on TV, including as host of a revival of the game show “Family Feud” from 1999 to 2002, and on comedy specials and in frequent late-night talk show appearances.
Anderson voiced an animated version of himself as a kid in “Life With Louie.” He created the cartoon series, which first aired in prime time in late 1994 before moving to Saturday morning for its 1995-98 run. Anderson won two Daytime Emmy Awards for the role.
He made guest appearances in several TV series, including “Scrubs” and “Touched by an Angel,” and was on the big screen in 1988′s “Coming to America” and in last year’s sequel to the Eddie Murphy comedy. Anderson also toured regularly with his stand-up act.
Anderson’s early jobs included counseling troubled children. He changed course after winning a 1981 Midwest comedy competition, where he was spotted by veteran comic Henny Youngman, who was the contest’s host, according to Schwartz.

Meat Loaf -- the singer with some monstrous hits -- has died at the age of 74.
The singer's manager, Michael Greene, confirmed Meat Loaf died Thursday night. Sources with knowledge tell TMZ ... he was supposed to attend a business dinner earlier this week for a show he's working on -- "I'd Do Anything for Love" -- but the dinner was canceled because he became seriously ill with COVID. Sources tell us that condition quickly became critical.
Our sources say Meat Loaf has been outspoken about COVID, railing with folks in Australia recently about vaccine mandates. We do not know if he was vaccinated.
Greene added that Meat Loaf's wife and 2 daughters were by his side when he passed away.
Meat Loaf was one of the greatest rock singers of all time. His 1977 "Bat Out of Hell" album sold an astounding 65 million copies. That album produced several hits, including "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," which charted at #11 on Billboard.
Meat Loaf followed up with a sequel years later -- "Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell" - which produced a number 1 hit, "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." He won a Grammy for Best Solo Rock
Meat Loaf also appeared in a ton of movies and TV shows, including "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Spice World: The Movie" and "Fight Club" He also performed in the musical "Hair," both on and off-Broadway.
His real name was Marvin Lee Aday. As for how he acquired the name of a delicious meal ... his football coach named him Meat Loaf because of his weight. His first band was called Meat Loaf Soul.
Now get this ... his first album was a duet with a singer named Stoney and it was released on Motown.
BTW ... Meat Loaf was a vegetarian from 1981 to 1992. In 2019, he tried becoming a vegan. He once said, "There have been vegetarians who wouldn't speak to me because of my name." In fact, he was a big fan of singer k.d. lang and wanted to meet her but he says she refused because of his name. He says he stopped being a fan after that!!

The bodies of three teens who died following an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday at a Crosby home were found throughout the rural residence, according to authorities.
Police found the body of 15-year-old Hayden Burns in a bedroom. Authorities suspect he shot the others then took his own life. In another bedroom was his 17-year-old sister Haley Burns, Harris County Sheriff's Office officials said in an email identifying the teens.
Another 17-year-old girl, not related to either of the siblings, was found in the hallway. Police identified her as Kadience Cadena.
A relative to the siblings found the children inside a house in the 4500 block of Wolcek Road.
Medical examiner records show one girl had multiple gunshot wounds, while the other had a gunshot wound to the head.
Crosby ISD officials said the teens were not currently enrolled in their schools.
"Although the teenagers were not current students, we are thinking of and praying for those who knew them in our community," a district statement read. "District counselors have been made available at all campuses this week to speak with students and staff in need of extra support."

Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell, who was arrested in Florida earlier this week while completely naked, apparently does not remember anything about the incident.
McDowell was arrested in Deerfield Beach, Fla. on Monday. He was walking around the streets completely naked, and entered the property of a children’s learning center. He was also accused of a “violent attack” on an arresting deputy.
“He said he doesn’t remember anything,” Wynns said. “He doesn’t remember nothing. He was so emotional. It had me in tears, because he was trying, trying, trying so hard.”
Videos from before and during the arrest showed McDowell fully naked. He writhed on the ground while being arrested.
A deputy alleged that McDowell “charged at me … at full speed with closed fist.”
McDowell was a second-round pick for the Seahawks in 2017, due to a combination of injuries and arrests did not appear in a game until this season with the Browns. He played in 15 games and accumulated three sacks and 19 solo tackles. He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Reggie Wynns, who coached McDowell at Southfield High School in Michigan, fought back tears as he spoke to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer about the incident.
“Apparently somebody may have slipped him something or given him something he was unaware of, which explains some of his bizarre behavior,” McDowell’s attorney said.
Asked about that explanation, Wynns, his high school coach, could not make sense of the situation.
“I don’t know if someone laced him or what,” Wynns said. “I don’t know. That’s not him at all. All I’m hoping is that when they test him, they figure out that he had been drugged.
“You don’t do a great job for 17 games starting for the Cleveland Browns and then go to a training facility, and then you’re walking down the street [naked] and doing what he did. That doesn’t make sense to me.”
