North Carolina's Jody Lo releases a new single; I Am, after 6 months of silence. Per usual, we're presented with a super lyrical freestyle over a smooth trap like beat, but what makes this track different is the complexity of the bars and a near perfect flow to compliment it. The single artwork also foreshadows an upcoming album in the near future(The Black Sheep Effect 2).

North Carolina has been recently producing some of the greatest artists hiphop has scene in a while from the likes of J. Cole, DaBaby, Bali Baby, Stunna 4 Vegas & a lot more to name. But the underground scene in North Carolina is just as strong. Winston-Salem, NC artist Jody Lo proves it with a new album release; "DOPE!". Dope was a 15 track independent album laced with catchy beats, strong vibes and some extremely lyrical bars from Jody Lo with various underground artists making appearances. Track 2 begins with a mediocre hook but once the verse begins, Jody Lo quickly begins laying bars to make up for the typical hook and beat selection. Track 3; All about the Benjamin's is a stand out track by far on this album. Detroit native ChadRoto lays down a strong but simple hook while Jody Lo shoots bars on the verses over a trappy type beat creating a perfect chemistry. On Toxic Relationship the theme as self explanatory and something a lot of us can relate to as the first verse details traits of a toxic woman, the 2nd verse gives traits of a toxic man while the hook explains how they deal with one another, the song was awesome. Other notable tracks are; Break the bed, off the muscle, running man & Snakes. After a whole week on the streets, "DOPE!" by Jody Lo seems to be a successful project. Gathering thousands of streams as well as hundreds of Albums sold in the first week, the album continues to spread and will probably be played for a long time.

Grisly BK brings a merge of today's sound and style, and mixes it with a content based hip hop sound of yesterday. And it is working perfectly for his character sound. He delivers his words with an aggressive hunger and gritty voice tone, yet still holding remarkable clarity. It is an actual "emotion" determination to be recognized for talent i have not had the pleasure of hearing in a while.
Currently releasing singles, he is in talks of getting a project put together. it's obvious after checking out a few tracks, he wants his album to be delivered in a whole. meaning each song fitting a certain preference relating to the titled catalog as a full length project. Yet, I personally think a collection of Grisly BK's music would move well either way. Every punch line, metaphor and rhyme scheme is so intricately placed on the beat, everything Grisly BK touches turns into an instant classic for this Hip Hop consumer.

Depression. We here about it...we say people act out its characteristics...we in general...ignore it. But it is a huge issue in the world. Many suffer from it. It affects their everyday living and the everyday living of those around them. It has been deemed so normal to feel "depressed", that many don't even realize they have depression, and try their best to function in a normal evreyday setting. Often questioning what is wrong with them,...often blaming them self for everything,...and in many tragic incidents, it has led to suicide. It doesn't see gender, race, religion or age. And often goes unnoticed.
It is really because of that it is such a touchy subject. Especially in the music industry. It is described and spoken of in just about any genre. many "classic" songs were made about depression of the artist and thoughts of ending it all. But few touch the actual struggles of depression. The cause of, or the battle of living with it. Enter Mirko....
I will start off by saying everything about this musical presentation is simply AMAZING. A hot hiphop beat, and a thorough lyricist delivering bar after melodic bar of subject as well as substance. And why is this artist a perfect candidate to take the front line in recognizing this disease so many struggle with? His mom.
Mirko is the child of a Mother who suffers from depression. Mirko has seen first hands the battles from within, that some who have fought this beast, can almost compare to the religious tales of the war with right and wrong. Depression is more than a weight on a persons shoulders. It is an actual mountain. And for many...the only way they make it through, is the love and support of family.
So the sincere reality is there when checking out his new video release "Mom." Mirko speaks on the pain of watching her go through it all. And how he always was and always will be a son who loves his mother, as a system of complete support on her darkest days. While spinning his story to us, he reminds the rest of us to be the same for our loved ones. Because sometimes just saying you care, can be all the difference in this persons war today.
The video itself is a piece cinematic excellence. Smooth steady shots, and vivid color grading only adds to the energy of hope Mirko was creating with this master piece. I'm of the things I enjoyed personally, was the continual statistics that popped up through the video. It was almost like a dope hip hop version of those late night infomercials you see. Either way, whatever it was, I was sold.
