BRONX, New York (WABC) -- A college student from the Bronx has been indicted for selling 73 weapons and high-capacity magazines to an undercover NYPD officer.
Authorities say 23-year-old Shakor Rodriguez transported the weapons from the south, and sometimes carried them on a bus in a duffle bag.
Rodriguez, originally from the Bronx, was attending Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.
He is charged in two indictments totaling 304 counts.
According to the investigation, Rodriguez sold most of the weapons near his former home near Weeks Avenue and Nelson Avenue in the Bronx, and multiple sales occurred on Allen Street in Manhattan.
"Stopping traffickers who flood our streets with illegal guns is mission critical in our work to smash the Iron Pipeline," NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said. "The NYPD's officers, working with their prosecutorial partners in the Bronx District Attorney's Office, are the first line of defense in protecting our residents, our families, and our children from the scourge of gun violence and I commend their work in this important case."
The investigation is continuing into how he obtained the guns and where they were purchased.
News of the major arrest comes as the Interstate Task Force on Illegal Guns held its first meeting.
Nine states, federal law enforcement agencies, and the NYPD are now working together to stop the flow of illegal gun.
Governor Kathy Hochul says New York has seen an 80% increase in firearm homicides since 2019.
"This is a national crisis, 90 of the 100 cities in the America are seeing an escalation in gun violence cases and we have to make sure that we're working together," she said.
The task force will focus on real-time intelligence gathering.
Hochul has also set aside more money for gun tracing and gun violence disruption programs.
Funds will be spent on social media analysts to identify people before they buy an illegal gun.
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (ClickOrlando) – Orange County deputies believe they have solved a 25-year-old using DNA evidence taken from a discarded beer can.
Kenneth Stough Jr., 54, was arrested Tuesday, accused in the stabbing of a convenience store clerk in February of 1996.
Deputies were called to a Lil’ Champ mini-mart before 7 a.m. on Feb. 3, 1996. A man was driving by the store & saw that the lights were out, which was unusual as the store was typically open at that time. He then called the sheriff’s office.
When deputies made their way inside, they found Terrence Paquette in the bathroom, dead with 73 stab wounds.
Deputies said there was a large amount of blood in the bathroom & around the store. Samples were collected & investigators determined not all of the blood was Paquette’s.
Detectives could not identify who the second blood samples had come from & the case went cold before being reopened in 2003.
In March 2021, detectives submitted the unknown blood sample to a genealogy database & found that the blood belonged to someone who was related to Kenneth Stough Sr. & Carol Ann Crawford.
Deputies said they discovered that they had 3 sons. They found that Stough Jr. had lived across the street from the victim around the time of the murder.
Detectives said they found Stough Jr. & began surveillance. Investigators saw him throw out a bag of empty beer cans in a public dumpster. The cans were retrieved & Stough Jr.’s DNA was retrieved from the discarded cans & came back as a match for the unknown blood sample.
Stough Jr. faces charges of first-degree murder with a weapon & robbery with a deadly weapon.

(Reuters) An attacker killed about 60 people and injured 100 when he drove a truck at high speed into crowds watching Bastille Day fireworks in the French Riviera city of Nice late on Thursday, local media quoted officials as saying.
Police shot and killed the driver, who drove at high speed for over 100 meters (yards) along the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront before hitting the mass of spectators, regional sub-prefect Sebastien Humbert told France Info radio.
Broadcaster i-Tele quoted the prosecutor's office as saying the preliminary death toll was 60. Local lawmaker Eric Ciotti told France Info radio more probably had died. Other officials put the number of wounded at at least 100 and possibly more.
Humbert described it as a clear criminal attack, although the driver was not yet identified. Residents of the Mediterranean city close to the Italian border were advised to stay indoors. There was no sign of any other attack.
Almost exactly eight months ago Islamic State militants killed 130 people in Paris on Nov. 13, the bloodiest in a number of attacks in France and Belgium in the past two years. On Sunday, France had breathed a sigh of relief as the month-long Euro 2016 soccer tournament ended without a feared attack.
Officials were cautious about accounts from bystanders that the lone man driving the truck had also opened fire and, amid chatter on social media of a hostage situation, police called on people not to propagate rumors that were hampering their work.
One woman told France Info she and others had fled in terror: "The lorry came zig-zagging along the street. We ran into a hotel and hid in the toilets with lots of people."
Another woman told the station she was sheltering in a restaurant on the promenade with some 200 other people, where things had calmed down about two hours after the incident.
"Dear Nicois," local mayor Christian Estrosi tweeted, "The driver of a truck appears to have killed dozens of people. Stay at home for the time being. More news to follow."
Regional newspaper Nice Matin quoted its reporter at the scene saying there were many injured people and blood on the street. It published a photograph of a damaged, long-distance delivery truck, which it said was riddled with bullets and images of emergency services treating the injured.
Damien Allemand, the paper's correspondent, was quoted as saying: "People are running. It's panic. He rode up onto the Prom and piled into the crowd ... There are people covered in blood. There must be many injured."
Social media carried images of people lying apparently lifeless in pools of blood.
Local mayor Estrosi has warned in the past of the risk of Islamist attacks in the region, following Islamic State bloodshed in Paris and Brussels over the past 18 months.
French President Francois Hollande, who was in the south of France at the time, had hours earlier said a state of emergency put in place after the Paris attacks in November would not be extended when it was due to expire on July 26.
"We can't extend the state of emergency indefinitely, it would make no sense. That would mean we're no longer a republic with the rule of law applied in all circumstances," Hollande told journalists in a traditional Bastille Day interview.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors took their last shot at Michael Jordan and history and they swished it — for 73.
Down to their final chance at the record, the Warriors became the first 73-win team Wednesday night by beating the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104, breaking what many considered an unmatchable mark set 20 years ago by Jordan's Chicago Bulls — oh, and Golden State coach Steve Kerr, too.
"It's a great way to finish off what was an amazing regular season," Kerr said. "I just told our guys I never in a million years would have guessed that that record would ever be broken. I thought it was like DiMaggio's hit streak, really. I was wrong, but I will say the same thing now that I said 20 years ago, 'I don't think this one will ever be broken.' Somebody's got to go 74-8. I don't see it, and I hope our fans aren't expecting that next year."
Curry achieved yet one more shooting milestone, becoming the first player to make 400 3-pointers in a season by knocking down 10 from long range on the way to 46 points and 402 total 3s. Golden State saved one last record for the closing day of the regular season, and did it for a roaring, sellout home crowd at Oracle Arena. Yet these Warriors want nothing more than to build off their remarkable run so far and ride it to another title.
"Who knows how far we can take this thing?" Curry said.
The Bulls won the title in 1996 — and Jordan mentioned the playoffs in a congratulatory statement.
"I want to congratulate the Warriors on their amazing season," Jordan said. "The game of basketball is always evolving and records are made to be broken. The Warriors have been a lot of fun to watch and I look forward to seeing what they do in the playoffs."
Draymond Green had 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as defending champion Golden State (73-9) topped the Jordan-led 1995-96 Bulls who went 72-10.
When the final buzzer sounded, Green bounded onto the floor and grabbed the game ball as confetti streamed down and "73 WINS" appeared on the scoreboard.
"It means I'm part of the best team ever," Green said later, still palming the game ball. "Not many people can say that — 15 guys can say that, and that's amazing."
President Barack Obama sent a tweet that said: "Congrats to the @warriors, a great group of guys on and off the court. If somebody had to break the Bulls' record, I'm glad it's them."
Congrats to the @Warriors, a great group of guys on and off the court. If somebody had to break the Bulls' record, I'm glad it's them.
The Warriors went for it, all right. They absolutely wanted this record, even when they could have been resting up for the next challenge: to repeat. And Curry? No doubt about it. He came out and did what he has all along during this sensational season: Let it fly from anywhere on the floor.
Curry had seven 3-pointers by halftime, then hit No. 400 just 43 seconds into the third.
Already the first player to make 300 3-pointers in a season, he knocked down six in the first quarter and three straight during one jaw-dropping stretch that included a 31-footer well behind the top of the arc. And Curry immediately began trending on Twitter.
"At a certain point, about eight minutes in the first quarter, I was able to toe the line a couple times, knock it down and things started to flow," Curry said. "I was searching for it at that point because I made a couple. Kind of let it come to me and then have some fun with it."
Curry shattered his own single-season record of 286 from a year ago. When he hit his 400th, the reigning MVP raised his arms and patted his chest in celebration.
He made 10 of 19 3-pointers and shot 15 for 24 overall to go with six assists as fans chanted "M-V-P! M-V-P!" all evening. Klay Thompson added 16 points with four 3s of his own before Curry rested the fourth quarter and Thompson most of it.
For all of those so-called experts who doubted the Warriors' first championship in 40 years last June that didn't go through San Antonio, this season might have changed their tune.
Golden State not only won nearly every night with a cool swagger and new focus on the offensive end but with a determination to be far better than during that special season.
From Day 1, Kerr challenged the Warriors to make big strides.
Already the Western Conference's No. 1 seed heading into this weekend's playoffs, Golden State had to get past the very Memphis team the Warriors squeaked by 100-99 four days earlier on the Grizzlies' home floor to keep themselves in position to make history.
The Warriors whipped the Grizzlies 119-69 at home back on Nov. 2, with the 50-point win the third-largest margin of victory in franchise history.
Kerr missed his team's 24-0 start and the first 43 games overall — Luke Walton led the Warriors to a 39-4 record in Kerr's absence — while dealing with complications following two back surgeries.
The Warriors had their NBA-record 54-game home winning streak in the regular season snapped in an April 1 loss to Boston at Oracle. Golden State finished 39-2 at home for the second straight year.
Zach Randolph scored 24 points to lead Memphis, which lost its fourth in a row to end the season.

Extreme violence erupted in Egypt Wednesday (February 1) following a soccer game leaving at least 73 people dead and possibly as many as 1000 injured according to CBC.
CNN is reporting that Egypt's health minister has confirmed a conservative estimate of at least 200 injured.
The fights broke out after a match in Port Said between the Al-Ahly team and Port Said's Al-Masry team.
"It's kind of a security vacuum in the football stadium. ... It's not unheard of to have organized violence between football clubs, but something on this scale has never been seen before," said James Montague, who researched soccer in the Middle East for his book "When Friday Comes: Football in the War Zone."
Witnesses say most of the injuries occurred during a stampede after fans of the home team, Al-Masry, stormed on to the field following a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly, Egypt's top team. They then chased players and fans from the rival team.
Another match in Cairo was halted due to the violence in Port Said. Upset fans are said to have set fire to parts of the stadium there causing more injuries.
