Video After The Jump

Nicolas Chavez, already weakened by two gunshot wounds, was on his knees and pulling a Taser toward him as four Houston Police Department officers fired a fatal barrage of bullets, according to police video of the encounter.

The officers involved in the April 21 death — identified as Sgt. Benjamin LeBlanc, officers Patrick Rubio, Omar Tapia and Luis Alvarado — were fired Thursday for what police Chief Art Acevedo said was their decision to fire a combined 21 rounds at Chavez, who was suffering from an apparent mental break and who died following their 15-minute encounter in east Houston. Acevedo determined the fatal shots were “not objectively reasonable.”

“You don’t get to shoot somebody 21 times,” Acevedo said. “Because, at the time, Mr. Chavez was at his greatest level of incapacitation.”

Prior to his death, Chavez, 27, had already been shot, stunned and was unable to get up on his own, Acevedo said. The officers, he continued, could have taken two to three steps back when he reached for the spent Taser but instead opened fire.

“I cannot defend that,” Acevedo continued.

Chavez was rushed to a hospital but did not survive. A toxicology report later found traces of meth and alcohol in Chavez’s body at the time of his death.

Concerned citizens first reported seeing a distraught man throwing himself in front of cars along Interstate 10 near Lockwood Street and jumping fences in the Denver Harbor neighborhood. One caller said he had what appeared to be a “metal tube” in his hand. He was bleeding and ranting.

Those calls led police to Chavez, who could be seen frantically huddled under a street light.

“I’m a MHMRA patient and I feel like dying,” Chavez is heard crying out, using an old acronym for the Harris Center mental health clinic.

“That’s fine,” another officer told him. “Have a seat.”

But Chavez paced the parking lot instead, at times stumbling, flailing and stabbing himself with what officers believed was a knife. LeBlanc fired two bean bag rounds at Chavez and Alvarado followed with the Taser. Neither appeared to have an effect and Chavez began walking toward the officers with the metal object.

LeBlanc and another officer, Kevin Nguyen, fired a combined three shots as Chavez approached him and a constable’s deputy. Acevedo said he found only that instance in the 24 total rounds fired to be reasonable.

Undefeated boxing star Travell Mazion -- known as "Black Magic" -- was killed Wednesday in a car crash in Austin, TMZ Sports has confirmed.

He was only 24.

Details about the crash are unclear -- we're working on it.

Mazion was 17-0 as a pro -- most recently defeating Fernando Castaneda at the Alamodome in San Antonio back in January.

It was an impressive :58 second victory for Mazion -- who won the NABF 154 pound title in the process.

Travell was a talented guy with tremendous potential. He was once backed by NFL star Von Miller.

Tributes are already pouring in from the boxing world.

Boxer Vergil Ortiz Jr. said, "I can’t believe it, R.I.P Travell Mazion."

"For those who don’t know him or never met him, he was a very talented boxer and one of the coolest people I knew. Always enjoyed watching him fight. Love you bro, watch over us."

(CNN) YouTube star Nicole Thea has died at the age of 24, along with her unborn baby.

The London-based influencer's family confirmed the news on Sunday in an Instagram post, stating that Thea's unborn son had also died.

"To all Nicole's friends and supporters it is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Nicole and her son she and Boga named Reign sadly passed away on Saturday morning," the statement read.
The message explained that Thea had pre-scheduled "a few YouTube videos" to upload on her channel before her death, and her boyfriend, Boga, had "made the decision to allow them to be aired."

The family asked for privacy, saying "our hearts are truly broken and we are struggling to cope with what has happened."

The cause of Thea's death is not yet known. The former dancer was around eight months pregnant.

Thea had amassed more than 80,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, where she often discussed her pregnancy journey and posted content featuring boyfriend Global Boga -- real name Jeffery Frimpong -- who is a street dancer.

Her most recent video, titled "GOT IN A BATH FULL OF MILK! *BTS PREGNANCY SHOOT," was uploaded on Sunday.

In the 14-minute footage, Thea can be seen getting ready for her milk bath, while talking her followers through the process. She also showcased special moments from her maternity photoshoot.

Dr. Dre and his wife of 24 years are ending their marriage ... she's filed for divorce.

Nicole Young filed the paperwork Monday, citing the usual irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from the hip-hop mogul.

Dre married Nicole on May 25, 1996, and they have 2 adult children together -- a son named Truice and a daughter named Truly -- so they won't have to deal with child support.

Sources connected to Nicole say there is no prenup. Dre's net worth, according to Forbes, is estimated at $800 million.

Nicole is also seeking spousal support.

She was formerly married to NBA player, Sedale Threatt. Young works as a lawyer and is represented in the divorce by a high-powered celeb attorney, Samantha Spector.

We've reached out to Dr. Dre's rep. He had no comment.

(CNN) A memorial service for Kobe Bryant and the other eight people killed in a January helicopter crash will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 24, a source close to the basketball legend's family said Thursday.

The date 2/24 could be viewed as symbolic as Bryant wore No. 24 during the latter part of his illustrious NBA career and his daughter Gianna wore No. 2 for her youth basketball teams.

Gianna, 13, also was killed when the helicopter, headed to a basketball tournament, crashed on a foggy Sunday morning. The other victims were Gianna's teammates Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester; Alyssa's parents, John and Keri; Payton's mother, Sarah; assistant girls basketball coach Christina Mauser; and helicopter pilot Ara Zobayan.

The memorial event, which falls on a Monday, is between two Lakers home games.

But the Staples Center is also home to the Los Angeles Clippers NBA team. Because they are currently scheduled to host Memphis on the evening of February 24, the memorial will likely take place during the day.

An area in front of Staples Center, until recently, was the site of a massive fan memorial comprising flowers, jerseys and other other mementos. The arena seats about 20,000 people for concerts.

Video And Pics After The Jump

(CNNArizona investigators have released dramatic video of a Walmart parking lot brawl that left a police officer wounded, one man dead, and reportedly involved members of a Christian family band.

Enoch Gaver, 21, was killed in the fight in the town of Cottonwood, and suspect David Gaver, 28, was shot in the stomach and taken into custody. Police Sergeant Jeremy Daniels was hit in the leg by a bullet fired during the melee.

The police dashcam video, released Friday, shows Cottonwood Police approaching the group of eight people -- all identified as members of the Gaver family -- around a large SUV in a Walmart parking lot on March 21.

Officers wanted to question them about the alleged assault of a Walmart employee who was going into the store bathroom. The police were accompanied by another Walmart employee.

12351500883?profile=original

On the video, an officer tells the group that they "need to separate these folks and talk to them." Someone then responds, "No, you are not going to separate me from my parents," and, "don't touch me."

The video then shows a police officer being put in a headlock and knocked to the ground.

The sound of Taser fire is heard. Police say pepper spray was deployed and that at least three shots were fired in an apparent struggle for an officer's gun.

Several times on the video the group appears to surrender, but starts fighting again. The melee goes for several minutes until backup officers arrive and make arrests.

A Wal-Mart employee who tried to help suffered a broken arm in the incident on 21 March.

Four members of the family were arrested: 55-year-old Peter Gaver, 52-year-old Ruth Gaver, 27-year-old Nathan Gaver, and 29-year-old Jeremiah Gaver.

Nathan Gaver is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest

Jeremiah Gaver is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest

At least three members of the family are reportedly in a Christian band named "Matthew 24 Now," which is a Bible verse that refers to the end times, according to CNN affiliate KPHO. The family was living out of its Chevy Suburban.
