The mystery surrounding the gun thought to have been used to kill Tupac Shakur just took another strange turn.
As we previously reported, a .40 caliber Glock was found in the backyard of a Compton residence in 1988. It was turned over to police and booked as found property on May 30, 1998.
Fast forward to 2006, when an L.A. County Sheriff's Department Deputy by the name of T. Brennan was working on the unsolved murder of The Notorious B.I.G. While sifting through paperwork, Brennan noticed the address where the gun was found matched the home of the girlfriend of a Crip member Tupac had beef with.
After ballistics tests proved the weapon was used to kill 'Pac it was supposed to be sent to Las Vegas PD, where the murder occurred, but it somehow it got lost.
On Saturday, December 23, TMZ reported that they had tracked it down.
The ATF Agents who originally tested the gun said it was a possible match in Tupac's death and another unsolved murder in Vegas. ATF spokesperson Ginger Colbrun told TMZ that the weapon was then sent to Vegas.
Las Vegas PD conducted it's own ballistics tests and determined the Glock had not been used in Tupac's murder.
Police sent it back to ATF in 2006, where it sat in storage until 2013. Colbrun says as part of standard operating procedure the gun was destroyed.
Tupac's 1996 murder remains unsolved.
