SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Lawyers for Usain Bolt, one of the world’s greatest sprinters, said Wednesday that more than $12.7 million is missing from his account with a private investment firm in Jamaica that authorities are investigating.
Attorney Linton P. Gordon provided The Associated Press with a copy of a letter sent to Stocks & Securities Limited demanding that the money be returned.
Gordon said Bolt’s account once had $12.8 million but now reflects a balance of only $12,000.
“If this is correct, and we are hoping it is not, then a serious act of fraud larceny or a combination of both have been committed against our client,” Bolt’s attorneys say in the letter.
They threaten civil & criminal action if the money is not returned within 10 days.
Stocks & Securities Limited asked via it's website that clients direct all urgent queries to Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission, which is investigating the firm.
The company has said that it discovered the fraud earlier this month and that several of its clients may be missing millions of dollars.
Bolt’s lawyers sent the letter Monday, the same day that Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission announced it was appointing a special auditor to look into fraud allegations at Stocks & Securities Limited, which is based in the capital of Kingston.
Bolt, who retired in 2017, holds the world records for the 100 meters, 200 meters & 4x100 meters.

A Broward County teacher won't be allowed to work with students following her arrest in connection with her 1-year-old son's death from a fentanyl overdose, school district officials said.
Shaneka Dean, 30, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child & possession of fentanyl in the death of her son, 1-year-old Zaire Cenatus.
Dean has been a language arts teacher at Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes since last February.
"The District is aware of the arrest & will take appropriate actions. The employee will not be working with students," the statement said.
The child's father, 30-year-old Wendy Previl, is facing the same charges in his death.
Officials said the incident happened back on Sept. 24 at a home in Deerfield Beach when deputies responding to a medical emergency found the couple's child in medical distress.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. It was discovered he'd died from a lethal combination of drugs, including fentanyl.
Detectives determined after a lengthy investigation that the parents had been negligent & had "failed to provide the care, supervision & services necessary" for the boy.

A man who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican state politician in New Mexico is accused by police of masterminding a shooting spree targeting the homes of Democrats.
Solomon Pena, 39, conspired with & paid 4 other men to shoot the properties of 4 local politicians, say Albuquerque police.
No one was hurt in the attacks soon after November's elections.
Mr Pena lost his attempt to sit in the state's House & contested his defeat.
The election result was a convincing one, with his Democratic opponent & incumbent winning 73% of the vote.
On 15 November he posted a photo of himself in a Make America Great Again sweatshirt & draped in a Trump 2024 flag, saying he would not concede the election.
On December 4th, 8 shots were fired into a commissioner's home & then 12 bullets at another commissioner's home a week later.
On 3 January, 3 shots were fired at a state Democrat's home. The bullets travelled through her young daughter's bedroom. A fourth politician then found damage to his property.
Police feared the shootings were linked & politically motivated & were led to Mr Pena by phone records, witness statements & ballistic evidence from the scene. some of the shots. They said more arrests will be made.
As well as masterminding the operation, police also believe Mr Pena fired some of the shots. They said more arrests will be made.
Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller said this kind of radicalism was a threat to the nation.
"This was about a right-wing radical, an election denier who was arrested today & someone who did the worst imaginable thing you can do when you have a political disagreement, which is turn that to violence," he said.

RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) - A former Ole Miss and professional football player was arrested & charged with kidnapping Thursday.
According to Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers, Jerrell Powe, 35, of Buckatunna, Mississippi, was encountered by Ridgeland police at Chase Bank in Ridgeland. Myers said that an accomplice, 35-year-old Gavin Bates of Roseville, California, was arrested & charged with kidnapping as well.
Chief Myers said that the incident began in Laurel, Mississippi, & ended in Ridgeland when the victim was able to contact Ridgeland PD, who told officers he was kidnapped “against his will,” & was “forced to withdraw money” at the bank.
Investigators are currently gathering facts & evidence regarding the incident.
Chief Myers said the victim is safe.
Powe & Bates are being held at the Madison County Detention Center without bond & are pending a hearing on Tuesday, January 17.
Ridgeland PD said further criminal charges are possible.

A 14-year-old girl shot and killed an 11-year-old boy at a Dallas apartment complex on Sunday during a fight with another girl, police say.
Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at about 2 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 3300 block of Southern Oaks Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation determined that a fight between two girls occurred in the parking lot and that the boy killed was a bystander. Family members identified the boy to NBC 5 on Monday afternoon as D'evan McFall.
Police said the 14-year-old girl retrieved a handgun and shot in the direction of the other girl, police said. However, the bullet struck McFall who was nearby.
McFall was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The girl ran from the location but was later taken into custody after being found at a nearby apartment complex, according to police.

VISALIA, Calif. (AP) — Six people — including a 17-year-old mother and her 6-month-old baby — were killed in a shooting early Monday at a home in central California, and authorities are searching for at least two suspects, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. to reports of multiple shots fired at the residence in unincorporated Goshen, just east of Visalia, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.
“Actually the report was that an active shooter was in the area because of the number of shots that were being fired,” Sheriff Mike Boudreaux told reporters.
Deputies found two victims dead in the street and a third person fatally shot in the doorway of the residence, Boudreaux said.
Three more victims were found inside the home, including a man who was still alive but later died at a hospital, he said.
The sheriff said investigators are searching for at least two suspects. They believe there is a gang connection to the killings. The sheriff’s office conducted a narcotics-related search warrant at the residence last week, Boudreaux said.
“We also believe this was not a random act of violence. We believe this was a targeted family,” he said.
Goshen is a semi-rural community of about 3,000 residents 35 miles southeast of Fresno in the agricultural San Joaquin Valley.
