BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Investigators searching through garbage found the body of a 3-year-old girl who was missing more than a week, and authorities are charging two people with murder, police said Tuesday.
Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith told a news conference that the remains of Kamille McKinney were located in a trash bin that had been taken to a landfill. Police had been watching garbage deposits from a certain part of the city, he said.
Smith said police were obtaining murder warrants against two people previously identified as persons of interest in the case, 39-year-old Patrick Devone Stallworth and his 29-year-old girlfriend, Derick Irisha Brown.
Lawyers for both have said they are innocent.
The child, known as “Cupcake” to relatives, vanished while outside a birthday party on Oct. 12. Investigators know of no link between the suspects and the girl or her family, Smith said.
“We believe this was something they thought about and acted upon. They saw an opportunity to take a young child, and they did,” said Smith, who did not reveal a potential motive.
Stallworth, arrested after officers located a vehicle seen near the abduction site, previously was charged with child pornography, but authorities said the charge wasn’t related to the missing child.
It wasn’t clear how long the child might have been dead. Mayor Randall Woodfin said the girl’s parents were experiencing “unimaginable” pain.
“This is a tough moment for our city, a tough moment for the family,” he said.
Gov. Kay Ivey, in a statement Tuesday night, offered her condolences to Kamille’s family.
“The heart of our state is broken...,” Ivey said. “Our prayers remain with Kamille’s family and all who have been touched by this nightmare.”

(TMZ) -- Suge Knight's rise and fall is going to be immortalized in writing ... and he says he's tapped Nick Cannon to write the book.
Suge shared the big news Monday during a phone call from his state prison in San Diego ... revealing Nick's plan to author the story of his life.
So, why Nick?!? Suge says he considers him one of the most respected people in Hollywood, and that's why he's trusting Nick with the monumental biography task.
Nick's joining Ray J in helping Suge cash in on his legacy ... as we first told you, the former Death Row Records boss signed over his life rights to Ray J, giving Ray the green light to use his likeness in movies, music, publications and all types of media.
Suge clarified that Ray J won't be the only one calling the shots, saying his fiancee Toi-Linn Kelly has his power of attorney. However, we've seen the contract with Ray, and it gives him creative control.
In fact, Suge says Ray is also going to handle the future of Death Row Records, and it sounds like there's a new album in the works.
Suge sounds confident he'll be out of prison sooner than later. As we've reported, he struck a 28-year plea deal in his murder case last year, but due to prison overcrowding and getting credit for time served ... he could be released in little over a decade.
One thing's for certain ... Suge's got a helluva tale, so Nick's got his work cut out for him.
Report via TMZ -- Future's pulling out (figuratively speaking, that is) all the stops to ghost a new alleged baby mama ... so she claims in a new paternity case alleging he's fathered his EIGHTH CHILD!!!
Cindy Renae Parker has filed legal docs in Nueces County, Texas alleging Future is the father of her 3-month-old son, Legend Ary Wilburn. No, you didn't read that wrong. Anyway ... according to docs, obtained by TMZ, Cindy claims she's made repeated attempts to serve the rapper with papers, but to no avail.
Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Cindy says Future agreed to a paternity test but then he went radio silent on her when it came time to get it done. We're told taking Future to court was Cindy's last resort and she wanted to solve this amicably and on their own.
Our sources say Cindy got a judge's permission to serve Future's lawyers in his home state of Georgia ... because cause he's harder to track down than Jimmy Hoffa.
This baby mama drama, of course, is becoming a ritual of sorts for Future. TMZ broke the story ... nearly 2 months ago to the date, Eliza Seraphin filed legal docs in Florida alleging he fathered her 6-month-old daughter.
Eliza, like Cindy, alleged Future ghosted her after she gave birth in April. That case is still pending. No word if Maury Povich has volunteered to offer his services.
We've reached out to Future. So far, no word back.
(KTNV) -- Hip hop producer Jamal Rashid, commonly known as “Mally Mall,” pleaded guilty today in federal court to unlawfully owning and operating a prostitution business guised as escort businesses, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich for the District of Nevada.
Rashid, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of use of an interstate facility in aid of unlawful activity. U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware II, accepted the guilty plea and scheduled a sentencing hearing for January 21, 2020.
According to information contained in the plea agreement, between April 2002 and September 2014, Rashid owned, operated, and managed several businesses in Clark County that purported to offer legal escort services. Rashid admitted that he carried on an unlawful prostitution business through these escort businesses.
He routinely used or caused others to use cell phones and other means to cause women who worked at his escort businesses to conduct acts of prostitution in Clark County. In some instances, Rashid’s credit card was used to pay for the airfare and other travel-related expenses and he used various paid websites, such as Backpage and Eros, to advertise the women for prostitution purposes. Furthermore, Rashid induced and enticed numerous women to engage in prostitution.
The case was investigated by the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Dickinson is prosecuting the case.
The back and forth war of words between Gucci Mane and 2 of the 3 hosts of The Breakfast Club continues.
This all started two years ago when Gucci appeared on The Breakfast Club. At the he time claimed that Angela Yee had previously tried to get him to smash by texting him the location of her hotel. Yee denied the accusation.
Fast forward to early October of 2019, when Gucci made an Instagram post saying he had been banned from the show over the incident.
Yee and co-host DJ Envy responded with "The Breakfast Court" on Power 105.1. Envy served as judge while Yee pointed out inaccuracies in Gucci's story. The duo asked callers to decide who was lying. An overwhelming number said the Atlanta rapper was.
That leads us to an interview with the third member of the TBC team, Charlamagne Tha God, which aired today. Gucci stuck to his original story about Yee and said he was going to slap Envy once he confronted him, if he didn't like what the DJ had to say.
Envy responded with an Instagram post.
"This isn’t the 1st time I’ve been threatened by an artist and probably won’t be the last time... I never been slapped, or snuffed or jumped before so not sure where that came from," Envy wrote. "But funny by all means... @laflare1017 was never banned from the @breakfastclubam When asked, 'Would I do an interview without Yee.' My reply was, 'I will not do anything unless you clear it with my co-worker.' We call that riding for your team where I’m from! And he’s upset because my coworker defended herself."

Report via TMZ -- Suge Knight could be in prison for the rest of his life, but he doesn't want to go out a broke man ... so he's entrusting Ray J to cash in on his name.
Sources close to the former Death Row Records boss tell TMZ ... he's signed over his life rights to Ray, with the expectation he'll make the right decisions with Suge's story and make some money for him and his family while he's behind bars.
We're told Knight's been friends with Ray J for decades and trusts his business acumen and ability to choose the right projects for film, TV, book publications and more.
Our sources say a documentary on Suge and his famous record label is already being developed ... as well as a project about Tupac Shakur and there are discussions of bringing Death Row back.
On the latter, we're told it's a longshot that would require additional investors ... but Suge's letting J take the reins on exploring the venture.
Of course, all of this is huge for Ray J and his bank account too ... which is a nice follow-up to the lucrative $1 million deal he inked in August to get people to invest in the weed biz.
Looks like he's now in charge of 2 major enterprises -- not to mention side hustles in the headphones and scooter industries ... so business looks good.
Suge, meanwhile, is serving hard time for at least the next decade. As we reported ... he struck a 28-year plea deal in his murder case last year, but got credit for time served and with prison overcrowding, he could be released in a little more than 10 years.
If Ray J's successful ... he could be getting out of prison and walking into a fortune.
