(CNN) A Texas man is accused of robbing a bank because he couldn't pay for his wedding.
Heath Bumpous turned himself in on Friday, about two hours after he robbed the Citizens State Bank in Groveton, Texas -- and a day before he was set to get married, according to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace. The bank is only about 500 feet away from the sheriff's office in the small town north of Houston.
"He basically stated that he was getting married tomorrow so he didn't have enough money for a wedding ring that he wanted to buy and he needed to pay for the wedding venue," Wallace said in a video message posted Friday on Facebook.
Wallace said that Bumpous went into the bank and "demanded money and indicated that he had a weapon."
He was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of money, Wallace said.
The sheriff's office posted pictures from the bank's surveillance video and a description of his vehicle on social media to see if the public could identify the suspect.
Someone did -- his fiancee.
She recognized him from the images and convinced him to surrender in nearby Houston County, where they live, Wallace said.
He is being held on charges of aggravated robbery. CNN was unable to contact Bumpous and county officials did not know on Monday morning if he had an attorney.
Wallace said Bumpous confessed to the robbery during questioning.
Authorities were able to recover most of the money and found a gun while processing the car, Wallace said. They also found clothes that he had thrown out of his car while making his getaway.
CNN affiliate KTRE reported that Bumpous is a former EMS employee from Crockett, Texas.
The Groveton Independent School District issued a "Lock Out" after the robbery and would not let anyone in or out of school buildings until authorities determined it was safe, according to a Nixle alert issued by the sheriff's office.

Report via TMZ -- 50 Cent is producing a new docuseries covering a wide range of celebs ... and the most interesting story on the docket is the rise and fall of Tekashi 6ix9ine.
Production sources tell TMZ ... Fiddy's scripted series will focus on Tekashi, Snoop Dogg, music producer Scott Storch, former NBA stud Rafer Alston and 50 himself.
The docuseries is called "A Moment in Time" ... and it will have 6 to 8 hour-long episodes dedicated to each subject.
Our sources say 50 is framing Tekashi's story around his brief but controversial rap career. As you know, 69 rose to fame by incorporating the Nine Trey Bloods gang into his music, only to be busted by the feds and turn into a snitch.
As we reported ... there were rumblings about 50 snagging movie rights for Tekashi ... and now we know a documentary is in the works.
Our sources say Snoop Dogg's episodes will focus on his murder trial, which happened at the same time he had the highest-selling hip-hop album in the country, "Doggystyle."
Rafer's tale is about his journey from streetball legend to the 2009 NBA Finals with the Orlando Magic. Storch's story highlights his dynamic career as one of music's most high-profile producers.
And, the 50 Cent-focused eps include the making of his album, "The Massacre," and his beef with Jimmy Henchman.
Getcha popcorn ready.

DALLAS (Fox6) — A man who was a key witness in the murder trial of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was fatally shot Friday, Oct. 4 in the parking lot of his apartment complex, according to attorney Lee Merritt.
Joshua Brown was a neighbor of shooting victim Botham Jean, who was sitting in his apartment in September 2018 when Guyger walked inside and shot him to death.
Lee Merritt, attorney for Jean’s family, said he spoke to Brown’s mother, who confirmed the death.
Dallas police responded to a call for a shooting at the Atera Apartments complex around 10:30 p.m. Friday, police told CNN.
Officers were flagged down by witnesses who directed them to Brown, who was lying on the ground of the apartment parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to a statement from Dallas police.
Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots and saw a silver, four-door sedan speed out of the parking lot, police said.
Brown had no identification on him, so police couldn’t identify him until the medical examiner made a positive ID and notified the next of kin.
There is no suspect information at this time, police said.
Merritt said Brown lived in constant fear of gun violence and that’s why he was emotional on the witness stand during the trial.
“He said it could have been him,” Merritt said.
Guyger, 31, was found guilty of murder a few days ago and given a 10-year sentence. She will first be eligible for parole in five years.
The ex-officer said she mistakenly walked into the wrong apartment in her complex and opened fire because she thought Jean was an intruder.

CHICAGO (WGN9) — A jury on Friday convicted a man who prosecutors said plotted then tried to cover up the 2015 slaying of a 9-year-old boy who was lured into a Chicago alley with the promise of a juice box.
Corey Morgan was found guilty Friday of first-degree murder of Tyshawn Lee. The verdict came after a separate jury convicted Morgan's co-defendant, Dwright Boone-Doty, on Thursday and after a third man, Kevin Edwards, pleaded guilty last month in exchange for a 25-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors argued that the "execution" of Tyshawn was carried out as revenge, that the suspects believed the fourth grader's father was responsible for a shooting weeks earlier that left Morgan's brother dead and his mother wounded.
"They went after his family, he's going after their family," Assistant State's Attorney Craig Engebretson told jurors.
The three men found Tyshawn shooting baskets on the city's South Side, prosecutors said. Morgan and Edwards watched as Boone-Doty walked over to Tyshawn and struck up a conversation, the said.
What prosecutors said happened next turned one of hundreds of killings in Chicago that year into a national news story: Boone-Doty persuaded Tyshawn to come into an alley — out of sight of anyone else in the park — by promising him a juice box. Once in the alley, Boone-Doty pulled out a gun and fired several times at close range, according to prosecutors.
People in the park who came running over found the boy's body, his basketball a few feet away.
Prosecutors said Morgan gave Boone-Duty the gun just before he approached the boy. The murder weapon, they told jurors, was a gun that another brother of Morgan's had bought in New Mexico and mailed to him.
While Boone-Duty's DNA was found on Tyshawn's basketball, no scientific evidence linked Morgan to the crime. Instead, prosecutors relied on a witness who testified to seeing Morgan at the park and to seeing what he believed was a large gun in Morgan's pocket. They also presented GPS and cellphone evidence they said put him at the park that day, as well as evidence that shortly after the shooting he started looking at the Facebook pages of Tyshawn's father and mother.
"He wants to see them hurt the way he hurt," Engebretson said.
Morgan's lawyers said police focused on him because he was a gang member, and they argued that the person who identified Morgan as being in the park did so only after asking about a reward. Police wanted to quickly solve the case, and that Morgan "made sense" because of the shooting of his brother and mother, attorney Todd Pugh told jurors Thursday.
"He, in the eyes of police, is one of those throwaway people," Pugh said. He later went on to add: "He was a gang banger who police thought was never going to amount to anything.
