KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — A protester and volunteer medic wounded on the streets of Kenosha by Kyle Rittenhouse testified Monday that he was pointing his own gun at the rifle-toting Rittenhouse when the young man shot him.

Gaige Grosskreutz, the third & final man gunned down by Rittenhouse during a night of turbulent racial-justice protests in the summer of 2020, took the stand at Rittenhouse’s murder trial & recounted how he drew his own pistol to try to stop the bloodshed.

“I thought the defendant was an active shooter,” the 27-year-old Grosskreutz said. Asked what was going through his mind as he got closer to the 17-year-old Rittenhouse, he said, “That I was going to die.”

Rittenhouse shot Grosskreutz in the arm, tearing away much of his bicep — or “vaporized” it, as the witness put it.

Under questioning from the prosecution, Grosskreutz said he had his hands raised as he closed in on Rittenhouse. Prosecutor Thomas Binger asked Grosskreutz why he didn’t shoot first.

“That’s not the kind of person that I am. That’s not why I was out there,” he said. “It’s not who I am. And definitely not somebody I would want to become.”

But during cross-examination, Rittenhouse defense attorney Corey Chirafisi asked: “It wasn’t until you pointed your gun at him, advanced on him … that he fired, right?”

“Correct,” Grosskreutz replied.

Rittenhouse, now 18, is on trial on charges of killing two men & wounding Grosskreutz. The one-time police youth cadet from Antioch, Illinois, had gone to Kenosha with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle & a medical kit in what he said was an effort to safeguard property from the damaging demonstrations that broke out over the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by a white Kenosha police officer.

Prosecutors have portrayed Rittenhouse as the instigator of the bloodshed. His lawyers have argued that he acted in self-defense. He could get life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges against him.

Grosskreutz said he had gone to the protest in Kenosha to serve as a volunteer medic, wearing a hat that said “paramedic” & carrying medical supplies, in addition to a loaded pistol.

Grosskreutz said his permit to carry a concealed weapon had expired and he did not have a valid permit that night.

“I believe in the Second Amendment. I’m for people’s right to carry and bear arms,” he said, explaining why he was armed. “And that night was no different than any other day. It’s keys, phone, wallet, gun.”

He said he went into action after seeing Rittenhouse kill a man just feet away — the second person Rittenhouse fatally shot that night.

On cross-examination, Chirafisi sought to portray Grosskreutz as dishonest in his description of the moments right before he was shot, with Chirafisi asserting that Grosskreutz was chasing Rittenhouse with his gun out.

Grosskreutz denied he was chasing Rittenhouse & said that he was concerned about Rittenhouse’s safety after seeing others chase him & someone try to kick him.

Chirafisi also pointed to Grosskreutz’s lawsuit against the city of Kenosha, in which he alleges police enabled the violence by allowing an armed militia to have the run of the streets during the demonstration.

“If Mr. Rittenhouse is convicted, your chance of getting 10 million bucks is better, right?” Chirafisi said.

At the defense table, Rittenhouse kept his eyes on Grosskreutz as he testified, taking detailed notes when the witness spoke about the moment he was shot.

One juror nodded her head in agreement when the judge instructed the jury to disregard Grosskreutz’s referring to Rittenhouse’s fatal shooting of another protester as a “murder. ”

Travis Scott is stepping up to help the families of those who died at Astroworld Fest -- offering to pay funeral costs & extending even more help for those affected.

Travis just announced he'll be fully covering any and all funeral costs that might come about for the families of the 8 people who passed away at the concert this weekend.

We're told this is going to be coming from Travis' own pocket & that there'll be no questions asked as it pertains to those 8 individuals & what their families might need to properly lay their loved ones to rest.

There's more ... Travis is also going to be partnering with BetterHelp -- a network of mental health professionals -- to offer mental health services, for free, to anyone who attended Astroworld Fest who may need to talk through their trauma.

The BetterHelp resources will amount to one-on-one virtual therapy sessions with trained, licensed professionals working with the org. On top of this, BetterHelp will also team up with the National Alliance of Mental Illness for people who may need more help than just virtual & there's going be a hotline set up to that end, which Travis is also overseeing.

Unclear how exactly Trav & co. will vet claims for the service, but we imagine it's going to be a system that vets people ... to make sure they were, in fact, in attendance Friday.

Of course, that may mean there are thousands of people who take him up on it -- as there were countless folks in the crowd that night who might've been affected ... and if that happens, it probably won't be a cheap endeavor to ensure all those folks are cared for.

It's certainly a nice gesture & just one step of Travis trying to do right by his fans. Obviously, there's a lot more that may have to be done -- but at least he's starting here.

As we reported ... in addition to those who died, dozens more were injured to varying degrees & hospitalized & some of those people have already started to file lawsuits against Travis & Live Nation.

Travis Scott & Live Nation continue to have lawsuits pile up against them, with one Houston injury attorney just submitting 7 in the last hour for various clients & famed attorney Ben Crump is also repping victims.

The docs, obtained by TMZ, are mostly identical -- filed by the Houston law firm of Roberts Markland LLP -- but switch out the petitioner name each time. Each lawsuit claims both Travis & Live Nation failed to provide adequate security & a security plan to protect attendees & conditions at Astroworld Festival "caused several stampedes & a crowd compression" that led to the 8 deaths & hundreds of injuries.

The attorney behind these lawsuits -- Sean Roberts, doesn't list specific injuries for his clients, but says they were "seriously and permanently injured."

In the docs, Travis & LN are accused of failing to warn fans of safety risks & failing to provide appropriate medical staff at the event.

Of course, there will certainly be more lawsuits filed by concertgoers, and wrongful death litigation is expected as well. Attorney Ben Crump -- who repped the family of George Floyd -- has also stated he is representing Astroworld attendees.

Roberts is suing for negligence & wants an unspecified amount in damages for each of his clients.

Ireland Baldwin compared the outrage over Travis Scott’s deadly Astroworld show to the reaction her famous father got following his fatal “Rust” shooting.

In an Instagram Stories tirade, the 26-year-old model defended Scott, blaming criticism of him on “misinformation” and “twisted cancel culture bulls–t” — before later admitting that he “incites the rage” at his often violent shows.

“First, you were armory/stunt coordination pros when it came to the horrific tragedy involving my dad,” Baldwin wrote dad Alec Baldwin, who last month accidentally shot dead cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his Western movie “Rust.”

“And now Travis Scott is demonic because he ALLOWED people to die at his show?” she continued, referring to reports that Scott continued his show despite fans’ desperate pleas to stop amid the crush of people.

“But it’s not Travis Scott’s fault,” Ireland insisted in the rant saved by the Daily Mail before it was deleted.

She said “any musician would validate that you can’t see or hear anyone up there. Especially when wearing in-ear monitors.”

“C’mon people…do a little research before you go spewing cancel culture bulls–t,” she wrote in a caption over an image of an unmade bed.

“People lost their children at this show and you’ve got say is that Travis Scott’s music is demonic and be [sic] belongs in prison? Jesus,” she wrote.

She followed up with another post saying, “Maybe we should stick to what we actually know, stop making assumptions, stop spreading misinformation, and educate ourselves on things we know nothing about.”

“I am in no way defending Travis Scott because honestly, I don’t know him or care personally,” she said, contradicting her earlier post.

“I’ve been to two of his shows. I watched people get carried out on stretchers with head injuries and from ODs,” she wrote.

“He incites the rage. No doubt about that,” she added of the embattled rapper. “But I refuse to fall into this twisted cancel culture bulls–t when it’s coming from people who have no idea how anything works.”

Former Mets relief pitcher Pedro Feliciano died in his sleep on Sunday night, according to ESPN’s Eduardo Perez.

Feliciano, 45, had a nine-year MLB career, all with the Mets. The left-hander was a native of Rio Pedras, Puerto Rico. He was drafted by the Dodgers in 1995 and floated through systems in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, New York and Japan before landing with the Mets for a third time in 2006.

After making the team out of spring training, Feliciano became a key lefty specialist for the team, leading the majors in games pitched in 2008 with 86. He ranks second in franchise history in games pitched with 459, behind John Franco.

Though Feliciano signed with the Yankees ahead of the 2011 season, shoulder injuries ended his year before it began. He also failed to play for the Yankees in 2012, then re-signed with the Mets in 2013 for what would ultimately be his last big-league season.

The cause of death is unknown as of now. Feliciano was jet-skiing with his family on Sunday, according to Perez.

In 2013, Feliciano said he had a small “hole” in the exterior of his heart, but he was told the situation was not life-threatening.

The legal floodgates are starting to open -- Travis Scott & Live Nation have just been sued by somebody alleging they were injured during Astroworld ... the first claim of what may prove to be many more to come.

A guy named Manuel Souza already lawyered up & reportedly filed suit Saturday in Harris County District Court -- claiming he was hurt during the madness that unfolded & alleging both negligence & gross negligence on behalf of Trav, LN & others he lists as defendants.

In his docs, obtained by Billboard, Souza says the tragedy was "predictable & preventable" -- due, in part, to what he characterizes as warning signs earlier in the day that he says should've been red flags to festival organizers ... but were allegedly ignored.

Souza describes how people first stampeded their way into NRG Park when things were first opening up ... with folks allegedly climbing over security gates & trampling over one another. Despite this, Souza claims nothing was done to further address or curtail things.

He goes on to allege that concert organizers made a conscious effort to let the show go on, despite clear evidence all around them that people were in serious distress & suffering "serious obvious injury." Souza believes they purposely chose this route, claiming they were well aware of the rising risk that was escalating by the minute during the night.

As for why Souza thinks Travis is at fault here ... it's not entirely clear what he's claiming Trav did or didn't do during the show that led to what Souza believes was avoidable. He does cite Travis' history of allegedly encouraging violence among fans at past concerts of his, which Souza says has led to people getting hurt. But beyond that ... it doesn't appear he connects specific dots in this instance as to why TS, specifically, is to blame.

It's also not entirely clear what injuries Souza is claiming were inflected against himself, but he does repeatedly cite the 8 dead & dozens of others who were also hurt ... while going on to claim that profit was chosen over the safety and well-being of concertgoers.

Souza is suing for at least a million dollars in damages.

Video After The Jump

Nine-year-old Parwana dug her heels into the ground as she tried to resist being taken from her family home after she was sold into marriage with a 55-year-old man in northwest Afghanistan last week.

Village & displaced people’s camp leaders say the numbers of young girls getting betrothed started to rise during a 2018 famine & surged this year when the rains failed once more.

Parwana’s family has lived in poverty for years, but life has gotten harder for them since the Taliban takeover of the country earlier this year & as international aid has dried up.

Abdul Malik, Parwana’s father, told CNN ahead of the sale that he was “broken” with guilt & worry, but had no choice as the family is unable to afford food.

Several months ago he sold Parwana’s 12-year-old sister & he already knows the money from the sale of Parwana won’t last long.

Ahead of the sale, Parwana said that she was sold because the family doesn’t have money for food.

“He has sold me to an old man,” said the girl, who had dreamed of becoming a teacher.

On October 24, a man named Qorban paid 200,000 Afghanis (approximately $2,200) & was given Parwana in a ceremony in the displacement camp on the outskirts of Qala-e-Naw, in Afghanistan’s Badghis province.

“[Parwana] was cheap & her father was very poor & he needs money,” Qorban told CNN. “She will be working in my home. I won’t beat her. I will treat her like a family member. I will be kind.”

Child marriage has been practiced in Afghanistan for centuries, but war & climate change-related poverty have driven many families to resort to striking deals earlier & earlier in girls’ lives.

Kylie Jenner echoed the sentiments of her partner, Travis Scott, saying they're heartbroken over the Astroworld tragedy that claimed 8 lives & injured hundreds -- insisting Travis was not aware of the severity of the situation when he was performing as the crowd surged.

Kylie said, "Travis & I are broken and devastated. My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost their lives, were injured or affected in any way by yesterday’s events."

She went on to address criticism that Travis stayed on stage performing for 40 minutes after the tragedy unfolded ... "And also for Travis who I know cares deeply for his fans & the Houston community, I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show & in no world would have continued filming or performing."

Kylie -- who's pregnant with her & Travis' second child -- along with 3-year-old Stormi were at the venue but far away from the crush of people. Kendall Jenner was also with them.

Earlier Travis posted, "I'm honestly just devastated ... We're actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time.

As for Kylie, she ended with words of sympathy ... "I am sending my deepest condolences to all the families during this difficult time & will be praying for the healing of everyone who has been impacted."

Jenner was criticized online for leaving up Instagram stories of the crowd, which appeared to show an ambulance trying to make its way through.

The festival is getting severely criticized for not stopping the concert, despite emergency responders declaring the scene a "mass casualty" event as they tried resuscitating some of the victims.

In one video, a spectator is pleading with a cameraman to end the show, screaming, "People are f***ing dying."

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- As rumors spread about what led to the deaths of 8 people & hundreds of injuries at Friday night's Astroworld Festival, authorities confirmed 1 of the early claims that someone was injecting people with a needle during the deadly event, though it's possible it may have been an isolated incident.

A security guard working the festival was attempting to grab or restrain someone during the melee when he felt a prick on his neck before he lost consciousness, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner.

"When he was examined, he went unconscious," Finner said during a Saturday afternoon briefing. "(Medical staff) administered Narcan. He was revived, and the medical staff did notice a prick that was similar to a prick that you would get if someone was trying to inject."

Finner's comments came as he and other officials cautioned against the rampant speculation about the disaster's cause.

"A lot of narratives are out there right now on social media," Finner said. "I think that all of us need to be respectful of the families & make sure we follow the facts & the evidence."

Finner acknowledged that people were also trampled & investigators were working to obtain video of the festival from LiveNation Entertainment, the event's promoter.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said there were 25 people transported to the hospital & 13 are still hospitalized. A 10-year-old is in critical condition, officials said. There were scores of other injuries. At least 11 suffered cardiac arrest.

The victims who died ranged in age from 14 to 27, Turner said. One person's age was unknown. Turner did not identify those who were killed in the incident. Autopsies will be performed before the victims are released to their families.

Officials who spoke during Saturday's news conference did not confirm causes of death for the 8 victims.

The first night of Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival ended in tragedy.

50,000 fans were packed into NRG Park to see performances by Master P, Don Toliver, Metro Boomin, Lil Baby, SZA and more.

When event organizer and headliner, Travis Scott, hit the stage the crowd surged forward, leaving many fans unable to breathe.

Some passed out and were trampled. A total of eight people were killed, including a 10-year old child, and many more injured.

Paramedics worked to revive unconscious concert goers. Some of whom had gone into cardiac arrest.

According to TMZ, something nefarious may contributed to or been the cause of the tragedy.

"A source connected to Astroworld tells TMZ, someone in the crowd went crazy and began injecting people with some sort of drug, which caused panic and then a surge. The source says authorities are trying to determine if those who went into cardiac arrest were the ones injected. We're told one of those who died is a 10-year-old. The source says it appears to be a targeted attack. We have not confirmed this report, but the source is a key person involved in the festival."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their friends and family.

Rapper Fetty Wap has been released on a $500,000 secured bond following his major drug arrest. The 30-year-old, born William Junior Maxwell II, pleaded not guilty last week to participating in what authorities called a "multimillion-dollar bicoastal drug scheme."

He will be subject to GPS monitoring & random drug tests while on bond. He is also required to surrender his passport while he waits for trial.

Maxwell and five others were charged with "conspiracy to distribute & possess controlled substances, including cocaine, fentanyl & heroin," according to an indictment unsealed last week.

Authorities claim that the group used the U.S. Postal Service & cars with hidden compartments to distribute 100 kilograms of illegal substances, including cocaine, heroin, fentanyl & crack cocaine, from the West Coast to Long Island & New Jersey.

Once the drugs arrived on Long Island, they were allegedly distributed to dealers. Maxwell was accused of being a kilogram-level redistributor for the trafficking organization.

Maxwell is best known for his chart topping hit "Trap Queen," which earned him two Grammy nominations in 2015 & led to two additional hit songs: "My Way" and "679." He was scheduled to perform at Rolling Loud when he was arrested last week at Citi Field in New York City.

"The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist & a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become," Michael Driscoll, assistant director in charge of the FBI's New York field office, said in a statement.

If convicted, Maxwell could face a life sentence.
