When news broke Monday, July 13, that 50 Cent had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it was all people could talk about on social media.
When some see the word "bankrupt" they automatically assume it means you have no money. In the G-Unit business mogul's case, that is far from the truth.
While out promoting the upcoming movie, Southpaw, 50 gave E!Online an exclusive statement on the filing.
"I'm taking the precautions that any other good businessperson would take in this situation. You know when you're successful and stuff, you become a target. I don't wanna be a bulls eye. I don't want anybody to pick me as the guy that they just come to with astronomical claims and go through all that. Walt Disney has filed bankruptcy. Donald Trump has filed bankruptcy. It means you're reorganizing your finances, but it does stop things from moving forward that you don't want moving forward. I gotta decent legal team. You don't have to worry."
The "In Da Club" hit maker's lawyer, William A. Brewer III, also issued a statement.
"This filing for personal bankruptcy protection permits Mr. Jackson to continue his involvement with various business interests and continue his work as an entertainer, while he pursues an orderly reorganization of his financial affairs."
Complex's Lauren Nostro wrote an interesting piece titled "50 Cent Filing for Bankruptcy Does Not Mean He's Broke." You can read the full article here.
In an excerpt from it she spoke "with Robert Gregg, president of Mainline Partners in Brooklyn, to break down exactly how this Chapter 11 filing works to squash any rumors."
Can you explain Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a general sentiment?
In a general sentiment, you usually file a Chapter 11 when your assets are worth more than a certain amount. In this case, 50 would not have been eligible for Chapter 7 or 13 because his debt is more than $390,000 in unsecured debt. He would automatically need to do Chapter 11, and here’s where the protection comes in—so you’ve got debt and a lot of times it’s looked upon negatively, but there can be multiple reasons. One could be, "I’ve got more debt right now than I have income coming in, can we work together a plan of protection to restructure?" Now the protection comes in because once it’s filed there’s a mainstay where typically 90 to 120 days or somewhere thereabouts, you’re putting together and formulating a plan of how you’re going to pay back your creditors. The majority is personal credit, not business. That could be one reason. They’re reporting that his assets in debts each are in the range of $10 million to $50 million so that alone put him in Chapter 11.
Oh yeah, definitely.
And finally, one Twitter user offered his take.
So, there you have it.Follow Me

From heroin to prescription medication, drugs have remained a prevalent issue in the Midwestern city of Chicago, Illinois. Just ask Lil Herb, who has admittedly indulged in lean for years. "I was in it for the taste, for the way it make you feel - all types of s***," the 19-year-old tells us in the clip.
The young Herbert Wright began heavily sipping syrup at just 15-years-old. During the interview, the "I'm Rollin" lyricist recalls spending thousands a week on the habit, which he quit using nearly two months ago. "Two months ago I just paid $1800 for an eight of Actavis [cough syrup]," he remembers. "I ran through it in two days, three max." All in all, Lil Herb claims he's spent someone's salary on the promethazine/codeine medication. "I know I done spent 50,000 on this s***," he says.
Today, the rising Chicago star is strictly "pro-cannabis," and is currently taking courses to receive his high school diploma. "I could've graduated high school if I stuck with it," the former spelling bee champ tells us. Unfortunately for him, Lil Herb began his decline towards middle school, taking to the streets instead of his schoolbooks. "I was in the streets and rapping. I didn't know rap was gonna change my life," he expresses.
Press play to hear more about his upbringing, his past relationship with A$AP Yams, and his thoughts on writing down and freestyling bars in this compelling exclusive.

"I'm fighting for much more than myself. I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can't be intimidated. It's too important."

Businessman can be added to Kurupt's many list of accolades as the rapper showed off his special strains of medicinal marijuana in this VladTV exclusive.
Kurupt explained his brand, "Moon Rock" isn't something he invented himself, but a strain that he's perfected with Dr. Zodiak. The medical cannabis line is only available in legal California dispensaries and in less than a year, his brand has become the most requested product in the business.
The rapper also showed off his strains named, "Girl Scout Cookie" infused with hash oil and "OG Kush," made with the same process.
The demand for his strains have local dispensaries increasing its costs. Find out more about Moon Rock here (http://kuruptsmoonrock.com/)

Tyga's latest CD titled The Gold Album: The 18th Dynasty, didn't perform well when it as released on June 30. The oft-delayed project only sold 2,200 copies it's first week out. By comparison the rapper's previous disc Hotel California sold 54,000 first week and is approaching gold status.
Cash Money Records co-owner, Birdman, believes T-Raww purposely torpedoed the new album's sales by allowing it to be streamed for free on Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube, according to TMZ.
Because of the record's poor performance and what Birdman's believes was a stunt by Tyga to leave Cash Money a dud for his last contractually obligated album, so he could sign outright with Lil Wayne, he's not counting the disc and is refusing to let the "Rack City" rapper out of his contract.
Baby is looking to take Tyga to court if need be to enforce the contract. What doesn't make any sense is that The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty was released independently by Tyga's own label, Last Kings Music. That would seem to make Birdman's claims pointless unless he and the rapper had some other kind of deal under the table.
Tyga explained his side of it all via Twitter on July 1.
We guess a judge will eventually sort this mess out.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Top drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaped through a 1.5-kilometer (1 mile) tunnel that opened into the shower area of his cell, Mexico's top security official announced Sunday.
With the elaborate escape hatch built allegedly without the detection of authorities, Guzman has done what Mexican authorities promised would not happen after his re-capture last year — slipped out of a maximum security prison for the second time.
Eighteen employees from various part of the Altiplano prison 90 kilometers (56 miles) west of Mexico City have been taken in for questioning, Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido said in a news conference Sunday.
A manhunt began immediately late Saturday for the head of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, which has an international reach and is believed to control most of the major crossing points for drugs at the U.S. border with Mexico.
Associated Press journalists near the Altiplano said the roads were being heavily patrolled by Federal Police, who had also set up checkpoints. Flights were also suspended at Toluca airport near the penitentiary in the state of Mexico.
Guzman was last seen about 9 p.m. Saturday in the shower area of the Altiplano prison, according to a statement from the National Security Commission issued early Sunday. After a time, he was lost by the prison's security camera surveillance network. Upon checking his cell, authorities found it empty.
Guzman's escape is an embarrassment to the administration of President Enrique Pena Nieto, which has received plaudits for its aggressive approach to top drug lords. Since the government took office in late 2012, Mexican authorities have nabbed or killed six of them, including Guzman.
Guzman was caught by authorities for the first time in Guatemala in 1993, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison on drug-trafficking related charges. He escaped from Puente Grande, another Mexican maximum-security prison in western Jalisco state, in 2001 with the help of prison guards. The lore says he escaped in a laundry cart, although there have been several versions of how he got away.
He was re-captured in February 2014 after eluding authorities for days across his home state of Sinaloa, for which the cartel is named. He was listed as 56 years old last year, though there are discrepancies in his birth date.

Guzman faces multiple federal drug trafficking indictments in the U.S. as well as Mexico, and was on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's most-wanted list. The U.S. has said it would file an extradition request, though it's not clear if that has already happened.
Former Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam told The AP earlier this year that sending Guzman to the United States would save Mexico a lot of money, but said Mexico would prosecute him at home as a matter of national sovereignty.
He dismissed concerns that Guzman could escape a second time. That risk "does not exist," Murillo Karam said.
During his first stint as a fugitive, Guzman transformed himself from a middling Mexican capo into arguably the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. His fortune grew to be estimated at more than $1 billion, according to Forbes magazine, which listed him among the "World's Most Powerful People" and ranked him above the presidents of France and Venezuela.
Guzman has long been known for his ability to pay off local residents and even authorities, who would tip him off to security operations launched for his capture. He finally was tracked down to a modest beachside high-rise in the Pacific Coast resort city of Mazatlan on Feb. 22, 2014, where he had been hiding with his wife and twin daughters. He was taken in the early morning without a shot fired.
But before they reached him, security forces went on a several-day chase through Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa state. They found houses where Guzman supposedly had been staying with steel-enforced doors and elaborate tunnels that allowed him to escape through the sewer system.
Even with his 2014 capture, Guzman's Sinaloa Cartel empire continues to stretch throughout North America and reaches as far away as Europe and Australia. The cartel has been heavily involved in the bloody drug war that has torn through parts of Mexico for the last decade, taking at least an estimated 100,000 lives.
Altiplano, which is considered the main and most secure of Mexico's federal prisons, also houses Zetas drug cartel leader Miguel Angel Trevino, and Edgar Valdes Villarreal, known as "La Barbie," of the Beltran Leyva cartel.
