The first of what could be several lawsuits filed in the wake of Wednesday's shootings at New York City's Irving Plaza is on the way.

26-year old model Maggie Carrie Heckstall, who was shot in the knee, has hired The Blanch Law Firm of Manhattan, according to the New York Daily News.

“We expect to be filing a claim against all responsible parties. She will be undergoing surgery to remove the bullet from her knee," read a statement from the firm.

Despite the fact that T.I. was not involved in the unfortunate shooting that occurred during his concert at Irving Plaza in New York City on Wednesday, May 25, promoters have pulled the plug on one of his scheduled appearances.

The Atlanta rapper was going to perform for graduating high school students in South Florida on June 11, but after news of the shooting broke the promoter fired off a letter letting him know he was no longer wanted, according to TMZ.

"The quality of the Talents services is not satisfactory to our Client." The letter read, in addition to "The event was marketed 'as a safe environment for the students.'"

A story circulating in the media has suggested that a beef between Troy Ave and fellow Brooklyn rapper Maino led to an altercation between their camps at Irvine Plaza, Wednesday, May 25, that resulted in a deadly shooting.

Maino has issued a statement via his Instagram account denying the story. He maintains that he and Troy are friends with no history of beef between them.

12352152252?profile=original

"First and foremost my deepest condolences to the family & friends of Ronald Mcphatter who was tragically killed last night. Despite having to cope with more senseless violence. I woke up to the usual FALSE and ridiculous lies being circulated by irresponsible members of the media," Maino wrote. "What transpired was absolutely NOT the result of MYSELF or ANYBODY IN MY CAMP , ENTOURAGE, TRAVELING PARTY or ORGANIZATION IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. We entered the venue respectfully as always and exited in shocked like all other concertgoers."

"For the last 5 years Troy Ave, his team and I have had a great working relationship. Not only have we performed and done several songs together but we've had many personal conversations about life our goals and efforts as musicians," he continued. "Despite media reports to the contrary, there are No "ongoing beefs" or "entourage issues." It always has been and always will be good relations between myself AND MY TEAM and @TroyAve @Hovain @YoungLitoBsB and the BSB crew. Our deepest sympathies again to family of Ronald McPhatter and a speedy recovery to Troy Ave. The movement will not be stopped. #BROOKLYNUNITED #HEARDYOU."

12352151693?profile=original

Both Maino and Troy were at the venue to perform prior to the concert's headliner T.I. taking the stage.

The shooting that left Troy's longtime friend, Ronald McPhatter, 33, dead and three others wounded, including Troy, happened backstage at the show.

Troy has been charged with attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon after video was released that allegedly shows him firing a gun inside the club. Police say he could face additional charges, depending on the results of ballistics tests.

T.I. sent his condolences to McPhatter's family and to those injured in the shooting.

Video After The Jump

UNION SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) --Rapper Troy Ave has been arrested after four people -- including himself -- were shot in a third-floor green room at the venue Irving Plaza Wednesday night, May 25, before a T.I. performance.

Troy Ave, 30, whose real name is Roland Collins, was also injured in the shooting. NYPD officials released new very clear video late Thursday they said shows Troy Ave firing at least one shot inside the venue.

12352151693?profile=original

He is being charged with attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Police tell Eyewitness News he could face additional charges, depending on the results of ballistics tests.

Police aren't sure if there was more than one shooter in the ordeal. The ballistics evidence will tell them that as well. They released the video because they are trying to identify the people in the video who were in the room when the shooting happened.

The NYPD said Troy Ave shot himself in the leg during a struggle at the club. After the shooting, they said he left and was driven to NYU Hospital. He was then transferred to Bellevue, where he was arrested.

One man died from his injuries in the shooting.

DETAILS ABOUT SHOOTING
At 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, the rapper T.I. was about to take the stage at the ballroom-style music venue when the shooting began in the green room, which is upstairs. Rappers Maino and Uncle Murda were performing, and officials said Thursday that the incident began as a fistfight, then after a few minutes turned into a gunfight.

The gunman and the victims were all credentialed guests with access to the VIP/green room area. There does not appear to have been any screening at the VIP area, which was filled with performers, their entourages and guests. According to police, most of the people involved are from Brooklyn and have prior records.

There were about 950 people in the concert building at 17 Irving Place during the shooting.

THE VICTIMS
Police initially said Troy Ave was the first person shot.

Ronald McPhatter, 33, was shot in the stomach and pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital.

His mother, Rose, told Eyewitness News that her son took a bullet to save a friend.

"Right now I probably am trying to figure out what happened and why. You know, I want answers," she said.

She said Edgar and Troy Ave were longtime friends.

"My son jumped in to assist Troy," she said. "He was very protective. He was very protective of his family."

One man, who was not involved in the fight, was shot downstairs by a bullet that went through the floor. He was hit in the abdomen, and is likely to recover, said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

A 26-year-old woman also was shot in the leg while in the green room and was taken to Bellevue in stable condition.

052616-wabc-irving-plaza-shooting-scene2-img.jpg

THE INVESTIGATION
The shooting is not believed to be connected to rapper TI, who left the green room before the shots were fired. But an appearance scheduled for later in the night at another club, 1 Oak, was canceled and police closed the club for a period.

There were metal detectors for concert-goers at Irving Plaza.

Detectives know who was in the green room and were working to interview everyone there at the time of the shooting.

Five 9 mm casings were recovered from the scene, Boyce said. were recovered from the green room area, indicating a 9 mm handgun was used.

Rapper T.I. posted a message on social media late Thursday:

Video After The Jump

WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor University's board of regents said Thursday that it will fire football coach Art Briles and re-assign university President Kenneth Starr amid questions over the school's handling of sexual assault complaints against players.

The nation's largest Baptist university said in a statement Thursday that it had suspended Briles "with intent to terminate." Starr will leave the position of president on May 31, but the school says he will serve as chancellor.

The university also placed athletic director Ian McCaw on probation.

Baylor asked a law firm last year to conduct a review of its handling of sexual assault cases following allegations that the football program mishandled several cases of players attacking women.

Art Briles

The university's statement said the review revealed "a fundamental failure."

Baylor has faced increasing criticism in recent months for its handling of reports of rape and other violent incidents involving football players and students. One victim has sued the university, saying it was deliberately indifferent to her allegations against a former player who was eventually convicted of sexually assaulting her.

Starr ordered an investigation last year but has been mostly silent amid mounting criticism over the school's handling of the complaints, which erupted under his leadership. He took over as the university's president in 2010, about a decade after the former prosecutor investigated former President Clinton's sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewisnky.

460x.jpg

Ken Starr

The football team, whose players were at the center of the upheaval, enjoyed unprecedented success under Briles' tenure, including two Big 12 championships in the last three years. That success brought a financial windfall, and in 2014, Baylor opened a new, $250-million on-campus football stadium. But Briles' program has also been criticized for recruiting or accepting transfer players without regard to the harm they might cause fellow students.

Starr rode the waves of the program's success, and often ran on the football field with Baylor students in pregame ceremonies. But as investigations began into the school's handling of sexual assault allegations against players, Starr provided only brief comments, even as criticism of the school mounted.

In a February statement issued by university, Starr said "our hearts break for those whose lives are impacted by execrable acts of sexual violence." And at a prayer breakfast last month, Starr told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: "I am in favor of transparency. Stand up, take your medicine if you made a mistake."

Baylor's Board of Regents was recently briefed by a law firm hired to investigate how the school responded to assault incidents, and the school on Thursday released a summary of its findings. Starr initiated the review in 2015, after former football player Sam Ukwuachu was convicted of sexually assaulting a female soccer player.

Ukwuachu, who was convicted in 2015, transferred to Baylor after he was dismissed from Boise State. Ukwuachu's former girlfriend testified during his rape trial in Texas that he had struck and choked her when he attended Boise State.

Ukwuachu's former coach, Chris Peterson, now the coach at Washington, said he "thoroughly apprised" Briles about the circumstances of Ukuwachu's dismissal. Briles disputed that account, saying he talked with Peterson and there was no mention of the incident.

The school is also facing a federal lawsuit from a former student claiming the school was "deliberately indifferent" to rape allegations levied at a former football player Tevin Elliott, who was convicted in 2014 of sexually assaulting the woman.

The uproar following Ukwuachu's conviction caused Baylor to initiate the review by the Philadelphia law firm Pepper Hamilton, and to announce a $5 million effort to improve efforts on how it responds to sexual assault, including adding another investigator and more staff.

But the Ukwuachu case was just the start of months of revelations of football players being involved in violent incidents with little or no repercussions. At least seven other woman have publicly come forward to say the school ignored their sexual assault allegations.

Video After The Jump

TMZ has obtained footage of the chaos backstage at Irving Plaza in New York City as shots are being fired during T.I.'s concert Wednesday, May 25.

People scramble for safety as the gunman, who cannot be seen in the video, slowly fires 5 shots from what ABC 7 reports was a 9 mm handgun.

As we previously reported, 4 people were hit with bullets during the shooting.

Troy Ave was shot in the leg, but is expected to recover. A 26-year old woman was also shot in the leg. She is in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.

12352158080?profile=original

A 34-year old man is in stable condition at Bellevue with a chest wound. The fourth victim, a 33-year old man, died at Beth Israel Hospital from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Everyone backstage, including the gunman, had credentials to be there.

12352158855?profile=original

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton blamed the violence on "gangster rap."

"The crazy world of these so-called rap artists basically celebrates the violence," said Bratton Thursday morning on WCBS AM. "Unfortunately, that violence sometimes manifests itself in their performances and that's exactly what happened last evening. The backgrounds of some of these people, unfortunately the lifestyles they led or had, follows them into the entertainment world. No question a lot of talented artists, enjoy the music. Music all too often celebrates violence, degradation of women and the drug culture. It's unfortunate that some of them, as they get fame and fortune, cannot get out of the life."

According to ABC 7, Bratton added that NYPD detectives "have a pretty good idea of what happened" and should be able to "wrap this up very quickly."
