Video After The Jump

Rappers Dark Lo and AR-Ab sat down with VladTV to talk about Lo's Darkaveli double disk filled with 28 tracks, how they banded, what it took for AR to hear him out, and why there isn't any real gang life in Philadelphia, and it's essentially every man for himself.

While violence is something not to be glorified, Dark Lo says that he noticed it was common once he watched Boyz in the Hood as a child. However, it wasn't until he turned 9 when he witnessed one kid get brutally beaten by other boys in the neighborhood. Unlike Chicago and their gang culture, Lo says that gangs are nonexistent, but they do have sections or "blocks" that retaliate against one another. "In Philly it's blocks." Lo said, "In Philly, it's basically every man for theyself, but if you from 23rd street, we'll still kill each other, but you can't come kill us, [we're] 23rd street."

While facing many adversities, Dark Lo ended up in prison, and once he got out, he heard about AR-Ab's buzz and gravitated to his lyrical skills. After they met up, which AR says was typically doing "street s***," he says Lo revealed that he rapped, but AR made sure he approached him with a CD versus a hot 16 on the spot. "He comes and we making a drug deal, and he says 'you know I rap.'" AR says he responded, "'I ain't tryna hear that s***, you don't rap, man.'" He joked, "I'm looking like he had a beard, looking like a gangsta...I said bring some CDs; I don't want to hear you rap."

Fortunately, once AR got the CD, he and his team liked what they heard, and the rest was history. Further into the interview, Dark Lo talks about feeding the streets with Darkaveli and AR-Ab explains why he rather stay cordial with Meek Mill than have each other shoot at one another.

Gucci Mane & Young Thug Cover XXL (Pics)

12352375494?profile=original

Ask almost anyone in the music industry and they will tell you that Gucci Mane's ear for talent is impeccable. Atlanta is filled with artists that he either discovered or played a part in their development.

One such artist is Young Thug, who at one point was signed to Big Guwop's 1017 Brick Squad imprint.

The two remain close and XXL honored the pair by putting them on the cover of their Fall issue, appropriately titled "The Protégé and the Professor."

For the new issue, the two artists both sat with XXL to talk about their journeys to stardom—including some of the bumps they have hit along the way—their history with each other, thoughts on the current hip-hop landscape and personal focuses for the future. Gucci, who has been somewhat absent from hip-hop for the past three-plus years, due to a federal prison bid, also discusses his life before the jail sentence and what he had to do to change himself and succeed when he got out. Thug, who has found comfort in the world of fashion, also talks about how that fits in his budding career and what it means for himself and hip-hop.

The issue hits newsstands in October.

Freddie Gibbs is a free man after being found not guilty on charges that he raped a 17-year old fan following a concert 2015 concert in Austria.

The Daily Mail reports that Gibbs, born Fredrick Tipton, was acquitted in the Vienna regional court on Friday, May 30.

The accuser in the case claimed the 34-year old rapper took her and a 16-year old friend to his Vienna hotel on July 4, 2015. She said they both were drunk and possibly had their drinks spiked.

Following the alleged incident, the 17-year old reportedly started having flashbacks to the night in question and remembered having sex with Gibbs when she was too intoxicated to resist.

As we previously reported, Gibbs was originally picked up by French authorities on a European arrest warrant out of Austria on June 2, 2016. Gibbs was in France to perform at.the Rex in Toulouse at the time.

He was extradited to Austria in July to await trial.

Gibbs and his lawyers had maintained his innocence in the case. The court sided with with him.

Had he been convicted, Gibbs could have been sentenced to a maximum of 10-year prison.
