Jay Z and Solange Knowles are ready to put their embarrassing fight and the rumors that have followed behind them. The two released a joint statement today via the Associated Press. Details of what led to Solange attacking her brother-in-law were understandably kept private.
"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family. The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false," the statement continued. "At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

Footage of the incident was released on Monday, May 12. by TMZ. Since then media and fans around the world have speculated as to why it happened. We may never know and perhaps it's better that way, but the release of this statement signifies that all parties involved felt compelled to address it.
Jay is known to be a very private person and has rarely commented publicly on situations involving his family.
The Standard Hotel has fired the person who sold the surveillance video to TMZ for $250,000.

Aaron Hernandez has been indicted for the 2012 double murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.
Prosecutors allege that the former New England Patriots star and Alexander Bradley had a chance encounter with Abreu and Furtado at Cure nightclub and was later involved in a drive-by shooting that killed both men.
Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado
Surveillance footage shows Hernandez and Bradley entering the club on July 16, 2012, shortly after the victims went inside. Hernandez reportedly had a couple of drinks and left the club with Bradley 10 minutes later.
The victims left the club shortly after 2 a.m. Henandez's Toyota 4Runner is seen passing by the men twice as they walked to their car.
After leaving the club parking lot, Abreu and Furtado were followed by Hernandez, who caught up with them at a red light. The shooting was not caught on tape, but a third man, Aquilino Freire, who was also shot while in the victim's car but survived, told police "he saw someone in the SUV's back seat laughing. Then, several gunshots were fired from the rear passenger seat into the car."
Another witness told police that the shooter was a light skinned Hispanic male with short hair. Prosecutors say it was Hernandez who fired the the shots. If the allegations are proven to be true it would mean that Hernandez played a full season in the NFL following the murders.
Despite previous reports to the contrary, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley, announced on Thursday, May 15, that neither Abreu or Furtado had gang ties. Hernandez is said to belong to the Bristol Bloods street gang in Connecticut.
Hernandez is already being held without bail for the the June 17, 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.
Odin Lloyd
Lloyd died from multiple gunshot wounds. Lalate reports that prosecutors are going to claim that Lloyd was killed because he knew about Hernandez's involvement in the 2012 double homicide.

A possible reason for the Solange Knowles and Jay Z altercation has emerged.
As we previously reported, Solange and Dame Dash's ex-wife Rachel Roy argued at the Boom Boom Room in New York City prior to Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator at the Standard Hotel on Monday May 5.
The New York Daily News is now reporting that the incidents were connected.
Rachel Roy and Solange
According to the report, Rachel and Jay got too close at the Boom Boom Room, angering both Solange and her sister Beyonce.
“Rachel is a little too close to Jay Z,” a source told The News. “Solange doesn’t like it, and Beyoncé doesn’t like it.”
Solange told Roy that she wasn't going to let her sister be disrespected like that. Telling her that. “anyone who gets close to Jay has to be warned and deal with her as a sister.”
Jay and Beyonce stepped in before things got more heated. Hov reportedly told Solange that she was "out of line."
Fast forward to the Met Gala after party at the Standard Hotel later that evening. As the event winded down the Knowles sisters were ready to go home, but Jay decided he would go to Rihanna's after party at club Up & Down.
Solange believed that Roy would also be at Riri's party. That set her off and resulted in the attack on the Roc Nation CEO in the Standard Hotel's elevator.
The day after the fight video was released Dame posted a photo with Solange in it on his Instagram account. The caption seemed to be a not so subtle jab at Jay. It read: "Forgot about this one @ava_dash @atrak and solange ...I am actually impressed with her independent spirit... She seems like a fighter #festivallife."
In March 2009 Roy filed for divorce from Dash. In September of that same year Jay took a shot at his former Roc-A-Fella records business partner on the song "Thank You" with the line, "Lucky Lefty, kiss the wife goodnight for me."
Beanie Sigel addressed the diss during a 2009 interview on Power 99 with 50 Cent.
You took everything from him already. You took the clothing line. You took the record label. You took everything. He has nothing. Now he’s going through financial difficulties and gets divorced and then you feel that comfortable in a record to say, ‘Lucky Lefty, by the way kiss the wife good night for me.’ You already killed the man, he’s dead already. Now you gonna stand over top of him and urinate on him and stomp him.

Days before TMZ released the fight footage Beyonce posted a prayer on her Instagram account asking God for help in making the right choices.
What are your thoughts on all of this?

The person who recorded, then leaked footage of Solange Knowles attacking her brother-in-law Jay Z has been fired from their job.
The Associated Press reports that the Standard Hotel in New York City terminated the employee on Wednesday, May 14, for "breaching the security polices of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video."
Hotel reps say they were "shocked and disappointed" by the security breach. They plan to turn over "all available information to criminal authorities."
The elevator fight has been seen by millions since TMZ first aired it on Monday, May 12. The website reportedly paid $250,000 for the footage, according to Page Six.
