ATLANTA (Associated Press) — With a picture of his mother on a large screen behind him, Doug E Fresh struggled to complete his sentence. The rapper dubbed "The Human Beat Box" choked up and shed tears as he received the "I Am Hip-Hop Award" at the ninth BET Hip-Hop Awards on Saturday.

Fresh eventually told the crowd that his mother, who had Alzheimer's disease, died five months ago.

Doug E. Fresh

"I have to acknowledge her," Fresh said at the taped award show at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. "I want to thank this woman and hip-hop. If it wasn't for hip-hop, I don't know where I would be."

He also thanked those who helped him throughout his career, from Slick Rick to his group the Get Fresh Crew.

The show airs Oct. 14.

Fresh became known for imitating drums and creating special effects using his mouth and a microphone. After his speech, Fresh performed one of his hits, "La Di Da Di" with the show's host, Snoop Dogg.

"He's the definition of moving the crowd," Ludcaris said during a video that paid homage to Fresh.

DJ Mustard won Producer of the Year, and Future's song "Move That Dope" took home Best Club Banger award. The most applause came after a recorded freestyle featuring Kanye West, Common, Big Sean and Pusha T.

Many of the other awards will be announced at a later date. Rapper Drake received the most nominations with eight. Jay Z, Pharrell and Future each scored six nominations.

The parents of Mike Brown, an unarmed young black man who was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, stood on stage with Common after he finished his songs with Jay Electronica. There was moment of silence and the crowd raised both their hands in remembrance of Brown.

Snoop Dogg showed charisma throughout the night and performed skits featuring Nia Long. He also brought back his YouTube network called GGN (Double G News), interviewing rapper French Montana and Mimi Faust of Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta.

Singer Brandy performed "I Wanna Be Down" with guest appearances from Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Yo-Yo. Rapper T.I. took the stage with Young Thug, performing "About the Money."

There appears to be no end in sight for female celebrities who have had private photos and videos leaked onto the internet.

On August 31, 2014 countless nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Kaley Cuoco, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Upton, McKayla Maroney and many others were distributed when their iCloud accounts were hacked. The event was dubbed "The Fappening" by the internet.

12351095276?profile=original

On Saturday, September 20, the leaks continued. In addition to more compromising photos and videos of Lawrence being released, other high profile celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Hayden Panettiere, Hope Solo, Vanessa Hudgens and Avril Lavigne were victimized.

At this point it's not known if the new photos are the work of the same hacker. I would imagine there will be more to come and unfortunately there doesn't appear to be much those who have been compromised can do about it.

From the NBA courts to the courtroom. That's how things have turned out for Rex Chapman. He was arrested Friday, September 19, in Scottsdale, Arizona for swiping $14,000 worth of merchandise from an Apple computer store, then pawning them.

Chapman was a former University of Kentucky star who got drafted in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets in 1988. He averaged 14,6 points per game over his 12-year career, which included stops in Washington, Miami and Pheonix.

Police say Chapman had previously stolen from the Apple store seven times. He used the store's self checkout system, but never paid for the items.

The 46-year old has been charged with nine counts of organized retail theft and five counts of trafficking in stolen property.

Video After The Jump

Written by Pete Combs for WSBRadio

She was young, beautiful and tragically killed by her daughter’s father early Sunday morning. Now, Jessica Arrendale, 33, is being hailed by her family as a hero for saving her six-month old daughter’s life, even as she died from a bullet to the head.

Jessica’s mother, Teresa Inniello, spoke exclusively with WSB’s Pete Combs Wednesday night, telling him the sad details of her daughter’s death and the miraculous survival of her granddaughter, Colbie.

It began Saturday night when Jessica and Colbie’s father, 30-year old Antoine Davis, went out for the evening. At some point, Ionniello said, Davis, a former Marine who served in Iraq, became belligerently drunk and abusive. It had happened many times, Ionniello said, but her daughter did not seem able to turn Davis away no matter how often he abused her.

12351100272?profile=original

Antoine Davis

Davis chased Arrendale up the stairs of her three-story townhome in the Oakdale Bluffs subdivision sometime around midnight, she said.

Arrendale tried to defend herself with a baseball bat, but she was overpowered by the former serviceman, who struck her several times with the bat, Ionniello said.

Arrendale had the six-month old child in her arms. Little Colbie may have been hit in the head by the baseball bat, according to her grandmother. The child has a traumatic head injury.

12351100675?profile=original

Arrendale locked herself in a bathroom. Davis got his gun, an assault rifle outfitted with a suppressor. He burst into the bathroom and, while Arrendale was still holding Colbie in her arms, shot the young mother in the head, Ionniello said.

“He shot her and they (police) don’t know how she was able to twist her body and fall literally in the opposite direction,” Ionniello said. Instead of falling onto the floor, Ionniello said her daughter fell over the toilet, dropping little Colbie into the water-filled bowl.

“She had pure will,” Ionniello said. “She wanted that baby to live.”

Colbie’s grandmother believes Davis intended to kill both mother and child, but unable to see the child inside the toilet bowl, covered by Arrendale’s body, he left the bathroom, walked into the baby’s room and shot himself.

12351100295?profile=original

“She was the hero,” Ionniello said, “because her last breath was saving the child.”

Smyrna police, unable to contact anyone inside the townhouse, were reluctant to rush the house, concerned their actions might spark violence. They did not know Arrendale and Davis were already dead. They sent in a robot, but the machine could not negotiate the stairs in the three-story building, Ionniello said.

The baby remained in the toilet, covered by her mother’s body, for 13-hours before officers finally stormed the townhouse and rescued her. She was cradled in the arms of an officer who rushed her outside to a waiting ambulance.

Colbie is still being treated at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital. Ionniello hopes to bring her home soon, where she already cares for Jessica’s 15-year old daughter.

Friends have set up a fund to help offset the expense of Jessica’s funeral and to aid in the education of her two children. Already, the fund has raised almost $8,000.
