A Port Orange man was sentenced to two years in prison for not informing his sexual partners that he was HIV positive.
Gentry Burns pleaded no contest to one count of uninformed HIV-infected sexual intercourse Thursday morning.
Under Florida law, it’s illegal for anyone who knows they have any of several sexually transmitted diseases to have sex with another person without informing them of their status.
Officials initially charged Burns with three felonies, but prosecutors dropped the other two counts.
An ex-girlfriend initially reported Burns to authorities in October 2019 for having sex with women without telling them about his HIV status.
The report came in the same year Orlando ranked No. 2 for most new HIV cases among major cities in the United States.

HOUSTON (ESPN) -- The Houston Texans, after initially insisting they would not trade Deshaun Watson, shifted their stance on the quarterback's trade availability earlier this offseason & have been willing to field offers from interested teams.
The Texans already have had preliminary discussions with other teams about Watson, who reported to training camp Sunday, but don't feel they have received a serious offer.
Although the talks have not reached a significant stage as of Monday morning, the Texans are willing to trade Watson before the start of the season if they find the right match.
The Texans' price for Watson has been a combination of five high draft picks & starting-caliber players, two league executives told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Although Watson reported to training camp Sunday morning, he made it clear to those in the building that his desire to be traded had not changed, a source said. Had Watson not reported to camp, he would have been fined $50,000 per day.
Watson's personal QB coach, Quincy Avery, told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday that he expected Watson to be traded soon after reporting to camp.
"I'm 100% sure he'll be traded at some point in the coming future," Avery said on The Adam Schefter Podcast. "I think the Texans have made the decision to move on. He doesn't want to be there, they're ready to move on; all they're waiting for is fair market value for him, and they'll get a lot."
This comes after an offseason during which Watson first asked to be traded in January after the team hired Nick Caserio as their general manager. Less than two months later, the first of 23 civil lawsuits was filed against Watson. The now-22 active lawsuits allege sexual assault and inappropriate behavior against the Texans quarterback.
The Texans' first training camp practice is Monday at 10 a.m. ET.
FORT WORTH, Texas (Fox4) - A group of people in Fort Worth stoned a gunman to death after a shooting killed one and injured two others.
Just before 1 a.m. Monday, investigators say the man started firing at a crowd in Fort Worth's Como neighborhood on the southwest side near Bryant Irvin Road and the Chisholm Trail Parkway.
One person died in the shooting and two others were hurt, but are expected to survive.
The crowd then started throwing gardening stones and killed the gunman.
It's not clear what exactly led up to the shooting. Police have only said it started with some kind of disturbance.
Police also say the people involved all knew each other. At this point no names have been released of those involved in the incident.
HOUSTON (AP) — An armed suspect stole an ambulance early Friday while a patient and a firefighter were inside, Houston police said.
The suspect is accused of running the ambulance off the road, the department said in a series of tweets. Then, a firefighter behind the wheel was forced out of the ambulance at gunpoint and left on the side of the road.
A patient and another firefighter were in the back of the vehicle.
Authorities said they used a GPS to track down the ambulance. The armed suspect was taken into custody without incident, police said.
He's been given a $1,550,000 bond, a judge announced during court Friday night.
Brandon Warren, 43, who did not appear for his court appearance due to a mental health evaluation, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, and felony evading arrest.
Court records revealed Warren admitted to stealing a Houston Fire Department ambulance at gunpoint and kidnapping an EMT and patient inside because he was trying to get the police's attention.
Warren allegedly told police he was being chased by some people from Louisiana and he took the ambulance because law enforcement was not giving him the attention he needed, according to court records.
ZACHARY, La. (WBRZ) - Police said a father was shot and killed after he confronted a teenager who snuck into his home to see his daughter Sunday morning.
Police Chief David McDavid said the shooting happened around 8 a.m. at a house on Hayfield Drive. Police initially described the incident as a reported break-in but said Monday, the teenage suspect was there to see an underage girl.
Dezmon Hamilton, 34, the girl's father and homeowner, died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner's office. The suspect, identified by police as 17-year-old Nicholas Mcquirter, was also wounded in the encounter and taken to a hospital.
McDavid said officers believe the teen climbed a ladder and entered the home through a second-story window. A confrontation unfolded after Hamilton found Mcquirter in his home. The two shot one another during the encounter, according to police.
McDavid said Monday, the suspect was at the home to see the victim's 14-year-old daughter.
Both were armed, police said, and it's still unclear who fired the first shot.
The teen will be booked on charges of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.

Federal prosecutors in New York on Friday detailed a string of new accusations of sexual assault and bribery against R. Kelly going back 30 years, including how the disgraced R&B singer allegedly abused a teenage boy in 2006.
In a lengthy court filing, the prosecutors asked a judge for permission to admit what they said was evidence of the sickening allegations — for which Kelly has not been charged — at his upcoming sex-trafficking trial in Brooklyn.
The uncharged acts are “directly relevant to and inextricably intertwined with the evidence of the charged crimes,” the prosecutors argued in the motion.
The filing alleges that in 2006, Kelly sexually abused a 17-year-old boy, named only as John Doe #1, after meeting him at a McDonalds in Chicago and asking “what he was willing to do to succeed in the music business.”
According to the court docs, the boy introduced Kelly to a close male pal who was 16 or 17. Several years later, Kelly allegedly started a sexual relationship with that person, John Doe #2, and forced several of his girlfriends at the time to have sex with the young man while he filmed.
The documents also describe how a “crisis manager” for Kelly allegedly bribed a Cook County, Illinois, clerk with $2,500 to get inside information on the singer’s legal troubles after the Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly” came out in early 2019.
Prosecutors also want to introduce evidence that Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, allegedly sexually abused the singer Aaliyah Haughton and married her in 1994 when she was 15 so that she couldn’t be forced to testify against him, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. She died in a plane crash in 2001.
Other allegations contained in the filing include unlawful imprisonment, hush money payments, threats and psychological abuse.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man will serve life in prison without parole for the 2018 slayings of his girlfriend & their young special-needs daughter, a judge ruled Friday.
The sentence for Ronnie Oneal III was a foregone conclusion when a jury opted in June not to recommend the death penalty. Oneal, 32, was convicted of murder, attempted murder, arson & aggravated child abuse.
Trial testimony showed he shot and beat to death his girlfriend, Kenyatta Barron, & used a hatchet to kill their 9-year-old daughter, who suffered from autism & cerebral palsy. The testimony showed Oneal also stabbed & wounded his son, then 8, & set fire to the family home.
The judge said she had rarely encountered such a horrible case, according to media reports.
“Nineteen years I’ve been in this job,” Sisco said. “I’ve seen human beings killed by the hands of others in every way imaginable. This is the worst case I have ever seen. I know I will be haunted for the rest of my life.”
Oneal, who represented himself during much of the trial and frequently yelled at the jury, spoke at length at the sentencing hearing. He had contended he acted in self-defense & underwent a psychiatric evaluation that declared him mentally fit for trial.
“At first I want to say I’m not sorry for the things I didn’t do, and I’m not sorry for the things I did do,” Oneal said, turning to Barron family members. “But I will say I’m sorry for your loss.”
Barron’s mother, Carrie Lloyd, was unsparing in her comments in court.
“I wish you would have gotten the death penalty,” Lloyd said. “Every action has a reaction, and the reaction to your actions is going to be sitting in your prison cell for the rest of your life with your thoughts.”
MIAMI (AP) — Miami has dismissed second-year freshman safety Avantae Williams from the football program after his arrest on battery charges.
The school issued a statement Thursday on Williams’ dismissal. That came hours after announcing he was suspended from all team activities.
Williams was arrested Wednesday night on three counts of aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, according to Miami-Dade County arrest records. He was booked into an area jail on a $10,000 bond.
According to a police report obtained by The Miami Herald, Williams’ arrest followed an argument with his child’s mother, who is also pregnant with his baby. The two had been living together.
After an argument about whether Williams was involved with someone else, Williams left and allegedly told her she should leave. When he returned, she was still there packing belongings, according to the report.
Williams allegedly grabbed the woman by her hair and threw her on a bed and then threw her out of the home, according to the report. After a neighbor called 911, paramedics took her to a hospital and noted “multiple bruises to her arms,” a minor bruise on her neck and two broken fingernails.
The report stated Williams didn’t talk to police. It was unknown if he has an attorney..
Williams, from DeLand, Florida, was ranked as the No. 1 safety in the 2020 recruiting class but didn’t play last season.
