MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Fox13) - Controversy and a family's outrage has emerged in Indianola, Miss., after an 11-year-old was shot by a police officer after he called 911 for help in domestic incident at home.

The shooting happened Saturday morning, May 20th.

Aderrien Murry is recovering in a Jackson hospital, his family says.

The boy's mother, Nakala Murry, told officers that when the father of one of her children returned home about 4 a.m., he was upset.

She told Aderrien to call the police.

He called 911, and when the officer made the scene, he "had his gun drawn at the front door and asked those in side the home to come out of the house," she told reporters.

The boy was shot inside the home in the hallway.

No action has been taken by the department to the officer. The Miss. Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.

Body camera footage has not been release by the police.

The family is demanding that charges be made against the officer and he should be fired from his job.

CNN — Tina Turner, the dynamic rock & soul singer who rose from humble beginnings & overcame a notoriously abusive marriage to become one of the most popular female artists of all time, has died, according to a post on her verified Facebook page. She was 83.

A riveting live performer, Turner had a string of R&B hits in the 1960s & early ’70s with her domineering and violent husband Ike Turner before she left him – fleeing their Dallas hotel room with 36 cents.

Her solo career floundered for years before she mounted a stunning comeback in 1984 with her multiplatinum album “Private Dancer” & its No. 1 hit, “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”

Before long Turner was a global superstar, commanding MTV with her spiky wigs, short skirts & famously long legs strutting across concert stages in three-inch heels.

Her talent earned her acclaim as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” while her resiliency made her a hero to battered women everywhere. When she sang of pain & heartache in her husky, full-throated voice, every word rang true.

“For a long time I felt like I was stuck, with no way out of the unhealthy situation I was in,” she told Harvard Business Review in 2021. “But then I had a series of encounters with different people who encouraged me … And once I could see myself clearly, I began to change, opening the way to confidence and courage. It took a few years, but finally I was able to stand up for my life and start anew.”

Rapper Fetty Wap was sentenced to 6 years in prison Wednesday for operating a large scale drug conspiracy that sold kilos of cocaine in New Jersey.

Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, pleaded guilty in August to a conspiracy drug charge, which carries a mandatory 6-year prison sentence, admitting that he participated in a massive drug trafficking racket that moved drugs from the West Coast to Long Island.

During Wednesday's sentencing, Maxwell apologized, saying: "I hurt my community, people who look up to me. My family & myself. I am truly sorry for any pain I caused."

Judge Joanna Seybert, who presided over the sentencing had strong words for the rapper.

“Despite your background & all you overcame, you threw it all away," Seybert said.

Initially, Maxwell's plea during the summer in Central Islip came before U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Locke, who had revoked his bond & sent him to jail 2 weeks ago. After the plea, he was returned to jail to await sentencing.

Locke revoked the rapper’s $500,000 bail, secured by property he owns in Georgia, after prosecutors said that Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, threatened to kill a man during a FaceTime call in 2021, violating the terms of his pretrial release in his drug case.

The “Trap Queen” rapper was initially arrested in October 2021 on charges alleging he participated in a conspiracy to smuggle large amounts of heroin, fentanyl & other drugs into the New York City area.

Maxwell & 5 co-defendants were accused of conspiring to possess & distribute more than 100 kilograms of heroin, fentanyl & crack cocaine between June 2019 & June 2020. 2 co-defendants also have pleaded guilty & await sentencing.

tripp-seeto-rapper-cover.jpg

Las Vegas, Nevada — May 19, 2023 – Rapper and internet personality Robbie Tripp has released his collaboration with viral freestyle rapper Lil Seeto with a single and official music video titled “Money Honey”. The official music video premiered simultaneously with the single’s global release on Spotify and Apple Music, and was shared across Tripp’s social media platforms. With over 2 million TikTok followers alone between Tripp and Lil Seeto, reactions to the official music video quickly earned coverage from major West Coast rap blog Thizzler and hip-hop media giant No Jumper.

Tripp, a polarizing personality online and viral content creator, produced and directed the official “Money Honey” music video through his media/production company Desert Money, LLC, further establishing its rise as an independent music empire. The music video was filmed in Los Angeles, California and features the iconic purple and gold of the Los Angeles Lakers as the two artists rap about their hustle and rise in the hip hop industry. The video also features three local Los Angeles models, all of whom identify as curve models in the modeling industry, a signature of Tripp’s body positive platform. With “Money Honey”, Tripp continues his unique approach to hip hop with his upbeat tunes, energetic performances, and high-production visuals.

Tripp’s featured artist on the track, Lil Seeto, made major waves in the rap industry last year after his appearance on Thizzler’s 2022 Cypher, a freestyle production that highlights up-and-coming artists on the West Coast. The Washington-born artist quickly gained a large following on TikTok following the viral cypher clip, surpassing 1M followers and being invited on tour with hip hop heavyweight YG for his “The Red Cup” Tour in 2023.

“Money Honey” marks the latest in a string of releases for Robbie Tripp in 2023, further establishing his rise as both a music artist and content creator. Building on viral moments such as his trendy TikTok anthem “Big Girl Banger” and his shocking drill-inspired rap video “Basic Bro”, Tripp says his latest release with Lil Seeto is the first of many collaborations with major artists forthcoming this year.

“I pride myself on being a high energy, high output, high production value creator so it’s a blast to have the opportunity to link up with other talented artists and creators and just express my vision.”

“I am the rap game Don Quixote,” Tripp says from his Desert Money headquarters in the glitzy desert of Las Vegas, Nevada. “I have a destiny to fulfill and that destiny is breaking into the rap game.”

The prolific content creator says he is already preparing the release of his next big collaboration in the coming weeks, and hints that it features a major rap star. Coming off the success of his latest releases that have garnered millions of streams and views across global music platforms, it’s clear that Robbie Tripp has no intentions of slowing down as he makes the most of his viral reputation online.

“Money Honey” by Robbie Tripp featuring Lil Seeto is out now on all platforms everywhere.

COLUMBIA, S.C.(WBNS10) — A mother drowned 1 of her daughters in their South Carolina home & was trying to kill another child when the oldest daughter was awakened by screams & managed to save her sister.

Jamie Bradley Brun, 37, was charged with murder & attempted murder after the attack.

Brun has talked to investigators & Tanner called it a horrific crime but told reporters he wouldn't say why Brun wanted to kill her children.

Brun's 16-year-old daughter was asleep around 1:30 a.m. Friday when her 8-year-old sister's screams woke her up.

The teen went into the bathroom & managed to wrest her sister away from her mother & run to a nearby family member's house to call 911.

Deputies arrived eight minutes later & found Brun & her 6-year-old daughter, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Brun tried to grab a deputy's gun as she was arrested & officers shocked her with a Taser to take her into custody.

Brun was being held without bond.

The 8-year-old did not appear to be seriously injured. She & her teen sister are being cared for by other family members.

Brun had no arrest record in South Carolina & authorities had been called to the house only once about 2 years ago after a school employee was concerned about the mental health of 1 of the children.

ATLANTA (ABC7) -- A man who died in a bedbug-infested cell in a Georgia jail's psychiatric wing "died due to severe neglect," according to an independent autopsy released Monday by lawyers for his family.

Lashawn Thompson, 35, died in September, 3 months after he was booked into the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta. Public outrage over his death spread last month after a lawyer for his family, Michael Harper, released photos of Thompson's face & body covered in insects.

The independent autopsy report lists the cause of death as "Complications due to Severe Neglect," with "Untreated Decompensated Schizophrenia" identified as a contributing cause.

A combination of dehydration, rapid weight loss & malnutrition, complicated by untreated decompensated schizophrenia led to a fatal cardiac arrythmia, the report says. Because he did not receive necessary medical care or adequate food, water & shelter, his manner of death is homicide.

An earlier report from the Fulton County medical examiner's office found no obvious signs of trauma on Thompson's body but noted a "severe bed bug infestation." It lists his cause of death as "undetermined."

The new autopsy "confirms that this is one of the most deplorable in-custody deaths in the history of America," said prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the family.

Thompson had lost 32 pounds, or about 18% of his body weight, during his 3 months at the Fulton County Jail & showed evidence of dehydration, the report says. In addition to an "innumerable number of insects" all over his body, his hands, feet, fingernails & toenails were filthy, it says.

Medical records from the jail indicate that Thompson received his last dose of the medications he'd been prescribed for his mental health issues 32 days before his death.

The independent autopsy was paid for by the Autopsy Initiative of the Know Your Rights Camp, an initiative started by former NFL star & activist Colin Kaepernick.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The NAACP over the weekend issued a travel advisory for Florida, joining 2 other civil rights groups in warning potential tourists that recent laws & policies championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida lawmakers are “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color & LGBTQ+ individuals.”

The NAACP, long an advocate for Black Americans, joined the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a Latino civil rights organization & Equality Florida, a gay rights advocacy group, in issuing travel advisories for the Sunshine State.

The warning approved Saturday by the NAACP’s board of directors tells tourists that, before traveling to Florida, they should understand the state of Florida “devalues & marginalizes the contributions of & the challenges faced by African Americans & other communities of color.”

Florida is one of the most popular states in the U.S. for tourists & tourism is one of its biggest industries. More than 137.5 million tourists visited Florida last year, marking a return to pre-pandemic levels. Tourism supports 1.6 million full-time & part-time jobs & visitors spent $98.8 billion in Florida in 2019, the last year figures are available.

Several of Florida’s Democratic mayors were quick to say Sunday that their cities welcomed diversity & inclusion.

The NAACP’s decision comes after the DeSantis’ administration in January rejected the College Board’s Advanced Placement African American Studies course. DeSantis & Republican lawmakers also have pressed forward with measures that ban state colleges from having programs on diversity, equity & inclusion, as well as critical race theory, & also passed the Stop WOKE Act that restricts certain race-based conversations & analysis in schools & businesses.
