TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Police said a Dunkin’ store employee fatally punched a 77-year-old customer in Florida after the employee said the man repeatedly used a racial slur against him.

The victim, a man who police did not name, was punched May 4 and died Friday. That led to a manslaughter charge against 27-year-old Corey Pujols, who worked at the store.

Pujols told police that the man was “extremely rude” the day of the punch and had called him a racial slur. Pujols, who is Black, said he confronted the man about the slur, at which point the 77-year-old repeated it. The slur was not described further by police.

A Tampa Police Department report says after he was punched, the victim fell backward and hit his head on the concrete floor. The Tampa Bay Times reports an autopsy shows the man suffered a skull fracture and brain contusions.

Pujols was jailed Tuesday without bail on a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a person older than 65, which carries a maximum 30-year prison sentence. Jail records show a public defender will be appointed to represent him.

A Dunkin’ spokesperson did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment from the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday.

EDEN, Texas (AP) — A West Texas man accused of fatally shooting two sheriff’s deputies was angry they were in his yard trying to catch a dog and he told them he would open fire if they didn’t leave, a witness said.

“They walked up towards him, rushed him, and he pulled a gun, and shots were fired,” David Hutchings told the San Angelo Standard-Times.

The shooting happened Monday evening in Eden, a city of about 1,300 people roughly 210 miles southwest of Dallas. Officials say Concho County deputies Stephen Jones & Samuel Leonard were killed & city employee Ronnie Winans was injured.

DPS said Wednesday that Nicholas opened fire on Jones & Leonard after they “made contact” with him while responding to a dog complaint.

Officials have said little else about what happened before the shooting, which is being investigated by the Texas Rangers. Jeffrey Nicholas, 28, is jailed in nearby Tom Green County Detention Center on two charges of capital murder of a peace officer.

Hutchings, a city employee who helps with animal control, told the newspaper that the officers were helping city employees collect two dogs that had bitten someone earlier in the day.

The deputies had already caught one of the dogs & the other one ran into Nicholas’ yard. Hutchings said Nicholas did not own either animal.

Nicholas told the deputies they couldn’t enter his yard to get the dog, then that they should “get off his property” & that he “has his civil rights,” Hutchings said.

He said Nicholas told the deputies that he would shoot them & then opened fire.

Hutchins said Winans, who is his boss, was shot in the stomach when a bullet went through door of a city pickup. DPS said Wednesday that Winans was in stable condition.

The funeral for Leonard is set for Monday, Jones’ funeral is set for Wednesday.

A standoff lasted for roughly 30 minutes, according to witnesses on the scene.

Nicholas was booked into the Tom Green County Jail. His bond is set at $4 million.

Multi-platinum songwriter J. Wright, was arrested on murder charges on Monday for his alleged hand in killing a woman in Davenport, Iowa.

On Sunday, Davenport police found 20-year-old Wilanna Bibbs dead after responding to a disturbance in the home. Bibbs was originally from Durham, North Carolina & is said to have been Wright’s girlfriend at the time of her murder. The songwriter, born Justin Wright, was detained and charged with first-degree murder. A cash-only bond was set on Monday at $500,000.

The local Fox affiliate reported that Wright asked for a court-appointed attorney, claiming all his belongings were stolen in November and that he’s been living out of hotels.

“I’m not making anything right now,” he told the judge.

The Atlanta native launched his Camp Entertainment Worldwide company in 2011. This full-service venture led to Wright working with superstar acts like Future, 21 Savage, Timbaland, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, DJ Khaled, Bow Wow & more. Through the company, Wright became a multi-platinum songwriter as well as an entrepreneur.

It’s unclear when Wright & Bibbs started dating. A family member told the Neighborhood Talk that the relationship was plagued by abuse and other toxic behavior:

“They were dating and Justin manipulated & controlled her, she was trying to leave,” the family member said in addition to leaving a comment under one of J. Wight’s posts, part of which read: “You took her to Iowa & killed her on Mother’s Day, you threatened to kill my daughter also a few ago in ATL. You brainwashed & manipulated my cousin & tried to turn her against us. I hate she loved you, I hate she ever met you.”

Soaring high out of Louisville, Kentucky is none other than female emcee Louie Moe! On Monday (April 12th), the Louisville rhymer dropped off her latest video titled, “Players Anthem” on WorldStar. Garnering such great feedback from her release, the music video accumulated over 1 million views and counting.

Keeping up the female trend… Louie Moe of course taps a female director to bring her record to life. The Shanice Raynell-directed visual does just that — continuing to push forward the significance behind this female empowering anthem. The pro-feministic anthem encourages women to focus on themselves rather than being distracted by outside influences. In the visual, Louie appears to be having the time of her life as she laughs, dances, and twerks her night away in a hotel surrounded by friends. You can also see scenes of Louie rapping to the camera in a stylish pink two-piece intermixed with scenes of her in Louis Vuitton pajamas. Throughout the record, Louie raps about not tolerating bullsh*t from anyone, particularly men, and quickly cutting them off if “they act funny.”“You can’t be bae if you ain’t never blow da pistol, shooters get to shoot their shot, they better throw a missile,” she says.Letting everyone know that she doesn’t mess around and that whoever is brave enough to shoot their shot better come correct.Born on the West Side of Louisville, Kentucky, Louie Moe comes from a big family with six sisters who were all raised by her mother. At the tender age of 7, Louie began tinkering with music before her passion for the art grew. Listening to the music her uncle shared with her as a kid is one of Louie’s fondest memories. Growing up in the hood, Louie experienced both the pros and cons of it. Despite missing a significant amount of school due to her family’s frequent moves, Louie graduated from high school with honors.Louie Moe’s musical debut came as her single titled, “First Day Out(Remix). Her first official video for “First Day Out” went viral without any kind of label backing or promotion. This is because Louie stands out from the crowd because she isn’t afraid to say what she thinks. She produces a vibe that is instantly relatable whether it’s upbeat or laid back, bringing more than sex appeal to her records.Louie has always found music to be a source of healing, and she hopes that her music has the same effect on others. Louie’s motivation for making music is to be a voice that cures others. She wants to curate the go-to music that people can listen to when they need to escape.Louie writes music that is both entertaining and true to her life and experiences. Her biggest musical influences are NBA Youngboy and Tupac, while her biggest fashion stars are Aaliyah and Rihanna. Louie’s key career goal is to be successful enough to encourage others to follow their dreams the same way that she did. Louie’s brand is known as “Da Army,” and it continues to expand daily.
Louie was most recently featured on Troy Ave’s Troy Ave Volume 1 and is currently promoting her latest single “Player’s Anthem,” which debuted recently on Worldstar. Louie Moe’s self-titled debut project, Louie Moe features a number of standout tracks, including “Player’s Anthem” listen here today!

Video After The Jump

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A 52-year-old teacher was sentenced to 15 years in prison for secretly recording videos of students as they changed clothes in his fashion design classroom at a Florida high school.

Mark William Ackett also must remain a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.

“There’s so much suffering in this case by so many different people due to the actions of the defendant. There’s very little I can say today to make any of that better,” Hillsborough County Judge Laura Ward said at his sentencing on Monday.

Ackett occasionally met the gaze of former students attending the hearing in a Tampa courtroom. He later read an apology in a clear, steady voice, the Tampa Bay Times reported. During the two-hour hearing he bowed his head as friends, neighbors and his wife of nearly 30 years begged for leniency.

But prosecutors pointed out that the 324 counts of video voyeurism Ackett pleaded guilty to in April call for roughly 366 years in prison, the newspaper reported.

Defense attorneys had asked for no more than three years, plus probation, promising that Ackett would continue seeking treatment for a diagnosed “voyeuristic disorder.”

Ackett sobbed as his victims spoke to the judge.

Eva Applebee, a longtime Bloomingdale High School teacher, spoke of the shock and disbelief she felt when she learned she was the only adult in the videos.

Prosecutors said Ackett, after returning to Bloomingdale as the girl’s track coach and fashion design teacher in 2017, collected, cropped and edited hundreds of nude and partially-nude videos and photos of 125 victims changing in the fashion design class dressing room.

Applebee told the court it felt like she had been punched in the stomach when she learned that his cameras were in the classroom they shared. The students now call the classroom the “room of horrors,” she said.

“What Mark did was not an isolated lapse of judgement but calculated and deliberate criminal acts,” Applebee said. “Mark groomed and chose his victims - gaining their trust and then taking advantage of them.”

A parent whose daughter was 15 when she was recorded changing clothes told the judge she can’t trust the school system any more.

“I can’t trust the teachers or the coaches, I can’t trust anyone anymore,” she said.

Several students said they struggle with depression and anxiety. Another went from being a standout on the girl’s track team to quitting completely. One victim told the judge she spent her father’s birthday sitting with investigators and identifying pictures of her naked body.

Those who came to court to speak on behalf of Ackett described him as a good neighbor, a good coach, a volunteer for his kids’ marching band, a trusted Sunday school teacher and a loving husband, the Times reported.

“I wish I could go back and change what I did, or do something to make amends but I know that I cannot,” Ackett said to the court. “I feel especially ashamed of what I did because you treated me with such care. Some of you confided in me your fears and problems, and many of you consider my classroom a safe place to escape the problems that you face. I will never forgive myself for turning something that should have been a fond memory for you into something that you would rather forget.”

Prosecutors said Ackett was caught when a 17-year-old student noticed a box on a shelf with a light coming from it as she changed clothes. Inside it, she found a cellphone that appeared to be recording. She told the school’s principal who called the sheriff’s office.

“He is an excellent actor, having fooled us and his very own family for years,” Applebee said. “Acting like he cared, like he respected us. But instead we found out it was a big act.”

One night is not enough. #TheForeverPurge in theaters July 2. Watch the trailer now.

This summer, all the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end in The Forever Purge.

Vaulting from the record-shattering success of 2018’s The First Purge, Blumhouse’s infamous terror franchise hurtles into innovative new territory as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre. No one is safe.

Adela (Ana de la Reguera, Cowboys & Aliens) and her husband Juan (Tenoch Huerta, Days of Grace) live in Texas, where Juan is working as a ranch hand for the wealthy Tucker family. Juan impresses the Tucker patriarch, Caleb (Will Patton, Halloween), but that fuels the jealous anger of Caleb’s son, Dylan (Josh Lucas, Ford v Ferrari).

On the morning after The Purge, a masked gang of killers attacks the Tucker family—including Dylan’s wife (Cassidy Freeman, HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones), and his sister (Leven Rambin, The Hunger Games), forcing both families to band together and fight back as the country spirals into chaos and the United States begins to disintegrate around them.

From a screenplay by franchise creator and narrative mastermind James DeMonaco, The Forever Purge is directed by Everardo Gout, writer-director of the award-winning thriller Days of Grace. The film is produced by the franchise’s founding producers: Jason Blum for his Blumhouse Productions; Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller; and Man in a Tree duo James DeMonaco and his longtime producing partner Sébastien K. Lemercier. The film’s executive producers are Marcei A. Brown, Everardo Gout and Jeanette Volturno. Universal Pictures presents, in association with Perfect World Pictures, a Platinum Dunes/Blumhouse/Man in a Tree production.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jay-Z, Foo Fighters & the Go-Go’s were elected Wednesday to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame their first time on the ballot, leading a class that also includes Tina Turner, Carole King & Todd Rundgren.

Each will be honored during an induction ceremony in Cleveland on Oct. 30 before what organizers hope is a full house of fans enjoying live music again.

The hall will also welcome LL Cool J, Billy Preston & Randy Rhoads with musical excellence awards, & honor Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron & Charley Patton as early influencers.

With Jay-Z, the hall inducts a 23-time Grammy winner & the first rap artist in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His discography includes “Hard Knock Life,” “99 Problems” & “Empire State of Mind.” He has had 14 No. 1 albums to his credit.

After serving as Nirvana’s drummer, Dave Grohl stepped to center stage with Foo Fighters, becoming one of the few modern rock bands comfortable in arenas. Their hard-hitting sound produced the hits “Best of You,” “Everlong” & “Times Like These.”

As an all-female band that played their own instruments, the Go-Go’s were a relative rarity in the early 1980s. Born from Los Angeles’ punk rock scene, they had a string of melodic hits that included “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed” & “Vacation.”

Turner, recently celebrated in an HBO documentary, was one of rock’s most stirring comeback stories. After escaping from an abusive relationship with husband and musical partner Ike Turner, she became a solo star in the 1980s behind the world-weary “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” and scored other hits with “Private Dancer” & “We Don’t Need Another Hero.”

Michael Jordan is still so torn up over losing Kobe Bryant ... he says he can't bring himself to erase the final text messages he received from the Lakers legend just days before his death.

The NBA's G.O.A.T. revealed this week his last talks with Bryant went down on Dec. 8, 2019 ... just 49 days before Kobe and his daughter, Gianna, were killed in a helicopter crash.

Jordan told ESPN's Jackie MacMullen the convo was simple ... Kobe complimented his new tequila, asked about his family, and commented on coaching Gianna's girl's basketball team.

"This tequila is awesome," Jordan said Kobe texted after he had sent over a bottle.

"Thank you, my brother," Jordan says he responded.

"Yes, sir. Family good?" Kobe replied.

"All good. Yours?"

"All good."

Jordan continued ... "Happy holidays, and hope to catch up soon. Coach Kobe??!"

"Ah, back at you, man," MJ says Kobe wrote back. "Hey, coach, I'm sitting on the bench right now, and we're blowing this team out. 45-8."

Jordan says the messages -- particularly the one about dominating with Gianna's team -- mean a lot to him -- explaining, "I just love that text because it shows Kobe's competitive nature."

Jordan added, "I don't know why, but I just can't delete it."

As we previously reported, Jordan was picked by Vanessa Bryant to give Kobe's induction speech at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame ceremonies this Saturday in Connecticut.

Jordan says the honor is huge -- and he promised he'd be emotional remembering his good friend during the evening.

"It's like standing up for a family member," Jordan said. "He paid me the highest respect by trying to emulate certain things I did."

"And I can only repay that by showing my support and admiration for a guy who I felt was one of the greatest to ever play the game."

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama police officer convicted of murder for shooting a suicidal man who was holding a gun to his own head has been taken off duty but will continue to be paid, the city of Huntsville said.

Officer William Darby, who was initially placed on desk duty following the killing of Jeffrey Parker in 2018, can’t continue working as an officer because of the conviction and went on leave Monday, city spokeswoman Lucy DeButy told news outlets.

“This is the normal process until formal proceedings under the City of Huntsville’s personnel policies and procedures are complete,” she said in a statement. Darby was freed on $100,000 bond soon after the verdict on Friday.

While Mayor Tommy Battle, a Republican, and Police Chief Mark McMurray have disagreed publicly with the jurors’ decision, Alabama Democratic Party executive director Wade Perry criticized the city’s move to keep paying Darby.

“He’s a convicted murderer. He shouldn’t get another day’s pay. Fire him. And the police chief,” Perry said in a statement.

Darby shot Parker, 49, moments after joining two other officers who had responded to a 911 call from the man, who said he was armed and planned to kill himself.

One of the officers, who has since left the force, testified that Parker was upset but talking with her and posed no immediate threat despite the gun he held to his head. Jurors rejected defense claims that the shooting was justified.

A defense attorney said Darby will appeal. He could receive a sentence ranging from 20 years to life at hearing expected to be held in about six weeks, a prosecutor said.

While a city review board cleared Darby of wrongdoing, a county grand jury indicted him in the shooting. The city had said it would pay as much as $125,000 toward his defense.

News4Jax is learning more about Aiden Fucci, the teen accused of murdering 13-year-old schoolmate Tristyn Bailey in her St. Johns County neighborhood over the weekend.

Aiden Fucci, 14, was arrested early Monday on suspicion of second-degree murder & booked into the St. Johns County jail. Fucci was transferred to the Volusia County Regional Detention Center, where a judge on Tuesday ordered him to be held in Department of Juvenile Justice custody for 21 days.

St. Johns County Sheriff Robert Hardwick said Fucci, a schoolmate of Bailey’s at Patriot Oaks Academy, is the lone suspect in her murder. No information about a possible motive in the case has been released.

Bailey’s body was found Sunday evening near a retention pond in a cul-de-sac in the Durbin Crossing subdivision, less than a half-mile from Fucci’s home. The discovery was made by a neighbor out for a walk around 6 p.m., roughly eight hours after Bailey’s family called 911 to report her missing.

The medical examiner’s office determined Bailey, who had what investigators described as a “significant injury to hear head & other trauma,” was stabbed to death. Her death was ruled a homicide.

According to Fucci’s arrest report, the 14-year-old gave an initial statement to detectives but his story changed several times. Despite those inconsistencies, a deputy noted in the report that Fucci “ultimately made several admissions.”

Based on Fucci’s statements & the discovery of Bailey’s body, investigators got a warrant to search his home, where they recovered “several items of evidentiary value,” the Sheriff’s Office said. Those items included articles of clothing, some of which tested positive for blood.

The report also shed light on surveillance video detectives reviewed as part of the investigation. Among the clips was footage from Durbin Crossing’s North Amenity Center, which showed two people matching Fucci’s & Bailey’s descriptions walking about 1:14 a.m. Sunday.

Detectives also recovered surveillance video from a home along Saddlestone Drive, which showed the pair walking east on Saddlestone about 1:45 a.m. A little less than two hours later, the camera captured only one individual walking west & carrying a pair of shoes.

It’s not yet clear if Fucci will be charged as an adult in the case. A spokesperson for the 7th Circuit State Attorney’s Office said the agency will be working with the Sheriff’s Office to determine which charges are appropriate & whether Fucci will be treated as an adult.

Saying investigators are continuing to work the early stages of what is still an active investigation, Sheriff Hardwick said the Sheriff’s Office would limit the details it released in an effort to preserve the integrity of the case.
