The city of Louisville will pay $2 million to settle two lawsuits filed by the boyfriend of Breonna Taylor.
"He will live with the effects of being put in harm’s way due to a falsified warrant, to being a victim of a hailstorm of gunfire and to suffering the unimaginable and horrific death of Breonna Taylor," 1 of Kenneth Walker's attorneys, Steve Romines, said.
Walker filed federal & state lawsuits, contending that officers violated his rights when they entered Taylor's apartment without warning & used excessive force.
A portion of the money that Walker won in the settlement will be used for a scholarship fund for law students interested in civil rights law.
Walker was with Taylor the night of March 13, 2020, when police officers entered Taylor's apartment to serve a no-knock warrant.
Walker, who believed that intruders were entering the home, fired 1 shot from a handgun, striking 1 officer. The police responded by opening fire & striking Taylor multiple times.
The Justice Department earlier this year charged 4 Louisville Metro Police Department officers involved with drafting the "no-knock" search warrant that led to the shooting of Taylor.
In September, 2 of Taylor's neighbors sued a former LMPD police officer who previously pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Chelsey Napper & Cody Etherton in September filed a civil lawsuit against former police officer Kelly Goodlett. The neighbors filed a separate lawsuit in 2020 against some of the officers involved in the raid.
Two former officers involved in the raid — Detective Joshua Jaynes & Kyle Meany — are set to go on trial in federal court next year.

We're very sad to report that legendary hip hop artist Grand Daddy I.U. passed away in his sleep Tuesday, December 13, 2022., according to his close friends Paula Perry and Da Inphamus Amadeuz.
No cause of death has been released publicly.
The 54-year old, born Ayub Bey, had been a fixture in the rap scene for 32 years as an emcee, producer and ghostwriter
Grand Daddy I.U. released four solo albums, beginning with "Smooth Assassin" in 1990.
He's best known for the hit songs "Something New," "Represent" and "Sugar Free."
Our deepest condolences go out to Grand Daddy I.U.'s family and friends.

Lil Meech landed in a bit of hot water at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Tuesday ... after we're told authorities found him with a gun.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Hip Hop Lil Meech was at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Tuesday when security discovered a firearm in his luggage. We're told deputies from the Broward Co. Sheriff's Office were called to the scene and arrested the actor.
As for the weapon, our sources say it was a Glock 19 9mm ... it wasn't loaded, but cops also found a 15-round magazine. Lil Meech did not have a carry permit.
Meech was transported and booked for introducing a firearm into the sterile area of the airport ... a felony. Apparently, the actor isn't alone in his mistake ... as we're told this was the 130th gun found at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood this year.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Las Vegas Police are still looking for a suspect involved in a November carjacking in which the victim shot & killed 1 of the suspects.
On November 19th, a woman told detectives she went to pick up her friend on their way to a Friendsgiving. The woman said the pair was too early to the party, so they decided to park near the house to wait. She said she noticed a vehicle approach them fast. She said the suspects parked directly in front of her car blocking it. She told detectives 2 black males got out of the vehicle with guns pointed at the women. The men yelled at the women to get out of the car. Before she could process what was going on, one of the males opened the driver’s side door & grabbed her by the shirt, yanking her out of the car. 1 of the men got into the driver’s seat & attempted to drive away but was not able to get the vehicle into drive. The woman said the car requires a button to be pressed to drive the car. The man had trouble doing so & placed his gun in his lap while he attempted to steal the car. The woman told her friend to run.
A 2nd suspect got into the passenger seat & told the 1st suspect, “Just go.” The woman noticed the suspect wasn’t holding the gun anymore. She grabbed it out of his lap & ran. The man tackled her from behind. That’s when she turned & shot him.
Officers arrived & found a deceased male adult bleeding from his head lying in street. During the course of the investigation, detectives saw a vehicle of interest casing the area in multiple surveillance videos.
On December 2nd, LVMPD officers located Jaylin Morrison & took him into custody.
Morrison is facing charges of 2nd-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with the use of a deadly weapon & attempted grand larceny of a vehicle.

The nonbinary Biden administration official facing up to 5 years in prison for allegedly stealing luggage in Minnesota now faces up to 10 years in prison for stealing another bag in Nevada.
Samuel Brinton — who has served as the Energy Department's deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel & waste disposition since June allegedly stole a suitcase with a total estimate worth of $3,670 on July 6 at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The bag contained jewelry valued at $1,700, clothing worth $850 & makeup valued at $500.
Police closed the investigation, though, after they were unable to identify the person who took the suitcase.
On Nov. 29, investigators reopened the case after media reports highlighting Brinton's alleged theft in a Minnesota airport surfaced. Upon viewing the news articles, the officer who had closed the case months earlier "immediately recognized" Brinton "as the suspect pertaining to this case."
"Brinton demonstrated several signs of abnormal behavior while taking the victim's luggage which are cues suspects typically give off when committing luggage theft," the LVMPD detective wrote in a report. "Specifically, Brinton pulled the victim's luggage from the carousel & examined the tag. Then placing it back on the carousel, looking in all directions for anyone who might be watching," it continued. "Pulling it back off the carousel before walking away with it quickly."
In Nevada, grand larceny of items worth more than $3,500 is considered a category B felony & is punishable by up to 10 years in prison & a fine of up to $10,000.
Brinton is scheduled to appear at a court hearing in Minnesota state court later this month to face similar charges from a September incident at the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport.
"Sam Brinton is on leave from DOE," a DOE spokesperson said.

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (AP) — A 76-year-old Minnesota man is facing criminal charges because he was shooting at a squirrel and a bullet went through a child’s bedroom window in a neighboring home.
East Grand Forks Police said they arrested the man Sunday after his neighbor reported some bullet holes in the siding of their home and a hole in the window of their son’s bedroom.
The man told officers he had been watching ball games on television and noticed a squirrel on his bird feeder, according to police. He told officers he shot a .22-caliber rifle from his bedroom window at the squirrel and believed he hit the animal.
He told officers he had shot at squirrels at least six times over the past two years because he considered it “war” when they got into his bird feeder.
The man’s wife said to him, “Well, I told you” as he was being arrested, police said.
The man is charged with recklessly handling a dangerous weapon, a misdemeanor, and a felony count of discharging a firearm within a municipality. He faces up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine for the felony charge.

Raised in the small town of Olney, Maryland MNA (Matthew Nino Azcuy) watched and listened to all of the greatest rappers and musicians during the 1990’s and early 2000’s. During this golden age of music and music videos, Azcuy was inspired by both rappers and rock groups alike, and when he was sixteen years old decided to make his own music. After years of finding his sound, he teamed up with local producer nemo, to make his album “Diamond Dog”. Matthew Nino Azcuy, who prefers to just go by MNA, was born and raised in the small town of Olney, Maryland during the 1990s and early 2000s and has taken great inspiration from the great names of this time for his work as a result. Indeed, his music's unique energy and passion often come from these early inspirations, offering a unique blend of the rock and rap genres to create an electronic-type sound that's wonderfully unique. MNA's first ventures in the music field occurred at the age of sixteen when he first ventured into music writing. However, it took years for him to truly find that one unique sound that he could call "his" - but we're so glad that he got there in the end! In fact, music writing was something of a saving grace for Azcuy, who turned to the comfort offered by songwriting after a difficult period in his life, and he credits both God and his music for helping him to get back on track and strive for greater pursuits. Mercenary by MNA is an album about the dark fantasy world in which rap culture and the entertainment industry exist. Mercenary, which compares a businessman to a gun for hire, is an album and story that depicts the battle inside of every entrepreneur. How fighting for one’s money, power, career, legacy, and place in the world can often resemble the personal sacrifice of war and soldiers, albeit for profit. This album was inspired by the personal successes and two-year journey of rap artist MNA and his music production company MNA Industries in the music world. "Mercenary" was recorded by City's Best Sounds in Olney, MD and was released on January 22, 2022.
