David N. Donihue’s brutally funny THE BANG BANG BROKERS studies the impact of the economy on race relations in the boldest of ways. A rare topic in mainstream film, The Bang Bang Brokers documents carefully the effects of Wall Street on the gang ridden urban jungles of the United States. The film dives deeply into the minorities fighting against each other, unknowingly for the profit of corporations whose stock prices are hinged to their ability to use cheap prison labor.
While a fictional action comedy, the film serves up a large amount of real life data and information on the long term consequences of putting profits before people.
It is an important film to be discussed within the academic landscape, as it touches upon societal ills that can be cured by the next generation of thinkers and administrators. An absolute must to watch and discuss.

Toi-Lin Kelly, the fiancee of Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight will be spending the next three years in prison.
The L.A. Times reports that In October 2017, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Douglas Sortino, sentenced Kelly to five years on probation for selling surveillance footage connected to Knight's forthcoming murder trial to TMZ for $55,000. A previous judge had prohibited the sale of the recording to media.
On Friday, February 2, Sortino ruled that Kelly violated the terms of her probation by helping Knight circumvent a court order limiting his jailhouse phone communications. She allegedly helped set up interviews between the business mogul and BET for a documentary about his former record label.
Sortino said that Kelly had "basically slapped him in the face after he granted her probation."
During the court proceeding Kelly asked for leniency. Saying her 8-year old son would be without both parents if she went to prison. Those pleas fell of deaf ears.
As for Knight, he is currently in jail awaiting trial for an alleged 2015 hit-and-run incident in Compton that injured his rival Cle "Bone" Sloan and left Terry Carter, 55, dead.
He's charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and two counts of hit-and-run. If convicted Knight is facing a life sentence.

The New York Police Department wants to talk with Desiigner about a traffic dispute that took place last month.
TMZ reports that the 20-year old rapper, born Sidney Selby III, got into a heated argument with another driver and twice pulled out his penis on a busy NYC street, yelling "Suck my dick" after being called a homophobic slur.
A cop on the scene failed miserably while trying to intervene. Both Desiigner and the driver of the other vehicle eventually left the scene. There was no physical altercation, but based on video of the incident authorities would like to question the "Panda" hit maker.

(Chicago Sun Times) Justin Payne thought he was on his way to becoming a New Orleans police officer.
Instead, the 26-year-old will soon be on his way to Chicago to face murder charges in the 2016 death of his former boss at a Southwest Side trucking company.
After Payne applied to the New Orleans Police Department in October 2017, officials sent a reference request to his former employer, NOPD spokesman Beau Tidwell said.
Payne’s name raised a red flag for that employer, who called Chicago police — who, in turn, rang up New Orleans police to alert them that Payne was a suspect in a nearly year-old homicide case, Tidwell said.
Payne had worked in Chicago for Luis Pena, a 64-year-old found dead the morning of Dec. 30, 2016, in the office trailer of Pena’s firm in the 4200 block of South Keating, authorities said at the time.
CPD officers had been called for a report of a person shot, but Pena, a West Lawn neighborhood resident, died of multiple blunt-force and sharp-force injuries in a homicidal assault, an autopsy found. No arrests were made in the days after the attack.
After learning of the allegations, New Orleans police asked Payne to come to their headquarters, under the pretense of providing more information for his job application.
When Payne showed up on Wednesday, he was met by Chicago detectives, and he later confessed to the killing, Tidwell said.
An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued in Cook County for Payne on Thursday, court records show. A CPD spokesman confirmed the arrest but declined to release additional details until Payne is brought back to Chicago.
Payne — who is listed in court records as a resident of Whiting, Indiana — remains jailed without bond in New Orleans, ahead of a Monday extradition hearing.
