MINNEAPOLIS - A Minneapolis man is claiming he's the victim of police brutality after a traffic stop put him in the hospital. Derryl Jenkins, 42, was stopped for speeding in February. A criminal complaint obtained by FOX 9 says Jenkins was driving 15 mph over the speed limit in the area of Dowling Ave. and Penn Ave. in north Minneapolis. At the time, Minneapolis police said Jenkins smelled of alcohol, refused to give his license and became irate. When Jenkins attempted to get out of the car, an officer pushed him back in. The two then started fighting, before several more officers arrived on the scene. The officer statements obtained by FOX 9, say several police officers kicked him and punched him because he was resisting. A Taser was also used to subdue Jenkins. Both Jenkins and an officer involved in the altercation were taken to North Memorial Medical Center for their injuries, which included a split lip and bloody nose. Jenkins' attorney says charges in that case where eventually dropped, but he's now considering a lawsuit against the Minneapolis Police Department. Source : MyFoxTwinCities

Jay-Z's Top VMA Moments: A Look Back

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards are back in New York this year, and no one represents the Big Apple quite like Jay-Z. So, it only makes sense for the Brooklyn rap icon to perform during the festivities. When the show airs live on September 13 at 9 p.m. ET, Jay will take to the stage to perform a track from his upcoming album, The Blueprint 3, which will drop just days prior to the big show. It won't be his first time appearing at the VMAs, although it'll definitely be one of his most eagerly anticipated. Here MTV News recaps five other memorable times Hov graced our stage in the past 10 year 1999: Run This Town Jay-Z made his VMA performance debut in a big way at New York's Metropolitan Opera House. Joined by Ja Rule and Amil, Jigga took to the stage to perform his breakout hit "Can I Get A ..." along with a medley of tracks from his best-selling Vol 2...Hard Knock Life. His 2009 performance has a lot to live up to in order to top this one. 2001: Classic Just days before he released one of his most celebrated albums, The Blueprint, Jay-Z was already basking in the success of the project. The legendary lyricist donned a number 23 Chicago Bulls jersey with Carter emblazoned on the back as he performed "Izzo (H.O.V.A)." The message was clear: This was his year in hip-hop. Everyone agreed. 2003: Meet the Carters Madonna's kiss with Britney may have had tongues wagging, but the real steam came when Jay-Z joined Beyoncé for their hit "Crazy in Love." B cozied up to Jay and put some extra oomph into her moves when she walked past her man. Jay might not have been onstage for long, but sparks were flying during his screen time. 2004: And The Winner Is ... Hov! The Roc boy was definitely in the house on this night. Jay-Z tied with Outkast for the most Moonmen at the 2004 VMAs held in Miami. His gritty, artistic and authentic clip for "99 Problems" scored the Roc-A-Fella boss wins for Best Rap Video, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography. He did say he would not lose. 2006: King of New York You guys thought Mayor Bloomberg oversaw the city? Think again. Jay-Z introduced the 2006 VMAs perched 70 stories atop the famed GE Building in Rockefeller Plaza. The show was back in New York after two consecutive years in Miami. With one simple line and gesture, he made us feel like we never left. "Welcome home," Jay said as he put on his trademark Yankee hat. Atlanta Journal Constitution Reports Atlanta police on Thursday released surveillance video of at least one suspect in the shooting death of boxing great Vernon Forrest. The video is from security cameras at the Whitehall Street gas station where Forrest was robbed and a nearby apartment complex. “The images are good enough to get a mug shot of the robber,” Detective Lt. Keith Meadows said of footage showing an armed man in jeans and a black T-shirt. Police are looking for three to four men in connection with the Saturday night killing of the 38-year-old boxer. “We believe that the person that robbed Mr. Forrest and the one who actually murdered him is not the same person,” Meadows said. One man robbed Forrest at gunpoint, taking his diamond and gold “4X World Champion” ring and a Rolex watch, police said. Forrest pulled a gun from his waist and went after the robber, police said. A second man shot Forrest multiple times in the back after he chased the robber, police said. And at least one other man was in a red Pontiac Grand Prix that later retrieved the robber and the shooter, police said. “Security footage actually picks up the [robbery] suspect, but Mr. Forrest actually loses sight of the subject,” Meadows said. Investigators used time stamps from video recorded at the 505 Fulton Street apartment building and the Whitehall Street convenience store to compile a timeline of events, Meadows said. Footage from the gas station shows the Pontiac pull into the station, and the man police say was the robber get out. Video from the apartment complex showed the same man enter a breezeway, carrying a silver handgun, just after police said Forrest had given chase. “At that point Mr. Forrest comes around the corner, and he encounters another individual we believe has a gun in his hand,” Meadows said, citing witness accounts. “Mr. Forrest and this individual exchange words, and he realizes this is not the individual that actually robbed him ... Mr. Forrest turns and walks away.”

In this July 26, 2007 file photo, boxer Vernon Forrest smiles as he answers questions during a news conference in Tacoma, Wash. Forrest was robbed and shot "multiple times in the back" in Atlanta. The armed man shot Forrest seven or eight times, police said. The apartment footage later showed the robber waiting in the breezeway and talking on his cell phone before being picked up by the Pontiac. The car then drove south on McDaniel Street, Meadows said.
