Actress and AIDS activist Rosie Perez claims she was injured back in Sept. 2009 on the set of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Now, ET talks to the Emmy-nominated actress to find out why she is wearing a neck brace and why she was scared for her career.

"I have two slipped discs, one bulge, three sprained ligaments, and a pinched nerve, which resulted in minor nerve damage," Rosie tells ET.

She says the problem began during a stunt, which she says resulted in shaken baby syndrome, but she says she was initially misdiagnosed, and, as a result, she waited a long time to get a correct diagnosis.

"Then, when the problem was diagnosed correctly, I didn't listen to the doctors because I wanted to try alternative methods to heal. Then, I finally had to relent and give in to surgery," she says.

NBC was contacted but declined to comment on the story.

ET caught up with Rosie, a member of the Presidential Advisory Council for HIV/AIDS (PACHA), shortly after she returned from Washington, D.C., where she met President Barack Obama, neck brace and all.

"I have been an AIDS activist for 23 years," Rosie says. "AIDS has been in our lives for 30 years and there has never been a national AIDS strategy ever in the United States of America. This was the first time that it has occurred."

Naturally, she didn't want to miss the occasion, so Rosie, who had surgery just a few weeks ago, talked to her doctor, who gave her permission to go only if she followed his instructions to the letter: Go to the White House, do her thing and leave. No parties.

"We got to have a private moment with the president," she continues. "I sat in a chair and I did not want to have the picture taken with the neck brace on, so I had my scarf to rap around it. I could not stand at attention. [When] the Commander and Chief walks in the room, you stand at attention.

So, he is shaking everyone's hands and he gets to me and he says, 'Rosie, what did you do to yourself?' I said, 'I injured myself on set.' He said, 'What were you doing -- a stunt? And everyone said, 'Yeah,' and he goes, 'Didn't they tell you that they have professionals to do that?' It was really funny."

Despite her injury, Rosie, who says she hadn't worked since September, managed to film a Lifetime TV movie, "Lies in Plain Sight," again under strict doctor's orders.

She says, "I went to my doctor and I said, 'I really want to do this project.' He said, 'All you can do is dialogue, you can't do any action.' So, I had a spinal injection and they extracted spinal fluid and they injected this other thing in my neck and in my spine. I was only able to work for, I think, five days, or six or seven days. But, then, towards the end of the shoot, I was in so much pain that we had to really, really take it easy."

Rosie says she has gotten through all this with the help of loved ones and by staying positive. She is so positive, in fact, that she has more work lined up for when the doctor gives her the green light to resume her career.

It turns out Diddy's Midas touch extends beyond music.

The hip-hop mogul told "Inside the Actor's Studio" host James Lipton, during his pre-taped appearance that aired Tuesday night (May 25), that he predicted Halle Berry would win an Academy Award for "Monster's Ball" — with his aid.

"I knocked on Halle's door at a hotel," Diddy recalled, after his acting coach urged him to jet across the country to claim his role in the movie. "And she was like, 'What are you doing here?' I was like, 'Give me five minutes. Do you remember when people just looked at you as a pretty face? Remember in "Strictly Business" and no one would give you chance? I know you may think that I'm gonna be polarizing, that I'm gonna take your shot to win a Oscar.' But I said, 'I'm gonna help you win an Oscar. I'm gonna be believable.' I said, 'Give me a chance.' "

Berry, of course, did go on to earn an Oscar for her portrayal of Leticia Torres, an embattled wife whose husband was executed by her new lover, a fact she learned after their hookup. Diddy joked that with Berry's win and later Phylicia Rashad's Tony win for "A Raisin in the Sun," he has a recruiting pitch for his future co-stars. "You'll always win," he said.

Throughout his conversation with Lipton, Diddy was engaging, jovial and displayed a restrained charisma. The producer/rapper-turned-actor had the support of his mother, Janice Combs, and his son, Justin Combs, who were seated in the audience, along with a number of aspiring actors, writers and directors. Diddy took questions from the crowd and told the students to never take no for an answer, citing the encouragement from his acting coach, Susan Batson.

Diddy appeared on the show to help promote his latest film, "Get Him to the Greek." In the movie, Diddy plays an over-the-top record executive — he told Lipton his character, Sergio, was only mildly similar to himself — that has been earning rave reviews from his co-stars, including Jonah Hill.

"I think Diddy's going to really shock people," Hill told MTV News earlier this year. "We were saying Diddy's kind of the McLovin of 'Get Him to the Greek.' You don't know what he's going to do. Every time he breathes in the movie, it garners a huge laugh."

Sacramento Bee Reports A 58-year-old convicted rapist and registered sex offender and his wife have been arrested in connection with the 1991 abduction of 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard, who surfaced alive in the Bay Area on Wednesday after disappearing for 18 years. Authorities were swarming the neighborhood on Walnut Avenue in Antioch where Phillip Craig Garrido, a 6-foot, 4-inch, 196-pound registered sex offender lived with his wife, Nancy Garrido, is listed on the state's Megan's Law sex offender Web site as being convicted of rape.

Phillip Craig Garrido, a registered sex offender, is reportedly a suspect in the abduction of Jaycee Lee Dugard. State parole officials said Garrido came to their attention after someone reported suspicious activity because he was seen near UC-Berekley with two small children. On Wednesday, parole agents and Concord police brought Garrido in for questioning, along with the two children and an adult female. During questioning, authorities said, Garrido confesse that he had abducted Dugard and the adult woman in his company revealed that she was Dugard. Garrido had served time in a federal prison in Nevada for sexual assault. Garrido's next-door neighbor said people in the area had known for years that Garrido was a registered sex offender and that at one point someone called authorities because they were concerned that there were children living in the home. Haydee Perry, 32, said her boyfriend has a 7-year-old daughter and that he was concerned about Garrido living next door. She said a friend of her boyfriend had called police a few years ago because there were children living in the Garrido home and other people were living in the yard in tents. Neighbors also noted that Garrido had a penchant for wandering the neighborhood distributing religious tracts and quoting Bible verse, she said. Perry added that nothing came of the call to police. Perry said she talked to a young girl at the home recently who she estimated was 11 and that the girl had indicated she had two older sisters, one a young teen and the other 28, about the same age as Dugard today. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office this morning confirmed the identity of the 29-year-old woman who walked into a Bay Area police station claiming to be Dugard. Further, in an extraordinary sequence of events today, federal and local law agencies renewed their focus on the 18-year-old mystery of what happened to the blond, blue-eyed girl who was abducted while walking to school June 10, 1991.

Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted in 1991. El Dorado County sheriff's officials were preparing to release details on the case at a 3 p.m. press conference, but the girl's stepfather confirmed to The Bee early today that Jaycee had resurfaced and was being reunited with her mother. Carl Probyn, Jaycee's stepfather, said his wife and daughter were flying to Northern California to meet Dugard and that his wife, Terry, spoke with the young woman by phone Wednesday night. The Probyns, who are separated, live in Southern California, Carl in Orange County and Terry in Riverside. Terry Probyn and their daughter, Shayna, 19, boarded a 6 a.m. flight to the Bay Area to meet with Dugard, Carl Probyn said. Probyn said he is elated. "I'm just pleased that she is alive and well," said Probyn, a 60-year-old Orange County wallpaper contractor. Probyn, who has yet to speak with his stepdaughter, said he believes suspects who might have been involved with the abduction are in custody. Dugard's disappearance prompted a massive search, nationwide publicity and one of the largest police investigations in the region. Dugard was on her way to school when authorities said she was pulled into a stranger's car just a block away from her South Lake Tahoe home. Probyn said he heard her scream and saw a man and a woman drive his stepdaughter away in a gray two-tone sedan. Despite several false sightings, Dugard was never seen again. One person in the car was described as a 30-year-old woman with long, dark hair. Jaycee was last seen dressed in a pink windbreaker, white T-shirt and pink stretch pants. The stepfather said Shayna Probyn called Wednesday about 4 p.m. and said, "Mom has something to say to you. Are you sitting down?"
