Singer Faith Evans Busted For DUI In L.A.

Singer Faith Evans got caught up at a DUI checkpoint in Los Angeles and was taken into custody last night (August 21). The former wife of rapper Notorious B.I.G. was booked on suspicion of DUI after police detected alcohol during the stop, according to TMZ. No word yet on her blood alcohol level. Faith is trying to get her career back on track and is expected to release an album in October.

The Year Rap Got Drunk: 2009's Best Hip-Hop Songs About Booze

The last 12 months are likely to be remembered for their eclectic cultural sweep -- as the year Tiger Woods was sucked into a vortex of groupie hell, Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme came tumbling down and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” became a legitimate dinner party talking point. But at street level, ’09 will go down in the annals for something else entirely. It was the year hip-hop finally plunged face-first into full-blown alcoholism. We’re not talking about “You can find me in the club / bottles full of bubb” -- or any of that namby-pamby, bling-era conspicuous consumption (Jay-Z, as well as every other MC to rhyme “Cristal” with “pistol,” please pay your waitress and leave). Mainstream rap went giddy, downright hiccuping drunk, glorifying alcohol consumption. This year, the pop charts were awash with MCs and R&B crooners extolling the virtues of chasing a buzz and winding up wasted -- hopefully with some kind of sexual conquest to offset the bar bill. Somewhere, Charles Bukowski and Dylan Thomas are probably tuning in to Power 106 FM. Meanwhile, auto-tune savant T-Pain and Crunk’s capo di tutti capos, Lil Jon, emerged as this year’s preeminent champions of booze-sozzled hip-hop. So herewith, the top 9 (as in '09) most alcoholic-enabling hip-hop songs of the year. “Shots” – LMFAO featuring Lil Jon Jägerbombs, lemon drops, Jello shots and kamikazes as well as premium liquors such as Ciroc Vodka and the rappers’ de facto favorite (judging by its ubiquity in hip-hop songs since 2006) Patrón tequila all get a shout-out on this Crunk-inflected club-banger. Even if the song’s “we came to party” ethos is hardly groundbreaking, its hook remains unforgettable: Lil Jon hoarsely screaming the word “shots!” 16 times in a row. “Blame It” – Jamie Foxx featuring T-Pain “Blame it on the Goose, got ya feelin’ loose / Blame it on the 'trón, catch me in a zone / Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol,” Foxx sings with no small amount of added Auto-tune attitude in this boudoir jam that was all but inescapable on Top 40 radio earlier this year. Yes, he is talking about Grey Goose and Patrón. But later in the song, he lays bare his reasoning: by continuing to fill a potential love interest’s cup, she’s more likely to lose her inhibitions – “Fill another cup up / Feelin’ on your butt what?” “Crack a Bottle” – Eminem featuring Dr. Dre and 50 Cent “So crack a bottle / Let your body waddle / Don’t act like a snobby model / You just hit the Lotto,” Em sing-raps on the chorus of this party track. The operative thinking here conflates sobriety with snootiness and getting wasted with winning a lottery jackpot. “Crazy Night” – R. Kelly featuring R. City “This Hennessy got me,” R. Kelly croons on the lead cut from his latest album, “Untitled.” Then he gets to the chorus: “If you’re drinkin’ what I’m drinkin’, put your hands up in the sky / If you’re thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’, you’ll say, 'What a crazy night!' ” But R’s consumption hardly stops there. In the song, he also brags of a “thousand dollar” bar tab, concluding, “I need another shot of that Bacardi” -- recklessly ignoring the inevitability of a hangover such booze mixing will provoke. “Maldito Alcohol” – Pitbull Reggaeton was no stranger to hip-hop’s reigning dipsomania. Exhibit A: Boriquan rapper Pitbull spitting lyrics (in Spanish) such as “I don’t want water / I want a drink”. . . “Damn alcohol, sweet torment / Give me a drink on the rocks.” “Wasted” – Gucci Mane “Party, party, party, let’s all get wasted,” the rapper exhorts on this hit single. “Shake it for me baby girl, do it butt naked / I’m so wasted, she so wasted / Tell the bartender send me 20 more cases.” The discrete charms of this hit single don’t end with the incontrovertible logic of its chorus, however. Mane also presumes the intoxication of certain notorious pop divas, mentioning that the booze has got him “geeking like Whitney and Britney.” “Patrón Tequila” – the Paradiso Girls featuring Lil Jon We can all agree that Crunkmeister Lil Jon was the man behind this year’s most unabashedly pro-booze music. On this paean to rap’s preferred tipple, though, the Paradiso Girls make vocal a silken threat: “By the end of the night, I’mma have you drunk and throwin’ up.” “One More Drink” – Ludacris An unapologetic ode to putting on one’s “beer goggles,” “One More Drink’s” narrative drama revolves around the ramifications of Luda having that proverbial one too many. Drunk driving and bedding ugly women ensues: “Surrendered to the woman / And her bringin’ me home / Because she looked better / Every shot of Patrón.” “I’m So Gone (Patrón)” – Chamillionaire featuring Bobby Valentino Chamilly and Bobby Valentino go for the obvious couplet here, rhyming “I’m poppin’ bottles of Patrón” with “all night long.” For the rapper, it’s clear that alcohol provides a palliative for his worldly concerns. “I’mma wash my problems away,” Chamillionaire raps. “Tonight I need a drank.” R&B Lothario Valentino, meanwhile, announces that he doesn’t usually drink but admits he’s “gone” -- read: wasted -- from drinking a mixture of tequila and rose wine. NY Daily News Reports Suspect Says Of The Murders, "Jesus Told Me To Do It" FARMVILLE, Va. — Richard Alden Samuel McCroskey III rapped about the thrill of murder in songs he posted on the Internet. Police believe the fantasy lyrics became a gruesome reality in a small Virginia college town. McCroskey, 20, was being held Sunday in the killings of four people who were found at a Longwood University professor's home near campus in Farmville, which is about 50 miles west of Richmond. McCroskey, of Castro Valley, Calif., faces charges of first-degree murder, robbery and grand larceny of an automobile, said Farmville police Capt. Wade Stimpson. The aspiring rapper in the underground horrorcore genre, which sets violent lyrics to hip-hop beats, was arrested Saturday at a Richmond airport, where authorities believe he was trying to catch a flight back to California. Officers found McCroskey asleep in the baggage claim area.

Who was killed along with her ex husband,her daughter Emma and Emma's friend Melanie Wells. McCroskey recorded songs that spoke of death, murder and mutilation under the name Syko Sam. His MySpace Web page said he has only been rapping for a few months but has been a fan for years of the horrorcore genre. "You're not the first, just to let you know. I've killed many people and I kill them real slow. It's the best feeling, watching their last breath. Stabbing and stabbing till there's nothing left," McCroskey sings in "My Dark Side." A friend who owns a small, independent record label that specializes in horrorcore confirmed the site and the songs were McCroskey's. Andres Shrim, who owns Serial Killin Records in New Mexico, said others shouldn't judge McCroskey by what they see on his Web site or hear in his music. Describing McCroskey as a "great kid," Shrim said he has known him for at least two years, and he last saw him Sept. 12 at an all-day music festival in South Gate, Mich. "You would never, ever imagine that kid even being a suspect," Shrim said. "If he is found to be guilty, I would be 100 percent shocked." Shrim said even though horrorcore focuses on murder and other morbid subjects, performers and fans shouldn't be labeled violent. "People get the impression we're these twisted, sick individuals and we don't have hearts and we just want to talk about murder and the devil," said Shrim, who performs himself under the name SickTanicK. "But we just want to express that other side of life." On his Web page, McCroskey posted videos and pictures of a grave where a cross and miniature American flags had been turned upside down. "We defiled the grave, and then lightning struck seconds ago. I think we were being warned," he says in the video, laughing. In the photos, the gravestone identifies the person buried there as a Marine. McCroskey was scheduled to appear Monday in court, when he can either hire an attorney or have one appointed.

Longwood, a school of about 4,500 students, did not issue an alert after the bodies were discovered because it happened off campus, Caldwell said. She said the small town was unaccustomed to such violence. "Not only on campus, but even in Farmville — it just doesn't happen here," she said.

Truth And Lies About Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger And Alleged Rape Victim Andrea McNulty

New York Daily News Reports The complaint was filed more than a week ago in the Second Judicial District Court in Nevada, County of Washoe. The plaintiff is a woman named Andrea McNulty and the Case No. is CV0902222 and her complaint includes a lot of names, but the one that matters is the one in the headlines, and that is Ben Roethlisberger. He is a big guy and one of the biggest stars in sports right now because he has won two Super Bowls for the Pittsburgh Steelers and won the last one with one of the most famous throws and endings in Super Bowl history. Ms. McNulty, a former casino hotel hostess at the Harrah's in Lake Tahoe, charges in a civil complaint that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her in his hotel room last July while in Lake Tahoe to play in a celebrity golf tournament. Roethlisberger has vigorously denied this. The police aren't investigating because McNulty has only filed a civil complaint against Roethlisberger and not a criminal complaint.

Andrea McNulty But we are back in a hotel room with a famous athlete and a young woman. Just because McNulty has made this charge against Roethlisberger doesn't mean he laid a hand on her. And just because Roethlisberger is a star championship quarterback for an iconic football team doesn't mean he is innocent. People have a right to wonder why McNulty waited a year to come forward, the same way people wondered why a New York City woman once waited a year to accuse three New York Mets of raping her in Florida during spring training. They have a right to wonder why when she did come forward, she went straight to a civil suit, asking for financial damages from Roethlisberger and the hotel from which she is now on paid leave. But these stories are never neat and simple. Sometimes they never get past the original headlines and that is what might happen here. Of course Roethlisberger's story is simple and direct: She made it up, he didn't do it, he's never done anything like this in his life. McNulty's story? It is in the 36 pages of Case No. CV0902222 and you at least ought to read it before you decide if she made the whole thing up, before you decide it can't possibly be true because she waited so long to file it, that she is nothing more than a troubled woman looking to make a big score off Big Ben, football hero. What McNulty alleges: That on Friday night, July 11, 2008, she was at her post on the 17th floor of the Penthouse floor at Harrah's. That Roethlisberger returned to his room with another young woman, who left 20 minutes later. That Roethlisberger, after walking the first woman to the elevator, mentioned to McNulty that the sound system on his TV set wasn't working. Roethlisberger called back, said the set still wasn't working. McNulty called her boss, couldn't reach her, couldn't reach anybody in engineering. Roethlisberger called again. McNulty, mindful of Roethlisberger being a friend of Harrah's Northern Nevada president John Koster, went to Roethlisberger's suite, got shown that the set was in the bedroom, said she found no problem with the television set. Her version of what happened next: Roethlisberger wouldn't let her leave, grabbed her and started to kiss her, pushed her onto the bed. She said, "You don't want to do this" and "Please don't" and "I'm not on any type of birth control." And then forced sex on her. McNulty alleges that Roethlisberger asked if there were cameras on the room, told her to just say she had fixed the television and left. In her telling, the story doesn't get much better from there. McNulty said that the next morning when she told a man named Guy Hyder, the chief of security at the hotel and someone also named in her complaint, Hyder told her she was "overreacting" and that most "girls" would feel lucky to have sex with someone like Roethlisberger. The rest of it is about McNulty being treated several times for anxiety and depression, at Reno Renown Hospital, at West Hills, another facility, finally a care facility in Napa Valley while on a family medical leave. She says that much later, when she asked Hyder if he remembered their conversation the morning after the alleged incident, Hyder said he just assumed it was a "date rape thing." McNulty kept going to her employers instead of the police and when she finally feared "reprisal" and "termination," she filed her complaint against Roethlisberger and Koster and Hyder and others. So McNulty is a troubled woman looking for money, one who will have a world of trouble convincing a judge and jury that she is telling the truth, even though she never went to the cops. Or she is a woman who was sexually assaulted by a star athlete and then abused in a different way by her employers. She is lying or Roethlisberger is lying. Whether it is Harrah's in Tahoe or the Canterbury in Indianapolis with Mike Tyson or Kobe Bryant in Colorado, we always end up in the exact same place: One hotel room, two people who know what really happened. But before anybody automatically assumes that Roethlisberger is the victim here, they ought to at least read her side of things, her version of what happened that night on the 17th floor. And what she says happened after that.
