Doing the 'D' proud, TV/film actor and rapper, Page Kennedy, rounds up fellow Motor City cohorts, Royce da 5'9 and Denaun (Mr Porter), as well as King Los and drops a feisty follow-up to last week's mumble rap diss, "No Offense." "Testing Me", which appears on Page's upcoming March release, "Torn Pages", is meant to serve as a warning shot to any that would come up against these veterans of the battle rap scene.
As Page himself explains it, "Testing Me is a lyrical combat song. It's designed to flex creative and lyrical skill. Since all the rappers involved come from a battling background we thought it would be fun to have this competitive lyrical onslaught. In other words "this is what will happen to anyone that Test Me."
"Torn Pages" also features Elzhi, Kxng Crooked, Kuniva and Marsha Ambrosius and drops March 10th via Empire Distribution.

KXNG CROOKED REMARKS...
“I took all my anger and disappointment in current events and transformed it into art,” Crooked said of the upcoming project. “I designed an alternate reality where politicians are puppets controlled by ‘The Puppet Master’ and police are A.I. robots programmed to kill lower class citizens. Sounds familiar, but in this ‘Planet X’ reality the poor citizens create a movement and ‘Shoot Back.’

In his youth Royce Da 5'9" used to play basketball and would find himself in a number of altercations with other players. These days he tends to stay out of trouble, but admits things got heavy as he entered the rap world. "It was actually repercussions to your words back then," he explained. "If you said you was gonna punch somebody in the face when you seen him, you have to punch him in the face when you see him. Now it's like taboo to be hands-on."
Royce then went on to say "as a OG you gotta learn how to ignore things," which led into him and Eminem's short-lived beef with Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, the Creator. "If they run into me they don't have nothing to worry about," he said of the situation today. Shortly after Royce Da 5'9" spoke on Troy Ave's remarks on Capital Steez's suicide, telling DJ Vlad "I personally feel like when you're talking about an emcee battle there are boundaries and lines that you probably shouldn't cross - just for karma reasons...He's gonna probably regret saying that."
Watch as Royce names his top five favorite diss tracks and comments on how 50 "birthed" the behavior of responding to rappers with memes.

One of hip hop's bar-for-bar best emcees, Royce Da 5'9, recently chopped it up with Vlad TV. During their chat the subject of ghostwriting came up.
Nickel Nine talked about writing "The Message" for Dr. Dre at 19, learning how to re-write while penning "Tell Me" for Diddy and explained why in his opinion Drake can't be considered on of today's top lyricists.
"It's a newer way of creating," Royce said. "I guess hip hop is evolving slower than other genres. And if this is what it is evolving into ... as a OG I accept it. It's my decision whether I choose to work like that or not. I choose not to work like that. It's a certain fulfillment that I get out of writing myself. But I do understand going out partying. Staying in tune with that's going on outside the booth while other people are working in the studio. Then you come back and you A&R the whole shit, produce the whole song. That's still a beast. That's a beastly ass way of working. I just get fulfillment out of writing.
I think automatically the rules have to change a little bit when you talk about ranking these artists. Where they stand as far as best lyricist. You still gotta put 'em in there as best artist. Because you're still a great artist by pulling songs together that way," he continued. "You can't take that away from 'em. But when you're talking about best lyricist ... I guess it comes down to what being a great lyricist means to you. To me a lyricist is a writer. The word lyricist and writing go hand in hand to me. You automatically can't be top tier lyricist if you're not writing everything. I'm not gonna compare you to Rakim. I'll call you the greatest of this era. And I want says that you're better than Rakim, and I won't say that you're better than Kendrick, and I won't say you're better than Cole, as a lyricist."
When asked if having a ghostwriter knocked Drake out of the best lyricist category Royce replied. "it has to, it's only fair."
What do you think about Royce's comments?

Royce 5'9 (formerly stylized as Royce da 5’9”) is preparing to release his first solo album since 2011's "Success Is Certain." The new project is titled "Layers." It will be executive produced by Royce and Mr. Porter. The release date is set for April 15th.
“This album was the first album that I spent a lot of time putting it together as a complete thought,” he says in a press release via Complex. “Most of my albums reflect an emotion based off of my feelings. Death Is Certain was dark because of everything I was going through; this album reflects my emotion, but also my thoughts. I've learned a lot from being a part of B.M.E, Slaughterhouse and PRhyme and I've had the opportunity to use all of those experiences to better myself as artist, so it's very exciting to see how those experiences will affect my career.”
To introduce the project, Royce does what we've all come to expect from him ... spit bars in an a capella freestyle video (https://youtu.be/CL8vf5jkptE)
