LA Times Reports Two Los Angeles police officers have been placed on paid leave as part of an ongoing investigation into how a photo showing the battered face of Rihanna appeared on a celebrity website after the singer was assaulted by her former boyfriend Chris Brown, four law enforcement sources familiar with the case told The Times. The night before the Grammy Awards in February, Rihanna argued with Brown, who bit, punched and choked the singer in a rented Lamborghini in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles, leaving her bruised and bloodied, police said. Two weeks later, a photo of Rihanna that showed those injuries appeared on the entertainment gossip website TMZ.com. The sources confirmed that the investigation is focused on at least two officers.

One of the officers, identified by sources as Rebecca M. Reyes, is a nine-year veteran of the department and was last assigned to the Wilshire Division. Her attorney told The Times that a search warrant in connection with the leak investigation had been served on her Los Angeles home. The other, Blanca Lopez, is a rookie officer with the Hollenbeck Division and was a housemate of Reyes, according to sources, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because it was an ongoing investigation. Both have been “assigned to home” pending the outcome of the probe, according to the sources who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about the investigation. Attorney Ira Salzman, who is representing Reyes, confirmed that the LAPD assigned his client to home during the Rihanna photo investigation but said his client had done nothing illegal and that department officials had not yet presented any formal allegations against her. Salzman, who described his client as a decorated officer, would not comment on whether Reyes had taken the picture of Rihanna or had at any time possessed it. “My client did not do anything for financial gain,” Salzman said. “She did not sell the photo.” Robert Rico, the attorney for Officer Lopez, declined to comment on the investigation. LAPD officials also declined to discuss their investigation, including who took the photograph, how it came into the possession of TMZ.com and how much, if any, money may have paid to the officers or associates for the image. Also was unclear whether the image that was posted on the site was taken with a personal phone or with department-issued photographic equipment. LAPD spokesman Lt. John Romero described the investigation as “a personnel matter” and said, “We are investigating vigorously.” Romero said the department would not comment on whether any officers have been assigned to home. A state law that went into effect this year makes it a misdemeanor for peace officers or law enforcement employees to profit by leaking confidential reports or images. In addition, the LAPD also has adopted strict rules about recording still or video images at crime scenes, which they made more explicit last year after a series of celebrity-related arrests in which details, and even images, appeared on celebrity and gossip websites. Donald Etra, the attorney for Rihanna, whose real is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, said Thursday that he was pleased that police had gotten to the bottom of the case. He said that no victim should have to worry about such photographs being leaked. He also noted that his client had “nothing but praise for the LAPD.”

NY Daily News Reports A serious of egregious errors resulted in the deaths of two people, after medical staff released a mentally ill convicted killer from the mental health center where he was living. Peter Bryan, a schizophrenic, cannibal and convicted murderer was released from the medium-security Riverside House to a hostel where he was free to come and go, according to an article in the British paper, the Telegraph. Merely three hours after his discharge from the facility in 2004, he killed Brian Cherry, a friend, and cooked part of his brain, the paper stated. After that murder, Bryan was sent to Broadmore secure hospital, where not even 10 days later he attacked and killed Richard Loudwell, a fellow patient. Two inquiries into Bryan's case faulted National Health Service managers for leaving the now 39-year-old killer in the care of a social worker with no mental health training and who was in over his head dealing with a notoriously manipulative patient, according to the London Evening Standard. However, the reports noted that the nature of his condition meant that Bryan was incredibly manipulative, and able to appear normal even as his mental health was incredibly deteriorated. The reports "outlined a catalogue of errors" according to the Telegraph, in the treatment of Bryan following his 1993 murder of Nisha Sheth, a shop assistant whom he beat to death with a hammer.

Kevin Fujioka Las Vegas Sun Reports Authorities said two Honolulu police officers who fled from Clark County Park Police were arrested on drug possession charges this past weekend at a police softball tournament. Park police officers entered Desert Breeze Park, at Durango Drive and Spring Mountain Road, at 8:15 p.m. Saturday and spotted a white van parked across two spaces illegally, Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said. As officers approached the van, it took off and two men got out and started running across the park, Welling said. Park police arrested 37-year-old Kevin Fujioka, the driver of the van, and charged him with driving under the influence of narcotics and possession of marijuana, Welling said. Police also arrested 47-year-old Shayne Souza for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a police officer and obstructing a police officer, Welling said. Both Fujioka and Souza are police officers in Honolulu.

Shayne Souza In the course of the arrest, park police had to spray Souza with pepper because he resisted arrest, Welling said. A third man, 38-year-old Scott Wilson, a Honolulu social worker, was also arrested for possessing marijuana and having an open container of alcohol in the van, Welling said. The three men were attending a softball tournament in Las Vegas sponsored by the Nevada Police Athletic Association.

Atlanta Journal Constitution Reports Two DeKalb County Officers are being investigated for allegedly performing a background check on President Barack Obama Officers Ryan White and C.M. Route have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to DeKalb County spokeswoman Sheila Edwards. Edwards said the two patrol officers have been with the department for about two years. The incident occurred on July 20, according to DeKalb County officials. The United States Secret Service notified county officials that DeKalb County computer equipment was utilized to do a query on the President. Edwards said the background check was run using a computer mounted in a patrol car. Such behavior, said William “Miz” Miller, DeKalb Public Safety director, is not to be tolerated. “As Public Safety Director for DeKalb County, I want everyone to know that we take these allegations very seriously,” he said in a statement. “We expect our officers to adhere to professional standards and departmental policy. Furthermore, we do not and will not condone the inappropriate use of county equipment or resources.” The county’s Internal Affairs division is handling the official investigation.

Jon Favreau unveiled eye-popping "Iron Man 2" footage at Comic-Con on Saturday that included the metal superhero soaring through the sky, Mickey Rourke's baddie brandishing electric whips, and War Machine unleashing a one-man offensive. Its greatest tease, however, may have been the simplest one: Scarlett Johansson is a black leather catsuit. We caught up with the beauty moments after she left the stage at Hall H to discuss her ass-kicking enigma Black Widow. "Whose side is she fighting on? I don't know," Johansson said cryptically, following Favreau's lead in playing off the character's good and bad personas in the comics, while saying she's neither a superhero nor a supervillain. "I think you've just got to call me a super shape-shifter, I suppose. "I'm kicking some major ass — so I would say 'major' is the amount of ass I kick," laughed Johansson, who endured months of blood, sweat and egg-white omelettes to pull off the role of the femme fatale and do all her own stunts. "Whose ass do I kick?" she grinned, choosing her words carefully. "Well, you're just going to have to wait and see. You don't really want to know, do you?" Oh, we guess not. But still, we were eager to hear about her favorite "Iron Man 2" scene. "Well, I have to say all my stunt sequences, because those are the ones I know best," she reasoned. "I've got to fight for them. I've got to be my own cheerleader. So, all the Black Widow sequences, of course." Finally, we couldn't resist asking one question about her own personal superhero: hubby Ryan Reynolds. Now that he's playing both the Green Lantern and Deadpool, and she's Black Widow, are there any superhero rivalries going on at home? "[Our characters are] living in two completely different universes," she grinned, insisting that there won't be a "Deadpool vs. Widow" movie any time soon. "Never the two shall meet, I would say." AllHipHop Reports Fresh off the positive reception of All In a Day’s Work, Saigon has confirmed with AllHipHop.com the release of Warning Shots 2. Working again with label Amalgam Digital, the project will be marketed as a full-length album distributed through CD and digital formats. Saigon’s previous 2009 LP, the Statik Selektah collaboration All In a Day’s Work, was recorded in 24 hours and released in just a week. With the funds for traditional promotional campaigns shrinking, Saigon feels his recent projects offer a blueprint for artists on how to break the divide between mixtapes and albums. “I’m enjoying my experience with Amalgam Digital and being creative to give music to my fans without all the bullsh*t,” Saigon explained to AllHipHop.com. “It’s a new way of thinking and it feels good to partner with an innovative company that’s ahead of its curve. I’m excited to get this album out!” Saigon’s recent explosion of work is the result of a recommitment to his career following years of stagnation on Atlantic Records, where he remained under contract from 2004-2008. Warning Shots 2 features an array of guests in Grand Puba (“Who Can Get Busy”), Lil Fame of MOP (“Rusy Gunz”), Ransom (“F*ck Me, F*ck You”), Quan, and O.J. Da Juiceman (“For Some P*ssy”). CNN Reports A gunman wearing "priest clothing" sparked a shootout with police in Jersey City, New Jersey, early Thursday that ended with five officers wounded and the shooter and another suspect dead, authorities said. Two of the officers sustained serious injuries, officials said. The shootings began around 5 a.m. as two officers monitored a vehicle suspected of being involved in a recent armed robbery. When a man went to the car, police approached him. The man, dressed in what Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy described as "priest clothing," pulled out a shotgun and fired, grazing one officer in the leg, authorities said. The suspect then fled and holed up in a nearby apartment, apparently with another person, Police Chief Thomas Comey told reporters at a news conference. Police called in backup, including officers from the Port Authority, and evacuated other residents of the building. As they moved in for a tactical entry into the apartment, they were met with gunfire, officials said. Four more officers were wounded and the two suspects were killed in an exchange of gunfire there. One suspect was "ready to go to war" in the way he was armed, Comey said. "This individual came fully ready to go to war with us," the chief said at a news conference. "This is not a normal shotgun ... and he decided to put these cops under fire." Watch chief describe suspect "ready for war" » Of the five officers wounded, one has been released from the hospital, while the officers who sustained critical injuries have been stabilized and were undergoing surgery, according to Dr. Nathaniel Holmes, Chief of Surgery of Jersey City Medical Center.

Police are expected to bring charges against the owner of a pet python that strangled a 2-year-old Florida girl in her crib, killing her. A Sumter County Sheriffs employee, who is not authorized to speak about the case, told FOXNews.com that charges are coming but wouldn't elaborate because investigators still are working on the specifics. Shaiunna Hare died early Wednesday morning after being attacked by the snake, which belonged to her mother's boyfriend and escaped from its aquarium, deputies said. The little girl was killed by the 8-foot, 5-inch Burmese python as she slept after it got out of its tank in another room of the house, according to Sumter County Sheriffs Lt. Bobby Caruthers. The aquarium didn't have a lock as required by law, he told FOX News Thursday. Jaren Ashley Hare, 21, and Shaiunna shared the central Florida home with Hare's boyfriend, 32-year-old Charles Jason Darnell, and his children. Caruthers told FOX that Darnell may face charges for not having a permit for the python. Deputies say Darnell did not have the $100 permit required to own a python in Florida, which is a second-degree misdemeanor. He also could be charged with child endangerment, child neglect or even manslaughter or homicide, according to Caruthers. Darnell told investigators that he put the snake in a bag inside its aquarium Tuesday night. But when he woke up Wednesday morning, he said, the snake was gone. He found it wrapped around the girl in her crib. Darnell stabbed the snake repeatedly to free the little girl, but the toddler already had been strangled. The snake also bit her on the head, the station reported. He called 911 after he pried the python away from the child. "The baby's dead!" a sobbing caller from the house screamed to a 911 dispatcher in tapes released by police. "Our stupid snake got out in the middle of the night and strangled the baby!" Authorities did not identify the caller and removed the person's name from the recording. "She got out of the cage last night and got into the baby's crib and strangled her to death," the caller says in the tape. Click here for photos. Paramedics said the little girl was dead when they arrived at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the house in Oxford, about 50 miles northwest of Orlando. Two other children also were in the house at the time but were not hurt, according to WTVT. The pet already had escaped once earlier that night, Caruthers told FOX News. Authorities removed the snake Wednesday from the small house, bordered by cow pastures, after obtaining a search warrant. Once outside, the python was placed in a bag, which was put inside a dog crate. It was still alive. Hare and Darnell were taken to the police station for questioning. "They are very distraught," Caruthers told WTVT, adding that the two have been "very cooperative." Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation spokeswoman Joy Hill said the snake will be placed with someone who has a permit, pending an investigation into the girl's death. Hill said her department is unaware of a non-venomous snake ever before killing a human in Florida. "This could be a first for the state," she told the station. Burmese pythons are not native to Florida, but they easily survive in the state and can reach a length of 26 feet and weigh more than 200 pounds. Some owners have freed pythons into the wild and a population of them has taken hold in the Everglades. One killed an alligator and then burst when it tried to eat it. Scientists also speculate a bevy of Burmese pythons escaped in 1992 from pet shops battered by Hurricane Andrew and have been reproducing since. "It's becoming more and more of a problem, perhaps no fault of the animal, more a fault of the human," said Jorge Pino, a state wildlife commission spokesman. "People purchase these animals when they're small. When they grow, they either can't control them or release them." George Van Horn, owner of Reptile World Serpentarium in St. Cloud, said the strangulation could have occurred because the snake felt threatened or because it thought the child was food. "They are always operating on instinct," he said. "Even the largest person can become overpowered by a python." Source :FoxNews
