Video After The Jump

In this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with rapper, actor and West Coast legend MC Eiht. Being a veteran and pioneer of the Gangsta Rap genre, as well as someone who was fully immersed in the lifestyle that he portrays on wax, Eiht has a deeply authentic story to tell. To kick things off, they discuss how Eiht got turned onto gang life at such a young age, the sensationalizing of gang-banging, and how the sets have evolved since he was active. Eiht also digs into his famous, long-standing beef with DJ Quik, and how they finally reconciled.

Later, Eiht speaks on his mindset when he penned two of his most acclaimed records appearing on soundtracks for 'Boyz N The Hood' and 'Menace II Society.' He talks about landing the role of A-Wax in 'Menace', ad-libbing most of his lines, the double-edged sword of filming authentic hood movies, and Tupac's casting call in 'Menace.' The Pac stories continue with his firing and Eiht gives his account as to why the rapper got involved in the gangster lifestyle at the height of his success. Kweli also asks about Eiht's voice acting work in 'Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas,' his short-lived group Warzone, and his friendships with DJ Premier and the Wu-Tang Clan.

Finally, Eiht offers advice to kids growing up in the projects with feelings of hopelessness and no way out.

Interview timing:

3:47 -- Eiht speaks on how he's been able to transcended genres, attaining bi-coastal respect through diverse sample selection and vivid storytelling.

8:40 -- Eiht discusses how he ended up in gang culture. He goes into the romanticization of gang life through rap, movies, and media, how much more dangerous it was during his day, and the evolution of the sets becoming more unified and less violent.

14:22 -- Eiht talks about his reconciliation with DJ Quik over their long-standing beef. They also discuss remaining true and authentic to their roots while transitioning to music that reflects their lives today.

19:40 -- Eiht explains how his name was inspired by KRS-One, he reveals when he started with his trademark phrase "Geah", breaks down what went into the making of his classic song "Growin' Up In The Hood", touches on the legacy of John Singleton, and inner-city youth choosing the hustler life by means of necessity.

29:14 -- Eiht explains the timeless relevance of his "wake yo punk ass up" signature intro that he used on 'Growin' Up In The Hood', 'Streiht Up Menace', and Kendrick Lamar's 'M.A.A.D. City'.

35:07 -- Eiht frames how he landed the role of A-Wax in 'Menace II Society', and the Hughes Brothers allowing him to ad-lib the majority of his script. They also discuss the double-edged sword of keeping it real in film by shooting these movies in real hoods, with real gangsters, as well as the risks involved when reaching success, while still keeping an outstretched hand to those you grew up with.

46:10 -- Eiht talks about how Tupac originally had the role of Sharif in 'Menace II Society.' and why he was fired from the set. He also gives his take on Tupac's connection with gang life, seeing that as a step back, as someone that had already made it through the struggle.

54:31 -- Eiht talks about his experience voice-over acting as the character "Ryder" in the video game "GTA - San Andreas".

58:24 -- Eiht speaks on Warzone -- a group put together by Snoop Dogg consisting of Goldie Loc, MC Eiht, and Kam. Eiht and Talib also discuss their mutual long-time friendships with DJ Premier.

1:04:23 -- Eiht talks about his friendships with members of Wu-Tang, and linking up with Ol' Dirty Bastard to be featured on his remix for "Shimmy Shimmy Ya".

1:06:04 -- Talib asks Eiht what advice he would have for a kid growing up in Compton with some of the same feelings of hopelessness he felt as a youth.

1:10:10 -- Talib asks Eiht to envision where his character A-Wax's life might be present day.

Video After The Jump

The time has come amid a growing global pandemic to talk about something we've all been expecting, but haven't quite seen 'til now ... a bloodbath over wiping our asses.

Yes, we're referring to toilet paper, folks -- specifically, the fact people seem to have lost their minds about stocking up on a 6-pack, 12-pack, 24-pack or in many cases ... 30-packs from Costco. You've probably been seeing photos online, but now ... there's gnarly video too.

Here's a clip someone captured from what's been said to be somewhere in Australia, where two women literally came to blows in a grocery store aisle over a pack of poop wipes. It's pretty insane -- there's screaming, punching, scratching and then face-to-face insults.

Eventually, the store employees step in and break it up ... but not before the woman who was apparently left ply-less demanded (begged?) for just one pack of toilet paper from the mother-daughter duo who swept the place and filled their own cart with several loads.

There've been other in-aisle confrontations caught on video, but none got as rowdy as this one. It appears people in different parts of the world are panicking over the coronavirus -- and it would seem having an arsenal of perforated protection is absolutely essential.

Doesn't seem Americans are quite there yet, but with the number of confirmed cases growing daily here ... it's probably only a matter of time before you're getting socked over a crucial bundle of Charmin Ultra Soft. There's just not a square to spare, evidently.

Video After The Jump

A Hays County woman who killed her 5-year-old daughter after stabbing her multiple times in 2017 has been sentenced.

Krystle Concepcion Villanueva, 27, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday after a two-week trial.

She was arrested in January 2017 after she told police she killed her daughter because she “asked for cereal,” according to the Hays County District Attorney’s Office. She also attacked the grandfather of the child from behind and stabbed him.

The grandfather fled and told police Villanueva was still in the house with the child, prompting a response from SWAT team members and crisis negotiators.

SWAT entered the house and found the child decapitated and stabbed in a bedroom, the DA’s office said.

Villanueva, who was naked in a front room, was taken into custody on site. The DA’s office said blood testing revealed she had alcohol and marijuana in her system.

Defense attorneys argued Villanueva attacked the child and man because of delusions and asked the jury to not find her guilty by reason of insanity.

Evidence showed that she has been previously treated for mental issues, the DA’s office said.

Prosecutors said treatment coincided with drug use, and she had not shown the symptoms she described since her arrest.

The jury rejected an insanity defense.

“Every law enforcement member who worked on this case will forever be traumatized by what Ms. Villanueva did to her innocent daughter," Hays County Criminal District Attorney Wes Mau said in a news release.

She also received a sentence of 20 years for aggravated assault on the grandfather.

DaBaby brutally assaulted a fan Saturday night as he made his way to the stage, and the crowd was so enraged at him the show ended before it began.

The rapper was at Whiskey North in Tampa for his "Up Close N Personal" tour when a woman waved her phone in his direction, presumably to get a pic. Check out the video ... you see DaBaby unload on her.

Folks at the concert tell TMZ ... after the initial shock subsided, the crowd started booing the rapper. DaBaby and his crew left without performing a single song.

He went on his Instagram story to share a video of the incident, saying, "who know shawty government name so my lawyer can get active."

Cops showed up -- responding to a 911 assault call -- but no arrests were made.

DaBaby's had his share of problems recently. He was recently accused of beating up and robbing a guy in Miami. The battery charges were dropped but he's still under the microscope for robbery -- he allegedly jacked the guy's cellphone, credit card and cash.

Video After The Jump

LeBron James says he'll be parking it if the NBA bans fans from the games amid growing fears of the coronavirus -- which might become a reality sooner than later.

LBJ said it clear as day to reporters in the locker room Friday night after his and the Lakers' thunderous win over the Milwaukee Bucks in L.A. -- explaining it quite plainly like this, "We play games without the fans? Nah, it's impossible. He added, "I ain't playing!"

His comments come after a reported league memo was sent around to all teams Friday, which told them to prepare for the possibility of having fan-less games in the near future because of the rapidly growing pandemic, which has already spread to several states in the U.S.

The King went on to say he plays the game for the fans specifically, and says if they're not in the building ... he doesn't see a point in stepping out on the court. It sounds like he might be joking, but also ... he very well might not be. It'd be an interesting situation for sure.

Fact is ... the playoffs are happening soon, and the Lakers just clinched a spot for the first time since 2013. And with LeBron at the helm -- and after missing last year's playoffs -- folks would absolutely tune in now ... on TV, we suppose, and not in person if this comes to pass.

Not only that, but Bron is KILLING it this year ... he's in the running for regular-season MVP, so if he just cut all that short and said screw it -- things could potentially turn ugly.

LeBron is one of those guys with enough clout and influence that he could potentially get away with something like that, but our gut's telling us Adam Silver wouldn't let it slide without putting up a fight and lobbying the superstar for the sake of precious ratings.

Here comes TFW coronavirus starts messing with your regular sports programming.

Goodbye, South by Southwest.

On Friday, officials announced the 2020 SXSW festival will be canceled amid growing fears over the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, reports Dallas News.

The annual Austin, Texas festival was slated to run from March 13-22.

SXSW organizers previously said the festival would still take place.

“We are devastated to share this news with you,” conference organizers wrote in a statement on the SXSW website. ” ‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.”

Austin mayor Steve Adler said during a press conference that he issued an order canceling the conference and declared a local disaster in the city, according to CNBC. However, there are no confirmed cases in Austin.

The cancellation comes after several high-profile artists, comedians and brands began dropping out of the festival over coronavirus concerns. Apple and Netflix were among two companies that pulled out Thursday, along with Facebook, Intel and Twitter.

Beastie Boys, Trent Reznor and Ozzy Osbourne, who recently revealed he has Parkinson’s disease, also bailed on the festival.

The move to cancel SXSW comes after more than 200 cases of coronavirus were confirmed across the nation. Globally, more than 100,000 have been infected with the flu-like disease. In New York state, the total number of cases is now 33 and over 4,000 people are quarantined as a precaution.

Coronavirus could explode in the nation's jails as inmates are squeezed in like sardines in filth.

TMZ has contacted various jails, including L.A. County Men's Jail as well as jails in San Francisco and New York. They all say they are wiping down surfaces at least daily and ramping up sanitation efforts.

Tell that to Jose Abalos, who just got out of L.A. County Men's Jail for "regular carjacking." He says he was placed in a cell that had not been cleaned from the previous inmate and it was disgusting ... it smelled like urine. He left Friday morning with a cough and wheezing. He says the jail gave him meds but he's worried and is going to a doctor.

Abalos also said no one from the jail told the inmates anything about coronavirus or how to prevent it.

Another inmate, Arturo, also was released from L.A. County Men's Jail Friday morning, and he says there was blood and fecal matter on the walls and says the place was dirty and disgusting. He says he had one shower in 20 days.

Officials at L.A. County Men's Jail tell TMZ they are screening inmates for the virus ... although some of the inmates we spoke with say that's news to them.
