Video After The Jump

A judge in Madison, Wisconsin, has set $1 million bail for two teenagers charged with the execution-style murders of a respected doctor and an education coach.

During the early morning hours of March 31, two joggers came upon the bodies of Dr. Beth Potter and her husband, Robin Carre, lying off the roadway in the University of Wisconsin Arboretum and covered in blood, police said. A witness told the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department that they had heard a series of gunshots after 11 p.m. the night before.

Carre, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene as Potter, 52, was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died. Both were shot in the head and were left for dead in their house clothes with no shoes, according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators conducted several interviews that led them to arrest and charge Khari Sanford, the boyfriend of the couple's adopted daughter, and Sanford's friend Ali'Jah Larrue with two counts of first-degree murder. Sanford and Larrue made their court appearance on Tuesday via video conference, where a plea was not entered for the felony charges.

The day before the couple was murdered, Potter confided in a friend that they had moved her adopted daughter, Miriam Potter Carre, and Sanford into an Airbnb because they weren't abiding by the rules of COVID-19 social distancing, according to the criminal complaint.

Potter, a doctor at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, had a greater risk of infection because of medications she was taking, and she was concerned about the teenagers going in and out of the house, the complaint said.

"You don’t care about me," Potter Carre allegedly told her mother as they were being moved out.

"Probably the most incriminating piece of evidence, which was statements Sanford made to a citizen witness identified in the criminal complaint, that he in fact did shoot the folks involved, and was concerned after hearing on the news that one of them was alive," attorney William Brown said.

Sanford and Larrue are each facing two first-degree intentional homicide-party to a crime charges.

Former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is accused in new court documents of paying and providing material support to an alleged gang member who is accused of murdering two men who shot Johnson and killed his friend, Dreekius Johnson, in 2015.

TMZ Sports reported Thursday that prosecutors allege Johnson paid Dominic Bolden and helped him become a leader in a drug trafficking organization.

An informant told Florida officials the former NFL player provided "funds and an individual who could continually supply Dominic Bolden with as much narcotics as needed to supply the DTO," per TMZ.

"There's no validity to any of these accusations," a representative for Johnson told TMZ.

He's not been formally charged with any crimes in the case.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection discussed the shooting that killed his friend on CBS Sports Radio in July 2015.

"It was a life-changing experience," Johnson, who was shot in the shoulder, said. "It showed you how to enjoy life and how to enjoy every day waking up. Because just as easily as it was one of my best friends that was sitting right next to me—the one that got killed—it easily could have been me. So these days, I'm just enjoying life and making sure I enjoy each day."

After six standout seasons with the Titans, the 2009 NFL Offensive Player of the Year spent one year with the New York Jets and three years with the Arizona Cardinals.

He last played in 2017 and signed a one-day contract to retire with Tennessee in 2019.

Former UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo will no longer be challenging Henry Cejudo for the promotions bantamweight title at UFC 250.

As reported by Combate, Aldo’s removal from the event stems from the Covid-19 pandemic which has forced the legend to remain in Brazil.

UFC 250 was originally slated to place in Aldo’s home nation, but the virus outbreak has forced the promotion to seek a new venue and location, likely on US soul.

Stepping in on short notice for Jose Aldo is none other than former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.

‘The Dominator’ has not competed inside the Octagon since losing the 135-pound strap to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 in December of 2016.

Although Cruz recently called for the Cejudo bout, the announcement is still shocking given Dominick’s long layoff.

Henry Cejudo (15-2 MMA) captured the promotions vacant bantamweight title at UFC 238 by defeating Marlon Moraes by way of TKO.

Philadelphia rapper Chynna Rogers, best known as Chynna, died Wednesday (April 8), her family confirmed through her management. “Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed,” the family wrote in a statement. Her cause of death is currently unknown. She was 25.

Chynna Rogers began her career as a model, signing with Ford Models when she was 14. She found a mentor in A$AP Yams as a teenager, and her affiliation with the A$AP Mob ignited her efforts to build a career as a rapper. She released her first singles in the early ’10s, finding online success quickly with 2013’s “Selfie” and 2014’s “Glen Coco.” She followed those with a few EPs, including 2015’s "I’m Not Here, This Isn’t Happening" and 2016’s "Music 2 Die 2." She later said her music was “for angry people with too much pride to show how angry they are.”

Rogers was open about the opiate addiction with which she struggled in the wake of her music taking off, addressing her troubles on her 2016 mixtape "Ninety." She released "Ninety" on her 22nd birthday that August, having accomplished three months of sobriety. She told Pitchfork in a 2018 Rising interview, “It got to the point where I had to do something just to be able to get onstage and do my job. I didn’t like that.” Her final release was December’s "in case i die first" EP.

Video After The Jump

An arrest in the Bronx, New York on Tuesday descended into chaos as cops lost control of the scene.

According to Pix 11, NYPD cops were arresting a robbery suspect when out of nowhere a man wearing a medical mask punched one of the officers from behind.

The officer attempted to tase that man, but appeared to miss as the man fled the scene as a crowd of people cheered.

While cops were giving chase an argument erupted at the original scene between a woman who appeared to know the robbery suspect and police.

The woman was shoved by an officer, then walked back towards him before he punches her in the face. She was then wrestled to the ground and arrested.

The NYPD said charges are pending on the woman and the man who attacked officers. The man initially taken into custody for the robbery also has charges pending.

Video After The Jump

A man wearing a medical face mask was caught on camera sucker-punching an NYPD officer in the Bronx Tuesday night as the cop’s partner was subduing a robbery suspect.

Nelson Jimenez, 31, launched his attack in front of a crowd of bystanders who had gathered on a sidewalk near 183rd Street and Davidson Avenue in University Heights to watch the arrest of 27-year-old robbery suspect Yoemdy Castro, law enforcement sources said.

One cop in the video can be seen holding Castro to the ground, while another stands nearby.

During the episode, Jimenez walks behind the standing officer, then socks him in the head, knocking off his winter cap, the video shows.

The officer who was struck immediately turns around and fires his Taser, but it’s unclear if it struck Jimenez.

Jimenez then runs away, with the cop close behind, the video shows.

Spectators can be heard cheering on the suspect, imploring the suspect to “run.”

Officers later caught and arrested Jimenez in a nearby bodega, law enforcement sources said. Charges against him are pending.

A second cop who responded to the fracas was also punched in the head in an off-camera incident, according to sources.

The suspect in that assault, Brandee Isom, 25, was arrested and charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration, sources said.

Video After The Jump

The COVID-19 crisis has shut down the nation. There are no sports, not even pick-up basketball games. There are no shopping trips. There are no dinners eaten at restaurants and movies seen in theaters.

It has wreaked havoc on the economy and left millions unemployed. Families who live paycheck to paycheck are now scrambling to pay bills with no idea when they’ll be able to work again.

It’s also impacting the finances of professional athletes at all levels. For those at the lower salary level, it is making a larger impact. And many are living close to a paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle, Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum told former NBA player Jay Williams on “The Boardroom.”

"I would say out of 450 players … 150 probably are living paycheck to paycheck," McCollum said.

McCollum, a vice president for the NBA players association, said some players are hurting since there could be a pay stoppage soon, and there will be a drop in the salary cap for next season due to lost revenues.

Though the average and median salaries for NBA players are in the millions and superstars sign for contracts of up to $40 million a season, per Basketball Reference, there are still players at the bottom of rosters who are making far less.

McCollum has advocated for being concerned about health rather than basketball right now. In an interview for The Athletic’s Hoops Adjacent podcast he ripped into NBA owners for not stepping up to take care of arena workers. Athletes such as Zion Williamson were the first to start donations to workers.

McCollum donated $170,000 to organizations in Portland, Oregon, and Canton, Ohio, last week for COVID-19 relief.
