WOLFE CITY, Texas (AP) — A white police officer has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Black man following a reported disturbance at a convenience store in a small East Texas town over the weekend, authorities said.

Jonathan Price was walking away from Wolfe City Police Officer Shaun Lucas when Lucas opened fire Saturday night, killing Price, the Texas Rangers said.

Lucas, 22, was booked Monday into the Hunt County Jail on Monday night, the Texas Rangers said in a statement released by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Jail records show bail was set at $1 million.

According to the statement, Lucas responded to a disturbance call on Saturday night following a report of a possible fight. He encountered Price, 31, who was reportedly involved in the disturbance, and Price “resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away,” the Texas Rangers said.

Lucas used a stun gun before shooting Price, who was taken to a hospital and died, the statement said.

Police didn’t release details about the disturbance, but family and friends of Price said Monday that the one-time college football player was intervening in a domestic disturbance when he was shot.

“When police arrived, I’m told, he raised his hands and attempted to explain what was going on,” said civil rights attorney Lee Merritt in a Facebook posting. “Police fired Tasers at him and when his body convulsed from the electrical current, they ‘perceived a threat’ and shot him to death.”

After Lucas’ arrest was announced, Merritt posted: “This didn’t happen quickly. It should (have) happened the day he murdered JP. John should still be here.”

Price’s relatives and friends said Price, a Wolfe City employee, was a figure well-known about the closely knit community. The town has about 1,500 residents about 70 miles (113 kilometers) northeast of Dallas.

Price played football in 2008 for Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. Hardin-Simmons football coach Jesse Burleson tweeted that the university “lost one of our own in a terrible situation. Jonathan Price was an awesome young man during his time with Cowboy football.”

Former Major League Baseball third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who grew up with Price, said on Facebook: “I’m sick. I’m heartbroken... and I’m furious.” Middlebrooks started an online fundraiser for Price’s family that surpassed its $50,000 goal in less than 24 hours.

Delonte West Is Progressing "OK" In Rehab

12353561686?profile=original

Delonte West is on the road to sobriety ... but it ain't easy.

Sources tell TMZ Sports the former NBA player is currently in the detox phase of his treatment -- which is known to be extremely difficult for people trying to clean themselves up.

As we previously reported, West entered a treatment facility last week with some help from his mother and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

We're told detox is Phase 1 -- the process of removing all traces of drugs and alcohol from Delonte's system.

Detox ain't exactly a walk in the park -- in fact, it's a pretty taxing process both physically and mentally.

West is undergoing the process under the supervision of professionals -- but it's still extremely tough.

One person close with West told us Delonte is "doing fine" while "roughing it out" in order to move on to the phase of his treatment.

After detox is complete, we're told West will move to a new location where his treatment will focus on mental health and long term sobriety programs.

Bottom line ... it's not an easy process. It's not quick either. But, the people we're talking with tell us they're happy with Delonte's progress so far and they're optimistic he can overcome his challenges.

As we previously reported, ex-MLB superstar Daryl Strawberry -- who battled his own substance abuse issues -- has offered to work with West to stay clean when he finishes his treatment.

Jersey's own VTTO releases a new animated visual for his latest single "Eye 2 Eye." VTTO is a 20-year-old rising singer-songwriter who started his journey in 2018 - while studying in college, VTTO has managed to hone in on his craft. VTTO's latest single is best described as fresh, rhythmic, upbeat, and relatable. VTTO has recently worked with prominent producers Hit-Boy, Cam Wallace, and Jaylien Wesley.

In his own words, VTTO explains his new single:

“Eye 2 Eye is probably one of my favorite songs that I’ve made. It’s one of those feel-good songs that can get you pumped up even if you weren’t going out and just staying home. Eye 2 Eye is a song about living your best life and being successful without worrying about what anybody has to say about you. There will always be people jealous, which then ignites hate. Let them hate, let them be mad...Just keep doing what you do!"

WASHINGTON – White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany tested positive for coronavirus, she disclosed on Monday, the latest high-profile official in President Donald Trump's immediate orbit to do so.

McEnany said she tested positive on Monday, a day after she informally briefed reporters outside the West Wing.

“After testing negative consistently, including every day since Thursday, I tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning while experiencing no symptoms,” McEnany posted to Twitter.

"As an essential worker, I have worked diligently to provide needed information to the American People at this time," she wrote. "With my recent positive test, I will begin the quarantine process and will continue working on behalf of the American People remotely.”

The announcement comes days after Trump himself announced Friday that he tested positive. Hours later he was moved to Walter Reed Medical Center, where he continues to be evaluated. First lady Melania Trump also announced she tested positive.

McEnany was among several officials who attended a ceremony in the Rose Garden at the White House late last month when Trump introduced Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee to the Supreme Court. That was a common event for many of those in the administration or Congress who later tested positive.

Very few people were wearing masks during that event. Photographs show that McEnany was wearing a mask for at least part of the Saturday event.

McEnany last briefed at the White House on Thursday, however she held an informal gaggle with reporters on Sunday after appearing on Fox News. She was not wearing a mask in either instance.

McEnany said in her statement that no reporters, photographers or other members of the press had been listed as "close contacts" by the White House Medical Unit for purposes of contact tracing. Known as a "gaggle" in Washington parlance, the informal briefing on Sunday was held outside. McEnany took two questions.

Video After The Jump

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump briefly left the military hospital where he is being treated for COVID-19 in a motorcade on Sunday to wave to supporters gathered outside, sparking criticism that he was putting others at risk for a political stunt.

Trump was captured on video waving from the back seat of a black SUV Sunday evening, wearing a mask, as crowds cheered and waved American flags and pro-Trump banners outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Washington suburb of Bethesda, Maryland.

Two people could be seen in the vehicle’s front seats.

Patients who test positive for COVID-19 are generally required to quarantine for 14 days, the typical incubation period for the coronavirus to avoid infecting others. The disease has killed more than 200,000 Americans.

Trump tested positive on Thursday and did not disclose his infection until the early hours of Friday morning.

Shortly before the brief ride, Trump posted a video on Twitter saying he would “pay a little surprise to the some of the great patriots we have out on the street.”

White House spokesman Judd Deere described the drive as a “short, last-minute motorcade ride to wave to his supporters” and said Trump quickly returned to his hospital suite.

Deere said “appropriate precautions were taken” before the ride to protect the President and those supporting him. “The movement was cleared by the medical team as safe to do,” he said.

Criticism of the ride was swift, including from an attending physician at Walter Reed.

"Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential 'drive-by' just now has to be quarantined for 14 days," James Phillips, who is also an assistant professor of emergency medicine at George Washington University's medical school said here on Twitter. "They might get sick. They may die. For political theater."

Senator Brian Schatz, a Hawaii Democrat, added that he was praying for the health of Trump’s Secret Service security detail: “They understood the risk inherent in the job, but they shouldn’t have to contemplate that the risk is coming from the protectee.”

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Three men blew up an ATM in a Chinese takeout restaurant in Philadelphia while the establishment was still open but were unable to get any cash, police said.

The men entered the Golden Chinese/American takeout restaurant in northwest Philadelphia shortly after 9 p.m. Friday and ordered food, police said. They then placed some kind of explosive device which damaged the ATM and the window and knocked items off shelves behind the counter, police said.

The three went back into the establishment but were unable to remove the cash box that was still inside the damaged ATM, police said. The three then fled, one on a bicycle and the other two on foot. Police were searching for suspects and no arrests were immediately reported.

The film community is in mourning after actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd was shot and killed in southwest Atlanta, according to police.

Byrd, who is well-known for starring in several films by director Spike Lee and also being a Tony Award-nominated stage actor, was found slain early Saturday morning, Atlanta police confirmed to AJC.com.

The call came in from the 2200 block of Belvedere Avenue about 1:45 a.m., according to Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant. When police arrived at the location, they found Byrd on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds in his back.

He was pronounced dead by Grady emergency medical services.

Lee lamented Byrd’s death in a post on Instagram Sunday afternoon.

“I’m so sad to announce the tragic murder of our beloved brother Thomas Jefferson Byrd last night in Atlanta, Georgia,” he wrote.

Byrd, who was born in Griffin, received a bachelor’s degree in education at Morris Brown College before studying dance at the California Institute of the Arts. He has starred in numerous films directed by Lee, including “Bamboozled,” “Get on the Bus” and “Sweet Blood of Jesus.”

In 2003, he was nominated for a Tony Award as best featured actor in the Whoopi Goldberg-Charles S. Dutton revival of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” on Broadway.

Investigators are not sure what led to the incident and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, Grant said.

“May we all wish condolences and blessings to his family," Lee said.

Labelled as the central star of his agency, Soulja or Benjamin LeBlanc, his real name, is a celebrated figure. He has appeared in radio stations in New York as recent as February this year, just days before the pandemic became what it is today. He has also been a great figure in video shoots and has been in lower-level recordings. Behind the success of Confetti Da Reala Soulja is Karine Sho-Time Thomton. Thomton has endorsed Confetti to gain shows in radio features.

Despite his blindness and struggles recently, Confetti Da Reala Soulja will not let these adversities stop him. He continues to record music in Texas, join interviews and shows, and is allotting his time to take care of his children. LeBlanc is also aiming to get in a major publication. The marketing genius is primed to appear in movies too. Apart from making music, Confetti Da Reala Soulja will join the cast of PPRESSED 2. The VERA EDWARDS Films will be directed by Ricardo Cordero. Sho-Time TV will also be dropping an online DVD magazine featuring the rapper. “Wrong Number” is the latest single released by Confetti Da Reala Soulja. Truly, his effort, skill, and talent brought him where he is now ‒ the pedestal he has dreamed of. The career he has built years ago paved the way for the life of comfort and joy he has achieved now.

Video After The Jump

In the minutes before Harold Easter appears to go unconscious, alone in a police interview room, he begins to speak haltingly.

“You think I’m gonna die, but I’m not,” he says in garbled tones.

Easter grips the edge of a table. A few minutes later he slumps over the table, then suddenly moves upward and falls onto the floor. He hits a chair on his way down and starts having a seizure.

By the time police discover him, he has been on the floor for eight minutes.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on Thursday released 17 video clips totaling 6 hours, 28 minutes of footage from body and surveillance cameras that detail Easter’s arrest after a traffic stop on Jan. 23, him being left alone in the interview room at the CMPD Metro station, and medics working on him after he collapses.

The 41-year-old Easter was taken to a hospital, where he died three days later.

The Observer reported this week that the four CMPD officers and a sergeant involved have resigned after being recommended for termination by Police Chief Johnny Jennings for not following policy of seeking medical assistance for Easter, who had ingested crack cocaine at the arrest scene.

Officers knew Easter put drugs in his mouth, which Easter admitted to during his arrest, the videos and documents released by CMPD revealed. The officers and sergeant did not follow a long-standing CMPD policy that states anyone suspected of ingesting drugs must be evaluated by Medic before being taken to jail, The Observer has reported.

The officers involved are Brentley Vinson, Michael Benfield, Michael Joseph and Shon Sheffield, and the sergeant was Nicolas Vincent. They had been on administrative leave since January.
