Good Kid, M.A.A.D City vs The Heist. Which was the better rap album? Both were excellent in their own right, but in the end Macklemore's The Heist walked away Sunday (January 26) with the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

After the show ended Macklemore conceded that in his opinion Kendrick's project was better and should have gotten the trophy. In a display of class the Seattle rapper reached out to Kendrick after the show and told his as much.

12350593080?profile=original

Macklemore posted the text message he sent to the Black Hippy emcee on his Instagram account.

My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album... I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that's taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it's proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You're the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor

Brand Nubian emcee Lord Jamar has received criticism in recent weeks for his opinion on artists like Macklemore, Yelawolf and the direction hip hop is headed in. After Sunday night's Grammy Awards show where Kendrick Lamar's critically acclaimed Good Kid, M.A.A.D City album was shut out and Macklemore walked away with four trophies, Jamar feels vindicated.

12350595297?profile=original

The outspoken rapper headed to Twitter to voice his opinion.

"Watch the GESTURE Macklamore makes with his performance & you'll understand why they giving him everything," Jamar wrote. "Are we really surprised? Hate to say I TOLD U SO....but...I TOLD U SO!!! His SAME LOVE song & performance tonight is the reason he won everything. I almost gotta laugh cause it take some outrageous shit like this to cee what I'm saying. Lol. Now I ask u...WAS THAT HIP HOP???"

What do you think of Kendrick Lamar getting snubbed at The Grammys?

YMCMB rapper Tyga has been ordered to cough up over $200,000 to Jason of Beverly Hills after failing to pay the jeweler for a pantheon watch and chain.

As we previously reported, Tyga, real name Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, copped the $28,275 diamond watch in August 2012. In December 2012, Jason's let him borrow the $63,000 diamond cuban link chain. However, Tyga failed to return the chain and never paid for the watch.

12350590067?profile=original

Jason's filed a lawsuit in September 2013 seeking the cost of both items plus late fees. A judge has ruled in favor of the jeweler and ordered Tyga to pay $208,334.47, according to TMZ.

When the suit was initially filed Tyga dissed Jason's on Twitter.

Now he's singing a different tune. Tyga's rep told TMZ that this is "all a misunderstanding." They are reportedly trying to work things out.

Video After The Jump

Top Dawg Entertainment emcee Kendrick Lamar lands on the cover of Jet Magazine. The cover story touches on his upbringing, success, Dr. Dre and more.

Check out an excerpt below and pick up a copy of the issue on January 27th when it hits newsstands.

Three years ago Kendrick Lamar Duckworth had never traveled outside of the US. Two critically acclaimed independent albums, five Grammy nominations, and countless international shows later 26-year-old Lamar is a man of the world.

Despite his limited time on mainstream media’s radar,
Lamar’s footing in the rap game is by no means of toddler status. Best described as a dude from but not of, the ’hood, as a youth, Lamar walked the streets of Compton daily only to return to a two-parent household. There, his flair for creative writing was cultivated and morphed into a penchant for penning lyrics. By 15, Lamar was a raw lyricist that needed guidance to hone his talent. The rapper linked up with high school friend, now music executive, Dave Free, who introduced him to a burgeoning Carson, California-based independent record label, Top Dawg Entertainment. Named after CEO and music producer, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, and operated by Tiffith’s cousin Terrence “Punch” Henderson, TDE embraced the outspoken, contemplative prodigy and set the wheels in motion.

Mic Check
Lamar’s 10-year-grind to the top is an ode to living as a pure artist who speaks from the soul, as opposed to today’s insta-digital, social networking, overnight flash-in-the pan types. When building the career of the next hip-hop star, many don’t think of the impact they can have culturally, let alone globally. Making a hit song is usually the focus, dictated by the label’s statistics on what content “should” be financially lucrative. TDE took another approach.

In Lamar’s case, being independent first and building a solid fan base with tracks like “Ignorance Is Bliss,” “A.D.H.D.,” and “Hii Power,” gave him the freedom to rap from the heart, not a corporate account. His first two indie albums, Overly Dedicated (2010) and Section.80 (2011) didn’t boast tremendous sales— in fact the former was available for free online. They did however start a movement. And those who preferred storytelling over just hot hooks or blaring beats followed. Soon this swagged-up Compton kid had executives from Interscope Records, and iconic producer Andre ‘Dr. Dre’ Young, who signed him, head nodding to a new tune.

COLUMBIA, Md. (Associated Press) — Police in Maryland say three people died Saturday in a shooting at a mall in suburban Baltimore, including the presumed gunman.

Howard County police said via Twitter that a shooting took place at the Mall in Columbia, a suburb of both Baltimore and Washington.

Authorities received a call to 911 at around 11:15 a.m. from someone reporting that shots had been fired. Police responded to the scene and found three people dead, including one person who was found near a gun and ammunition.

Police said they believed that one of people found dead was the shooter. There was no other information available about the two other people. Later, police said that two people with minor injuries were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The scene was "believed to be secure" police said in a tweet released at about 12:36 p.m.

The mall is at the center of the town and typically opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays.

Joan Harding of Elkridge, Md., was shopping with her husband, David, for a tiara for their granddaughter's 18th birthday. She said she heard something heavy falling, followed by gunshots and people running.

"My husband said, 'Get down!' and the girl that worked in the store said, 'Get in the back,' " Harding said. That is where they hid until police gave the all-clear.

Witnesses said they heard a succession of gunshots fired near the food court on the first floor of the mall.

12350586271?profile=original

People were directed out of the mall and into a parking lot, where some boarded a bus and others walked toward their cars. Some people were seen crying.

Laura McKinzles of Columbia works at a kiosk in the mall. She said she heard between eight and 10 gunshots, followed by people running and screaming. She ran into the backroom of a perfume store and locked the door.
