BLADENBORO, N.C. (Associated Press) — The black teenager was found in a North Carolina trailer park, hanging from a swing set by a dog leash and a belt that were not his own. His mother said he showed no sign of suicidal thoughts, yet authorities quickly ruled that he had taken his own life.
Now the FBI is reviewing the investigation after Lennon Lacy's relatives and the NAACP raised doubts about the official findings, which the county coroner also questions.
A 911 caller reported spotting the 17-year-old's body Aug. 29 in the small town of Bladenboro, about 100 miles south of Raleigh. His feet were suspended 2 inches off the ground.
The state medical examiner ruled that the boy killed himself, but his mother said she does not believe it.
"When I saw him, I just knew automatically he didn't do that to himself," Claudia Lacy told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "If he was going to harm himself, his demeanor would have changed. His whole routine, everything, his attitude, everything would have changed."

She last saw the youngest of her four sons alive as the middle linebacker prepared for a high school football game by putting together his uniform in the early hours of the day he died.
His father told him that he needed to get some sleep before the game, his first after his mother made him take a year off from the team to focus on his grades.
"OK, Daddy," he said. They then heard a door close, which was not unusual, Claudia Lacy said, because her son liked to run at night when the air was cool.
About 13 hours later, she identified his body in the back of an ambulance. The swing set was in clear sight of about 10 trailers.
She said she felt let down when investigators ruled it a suicide and brought her concerns to the state chapter of the NAACP, which has organized a march Saturday in Bladenboro.
On Friday, federal officials confirmed they were reviewing the investigation. A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Tom Walker said Walker's office acted at the request of attorneys from the North Carolina NAACP representing the family.
"We don't know what happened that terrible night," said the Rev. William Barber, president of the state NAACP chapter. "It is possible that a 17-year-old excited about life could commit suicide. The family is prepared to accept the truth. They're not prepared to accept this theory that's been posited with a rush to a conclusion of suicide so quickly. We have said there are far too many unanswered questions."

Bladen County District Attorney Jon David said Friday that he also asked the FBI to review the case because the family and the NAACP said they had information that they would provide only to federal authorities. He said he had seen no evidence of foul play.
"Not only is the case open, but our minds are open," David said.

In the 911 call, the dispatcher advises the caller to try to get the person down in case he was still alive. When investigators arrived at the trailer park that the NAACP has described as predominantly white, the body was on the ground. Investigators told NAACP attorneys that one shoe was on the body and one was on the ground, said Al McSurely, a lawyer working for the NAACP.
The shoes were 1.5 sizes too small for Lacy and did not belong to him, his family said.
The family also questioned whether authorities took photos at the scene, and if they did, whether those photos were provided to the state medical examiner.
David said Friday that many photos were taken, but the NAACP attorneys said they were not aware of any.
Bladenboro Police Chief Chris Hunt referred all questions to the State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina's top law enforcement agency. A spokeswoman for the bureau has said agents addressed all viable leads.
Bladen County Coroner Hubert Kinlaw said he signed a death certificate calling the cause of death a suicide because that's how the form came back from the medical examiner. Kinlaw, who went to the scene, said he now wonders whether Lennon really killed himself.
"How did it happen? How did he wind up there?" he said. "These are all questions that are out there."
But the medical examiner, Dr. Deborah Radisch, said in a discussion with a pathologist hired by the NAACP that she based her ruling partially on Kinlaw's conclusion that Lacy killed himself.
And Claudia Lacy inadvertently contributed to the conclusion of suicide. When asked if Lennon had been depressed, she said yes, that his great-uncle had been buried the day before. She said she meant that Lennon was sad, grieving over the loss of a family member, not suicidal.
"Here's a mother who knows at the end of the day she's going to have to accept that either it was a suicide or it was a lynching," Barber said. "And because of the history of the South and the history of this country, in some strange way, she would almost rather it be a suicide."

Jeremih and two associates were arrested at Newark LIberty International Airport on Friday, December 12, after trying to force their way onto a plane after final boarding call.
According to NJ.com, Jeremih, real name Jeremy Felton, was late arriving for a 1:35 p.m. US Air flight to Phoenix. One of his crew member was already on board the flight and attempted to pry the doors open to let the singer and another associate on board.
All three were taken into custody.
Dontate Cunningham, 26, was charged with defiant trespass. Jeremih, 27, and Adam Woods, 27, were both charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct.
All three have since been released.

MINNEAPOLIS (Associated Press) — Adrian Peterson's appeal was stopped for no gain, when the NFL's unpaid suspension of the star running back was stayed until next spring.
Peterson won't be considered for reinstatement before April 15, and by then he might not be with the Minnesota Vikings anymore. He'll likely be the plaintiff in a lawsuit against the league, though.
Harold Henderson, the league-appointed arbitrator who heard Peterson's appeal, released Friday his decision affirming the Nov. 18 punishment levied by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the child-abuse case that kept Peterson out of all but one game this season. He'd been on paid leave, even during the appeal, but Henderson's ruling translated to a fine of more than $4.1 million. That's the six-game portion of his salary this year.
The NFL Players Association argued that Peterson's time on the exempt list, at Goodell's sole discretion, should have counted as time served toward a suspension. That's one of the many grievances the union will likely raise in court. The rift between the league and the NFLPA over the fairness of the disciplinary process has widened this season while the cases of Peterson and former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice played out.
According to a person with direct knowledge of the situation, a complaint will be filed against the NFL on Peterson's behalf in federal court in Minnesota as early as Monday. The person spoke Friday to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the lawsuit had not yet been finalized.
Nothing is final about Peterson's status with the Vikings, either, and coaches and players have said often this year they'd welcome him back. But in an interview Friday with ESPN.com, Peterson said he's been so frustrated by this process with the NFL that he's considered retiring. Focusing on real estate instead and even trying out as an Olympic sprinter in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes have entered his mind as options, he said.
"You only live once. It might be time for me to pursue that," Peterson told ESPN.com.
In an ironic twist, Peterson probably wouldn't have been punished as much had the public backlash to the initial leniency for Rice not been so severe. Now Rice is reinstated and Peterson remains suspended, though Rice doesn't have a team.
Peterson could find himself a free agent next spring, too. The combination of his age and his contract was already going to make the Vikings think hard about his status, before the heat the organization took for initially announcing he'd continue to play while he went through his due process in court.
The six-time Pro Bowl pick, three-time AP All-Pro and two-time NFL rushing leader has a contract that runs through 2017, with a salary for 2015 at $12.75 million. That's not guaranteed like the other major sports, though, and the Vikings could release him before next season and owe him nothing, taking only a $2.4 million hit on their salary cap.
Henderson's announcement was a decisive victory for Goodell, whose indefinite suspension of Rice was overruled last month by a different arbitrator. Rice was caught on camera punching the woman who's now his wife but was initially given only a two-game ban. The video went viral, and Goodell toughened the punishment.
The union's grievance for Peterson was similar, arguing essentially that Goodell was making up protocol for discipline as he went along. But Henderson forcefully wrote that he saw no bounds being overstepped by the league boss.
Goodell announced in August a stiffer penalty for players involved with domestic violence. The union argued that Peterson, who was charged with felony child abuse in September for use a wooden switch to discipline his 4-year-old son in May, should be subject to the prior guidelines. Henderson said that argument didn't matter.
"The Commissioner has broad discretion to impose appropriate discipline for violations of the personal conduct policy, and his recent pronouncements simply reflect his current thinking on domestic violence and other incidents involving physical force," Henderson wrote.
The NFLPA called Henderson's objectivity into question.
"The decision itself ignores the facts, the evidence and the collective bargaining agreement," the union said in a statement. "This decision also represents the NFL's repeated failure to adhere to due process and confirms its inconsistent treatment of players."
The Vikings initially announced Peterson would stay on the active roster after the first game he missed following the indictment, but they reversed course less than two days later following intense public pressure and placed him on the exempt list at Goodell's approval. That's like paid leave, which the union argued counted as discipline and therefore contributed to an overreaching punishment. Henderson dismissed that argument, too.
Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault in Texas Nov. 4 for probation time, community service and a small fine. He acknowledged physically disciplining the boy as he had been as a youth, but he said he meant no harm and was sorry for the trouble he caused.
"I love my son more than any of you can imagine," he said outside the courthouse that day.
Still, Henderson sided with Goodell in his written reprimand of Peterson's purported lack of remorse.
"While the discipline assessed is indeed greater than in most prior cases, this is arguably one of the most egregious cases of domestic violence in this Commissioner's tenure — the severe beating of a 4-year old child, with a tree branch, striking him repeatedly about the body and inflicting injuries visible days later," Henderson said.

Boxing fans have been on the edge of their seats hoping to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight Manny Pacquiao. The wait is almost over.
During an interview with Showtime Sports, Mayweather said he is looking to get in the ring with Pacquiao on May 2, 2015.
"I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing," Mayweather said. "I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he's in a very, very tight situation. He's lost to [Juan Manuel] Marquez [in 2012], he's lost to [Timothy] Bradley [by controversial decision in 2012 but avenged it in April]. Pay-per-view numbers are extremely low. He's desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I'm just waiting on them."
Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) wants Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) to fight him on Showtime, where he is under contract for two more fights. Pac Man fights for HBO. There's no reason an agreement can't be made between the networks to co-promote the event.
The fight will most likely take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. It could generate as much as $250 million and will be the highest pay-per-view boxing match in history.
Mayweather is not a fan of Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, but the money and pressure from Showtime's parent company CBS to put together a mega-fight almost assures the fight will happen.
"So let's make this fight happen. Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum, you guys have been ducking us for years," Mayweather said. "We're tired of you guys fooling the public, fooling the critics. You guys didn't want to take random blood and urine testing, so that's why it didn't happen. Then I offered you $40 million, then you didn't want to make the fight happen. You lost twice, now you coming back begging for the same money. That's not gonna happen. Let's make the fight happen for the people and the fans. Mayweather versus Pacquiao, May 2nd, Cinco de Mayweather."

The saga of Creed singer Scott Stapp would be hard to believe if it were a movie, but it's all real and getting more bizarre by the minute.
As we previously reported, Scott believes that his problems with the Internal Revenue Service are being caused because he criticized President Obama.
"In 2012 I was doing a promotional tour for my book Sinner's Creed and I went on Fox News," Stapp said on KISS 92.5's Roz and Mocha Show in November. "I expressed a little concern and disappointment with President Obama. Withing two months of that public statement, that's when the IRS began to freeze my accounts. I believe that the IRS situation is definitely the result of me expressing my dissatisfaction with President Obama. Absolutely... one hundred percent."
He was placed on an involuntary 72-hour psychiatric hold on November 13. At the time officers with the Madison County Florida Sheriff's Department found him on the side of the road. He appeared to be wasted and insisted that someone was trying to poison him.

He now believes he's a CIA agent out to kill Obama, according to a 911 call just placed by his wife, Jaclyn.
During the call Jaclyn said that Scott was riding around on a bike without a shirt with CIA documents he found online in his back pocket.
"He thinks he's part of the CIA. He thinks they're trying to kill him," Jaclyn and Scott's sister-in-law tell the 911 operator. "He has a bunch of paperwork in his backpack that he's a CIA agent and he was supposed to assassinate Obama."
TMZ reports that Scott made his own 911 call blaming his estranged wife for stealing his truck, which is why he was riding a bike.
When police found Scott he told then that Jaclyn had stolen $6 million from him. After speaking with the singer the cops determined he was stable enough to not be placed on psychiatric hold.

Roc Nation recording artist J. Cole just released his third studio album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Instead of talking about the quality of the project some have focused a perceived Eminem diss on the song "Firing Squad."
“History repeats itself and that’s just how it goes / Same way that these rappers always bite each other’s flows / Same thing that my nigga Elvis did with rock ‘n’ roll / Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and then Macklemore,” raps Cole.
Cole clarified what he meant in a new interview with Power 105.1's Angie Martinez.
“It’s silly how big of an Eminem fan I am,” said Cole. “It was a very select group of top notch people that I worship and Eminem was literally at the top of that list. My first song sounded like an Eminem bite. If you think I’m dissing Eminem, I know you just read the headline, or you’re listening to the song with the headline in mind.”
The Fayetteville, North Carolina also named his top five MC's list.
"I can tell you one right now. It probably changes all the time," he said. "2Pac off the top. Nas, Big, Jay. And then that slot right there is like Eminem, Andre 3000, know what I mean? I wanna say [André] so bad, but Eminem is like solo dolo. Andre’s incredible, but he’ll tell you himself, he was in a duo so his workload was a little less, but creatively he’s miles beyond."
