When news broke Monday, July 13, that 50 Cent had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it was all people could talk about on social media.
When some see the word "bankrupt" they automatically assume it means you have no money. In the G-Unit business mogul's case, that is far from the truth.
While out promoting the upcoming movie, Southpaw, 50 gave E!Online an exclusive statement on the filing.
"I'm taking the precautions that any other good businessperson would take in this situation. You know when you're successful and stuff, you become a target. I don't wanna be a bulls eye. I don't want anybody to pick me as the guy that they just come to with astronomical claims and go through all that. Walt Disney has filed bankruptcy. Donald Trump has filed bankruptcy. It means you're reorganizing your finances, but it does stop things from moving forward that you don't want moving forward. I gotta decent legal team. You don't have to worry."
The"In Da Club"hit maker's lawyer,William A. Brewer III, also issued a statement.
"This filing for personal bankruptcy protection permits Mr. Jackson to continue his involvement with various business interests and continue his work as an entertainer, while he pursues an orderly reorganization of his financial affairs."
Complex's Lauren Nostro wrote an interesting piece titled "50 Cent Filing for Bankruptcy Does Not Mean He's Broke." You can read the full article here.
In an excerpt from it she spoke "with Robert Gregg, president of Mainline Partners in Brooklyn, to break down exactly how this Chapter 11 filing works to squash any rumors."
Can you explain Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a general sentiment? In a general sentiment, you usually file a Chapter 11 when your assets are worth more than a certain amount. In this case, 50 would not have been eligible for Chapter 7 or 13 because his debt is more than $390,000 in unsecured debt. He would automatically need to do Chapter 11, and here’s where the protection comes in—so you’ve got debt and a lot of times it’s looked upon negatively, but there can be multiple reasons. One could be, "I’ve got more debt right now than I have income coming in, can we work together a plan of protection to restructure?" Now the protection comes in because once it’s filed there’s a mainstay where typically 90 to 120 days or somewhere thereabouts, you’re putting together and formulating a plan of how you’re going to pay back your creditors. The majority is personal credit, not business. That could be one reason.
They’re reporting that his assets in debts each are in the range of $10 million to $50 million so that alone put him in Chapter 11. Oh yeah, definitely.
From heroin to prescription medication, drugs have remained a prevalent issue in the Midwestern city of Chicago, Illinois. Just ask Lil Herb, who has admittedly indulged in lean for years. "I was in it for the taste, for the way it make you feel - all types of s***," the 19-year-old tells us in the clip.
The young Herbert Wright began heavily sipping syrup at just 15-years-old. During the interview, the "I'm Rollin" lyricist recalls spending thousands a week on the habit, which he quit using nearly two months ago. "Two months ago I just paid $1800 for an eight of Actavis [cough syrup]," he remembers. "I ran through it in two days, three max." All in all, Lil Herb claims he's spent someone's salary on the promethazine/codeine medication. "I know I done spent 50,000 on this s***," he says.
Today, the rising Chicago star is strictly "pro-cannabis," and is currently taking courses to receive his high school diploma. "I could've graduated high school if I stuck with it," the former spelling bee champ tells us. Unfortunately for him, Lil Herb began his decline towards middle school, taking to the streets instead of his schoolbooks. "I was in the streets and rapping. I didn't know rap was gonna change my life," he expresses.

Donald Trump'sranting about illegal immigrants and Mexicans may have gotten him into hot water. In one of his latest statements, he said recently escaped drug kingpin, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, "everything that's wrong with Mexico."
TMZ reports that a man claiming to be El Chapo's son sent a threat via Twitter to Trump. Translated into English the message read, "Keep fucking around and I'm gonna make you swallow your bitch words you fucking whitey milkshitter (that's a homophobic slur)."
Trump has called in the FBI. He told TMZ he's still not letting up.
"I'm fighting for much more than myself. I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can't be intimidated. It's too important."

Businessman can be added to Kurupt's many list of accolades as the rapper showed off his special strains of medicinal marijuana in this VladTV exclusive.
Kurupt explained his brand, "Moon Rock" isn't something he invented himself, but a strain that he's perfected with Dr. Zodiak. The medical cannabis line is only available in legal California dispensaries and in less than a year, his brand has become the most requested product in the business.
The rapper also showed off his strains named, "Girl Scout Cookie" infused with hash oil and "OG Kush," made with the same process.
The demand for his strains have local dispensaries increasing its costs. Find out more about Moon Rock here (http://kuruptsmoonrock.com/)
Tyga's latest CD titledThe Gold Album: The 18th Dynasty, didn't perform well when it as released on June 30. The oft-delayed project only sold2,200copies it's first week out. By comparison the rapper's previous disc Hotel California sold54,000first week and is approaching gold status.
Cash Money Records co-owner, Birdman, believes T-Raww purposely torpedoed the new album's sales by allowing it to be streamed for free on Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube, according to TMZ.
Because of the record's poor performance and what Birdman's believes was a stunt by Tyga to leave Cash Money a dud for his last contractually obligated album, so he could sign outright with Lil Wayne, he's not counting the disc and is refusing to let the"Rack City"rapper out of his contract.
Baby is looking to take Tyga to court if need be to enforce the contract. What doesn't make any sense is thatThe Gold Album: 18th Dynastywas released independently by Tyga's own label,Last Kings Music. That would seem to make Birdman's claims pointless unless he and the rapper had some other kind of deal under the table.
Tyga explained his side of it all via Twitter on July 1.
We guess a judge will eventually sort this mess out.
