Report via LA Times - Eric Holder, the 29-year-old aspiring rapper who is accused of fatally shooting Nipsey Hussle on Sunday, was charged during a court appearance Thursday afternoon with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
His attorney, Chris Darden, entered a plea of not guilty in the tightly packed, heavily guarded downtown courtroom. Holder, clad in a light blue jail shirt and pants and shackled at the wrists, stood in a glassed enclosure and was flanked by several deputies. He leaned back slightly with his chin up, exposing an array of neck tattoos, and frequently glanced at onlookers. Holder has received numerous social media threats, and deputies noticeably scrutinized the courtroom.
After being questioned by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Teresa T. Sullivan, Holder made a brief comment, agreeing to delay the next court proceeding until May 10. The judge set Holder’s bail at $5 million. Darden is best known as one of the prosecutors during the O.J. Simpson trial.
The criminal complaint, using his given name Eric Ronald Holder Jr., also includes allegations that Holder personally used a firearm and caused great bodily injury and death.
Holder was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing Hussle and wounding two other people in the attack.
Darden told reporters he had to get on a plane. Prosecutor John McKinney said it was his understanding that Darden had been privately retained for Holder.
Darden was one of the prosecutors in the Simpson trial, in which the former football star was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. But in the years since, Darden has worked as a defense attorney in murder cases.
In the brief court appearance, Darden argued unsuccessfully to keep media cameras from filming his client during the arraignment hearing, saying he believed there was an “issue of identity.”
McKinney told the judge that Holder’s photograph had been widely disseminated in the media and that “identity won’t ultimately be an issue in this case.”
Outside court, McKinney declined to say whether detectives had recovered the handgun used in the shooting.
Hussle, a celebrated rapper and community activist, was outside his shop on Slauson Avenue when a man approached and opened fire. Hussle was fatally wounded, and two others were also shot. Police alleged Holder had gotten into a dispute with Hussle earlier in the day and returned with a gun and started shooting. He then fled in a waiting car, police said.
Graphic video from a surveillance camera shows a gunman walking up to Hussle and two other men in front of the shop. The gunman opens fire, and Hussle falls to the ground as the other men run from the gunfire.
Holder went by the moniker Fly Mac. His Instagram handle was “ima_god_in_da_streetz.” He sang of body bags, “38 gun blasts” and bloody homicides. Holder is believed to be a gang member, LAPD Chief Michel Moore said, but police do not believe the shooting had anything to do with gang rivalries.
Holder was convicted in 2012 of carrying a loaded firearm and was sentenced to 180 days in jail and three years of probation, court records show.
A two-day manhunt ended Tuesday when a resident in Bellflower told authorities a man matching the description of Holder was walking down Artesia Boulevard. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found Holder standing in the parking lot of a business.
Confronted by deputies, he offered no resistance and surrendered without incident.
The woman who drove the getaway car turned herself in to authorities Monday and is continuing to cooperate with detectives. She has not been arrested, said Josh Rubenstein, the Los Angeles Police Department’s director of communications.
According to two sources familiar with the investigation, the woman has insisted to detectives that she never knew Holder intended to harm Hussle and became aware of the shooting only in the aftermath.
The role of the driver remains an issue of debate in the Hyde Park community where the shooting occurred.
Community activist Najee Ali is calling for the immediate arrest of the driver.

Report via TMZ -- Nipsey Hussle is so beloved in L.A. and beyond, family members in charge of planning his memorial are searching for a venue that can accommodate what will almost certainly be an enormous crowd.
Sources close to the slain Crenshaw rapper tell TMZ ... planning is underway and the family is looking at venues, but their choices are extremely limited because most of what's available is just too small.
We're told the family has already passed on venues with 2,000 seats -- they need something MUCH bigger, and they're looking at venues that can accommodate upwards of 15,000 mourners.
The only 2 real venues in L.A. that could accommodate the crowd would likely be The Forum in Inglewood and Staples Center in Downtown L.A. The other interesting possibility is the Hollywood Bowl. BTW ... Michael Jackson's memorial service was held at Staples.
Nipsey was a man of the people, and we're told his family wants to ensure everyone who wants to will be able to celebrate his life. Nip had an enormous impact on the community and his murder resonated in L.A. and way beyond ... with memorials and candlelight vigils popping up across the globe.
We broke the story ... Nipsey was brutally murdered outside his store Sunday afternoon in the Hyde Park section of L.A.
There's nothing easy about planning a funeral of this magnitude ... we're told those close to Nipsey want the service to happen within the next 2 weeks.

(Billboard) -- Cardi B leads all nominees at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
The "I Like It" rapper is nominated 21 times in 18 categories, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top 100 Artist -- just missing the record for most nominations set by Drake and The Chainsmokers, who each had 22 in 2017. Cardi will compete against herself in three categories -- top Hot 100 song, top selling song, and top collaboration.
Following Cardi B, Drake and Post Malone each have 17 nominations. Travis Scott is up for 12 awards, and XXXTentacion is up for 10.
Among the other nominees are Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper -- who are up for the chart achievement award, top soundtrack for A Star Is Born, and top selling song for "Shallow." Gaga is up separately for top song sales artist.
For this year's ceremony, there are two fan-voted categories -- top social artist, and chart achievement.
Kelly Clarkson hosts the 2019 Billboard Music Awards from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1. The show will air live at 8PM ET on NBC.

Forest Grove, ORE. (KPTV) — A man accused of faking a burglary to cover up money stolen from his daughter’s sale of Girl Scout Cookies faced a judge Friday.
Brian Couture, 40, of Forest Grove, Oregon, pleaded not guilty to charges of initiating a false report and improper use of an emergency reporting system.
Police said Couture called 911 on March 6 and reported that someone had gotten into his home through a sliding glass door, leading to a struggle.
Couture was unresponsive when police arrived, and he was taken to the hospital. The area was searched, but no suspect was located.
Police said Couture later admitted that he had staged the incident.
Detectives determined he did it to conceal the theft of money from a nonprofit organization.
A Girl Scouts spokeswoman confirmed Couture is the father of a Girl Scout and there is around $740 in unaccounted-for cookie sales in connection with this case.
“Since the March 18 arrest in this case, we have been in contact with the Forest Grove Police Department and are working with them to resolve the matter,” according to a statement from the Girl Scouts. “At this time, Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is following our normal procedure to collect on funds owed. The stewardship of Girl Scout troop funds is a top priority for our organization, and that is our focus in this matter.”

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (CBS Local) — A Pennsylvania man assaulted an employee after he became upset with the way his groceries were being bagged, authorities said.
Bradley A. Bower, 55, was in the checkout line at a Giant Food Store in New Cumberland Feb. 2 when he became upset. Bower became angry when a cashier put canned goods in the same grocery bag as chips, smashing the chips, according to police.
Bower asked the cashier to stop bagging his groceries that way and then, on his way out of the store, he allegedly told the cashier: “Do you have a problem with me? Because I have a problem with you.”
The cashier, who said he thought Bower was kidding, replied: “Do you?”
That’s when Bower, described by police as 6-foot-tall, weighing 250 pounds, allegedly grabbed the employee by the neck and shouted “You idiot!” The cashier told police he shoved Bower away from him, and other employees then stepped in to separate them.
The employee suffered bruising to his neck, police said.
When police arrived, they viewed security video from the store and issued a simple assault summons for Bower.
Police say Bower told officers he knew he was in the wrong, but he was having a bad day and his chips being smashed sent him over the edge, CBS affiliate WHP reported.

Conor dug in, getting personal ... posting 2 photos from Khabib's wedding day -- along with the caption, "Your wife is a towel mate" -- appearing to make fun of Khabib's wife's clothing.
McGregor deleted the message minutes later.
Khabib and his wife are devout Muslims ... and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, took the insult as a direct slight at Khabib's religion.
"Talking shit, this guy is insulting someone’s wife and making fun of her religion and belief. He doesn’t realize he’s insulting 1.5 billon Muslims. Religion and family is a no no. You’re fucked Connor, let’s see what the media is going to say now. He’s a rapist, and a bitch."
Conor's used racially and religiously charged rhetoric to sell fights and belittle fighters in the past ... so it's possible this entire incident is an attempt to goad Khabib into a rematch.
**UPDATE** Khabib just fired back at his arch nemesis ... clearly alluding to the reports that McGregor is under investigation for sexual assault in Ireland (Conor's rep bashed the report as a "rumor," but did not address the allegations).
"Rapist, you are Rapist," Nurmagomedov tweeted.
"You are a hypocrite who is not responsible for your actions. Justice will find you. We will see."
