Report via NBC4 New York -- A Connecticut police department says a fugitive has agreed to surrender if enough people respond to an online wanted poster on social media.

Torrington police say 29-year-old Jose Simms, who is believed to be somewhere in New York, has seven arrest warrants and is being sought as a fugitive because he failed to show up for a court appearance.

Lt. Brett Johnson posted on the department's Facebook page on Wednesday that Simms had contacted him through Facebook and agreed to turn himself in if the social post containing his poster gets 15,000 "likes." Johnson says he tried to get Simms to agree to 10,000 "likes" but Simms wanted 20,000 -- so they split the difference.

On Wednesday evening, the Facebook post eclipsed 15,000 likes, but Simms had yet to turn himself in.

The lieutenant described the challenge as difficult but doable.

He also suggested that if anyone knows were Simms is hiding they could let police know and save the department some suspense.

Video After The Chase

Report via KTLA5 -- A 52-year-old Winnetka woman was identified Wednesday as the RV driver who led officers on a wild chase through the San Fernando Valley that involved one of two dogs leaping out of the moving vehicle and multiple crashes that left a bystander with major injuries.

Julie Ann Rainbird has been booked on $100,000 bail for possible evasion, hit-and-run and assault charges in connection with the Tuesday evening pursuit, according to California Highway Patrol.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at around 7 p.m. asked CHP to take over its pursuit of a stolen motor home. Simi Valley police later said the vehicle was purchased in Downey using a stolen identity.

CHP officers in the Newhall area started chasing the RV southbound on Old Road near Weldon Canyon Road, the agency said. The driver sped through the freeway and surface streets, sustaining heavy damages as it crashed into multiple vehicles, aerial footage from Sky5 showed.

At some point, in the Winnetka neighborhood, a dog leaped out of the moving RV and ran off the road.

Another dog then came into view from the front seat and remained there until the driver lost control and struck a car pulling into the driveway of a Tarzana home at about 7:30 p.m.

The suspect subsequently slammed into a tree and exited the RV with the second dog limping after her.

Officers soon tackled the suspect as she tried to jump a gate, Sky5 video showed.

The man who was hit while pulling into the driveway was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to CHP. Rainbird also suffered some minor injuries, the agency added.

One of the dogs was transported to an emergency clinic while the other was taken to a West Valley shelter, according to L.A. Animal Services. They are both recovering.

Investigators had learned about the RV after an L.A. woman reported her identity stolen, according to Simi Valley police. A motorcycle was also purchased with that victim's identity, the Police Department said.

In this clip, Chi Ali details the verbal altercation over the phone between himself and his baby mama's brother that eventually led to Chi Ali fatally shooting him. The brother apparently told him "suck my d***" which is something many men, particularly men from a street background are completely averse toward. That phrasing pushed Chi Ali to the brink which culminated in the shooting.

Report via USA Today -- A grand jury has indicted Eric Holder for the shooting death of Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Holder was indicted May 9 on one count of murder, two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, spokesman Greg Risling said in a statement Tuesday, after the indictment was unsealed.

It includes allegations that Holder "personally used a handgun and caused great bodily injury and death."

Prosecutors previously charged Holder with the same counts, but the indictment means they can skip a preliminary hearing and head to trial.

The 29-year-old suspect pleaded not guilty to all charges Tuesday and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing in June. His bail has been set at $6.53 million.

Holder faces life in state prison if convicted.

He's accused of gunning down Hussle, 33, whose real name was Ermias Asghedom, outside of the rapper's clothing store in South Los Angeles on March 31. Two others were wounded during the incident.

Holder was arrested April 2 after a nearly 48-hour manhunt.

Video After The Jump

Report via Newsweek -- A bare-chested 22-year-old man from Largo jumped into a highway patrol trooper’s car and led officers on a chase during which he reached speeds of up to 149 miles an hour, police said.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper had stopped at the side of the turnpike in Okeechobee County when they saw Shane Jensen, who was shirtless, apparently needing medical help.

Police said that Jensen “was incoherent when the trooper began talking with him.” The trooper spoke to Jensen for a few minutes and then went to speak to a road ranger so they could call for medical help, NBC News reported.

Jensen spotted an opportunity and made a dash for the driver seat of the trooper’s 2013 Dodge Charger, and jumped on the accelerator. Dramatic dashboard camera footage from the incident on May 2 has just been released and shows Jensen speeding off and the trooper heard yelling, “Hey, hey, where are you going?”

Officers tried to stop Jensen by setting up a roadblock further down the highway in Osceola County. When the car came to a halt, three officers approached the stopped car with guns drawn and one moved to open the passenger-side door. But Jensen then accelerated on the road shoulder and escaped.

The suspect weaved through traffic at 120 miles per hour and at one point, reached 149 mph while officers chased him. Undeterred after he swerved to a halt at another stop strip, he got out of the car, jumped the median barrier and ran past oncoming traffic and into the woods where he was later arrested.

No one was injured in the incident. Jensen had a $400,000 warrant out of Pinellas County for carjacking and aggravated assault with a hammer.

He has been charged with grand theft, high speed fleeing, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and reckless driving, The Miami Herald reported.

GENEVA (Reuters) - The risk of nuclear weapons being used is at its highest since World War Two, a senior U.N. security expert said on Tuesday, calling it an “urgent” issue that the world should take more seriously.

Renata Dwan, director of the U.N. Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), said all states with nuclear weapons have nuclear modernization programs underway and the arms control landscape is changing, partly due to strategic competition between China and the United States.

Traditional arms control arrangements are also being eroded by the emergence of new types of war, with increasing prevalence of armed groups and private sector forces and new technologies that blurred the line between offence and defense, she told reporters in Geneva.

With disarmament talks stalemated for the past two decades, 122 countries have signed a treaty to ban nuclear weapons, partly out of frustration and partly out of a recognition of the risks, she said.

“I think that it’s genuinely a call to recognize – and this has been somewhat missing in the media coverage of the issues – that the risks of nuclear war are particularly high now, and the risks of the use of nuclear weapons, for some of the factors I pointed out, are higher now than at any time since World War Two.”

The nuclear ban treaty, officially called the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, was backed by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.

The treaty has so far gathered 23 of the 50 ratifications that it needs to come into force, including South Africa, Austria, Thailand, Vietnam and Mexico. It is strongly opposed by the United States, Russia, and other states with nuclear arms.

Cuba also ratified the treaty in 2018, 56 years after the Cuban missile crisis, a 13-day Cold War face-off between Moscow and Washington that marked the closest the world had ever come to nuclear war.

Dwan said the world should not ignore the danger of nuclear weapons.

“How we think about that, and how we act on that risk and the management of that risk, seems to me a pretty significant and urgent question that isn’t reflected fully in the (U.N.) Security Council,” she said.
