A massive, multi-billion dollar lawsuit is now topping the pile of claims against rappers Travis Scott and Drake & organizers of the Astroworld Festival in Houston earlier this month.

This comes after the event left 10 people dead and hundreds more injured following a crowd surge during Scott’s performance at NRG Stadium. Over 50,000 people attended the festival.

San Antonio-based attorney Thomas J. Henry filed the $2 billion lawsuit Thursday on behalf of 282 victims & it’s targeting a long list of defendants.

The lawsuit is seeking up to $2 billion in damages from Scott, Aubrey Drake Graham (Drake), Apple Music, Live Nation & NRG Stadium.

“The defendants stood to make an exorbitant amount of money off of this event & they still chose to cut corners, cut costs & put attendees at risk,” said Henry in a statement. “My clients want to ensure the defendants are held responsible for their actions, & they want to send the message to all performers, event organizers & promoters that what happened at Astroworld cannot happen again.”

Houston police are still investigating the tragedy that unfolded at Astroworld, & as of earlier this week, the Harris County administrator will also be conducting a separate investigation.

Hundreds more lawsuits have already been filed against Scott, Drake and event organizers. As of last check, no one has been criminally charged.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt commuted the death sentence of condemned inmate Julius Jones on Thursday, the day of his scheduled execution. Jones has proclaimed his innocence from death row for more than 2 decades in the 1999 killing of a suburban Oklahoma City businessman.

Stitt commuted Jones’ death sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He had been scheduled for execution on Thursday.

The state’s Pardon and Parole Board recommended in a 3-1 vote on Nov. 1 that Stitt commute Jones’ sentence to life in prison, with several members of the panel agreeing they had doubts about the evidence that led to Jones’ conviction.

Jones, 41, was convicted of first-degree murder & sentenced to die for the 1999 shooting death of Edmond businessman Paul Howell during a carjacking.

Jones’ case drew widespread attention after it was profiled in “The Last Defense,” a three-episode documentary produced by actress Viola Davis that aired on ABC in 2018. Since then, reality television star Kim Kardashian West and athletes with Oklahoma ties, including NBA stars Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin & Trae Young, have urged Stitt to commute Jones’ death sentence & spare his life.

Jones alleges he was framed by the actual killer, a high school friend & former co-defendant who was a key witness against him. But Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater and the state’s former attorney general, Mike Hunter, have said the evidence against Jones is overwhelming.

Information from trial transcripts shows that witnesses identified Jones as the shooter & placed him with Howell’s stolen vehicle. Investigators also found the murder weapon wrapped in a bandanna with Jones’ DNA in an attic space above his bedroom. Jones claimed in his commutation filing that the gun & bandanna were planted there by the actual killer, who had been inside Jones’ house after the killing.

Howell’s sister, Megan Tobey, & young daughters were in Howell’s SUV when the carjacking happened in his parents’ driveway in the Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond. Tobey testified before the board that she distinctly remembers seeing Jones shoot her brother.

“He is the same person today as he was 22 years ago. He’s still getting into trouble. He’s still in a gang. He’s still lying. And he still feels no shame, guilt or remorse for his action,” Tobey said. “We need Julius Jones to be held responsible.”

The judge presiding over the Kyle Rittenhouse trial banned MSNBC from the courthouse in Kenosha on Thursday after a person claiming to work for the network was accused of following the jury & attempting to photograph them.

"I have instructed that no one from MSNBC news will be permitted in this building for the duration of this trial. This is a very serious matter & I don't know what the ultimate truth of it is but ultimately, it will go without much thinking that someone who is following the jury bus—that's an extremely serious matter & will be referred to the proper authorities," Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder told the court on Thursday.

Schroeder said police reported that a person, who claimed to work for MSNBC, followed the jury bus on Wednesday evening under the instruction of a supervisor.

The matter is under further investigation at this time, according to the judge.

MSNBC has denied any knowledge of this individual.

Video After The Jump

Gangs are always looking for new ways to launder their money, and in cities like London, Birmingham and Manchester, using money mules has become one of their favorite methods.

Young and vulnerable people are convinced by criminals, often on social media, to let them use their personal bank accounts to receive and send on their illicit earnings. However, there can be serious consequences for those who get involved, from being locked out of the financial system, to even serving time in prison. This crime is still massively under-reported, which in part is what leaves many young people so vulnerable.

VICE investigates this new and booming form of crime and meets the recruiters, the police, and people who have inadvertently got caught up in it.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — FOX13 has obtained photos of two suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of rapper Young Dolph.

The photos have been circulating on social media; FOX13 confirmed their validity with three independent law enforcement sources Thursday.

The photos show two people armed with guns, aiming at a target. One photos shows a vehicle belonging to Young Dolph.

Young Dolph was gunned down Wednesday inside Makeda’s Cookies, a local business he frequented in South Memphis.

The rapper, whose real name was Adolph Robert Thornton, Jr., released his debut studio album, King of Memphis, in 2016.

Known for giving back to the community, he was set to hand out turkeys at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis on Friday between 2-5 p.m.

In a release issued Wednesday, Memphis police called the shooting “senseless” and said, “our hearts go out to the Thornton family and all who were affected by this horrific act of violence.”

Jacob Chansley, the self-described "QAnon Shaman" who infamously marched through the U.S. Capitol with a spear & horned helmet during the Jan. 6 riot, was sentenced Wednesday to 41 months in prison for his role in the attack.

It matches the longest sentence handed down to any Jan. 6 participant, following the 41-month sentence handed down last week to Scott Fairlam, a former mixed martial arts fighter who pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer during the riot.

"What you did here was horrific," Judge Royce Lamberth said during the sentencing hearing. "It is the type of conduct that is so serious that I cannot justify downward departure [from sentencing recommendations]."

Chansley -- who wasn't accused of assaulting law enforcement or destroying property -- pleaded guilty on Sept. 3 to one felony count of unlawfully obstructing an official proceeding.

Chansley, who was almost unrecognizable as he addressed the court in a plain jail-issued dark green jumpsuit, said he was "a good man who broke the law" & implored Judge Lamberth to "judge a tree by its roots" in considering his sentence. "I am in no way, shape, or form a violent criminal. I am not an insurrectionist. I am certainly not a domestic terrorist," he said. "I hope that you see my heart."

"I was wrong for entering the Capitol. I have no excuse -- no excuse whatsoever," Chansley said. "In retrospect, I'd do everything differently on Jan. 6 … I would try with all my heart and soul to stop people."

"I think the hardest part about this is that I know that I'm to blame," he added. "I hope that you see my remorse is genuine."

NEW YORK (AP) — Two men convicted in the assassination of Malcolm X are set to be cleared after more than half a century, with prosecutors now saying authorities withheld evidence in the civil rights leader’s killing, according to a news report Wednesday.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam, who spent decades in prison for the crime, were being exonerated after a nearly two-year investigation by their lawyers and the Manhattan district attorney’s office. A court date is expected Thursday.

“These men did not get the justice that they deserved,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. told the newspaper.

Malcolm X was gunned down as he began a speech in Harlem’s Audubon Ballroom on Harlem’s Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21, 1965.

The two men were then known as Norman 3X Butler and Thomas 15X Johnson. Aziz, 83, was released in 1985. Islam was released two years later and died in 2009.

Video After The Jump

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. (Local10) – Cell phone video from several different angles captured the aftermath of a wild crash Sunday night.

Police radio transmissions revealed the 16-year-old driver who led police on a 20-mile chase from Broward to Miami-Dade in a stolen car was pulled out of the vehicle by officers.

But witnesses are telling Local 10 News the boy was also roughed up.

“You could see them just kicking him in the head, kicking him in the side, kicking him everywhere & it was just total shock,” said one witness.

The teenage suspect had been tied to a carjacking in Hollywood at a gas station on Sheridan Street.

He fled with Hollywood police on his tail & apparently lost control in Northwest Miami-Dade near 62nd Street & 27th Avenue.

Records show that paramedics responded within 5 minutes, checked out the teen & left shortly after.

“There needs to be a better way and that wasn’t the best way to handle that,” said witness Tatiana Lopez.

At some point while in the custody of Miami-Dade police, the 16-year-old became unconscious & died.

“The way they were carrying him, I don’t think they should’ve did it that way because he just came from a car wreck,” said witness Blas Barrios. “I just hope that the truth gets revealed, with what truly happened to that kid.”

Added Lopez: “No matter, that kid, his situation & what he’s going through and whatever he’s doing, he’s a human being at the end of the day.”

It began, prosecutors say, when 2 teenage boys, carrying a grudge between them & the guns to settle it, exchanged gunfire outside a high school football stadium just as a game was winding down in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

It ended with the death of an 8-year-old girl named Fanta Bility — killed not by the 2 boys, but by a barrage of bullets unleashed by 3 police officers on the scene, who began firing toward a car they mistakenly believed was the source of the gunshots.

Now, more than 2 months after the fatal police shooting that shook the small town of Sharon Hill, criminal charges have been brought in the case — but not against the 3 officers. The 3 teenage boys have been charged with first-degree murder for setting in motion the events that led to the death of the girl, a daughter of West African immigrants who was attending the game to watch her sister, a cheerleader & her cousin, one of the football players.

The decision by prosecutors to charge the 2 teenagers, even though they did not fire the shot that killed the girl, while allowing the police officers involved to keep their jobs, has stirred outrage in the community & angered her family who worry that the police will ultimately evade accountability.

The charges rely on a legal theory known as “transferred intent,” which prosecutors believe applies in this case because they say the 2 teenagers had intended to kill each other & the result of their actions was Fanta’s death. But experts say prosecutors are stretching the definition of “transferred intent” & could have difficulty making the charges stand up in court.
