ATLANTA – It's a ritual that seems to play out at least once a year in the rap community: A top star faces a criminal charge, and more often than not, is locked up at the height of their wealth and fame.

Lil Wayne is the latest example. On Tuesday, he is to be sentenced on a weapons charge, and will likely face one year behind bars. He is arguably rap's most popular figure, a Grammy-winning, top-selling superstar whose clever rhymes permeate through rap, pop and more recently, rock.

He joins a long list of rap stars who have gotten caught up in the criminal justice system; perhaps the most prominent prison poster child was Tupac Shakur, who went to jail in 1995 as he was on the verge of superstardom. It begs the question: After all these years, why are hip-hop's top stars still finding themselves on the path to prison?

"People seem to think they are smarter than the system or that person's fate is not their fate," says Chaka Zulu, co-founder of Ludacris' Disturbing tha Peace label. "Some people say, 'Oh no, that'll never happen to me. He just got caught slippin.'"

T.I., another one of rap's top sellers, reported to a federal prison in 2009 for his conviction on weapons charges. He spent time in an Arkansas prison and is currently at a halfway house in Georgia.

Some thought rappers would learn from T.I.'s situation, which once again proved that the top stars of hip-hop aren't above the law.

Apparently, the lesson has not been learned.

"Hopefully this isn't a cycle that next year from now we're seeing our top rappers in jail," Elliott Wilson, founder of the hip-hop Web site RapRadar.com, says. "Ultimately, it is a black eye to the culture I'm passionate about. Hopefully, the artists of tomorrow won't make the same mistakes as the ones of today."

While rap is a genre born of the gritty streets, and drugs and violence have long played a prominent role, many rap stars find themselves facing their greatest — and sometimes their first — legal hurdles after they become successes, like Lil Wayne.

Besides his scheduled court date in New York next week, he is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on March 30 on felony drug possession and weapons charges stemming from a January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.

"The whole rockstar fantasy is to be the bad boy, to do whatever and not get caught. These artists are reaching a level of fame, but dealing with real consequences for their actions," Wilson says.

Lil Wayne joins a group of rappers with legal woes over the past year, from Gucci Mane to Soulja Boy to popular music producer Shawty Redd, who faces a charge of murder in Georgia.

In the history of hip-hop, other popular rappers such as Slick Rick, Shakur, Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Remy Ma, Beanie Sigel, Shyne, Mystikal and C-Murder have spent a few months to several years in prison. Snoop Dogg was acquitted of murder; Diddy faced jail time but he was acquitted on bribery and weapons charges in 2001 stemming from a club shooting. His protege, Shyne, wasn't as lucky and was convicted in the same case and sentenced to 10 years; he was recently deported after his release from prison.

In January, Soulja Boy was given a year of probation on obstruction after he fled from a Georgia vacant house. Shawty Redd was arrested on New Year's Day and charged with murder after a man was slain in his home. Ja Rule still faces a gun possession charge from 2007.

Gucci Mane spent time in jail on a few occasions, most notably for hitting a promoter in the head with a pool cue in 2005 and for violating his probation stemming from his assault conviction. In 2005, he was jailed on a murder charge, but the charges were dropped because of lack of evidence. He was also arrested for possession of firearm, marijuana and DUI.

Now, Gucci Mane is back in prison again to serve a six-month term after a probation violation last year. The rapper, whose recent album "The State vs. Radric Davis" released in December while he was behind bars, acknowledged that his fast life set him up for failure.

"It was just apart of my life," the rapper said, speaking via telephone from the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, where he is currently serving a six-month term. "My relationship with drugs. My bad decisions. My relationship with partying too much. It was like a friendship I didn't want to let go."

Gucci Mane warns others to avoid his fate.

"Don't keep bumping your head against the wall," he says. "It's a serious situation. It's so many things that happens behind these walls. Think about how to avoid situations so you won't have to come in here."

Every time Zulu hears about a rapper getting arrested, he quickly alerts several of his artists — including Ludacris — about how to avoid making the same mistake.

For Zulu, it's a conversation that has come too frequent.

"We try to prepare them for different scenarios," he says. "You look at it from every aspect on whether you can get out of it or not. Sometimes you meet it head on or alleviate it."

Zulu says he's not sure if hip-hop's top stars will ever stop getting into trouble. He does suggest rappers should take note from Jay-Z, who has steered clear from trouble with the law after being sentenced to three years probation in 1999 for stabbing a record producer at a Manhattan nightclub. Now a global superstar is held in high esteem and has even performed for President Obama at his inauguration.

"It's about choice," Zulu says. "As much as Jay-Z talks about street life in his music, he's making more strategic and more better decisions into those situations now. Let's learn from the good and bad."

Two teenage thieves in Florida were caught breaking into cars after inadvertently calling 911 on themselves.

Kristian Amezquita, 13, and Stefanie Vargas, 19 can be heard talking to each other on the call, with Vargas giving instructions like.

Bring that back and check the glove compartment. If there is nothing there, leave it. Trust me, God always works in mysterious ways. If you be greedy, that’s when you get caught up, all right.”

Daytona Beach police soon found the two idiots in the parking lot of a strip club where Kristian's sister who is also Vargas' girlfriend was inside dancing.

The pair tried to run, but were soon caught and arrested.

Kristian's mom dragged him in front of Fox tv cameras to explain why he did it. Check the video below.

Stinky cities

There's funk, like George Clinton, and there's funk, like an overcrowded subway car. According to George Preti, Ph.D., of the Monell Chemical Senses Center, only one is caused by a complex cocktail of sweat, skin and bacteria. Under the right conditions — hot, muggy weather, dry skin, stress and smoke — this aromatic stew can thrive and create body odor, Preti says. Assessing climate history and smoking data, we ranked the smelliest regions in the U.S. See if your city made the list.

No. 7: Yuma, Ariz.

Serious sweating in the summer, plus lots of dead, dry skin (thanks to desert conditions), makes Yuma a haven for the bacteria on the skin that causes body odor.

No. 6: San Antonio, Texas

Forget the Alamo. Remember the deo — deodorant, that is. The second sweatiest city on Old Spice's list is blazing-hot in the summer months, and its citizens are in the top ranks of smokers.

No. 5: New Orleans, La.

The Big Easy's fragrant, eau de Post-Party Frat Basement scent doesn't help matters. It's also a very sweaty city, with high temperatures and humidity year-round. And it's a smoker's paradise — the state tax on cigarettes is low, and the public smoking ban doesn't extend to bars. About 20 percent of adults in this city smoke.

No. 4: Chicago, Ill.

Stress sweat — the kind released from apocrine sweat glands around your pits and privates — is the smelliest kind. As the number one most stressed out city in the U.S., according to a Forbes Magazine survey, with a high percentage of smokers (about 1 in 5 Chicagoans light up), the Windy City might need a little fresh air

No. 3: Phoenix, Ariz.

It's the sweatiest city in America, according to the Old Spice Top 20 All-Time Sweatiest Cities — with a painful 105 degree average temp in the summer. The dry, desert climate also means lots of parched, dead skin — an epidermal buffet for B.O.-causing bacteria.

No. 2: Houston, Texas

This swampy metropolis has one of the hottest summer temperature averages and chart-topping, year-round humidity — ideal conditions for a Texas-size stink.

No. 1: Las Vegas, Nev.

Sin City? Try Stink City. A scorching, dry summer heat makes it one of the sweatiest cities in the U.S., according to the Old Spice Top 20 All-Time Sweatiest Cities. Pack-a-day puffing residents (nearly one-quarter of the people smoke) also make for a smelly population.

UFC fighter Chuck Liddell and his new gal pal Heidi Northcott were filmed by some dude from the bushes working out butt naked together.

Turns out they knew all about it. According to TMZ the footage has something to do with a viral campaign for sports giant Reebok who sponsors Chuck.

My only question is how did the footage leak and why is the guy filming breathing like a stalker from a horror movie ?

Hip-hop stars and jewelry go hand in hand. But, athletes -- with their deep pockets -- also blow a lot of cash on shiny custom pieces as well.

One of the most ridiculous pieces we've seen, as of late, comes from Boston Celtics guard Marquis Daniels, who dropped a pretty penny on a custom, diamond encrusted replica of his own head.

The NBA baller recently enlisted popular jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills, whose clientele boasts actresses such as Jessica Alba as well as rappers like Lil Jon, for a piece modeled after his own face.

The bling was made using "3D laser-imaging process that took place in the making of the face and head weighing in at over 1,300 grams of 14k gold," the jewelers said on their blog.

It also contains "flawless black, white and cognac diamonds" that "encase a set of life-like porcelain eyes, similar to those used in Madame Tussauds' wax museum figures."

While the cost of the custom piece was not disclosed, it looks to at least a six-figure amount.

To check out more work from the folks over at Jason of Beverly Hills, visit them online at JasonofBH.com.

Check out the video below to see the process of creating the insane piece:

Kid Cudi is enjoying the benefits that becoming a success in the music business brings. However, there is a downside to the fame that Cudi is stuggling with.

The Ohio MC chopped it up with Rap-Up recently about situations that make him uneasy.

"When people follow you, and you can tell when they’re following you, and you’re going to shop or eat and people are staring, it’s the typical thing, but then it’s like, ‘C’mon, am I really that famous?’ You have to ask yourself that.” Kudi says

He's quick to clarify that he loves his fans and is happy to meet and greet them.

I always stop, shake a hand, say ‘Whattup,’ take a picture if someone wants to take a picture, or sign something,”

Still, it's something about the intense glare of the spotlight that doesn't sit well with him.

I’m not Justin Timberlake; I’m just this dude and I never tried to make myself seem larger than life. What you see is what you get in my music. I just don’t really understand it in my brain, so that’s why it’s kinda creepy.”

In some ways it's understandable how the mind can play tricks on you when you have people falling all over you one minute. Then the next you're getting detained and swarmed by police in L.A. because you "fit the description". Which is what happened to Cudi recently in the City Of Angels.

Bottom line though, you have to accept everything that comes along with being famous. If not it might be time to find another line of work.

Less than a week after officially joining Twitter, it looks like Lil Wayne may now give up on the micro-blogging service. He sent word on Thursday (February 25) that he's going to stop using Twitter because the feedback led him to believe his messages weren't wanted.

"Gunna stop with the tweets now that I see they're so unliked," Wayne wrote. "It's a mirror of my thoughts, and obviously my thoughts aren't [welcome]. Sorry."

The rapper has only posted 18 times so far, but the sporadic tweets have been a mix of testing the waters and cryptic dispatches that are as loaded as his rhymes.

"Love is a road without signs, yet we still drive bekuz we kan only imagine what's ahead," he wrote on Wednesday.

While the Cash Money Records superstar's presence on Twitter has been supported by many — he already has over 172,000 followers — it appears he's been reading responses to his tweets that aren't very flattering.

Comedian Lil Duval has joked about the rapper's philosophical tweets at Wayne's expense. "I just found out Lil Wayne has a Twitter," he wrote. "I just read his page, and I don't have a clue bout what he's talking 'bout."

Duval then started the hash tag #LilWayneDeepTweets.

"When walking thru a path we see................the road," the comedian wrote, mocking Wayne's style.

Other Twitter members then followed with an array of imitated Lil Wayne tweets. "I stood outside," the 305 wrote. "Does that make me outstanding?"

But Wayne's fans have rallied with #weezydontleave. "You got me up at 3.30AM," DorinaFbaby, a fan from Australia, wrote. "Barely awake beggin you to stay!"

Next week, the rapper is expected to be sentenced to one year in prison after reaching a plead deal in his 2007 gun case. Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted gun possession and was set to begin his incarceration earlier this month, but a judge allowed a postponement due to dental surgery Wayne needed. Last week, he underwent eight root canals in one day.

Whitney was performing her hit "I Will Always Love You" during a show Monday night and barely made it through the song.

Looking like someone had poured a bucket of water on her. The sweat drenched singer had to take a long break to get a drink and gather herself before attempting to hit a few high notes.

It wasn't a very happy 27th birthday for singer Juelz Santana: Sources say his blowout bash on Monday night was ruined by Snoop Dogg and several other rowdy partygoers.

An insider spotted Snoop arriving at the fete at M2 Ultralounge with an entourage of more than 20 and a four-man security team, which clogged W. 29th St. so badly that the NYPD came to investigate.

"Snoop's caravan was beyond outrageous," says the spy. "It was taking up the entire block."

The scene was so disastrous that police closed the street before many guests had even arrived.

Among the friends of Santana unable to get through the mess was none other than Diddy, who was to host the evening.

"When Diddy saw how chaotic it was, he refused to get out of the car," the insider says. "He said he'd come back later, but never did."

That's probably a good thing. More chaos ensued inside the club when a partygoer knocked a bottle off a VIP table, sending glass flying and triggering a major brawl.

"There was a fight that took over much of the VIP area, and because it was so crowded, it took a little while to break up," the source says, adding that both Santana (who sings the hit "There It Go") and rapper Maino were near the altercation but didn't get involved. "It was total madness."

The only person who DID have a good time? The oblivious Snoop, who held court at his own table and was seen dancing with Lil' Kim while security removed the brawlers.

But he did make it up to his buddy Santana by the end of the night. An M2 insider says Snoop bought $8,000 worth of Champagne for the singer's table before leaving with his entourage.

Fox's hit show American Idol took a couple shots this week from someone who knows what she is talking about.

R&B diva Patti Labelle told the Associated Press that the judging panel could use an overhaul.

"Some of the judges, I don't think they're qualified to even judge," she said in an interview Wednesday.

While she wasn't specific about one particular judge, her comments mirror what a lot of fans already think.

Idol added a fourth judge to the competition last year. A move that doesn't appear to have made a real difference in the quality of the show.

Paula Abdul, who was the only judge to have had a singing career before Kara DioGuardi was added, left the show before this season started.

Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres are in charge of finding this year's Idol.

Ms Labelle thinks they are out of line with some of their criticisms of the singers.

"The comments that were made, they could make you like wanna kill yourself," the 65-year-old singer said.

Her advice to anyone trying out for the show is "If you believe in yourself, just go for it. What do you have to lose? And when people tell you 'You can't,' you have to say, 'I can.'"

Ty Fyffe is a well known producer who has crafted hit singles for artists like Jay-Z, Drake, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J and many others.

Aspiring rappers can visit the producer’s official website www.tyfyffe.com and select a “survival kit” to record a song for submission.

If the track is selected, it will be featured on Raw N’ Uncut, an album produced by Ty Fyffe and hosted by DJ Kay Slay.

The project will then be distributed over the Internet as a free download.

"This is a chance of a life-time and I am not into co-signing just anything," Kay Slay added.

The first single from Raw N’ Uncut will be premiered on DJ Kay Slay’s Shade 45 show Street Sweepers Radio in addition to his Drama Hour show on Hot 97.

When you think of West Coast rappers the name Ice Cube has to be one of the first that comes to mind. From his days with NWA to his legendary solo career nobody has done it better.

While in recent years he has become almost as well known for his movie career as rapping. Putting the mic down has never been an option.

With an eye on bringing the West back to prominence, he's announced via his blog that he's about to release a new album.

"I AM THE WEST...is the name of my new record. After completing about 65% of my music, this is the perfect title. This sh*t is cocky, no apologies, West Coast gangsta sh*t. I can't help it. That's what I do. June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We'll see how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of my photoshoot and artwork. I want to provide early merch before the drop date.

For 7 or 8 years now the West Coast has been trying to do music that appeals to the South and Mid-West. The words, "too West Coast" would be heard throughout the industry whenever our music was played. Even by our own dj's. Left coast MC's were now trying to change their sound to cater to all the followers. We lost our way. Thank God for b-boys like Snoop, The Game & WC for keeping the West alive, but we were all guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I feel it; not how I think it should be done. Radio f*cked us up. I hate the politics at radio. I don't know who to pay to get my sh*t played. Having a hot song is not enough. Ridiculous.

I AM THE WEST. It's coming...

Nicki Minaj's latest string of guest appearances have garnered her plenty of attention — actress Michelle Trachtenberg even posted a vlog of herself singing Nick's verse to Robin Thicke's "Shakin' it 4 Daddy." The blogs are also buzzing about her verse (and Freddy Krueger look) in the Ludacris "My Chick Bad" video, as well as her appearance in the Mariah Carey "Up Out My Face" clip.

Will these famous collaborators return the favor and jump on Minaj's debut LP?

"I'm sure they will. You know what's funny — I thinking I'm gonna have more features than I even wanna put on my album," she told MTV News recently. "I've gotten great feedback from artists I look up to and never thought I'd work with. They're already in line to be on the project. But it's like, 'Do I want to put out a debut album with a 1,000 features on it or do I wanna finally showcase Nicki?' I'm not worried about features at all because I've been blessed to come in the game and work with top-notch artists from the inception of my career."

Those guest appearances and her verses on the Young Money album will have to tide her fans over for the time being — she's just getting around to recording her album.

"I'm the very beginning stage of the recording process of my album," she explained. "I have songs that where I am now, they aren't a great representation of me to where I'm at musically. I wanna start from scratch but I do have my single and it'll be out. It's gonna be 'Massive Attack.'

"With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it," she added. "With the album, I think it's more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don't even know what a female rapper does. We're so not used to seeing it. It's nonexistent in categories. We don't get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come. Honestly, I'd love to put an album out this year, but I don't believe in rushing things either. We'll see."

He revealed: 'One of his favourite things is to hear the piano. Jennifer will play the piano or sing to him, and he will calm down immediately.

'We had a guy over once tuning the piano and he was pecking the keys, and David started trying to sing and imitate the notes. It was the most unbelievable thing.

Central Falls, RI - The Central Falls school board has voted in favor of firing the entire high school teaching staff. However, the teachers are not going quietly.

This has been an angry battle - a teachers union vs. a superintendent of a struggling school district where something had to change - in this case, perhaps the most drastic decision in Rhode Island education history.

One by one their names were read, as if it were classroom roll call.

But these were teachers - all 88 at Central Falls High School in Rhode Island will be fired, effective at the end of the school year.

"I'm after school every day, I'm always available. I'm heartbroken. I'd do anything for this school system, I've done everything I can," said teacher Frank Delbonis.

"It's not motivating me to come to school anymore," student Kelyn Salazar said through tears. "It's not going to change any student's mind of learning."

Teachers cried alongside their students after hearing the results of the state-appointed Board of Trustees vote.

They had hoped an afternoon rally attended by hundreds of Rhode Island union members including teachers from other districts would help save their jobs.

"I've been in Central Falls for 28 years and I've done nothing to deserve to be fired. Absolutely nothing. I give my heart and my soul to my job," athletic director and math teacher Kathy Luther said.

But how did it come to this unprecedented action in the state of Rhode Island and perhaps the nation?

At one square mile, Central Falls is the state's smallest and one of its poorest communities.

It has also ranked in the lowest 5 percent of districts in the state year after year meaning the federal government gave Superintendent Frances Gallo 4 choices:
- Shut the school
- have it taken over as a charter school
- follow a transformation model,
including longer school days and teachers eating lunch with students
- or what's called a turn around plan, fire all the teachers at the end of the year
.

After the union didn't sign off on option three, she went with option four.

"I thought I moved substantially away from my initial design and request and apparently it wasn't good enough," Superintendent Dr. Frances Gallo said.

"We don't take lightly that our scores are low. Everyone acknowledges that we have work to do,"Central Falls Teachers' Union President Jane Sessums said.

But despite recent improvement, those numbers are alarming - only 7 percent of high school kids are proficient in math standards and 52 percent drop out before graduation.

"Yeah, we do have work to do. We do. But we have raised our reading scores 21 percent in two years," said French teacher Hope Evanoff.

In the end, that modest improvement was not good enough.

Rhode Island's Commissioner of Education Deborah Gist already signed off on this earlier today.

Some of these teachers might get their jobs back.

Part of the stipulation is that not more than 50 percent can get rehired, but all are able to apply.

The teachers who lose their jobs can also apply to other openings in the district.
