A New York teacher is accused of "manipulating" a 5th-grade girl into changing her gender without parents' knowledge or consent, causing "suicidal ideation," a lawsuit claims.

Debra Rosenquist, works at Terryville Road Elementary School & was named along with the superintendent, Jennifer J. Quinn, & the principal, Annemarie V. Sciove, in a suit filed on Jan. 23.

The suit claims the student, who was assigned female at birth & identifies as female, was targeted by her teacher, Rosenquist, throughout the 2021-2022 school year. Rosenquist began to use a male name & pronouns for the student, the suit says.

"Rosenquist pursued her own agenda outside the curriculum, which included persuading her 5th-grade students to try ‘being gay’ or being another gender even when they were not. Rosenquist read & provided her students graphic books about gender & sexuality," the suit said.

One of the books Rosenquist used was "When Aidan Became a Brother."

In the book, Aidan's mother admits she made a mistake misgendering her son, saying, "When you were born, we didn't know you were going to be our son. We made some mistakes, but you helped us fix them."

The parents were supportive of supporting their child discovering their identity, but they did not believe their daughter expressed a desire to change her gender on her own.

"Debra Rosenquist manipulated a pre-teen female into changing her gender identity when the child did not feel any inclination to do so," the parents' attorney says. "The parents did not learn about what Rosenquist was forcing upon their daughter until it was discovered that the child had suicidal ideations."

The 5th-grade girl became so "distressed by Rosenquist’s referring to her as a male that she drew a picture of a girl & referenced suicide," the lawsuit said. In January 2022, the parents were informed that their daughter drew a picture of a girl with the words "I wanna kill myself" & "I feel sad like a lot."

NEW YORK (AP) — The spread of monkeypox in the U.S. could represent the dawn of a new sexually transmitted disease, though some health officials say the virus that causes pimple-like bumps might yet be contained before it gets firmly established.

Experts don’t agree on the likely path of the disease, with some fearing that it is becoming so widespread that it is on the verge of becoming an entrenched STD — like gonorrhea, herpes & HIV.

But no one’s really sure & some say testing & vaccines can still stop the outbreak from taking root.

So far, more than 2,800 U.S. cases have been reported as part of an international outbreak that emerged 2 months ago. About 99% have been men who reported having sex with other men.

Health officials are not sure how fast the virus has spread.

With such huge question marks, predictions about how big the U.S. outbreak will get this summer vary widely, from 13,000 to perhaps more than 10 times that number.

Monkeypox is endemic in parts of Africa, where people have been infected through bites from rodents or small animals. It does not usually spread easily among people.

But this year more than 15,000 cases have been reported in countries that historically don’t see the disease.

It spreads mainly through skin-to-skin contact, but it can also be transmitted through linens used by someone with monkeypox.

Symptoms include fever, body aches, chills, fatigue & the bumps on parts of the body. The illness has been relatively mild in many men & no one has died in the U.S. But people can be contagious for weeks & the lesions can be extremely painful.

NY Daily News Reports Hey, Omarosa - you're inspired? The reality show bad girl, best known for her appearances with Donald Trump on "The Apprentice," began studies this week to become a minister. The swap of reality for spirituality began Monday at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Omarosa is studying for a doctorate of ministry. When Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth arrived at the seminary, President Wendy Deichmann greeted her with a gift: A mustard seed. The present referred to the biblical Parable of the Mustard Seed, where Jesus Christ compares the kingdom of heaven to a tiny seed that blossoms into something much bigger. "Very few people have faith in my transformation, so this is a wonderful gift," Omarosa told her. The doubters may have caught her villainous act on "The Apprentice" or another reality show, "The Surreal Life." And even Omarosa herself was a little nervous about the move. "First day of school jitters," she wrote on her Twitter page. Omarosa is studying the Old and New Testaments, along with the history of Christianity. Her education also requires field work among the sick and dying at local hospitals.

NYDailyNews Reports Boxer Rob Newbiggin will fight for the last time Aug. 14 - as a man, that is. The Southport, England, boxer will undergo a sex change operation, after which he will be a female known as Mercedes, The Southport Visiter reported. Newbiggin, born in Pennsylvania in 1964, had the anatomy of a male but high levels of the female hormone estrogen, which mean he could not be definitively classified as either sex. His parents abandoned him, and he was adopted at age 2 1/2 by Ted Newbiggin and his wife, who had immigrated to Canada from Manchester, England. Around age 12, Newbiggin picked up boxing, after his father encouraged him to act more masculine. “My dad said that I had to act like a man because people wouldn't accept me as anything else,” the younger Newbiggin told the Southport Visiter. “He was trying to protect me. I didn't find out I was adopted until I was 16, and then about how I was born, but then it all started making sense to me,” he said. Newbiggin's announcement was first printed in the daily tabloid The Sun, and he said afterward he had “lost every friend I have ever had in the world in this town.” “My friends don't want to know me. I’ve got people winding their windows down shouting abuse at me while I go for my run – that’s why we are having to relocate. I have to think about my kids,” the boxer said. As far as his kids are concerned, Newbiggin says sex will have no bearing on his ability to be a parent, and he might even do better as a woman. “When it comes to my kids, it doesn't matter whether I’m a mother or a father as long as I’m a good parent,” he said. “And I think I'll be a better parent as a woman. I haven't provided enough financial stability in my male life for my children.” He and his wife, Emma, who have been married for three years, are going to stay together, Newbiggin said, and added that she has been extremely supportive. “I am so lucky in that respect because she understands what I'm going through.” After becoming Mercedes, Newbiggin said, he hopes to have a future in modeling, painting and interior design. He also said he plans to apply for a boxing license as a female to continue his career. Newbiggin said he has been flooded with supportive correspondence from people whom his story has moved to come forward. “So our family’s sacrifice of our privacy is already working to help others, and that’s what this whole things is about.”
