Skip Jourdan, who plays guitar at Remnant Ministries, has missed only three Sundays in three years.

He knew where he had to be Tuesday night.

Jourdan was among 30 to 40 church members who quickly assembled at the church on Windmill Lane as news spread about the death of Randall Cunningham's 2½-year-old son. Cunningham, the former UNLV and NFL star quarterback, is pastor of Remnant Ministries.

"This is why you have a church family," Jourdan said. "This is why you belong to something like this. I can't imagine trying to go through something like this and not having a church family. Who are you going to turn to?"

Christian Cunningham, who would have been 3 in December, died after being found floating in the backyard hot tub, according to friends of the family. Randall Cunningham performs baptisms in the hot tub at his home, which is near the church.

A woman at Cunningham's house was with several children when she found the boy at about 4:30 p.m., Las Vegas police Lt. Dennis Flynn said. She removed the boy from the hot tub and began performing CPR. Paramedics took the child to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena campus, where he died, Flynn said.

Abuse and neglect detectives were investigating the incident at the house on the 300 block of East Robindale Road, near Paradise Road. Flynn said the drowning appeared to be an accident.

"We know healing is going to take time," said one church member, who said she goes by the name Miss Happy. "We ask that everyone pray for the family. It hurts. It hurts."

Cunningham was believed to be in San Diego or on his way back at the time of the drowning.

Members of the church congregation gathered that night and shared stories, prayed and cried. They talked about Christian learning to speak, playing football and constantly smiling and having fun.

"He touched the lives of anybody who stood there and watched him," Miss Happy said. "He's one of those little kids like, 'I'll take you home with me.' I can sit here and talk all day about Christian."

Cunningham generally is considered the greatest player in UNLV history. He still holds the record with 8,020 career passing yards.

From there, he put together a 16-year NFL career that included four Pro Bowl selections. Cunningham also is largely credited with making quarterback a more mobile position.

He became an ordained minister in 2004 and opened Remnant Ministries later that year.

He and his wife, Felicity, have three other children: Randall II, Vashti and Grace.

Eminem recently spoke with Vibe about being left off of MTV's Hottest MC's of 2009 list, why he didn't release 'Relapse 2' and not looking at the song "Forever" as a competition between himself and the other rappers.

VIBE: How'd you feel about the response to "Forever"?

Eminem: The response was great. I didn’t really look it like I’m competing against these guys. I’m on a record with them, but I just wanted to make a good song. Certainly, the response helped, as far as me being able to feel good about myself again. It took me so long to just even be able to do that. I was pretty down for a few years. I went through some things and not just with addiction, some personal setbacks and I was down. Just being able to get back up again feels good. I think everything played a factor of where I’m at now.

On Recovery, you have this one line on “25 to Life” where you talk about taking control of your relationship with hip-hop. How have you done that?

What the whole song is saying is that I have a strange relationship with hip-hop because I love it so much. I go through this thing in my head a lot, which I’m sure every rapper does, where you give your life to this thing. You literally give everything that you got. I come to work some days wearing the same thing two days in a row—baggy sweats—just dedicating my life to this. And there are times that I feel like I get the respect that I deserve and there are times where I feel like I don’t.

Like when MTV excluded you from their Hottest MCs of 2009 list?

That hottest MC list that I was left off, it was one of those things that I was glad that I am at where I'm at. I’m glad I’m in this place now, because a few years ago I would've let it bother me more than it did. I took it not as a slap in the face but more so like, "Maybe I’m not on that list for a reason. Maybe I’m not doing the things that I need to be doing. Maybe I need to look at myself and step it up." I don’t know what I would have thought being in the mind state that I was in. I just felt like maybe I need to do better.

As a person, are you proud of yourself?

I handle things a lot differently now. I’m proud to be able to say that I’m an addict without any shame in it. I’m proud that I’m able to admit that I have a problem with a certain thing and I have to leave it alone and accept it. I’m proud that I’m strong enough to be able to walk away form those things.

When did you realize that? During rehab? Therapy?

I got some tools in rehab when I went in 2005. I got the tools that I need, I just didn’t use them. I got the information, the analysis—I don’t know if that’s the word—of my personality. What type of person I am, why I have this addictive behavior, why I need instant gratification from certain things, why I feel a certain way because my childhood was this way or that way. I got all of those tools, which made me understand why I had to leave that stuff alone. But I didn’t use it and that’s why I went back to it.

Why did you decide not to release the songs you'd planned for Relapse 2?

On a record like the new record, when I mention the third verse of “Talking to Myself,” I try to sum up the last two records in a nutshell. Mr. Porter, who produced “On Fire,” had this analogy of Encore and Relapse that stuck with me: “Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushing them out.” His view on Relapse was that I was flushing the drugs out my system and looking back at it, I probably was. My mind was coming back, my writing skills were coming back, so I was able to write again because I had writer’s block from the pills. I was backed up. I was writing so much and so quickly that I didn’t have a chance to stop and say, Are these good songs? Are they great songs? I was just going. I was like, 'I got so much material for three albums, but let’s narrow it down to two. Let’s put out Relapse 2 months later. That was the original plan. There are so many drug references on the last album; that’s just where my head was at. I came to life again and everything was like new. When they say 'in recovery' or 'in rehab', it’s like being born again when you get clean and sober. You start appreciating shit that you never thought you would appreciate, like, 'Wow, look at those trees. Look at nature.' Before, it didn’t matter. I just started appreciating things more. I got happy when I got sober, broke free from the chains—not to sound corny. I broke free from the chains of addiction and it was just like 'Ahh, I’m happy again. I’m not a prisoner.' I was just happy to be back.

In these tough economic times, it's reassuring to know that a 17-year-old with big dreams, a raspy voice and a penchant for skimpy stage outfits can pull in more cash than most small countries.

Yes, Forbes magazine has announced its list of the 100 most powerful celebrities in the world, and the usual suspects, many of whom are so culturally omnipresent they go by a single name, are all there: Oprah (No. 1), Beyonce (No. 2), Bono (U2, No. 7), Madonna (No. 10). This year's crop is especially notable, however, for the new faces that made the list -- with Lady Gaga landing at No. 4 and 'Twilight' stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart debuting at Nos. 50 and 66, respectively.

Forbes weighs money earned with the amount of press coverage a star receives when compiling its list of the year's most powerful stars. So it's really no surprise that O takes the top spot again -- her third time atop the list in the last four years. In the last year, she earned $315 million and announced the expansion of her media empire with the upcoming launch of OWN -- The Oprah Winfrey Network.

With album sales at record lows, every musician in the top 20 earned the vast majority of their income from touring revenue. Beyonce pulled in $87 million with her 'I Am' world tour and multiple endorsement deals. Madonna, whose 'Sticky & Sweet Tour' is the top grosser ever for a solo artist, earned upwards of $58 million from the road show's 2009 summer leg. Britney Spears ranked No. 6 this year on the strength of her 'Circus' world tour, which grossed $130 million and was 2009's fifth biggest show.

Like pop mama Madge, Gaga earned most of her cash ($62 million) on the road. Combined with intense media coverage of her every move and a slew of lucrative endorsement deals, the pantless one came in at No. 4, the highest debut on the list.

Also making their first appearances, Pattinson and Stewart, who earned $17 million and $12 million, respectively, and saw themselves become prime tabloid fodder courtesy of a rumored romance. Expect both to appear on the Forbes list for some time: The final book in the 'Twilight Saga,' 'Breaking Dawn,' will be split up into two separate films, and the franchises latest flick, 'Eclipse,' hits theaters tomorrow.

After what was undoubtedly a rough year personally, Sandra Bullock can take comfort in her enormous professional successes. Bullock ranked at No. 8, having scored two hit movies, 'The Blind Side' and 'The Proposal,' and an Oscar win. Last year, she came in at No. 98, making hers the biggest jump on the list.

As for the aforementioned 17 year old, Miley Cyrus, she came in at No. 13 with $48 million earned. Like Gaga -- and Madonna and Britney and Beyonce -- we assume she did not spend much of it on pants.

And just how much did the lowest earner on the list, No. 99's Jennifer Love Hewitt, rake in from June 1, 2009, to June 1, 2010, you ask? A mere $6.5 million. Somehow we imagine she'll manage just fine.

Celebrity earnings appear to be unaffected by the world financial crisis, as the stars on the Forbes list banked about $4.7 billion this year, up from $4.1 billion last year. This also marks the first year the mag has included a social media ranking, which reflected each celebrity's involvement with Facebook and Twitter.

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) – Eminem will blast in at No. 1 on the U.S. pop album chart on Wednesday with the biggest week for a single release since 2008, according to sales data from Nielsen SoundScan.

"Recovery," the follow-up to the rapper's 2009 album "Relapse," sold 741,000 copies during the week ended Sunday, enough to become his sixth consecutive No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart

.

AC/DC did better in October 2008 when "Black Ice" debuted at No. 1 with 784,000 copies. Meanwhile, "Relapse" began at No. 1 in 2009 with 608,000 copies.

Eminem's new album also wowed digitally, as downloads made up 255,000 units of the first-week tally. That's the second-biggest digital week for an album in history. Only Coldplay's "Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" notched a larger frame, when it debuted with 288,000 downloads in the summer of 2008.

Eminem also naturally made big news on the Digital Songs chart with his "Love the Way You Lie," his collaboration with Rihanna. It debuted at No. 1 with 338,000 downloads sold. It's the sixth time Eminem has topped the Digital Songs chart and the second time he's done it this year, following "Not Afraid's" entry atop the list back in May with 379,000.

Full Billboard 200 sales data will be issued on Wednesday.

TROUBLED pop star BRITNEY SPEARS faces a probe into allegations that she abused her two young sons.

Social workers will quiz her over claims she beat one with a belt and gave both food they were allergic to - making them violently ill.

Investigators were approached by the singer's former bodyguard FERNANDO FLORES - who claims he was forced to quit his job due to Britney's erratic behaviour.

Brit W/Fernando Flores & Jayden

It is understood that the 28-year-old star strongly denies the claims and insists she has never mistreated four-year-old SEAN PRESTON and JAYDEN JAMES, three.

Star's home ... Britney's Beverley Hills mansion

But Flores, 29, has told the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services he feels Britney is too unstable to be left in charge of her sons.

He fears her behaviour could scar for life the youngsters - who split their time between Toxic singer Britney's Beverly Hills mansion and dad KEVIN FEDERLINE's home.

A source said: "Britney doesn't mean to be a bad mum. But Flores feels she has so many issues she can't be trusted around her boys.

"He claims the first really shocking incident was when she came marching into the pool house at her mansion and demanded his belt.

"He handed it over but then followed her into the main house and claims he witnessed the alleged incident."

Flores also accused Britney of feeding the boys food they were allergic to, including shellfish.

The alleged incidents took place in late March or early April.

This month The Sun revealed how Flores claimed Britney constantly walked round naked and sexually harassed him.

Child protection agency workers tried to quiz her last week but she had left LA for a few days.

Britney temporarily lost custody of the boys two years ago after suffering a massive breakdown.

Kanye West made a big impression when he opened the BET Awards by performing “Power” atop a volcano. But Kanye’s presence wasn’t the only big thing on stage. The rapper’s enormous jewelry also caught the eye of viewers.

Jacob & Co. created a custom-made link chain and charm depicting Egyptian god Horus, as well as a four-finger pyramid ring, for Mr. West’s comeback performance. Both are made of 24k yellow gold.

According to Kanye’s blog, Horus is one of the oldest and most significant deities in the ancient Egyptian religion. Horus served many functions in the Egyptian pantheon, most notably being god of the sky, god of war, and god of protection.

Kanye’s monstrous chain and ring came with a larger-than-life price tag. Both items retail for a whopping $300,000, a spokesperson for Jacob & Co. tells Rap-Up.com. How’s that for the royal treatment?

In an interview with Rap-Up.com conducted right after the 2010 BET Awards. Singer Lloyd made a comment that raised a few eyebrows regarding Chris Brown's emotional Michael Jackson Tribute.

"I told him, man you gotta go up there, you gotta cry. You gotta really show your heart to the world," Lloyd said at the time.

Lloyd took to his blog, YoungGoldie.com to clarify that statement.

“I consider Chris a friend. He's been through a lot in the past couple years. I never told him to go on stage and cry. We spoke recently, and I told him as a friend that people hadn't really seen him be vulnerable about his situation last year [with Rihanna]. I thought he was holding back and needed to let that emotion out. Him crying at the BET Awards was real, I could feel it.” said Lloyd.

Many critics and cynics have slammed Chris' performance as being "over the top" and "fake", but Lloyd didn't see it that way at all.

“I think he cried about a number of things. About the fact that he thought people would hate him forever because of one mistake. Feeling that love on stage was probably overwhelming. Plus MJ being gone and him performing "Man in the Mirror", that song is powerful, especially for his situation. It pushed him over the edge.”

Finally Lloyd addressed the many bloggers that thought he was taking a sarcastic shot at Chris when he said "I told him to cry".

“To say that he was faking or that I'm hating on him, that's some bull sh*t. Last week Essence.com asked me what artist most embodied MJ. I told them it was Chris. I never saw MJ perform live, but he [Chris Brown] is the closest thing I've witnessed. Chris is back, and I'm just as excited as his fans are. It's just frustrating that people want to make everything negative.”

With that, maybe everyone can finally put this issue to rest.

Anna Chapman's story is unfolding like a plot straight out of a James Bond flick.

The beautiful 28-year-old divorcee who says she ran an online real estate company worth $2 million, was one of 11 accused Russian secret agents arrested by FBI agents.

Prosecutors say they were all part of a ring of old-school spies that answered to "Moscow Central"and lived deep undercover as ordinary suburbanites.

Chapman’s Facebook page, on which she also uses the Russian form of her name "Anya,"reveals a photo album of sexy profile pictures that could easily be headshots in a casting call to find the next Bond girl.

Chapman poses in a slinky animal print mini dress in one shot casually holding a cigarette, and a fiery form-fitting scarlett cocktail dress in several others.

The page appears to be still active - a friend posted a link to a Washington Post story detailing her arrest on Tuesday.

The "about me"section features this credo: "If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it."

Five of the suspects, including Chapman, were arrested in New York. Chapman's alleged missions, described in an 18-page court complaint, read like the pages of a spy thriller.

According to the document, she bought a cell phone under the alias "Irine Kustov" and the phony address "99 Fake Street."

FBI agents found the Verizon phone contract and Motorola charger along with packaging for calling cards that can be used for international calls in a trash can after Chapman was arrested, according to the complaint.

The court document also details Chapman's interactions with an undercover FBI agent who fed her instructions for preparing a fake passport to transfer to another female spy.

She was instructed to hold a magazine a certain way to signal the other spy to initiate contact.

Chapman is quoted in the complaint repeating back the following instructions: "Okay, tomorrow at 11, I am going to be sitting at one of the benches, she is going to ask me if she saw me in California. I am going to say no, it was in the Hamptons. I will take the documents, tell her to sign. I will hold the journal, this is how she will recognize me."

She was arrested before the mission was carried out. Chapman appeared in Manhattan federal court on June 28, 2010 with four other alleged spies.

"The evidence here is overwhelming. It is simple. It is strong," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Farbiarz at the hearing.

"This is a Russian agent!" he said, gesturing dramatically at Chapman. Farbiarz went on to call her a "practiced deceiver"and an "extraordinary agent."

The Russian government downplayed the arrests, calling the allegations "baseless and improper."

Beginning as early as 2000, the accused spies were watched meeting on benches in Central Park and Brooklyn, plotting in a Queens restaurant, exchanging computer files wirelessly in a Times Square Starbucks, smoothly switching bags in the Forest Hills, Queens, Long Island Rail Road station and burying money in the ground upstate.

Aside from the New York area, the alleged spies operated in Boston, Seattle and Arlington, Va.

I don't watch wrestling, so I have no idea who this chick Velvet Sky is, but she got real familiar with Hot 97 radio host, Peter Rosenberg. And not in a way he would like to remember.

They were having some kind of debate on wrestling "finishing" moves when Velvet Sky got up and slapped dude across the face.

He was obviously embarrassed, but tried to play it off like it was a joke.

She probably won't get invited back to the show, lol.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge rapper Lil' Boosie appeared in court Monday morning for his initial hearing related to a first-degree murder indictment.

Lil' Boosie, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, stood before Judge Mike Erwin to plead not guilty to the murder. The hearing only lasted about two minutes.

"He's not guilty," said Defense Attorney Marcus Allen. "I think he's absolutely not guilty. I think he meant what he said. He's absolutely not guilty. We're just going to prepare for his defense and get ready to address the charges."

"I'd rather wait for the evidence to speak as to what happened," said District Attorney Hillar Moore. "He's got several different cases, so it depends on which one you're talking about. He also has the introduction of the drugs into the prison and obviously, he's presumed innocent at this point."

Allen also serves as a city prosecutor in Lafayette. He said he plans to meet with other attorneys to assist in Hatch's representation and address the charges once the defense gets the evidence.

"We have no idea what the evidence is at this point. There is a lot of rumors and innuendo going on, so we'll get the evidence and go from there," Allen explained.

The 27-year-old pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and drug charges as well. His girlfriend and two others also pleaded not guilty related to drug charges. Hatch was indicted on June 17 in connection with the shooting death of Terry Boyd.

Security was extremely high at the district courthouse for the arraignment hearings. Moore said this is a "regular case," but admitted it has a received high-profile attention. He also stated his confidence in getting a conviction against the entertainer.

"He's been indicted by the grand jury. We believe the evidence was there to support that indictment. This is one that we're going to try. I'm confident that we're going to win, otherwise, we wouldn't say it," he added.

Hours after a famed Mexican musician told fans he was very much alive – someone killed him.

Sergio Vega, a singer known for songs about Mexico's drug wars, was shot dead on his way to perform a concert in Mexico Saturday, the BBC reports.

Vega, 40, performed under the name "El Shaka" and rose to fame for his catalogue of "narcocorridos," songs that celebrate the culture of Mexico's drug cartels.

Musicians who sing these songs have often become targets of warring drug gangs, and at least seven have been killed in the past three years, the BBC reports.

Vega spoke Saturday to the website La Oreja to deny rumors he had been murdered, Sky News reports.

"It's happened to me for years now, someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I've been killed, or suffered an accident," Vega said. "And then I have to call my dear mum, who has heart trouble, to reassure her."

Only this time, the reports proved prophetic. Vega was reportedly gunned down in a state controlled by the dangerous Sinaloa cartel while driving his red Cadillac Saturday night to play a concert.

Gunmen opened fire on Vega's car, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The gunmen then "finished Mr. Vega off" with shots to the head and chest, according to a report in the Mexican newspaper El Debate.

Vega told several media outlets he had upped his personal security detail after the 2007 slaying of singer Sergio Gomez, frontman for the band K-Paz de la Sierra.

Gomez, a fellow Grupero (or Mexican folk) musician, was kidnapped from a concert and later found strangled.

(CBS) Airline meals are notoriously unappealing, but newly disclosed reports from the FDA suggest they could pose a serious health threat.

The reports, obtained by USA Today via the Freedom of Information Act, say that some kitchens where the meals are prepared use unclean equipment, employ food handlers who practice poor hygiene, and store food at the wrong temperatures.

In addition, some kitchens were littered with dead cockroaches, flies, and rodent feces - and at least one kitchen tested positive for listeria, a bacterium that can cause potentially deadly infections.

Three caterers were named in the reports: LSG Sky Chefs, Gourmet, and Flying Food Group. Collectively, these caterers prepare more than 100 million meals each year, including those served by Delta, American, United, U.S. Airways and Continental.

These conditions provide a welcome mat for the germs that cause food poisoning, said Roy Costa a former Florida state food inspector who reviewed the reports for USA Today. He called the situation "disturbing," saying that "it poses a real risk of illness and injury to tens of thousands of airline passengers on a daily basis."

A spokesperson for Flying Food Group, Ellen Pritsker, told CBSnews via email that the "findings" attributed to the company had been addressed and that it works hard to ensure that food is safe.

The two other caterers did not respond to requests for comment by press time, but they also told USA Today they work hard to ensure food is safe.

Now if they can work on flavor

Chelsea Handler has a thing for T.I. and it's not just made for tv acting. The last time Tip was on her show made for classic late night television as Chelsea flirted heavily. She promised to send the rapper a few treats while he was in prison and she made good on that promise.

I don't think Chelsea thought much about T.I.'s better half Tiny at the time though. So when Tiny visited the show a month or so ago, she brought back the porn magazine's Chelsea had sent to Tip while he was in prison. And Tiny kind of let her know her man wouldn't be needing any more "help".

This time around Chelsea and T.I. talked about his new movie 'Takers' which stars Paul Walker, Chris Brown and Idris Elba.

T.I. clothing like, Akoo is in it's second year, he says it's doing well.

Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables

Mixtape: A Wave Called Yes

Headliners: Max B and Young Riot

Key Cameos: "Living the Life" (featuring Curren$y)

Essential Info: Max B said his wave just doesn't dry up. While the New York MC awaits his appeal of a decades-long prison sentence for manslaughter and various other charges, his music is still being heard. Amalgam Digital recently released a mixtape by the spitter and the upstart Young Riot.

"That's me and my young god, Young Riot," Max said on the phone from the New Jersey State Penitentiary. "He's holding it down while I'm up in the spot. We got a few treats on there. I remember the night we did them. [The executives at Amalgam] drove me out to Boston, 2 in the morning. I went out there and drank a 60 of Hennessey and knocked out the whole tape. Knocked the tape out in one night. That's what professionals do. This is when I was going to trial. They came and got me on a Friday or Saturday, I had to be back on Sunday, Monday morning to go back to court. It was a real busy week. I was really busy on trial. For the music to come out that good while I was on trial, that was surprising to me. That just let me know, no matter how long I'm gone from the game, I'm still a natural. I still can make quality work. I'mma still be Biggavelli."

Amalgam is going to let A Wave Called Yes rock for the summer then drop Max's solo LP, Vigilante Season. B recently won a court case to be freed from his contract with Jim Jones, who discovered him.

"We recorded 40 songs in three weeks," Max said of his dealings with Amalgam last year. At the time, he was still contractually bound to Jones and did not know if the music would be allowed to be released. "Nonstop in the summertime. Vigilante was real special to me. It was like they giving me a shot. Even if it wasn't coming out, they gave me the feel of just going to do the album. I was doing it my way."

As for when Max will be free to record again, he says it's in God's hands now. The rapper's appeal could take between 18 months and three years to be resolved. If he loses that appeal, it could be an additional three years before he can appeal again. Max was sentenced to 75 years in prison in September 2009 for conspiracy, robbery, manslaughter and a myriad of other crimes. The jurors in the case felt there was ample evidence to convict him of the 2005 robbery of two men in a Fort Lee, New Jersey, hotel room. One of the men was shot and killed. Max wasn't at the scene of the crime, but the prosecutors built their case with him as the mastermind. Max still denies being involved. His stepbrother Kelvin Leerdam was also convicted in the matter, and Max's former girlfriend Gina Conway was involved as well but eventually testified against the men. Leerdam is serving time along with Max.

"I always kinda had that problem with finding the right people," Max said of the choices that led him to prison, right as he appeared to be on the verge of mainstream recognition. "People always say you gotta surround yourself with people who have your best interests in mind. I always found that hard to do, because when you're in my situation, everybody acts like they got your best interests, but they don't. We know who got your best interests — your mother, your father, your kid's mother, whatever. Your immediate family. But you can't have them on the road with you every day. You gotta be around your n---as.

"You gotta pick them carefully," he added. "I always had a problem with picking the right people I surround myself with. That's always been my downfall, ever since I was a little kid. That's something I gotta learn off experience. This is definitely an experience. The toughest sh-- I been through in my life. You already know when I beat this, it's gonna be beautiful. I just can't wait. That's the only thing keeping me going. Me saying [to myself], 'Max, when you beat this, it's gonna be a whole new lane out there for you.' Me being able to attack this sh-- right and make a living for my mother and my kids and be a good productive [citizen] in society. I'm a G. My moms raised me as a G. The only reason you don't hear me stressing out, I know I'm coming home and I know I'm coming home soon."

The surgeon once dubbed 'Dr Death' has been found guilty of killing three patients and permanently injuring another.

After about 50 hours of deliberation, the Brisbane Supreme Court jury in the manslaughter trial of Jayant Patel announced it had finally reached a verdict about 5.40pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

Patel arrived back in court flanked by his lawyers and his wife Kishoree, who has been present for the duration of his 15-week trial.

Stony-faced, he stood in the dock as the jury announced he was guilty of the manslaughter of Mervyn Morris, Gerardus Kemps and James Phillips.

The jury also found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to Ian Vowles.

The charges all relate to Patel's time as director of surgery at the Bundaberg Base Hospital between 2003 and 2005.

Justice John Byrne agreed to a request by crown prosecutor Ross Martin SC to delay sentencing Patel until Thursday morning.

Justice Byrne, however, refused to allow the former doctor to remain on bail until then.

Mrs Patel left the courtroom in tears as her husband - who became known in Queensland as 'Dr Death' after he fled to the US in 2005 - was led from the dock to the cells, and she declined to speak to waiting media outside the court.

During the trial the court was told Patel caused the deaths or injuries by performing the wrong operations on the wrong patients, in a hospital that could not support this sort of major surgery.

Prosecutor Ross Martin said there was evidence Patel was a man driven by 'toxic ego', who performed surgeries that were beyond his level of skill.

The court heard Patel caused Mr Morris's death in June 2003 because he failed to properly investigate the cause of his rectal bleeding, and unnecessarily removed part of his colon.

Mr Phillips, 46, was so unwell that he was an unsuitable candidate for an oesophagectomy performed by Patel in May 2003, and the hospital's intensive care unit was ill-equipped to manage his post-operative care.

Mr Kemps died because Patel rushed an oesophagectomy without proper planning, and then allowed him to bleed to death.

The court was told Patel then failed to diagnose Mr Kemps' internal bleeding, and delayed taking him back into theatre.

He then stitched the patient back up while he was still bleeding profusely.

The jury was told Patel caused Ian Vowles grievous bodily harm in October 2004 by unnecessarily removing a large section of his bowel, despite polyps showing no signs of cancer.

The court was told Patel came to Bundaberg knowing that he had been disciplined for 'gross negligence' in the US in 2000.

Under the US order, he was required to seek a second opinion when performing major operations like oesophagectomies.

While this order did not affect his legal ability to undertake such procedures in Australia, Patel failed to disclose this information to his colleagues, employers or patients.

Before retiring to deliberate, the jury was told they could consider whether knowledge of previous disciplinary action for gross negligence would have affected the patients' decision to give their consent, or whether it would have given Patel cause to reflect on his own abilities in offering the surgery to them.

Outside the court Mr Kemps' wife, Judy, said she was incredibly relieved to see Patel finally brought to justice.

'It's been a long five years but it's all over,' she said.

'It's just all confusing, but I'm just so happy ... I'm free, I'm free.

'It's closure alright.'

Patient advocate Beryl Crosby said it was a huge relief.

'I hope with all my heart that these people and their families can move on,' she said.

She said it didn't matter to her if Patel got off later on a technicality in the Court of Appeal.

'For a lot of people this is going to be closure.

'The verdict was guilty, it doesn't matter what happens from here.
