Brittney Griner pled not guilty in a Russian court on Thursday ... and will remain in custody for AT LEAST another two months after they extended the arrest of the WNBA star, who's accused of bringing drugs into the country.

Video was released showing the Phoenix Mercury center walking, presumably outside the Moscow-area courtroom, flanked by two female guards. The footage is the first we've seen of 31-year-old Griner since she was taken into custody weeks ago.

Russian news agency TASS says the Moscow court granted more time to investigate the alleged crimes ... and "extended the period of detention of the U.S. citizen Griner until May 19."

As we previously reported, Griner has been in custody since February after Russian customs officials claim they found hashish oil (vape cartridges) in her carry-on luggage at an airport.

After her arrest, Russian officials said they opened up a drug trafficking investigation into Griner.

Everyone from NBA and WNBA stars, actors and actresses, to Griner's wife has called on the country to release Griner ... to no avail.

"There are no words to express this pain," Griner's wife, Cherelle, said earlier this month.

"I'm hurting, we're hurting. We await the day to love on you as a family."

Several prominent politicians have spoken out about Griner's arrest -- including Hillary Clinton, who recently wrote "Free Brittney" on social media.

U.S. Congressman Colin Allred -- who also happened to attend Baylor U. -- recently told us he hopes Griner doesn't become a political pawn during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Many fear Griner -- who has played pro basketball in Russia for years -- could be used as a bargaining chip against America ... as the west has levied very stiff sanctions against the country.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (KIRO 7) — More than 100 people, including 4 Disney employees, were arrested in Florida during a 6-day undercover human trafficking investigation called “Operation March Sadness 2.”

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit led the investigation, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies & anti-human trafficking agencies in the area.

Deputies arrested 4 men for allegedly preying on children online. They're identified as:

**Timothy Finley, 39, of Mulberry: accused of chatting with an undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl, then traveling to meet her for sex

**Shannon Johnson, 41, of Orlando: accused of sending a nude photo to an undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl, then traveling to a residence to meet her for sex

**Jody Rose, 36, of Gainesville: accused of sending sexual images and graphic descriptions of his desires to an undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl

**Xavier Jackson, 27, of Kissimmee: accusing of sending sexual images to an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl

Deputies also arrested a retired judge from the Chicago area. Daniel Peters of Palos Hills, Ill., faces a charge of soliciting a prostitute.

Undercover detectives used online advertisements to identify potential suspects. Officers made contact online with the suspects & arranged for an in-person meetup. The suspects were arrested after their arrival at the chosen location.

The oldest person arrested was 67-year old Derek Collins, who showed up at the residence drinking an Ensure nutrition beverage, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The youngest person arrested was a 17-year old male. Both were arrested for soliciting for a prostitute. Another notable arrest involved James Compton, 42, of Kissimmee. The man told detectives that he’s married with 8 children & had left 1 of his children at a soccer game taking place nearby in order to meet with a prostitute. 

Anti-trafficking organizations were available to help determine those who were human trafficking victims and offer services & counseling.

Actor Jussie Smollett was released from jail Wednesday on bond while he appeals his conviction for lying to police about a racist and homophobic attack.

Details: The appeals court document states that Smollett does not have to put money down to be released, but will need to come to court as required.

The big picture: The former "Empire" star, who is Black and gay, was sentenced to 150 days in jail and 30 months' probation last week.

**Smollett told Chicago police that he was the victim of a hate crime in January 2019.

**He was convicted last December on five counts of lying to police but has maintained he was telling the truth.

New details emerged Tuesday about the sick kidnapping scheme that left a New York City man burned, gagged & on the brink of death — as the alleged honeypot charged with luring him was indicted.

Police found the 24-year-old victim — who was allegedly kidnapped Feb. 7 — wrapped in a furniture-moving blanket, with tape covering his nose & mouth, inside a van parked in Queens.

One of his knife-toting tormentors was also in the vehicle.

At the time, 2 of his kidnappers had taken his car to a ransom drop with the victim’s brother in The Bronx.

The victim told cops that the men were armed with a handgun & also has his cell phone.

The vicious fiends had demanded $100,000 from the victim’s horrified brother — who was forced to watch as his sibling was cut with a knife on a grisly FaceTime call.

Prosecutors have said the young man was “barely breathing” when he was found, following a twisted 24-hour torture session where he was stabbed & beaten.

The twisted saga began after the victim connected with a pretty brunette over Instagram — never suspecting that he was allegedly being targeted because she & her accomplices thought he was a wealthy prey.

Valerie Rosario, 22, who allegedly lured him to a Bronx apartment Feb. 7, was indicted in the sickening case and is set to be arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court next month.

Prosecutors initially charged her last week with attempted murder and kidnapping.

She was arrested March 10 after cops tracked her to the Bronx home of the aunt of 1 of her alleged co-conspirators, Michael Candelario, who has also been charged.

Prosecutors say Rosario allegedly coaxed the victim, a “complete stranger,” to an address in the Bronx after they connected on Instagram.

He went to meet the Lower East Side con woman, believing they were linking up for a romantic encounter, according to sources.

But when he arrived, 3 men barged in & pistol-whipped him. Rosario, & the accomplices then allegedly stripped the victim, “placed him in a bathtub, poured flammable substances on him & burned him with a flame” all over his body.

They also tormented him with a knife, striking him “about the legs, back and body.”

Several hours of torture later, the group of sadists moved the victim to an address Queens in his own car.

Police tracked him down to the back of van parked there & arrested another of the alleged accomplices, Javier Vargas.

Vargas, 24, was arraigned on Feb. 9 & also remanded into custody. His next court date is set for March 22.

A Florida man has been crushed to death by a bulldozer while he was using a porta-potty, authorities said.

Aaron Henderson, 43, was killed on Friday afternoon at the North Central Landfill in Polk County where he worked as a traffic controller, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

The freak accident unfolded as employees were putting away equipment and preparing to shut down the site for the day.

The bulldozer operator had been driving his rig up an embankment at the time, but his view was partially blocked by the machinery’s elevated blade.

As the driver reached level ground and turned the bulldozer, he heard a loud crumble and realized he had plowed over the porta-potty.

“He immediately exited the bulldozer and ran towards the porta-potty to see if anyone was inside of it,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“At that time, he observed Henderson unresponsive inside the porta-potty.”

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Henderson was a designated “spotter” at the landfill, which meant he was in charge of controlling the traffic of dump trucks coming in and out of the landfill.

Authorities described the ordeal as a “tragic, industrial accident.”

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — The long-awaited autopsy results in the death of Memphis rapper Young Dolph were released Tuesday.

According to the report, the 36-year-old rapper whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr. lists the cause of death as “gunshot wounds to the head, neck, and torso.” The report does not make clear the exact number of shots.

The medical examiner listed the official cause of death as homicide and said Young Dolph had suffered 22 wounds — some were listed as entrance wounds, some exit wounds and others as undetermined gunshot wounds.

On Dec. 9, police say the first suspect, Cornelius Smith was arrested in Southaven, Mississippi for an auto-theft warrant, which involved the white vehicle that was believed to be the getaway car in the murder.

Second suspect Justin Johnson, 23, also known as Straight Drop, was captured in Indiana on Jan. 11.

Both suspects plead guilty a month later. Their next hearing is set for March 24.

MPD named Devin Burns and Joshua Taylor as two persons of interest in the case on Feb. 20. Burns was taken into custody two days later. Taylor has not been arrested.

Kevin Holland is basically Batman at this point.

The UFC star just took matters into his own hands and stopped a crime dead in its tracks -- AGAIN -- this time, subduing a gunman at a sushi restaurant.

The 29-year-old welterweight was at Ra Sushi in the Highland Village of Houston around 11:30 PM on Monday ... when witnesses say someone entered the restaurant and fired a gun into the air.

But, while most of the folks in attendance ducked for cover, three customers -- including Holland -- rushed to stop the alleged shooter.

One of the heroes, Patrick Robinson, spoke with ABC 13 about the heroic effort ... saying, "We were eating and the next thing you know, a gunshot just popped off. So everything paused and then everybody started running to get down under a table."

"We got him down, apprehended him, got the gun away from him and the bag that he had."

By the time cops arrived, the 24-year-old suspect was already subdued and had his weapon taken away!

The suspect is now facing charges of possessing a stolen gun and discharge of a firearm, the outlet reports.

Remember, this isn't the first time Holland -- who just beat "Cowboy" Oliveira at UFC 272 -- put his MMA skills to use outside the Octagon. Last year, he helped stop a carjacker just days after competing at UFC Fight Night!!

BOSTON (AP) — The founder of a Boston nonprofit established to reduce violence in the city & her husband, used donations to the organization to enrich themselves, federal prosecutors said in a multicount indictment.

Monica Cannon-Grant, 41, & her husband Clark Grant, 38, of Taunton, used Violence in Boston Inc. funds to pay for personal expenses including, hotels, car rentals, auto repairs, restaurant meals, nail salons & personal travel.

They also fraudulently applied for federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits that they knew they were not eligible to receive because they had other sources of income at the time, and lied to a mortgage lender by saying Violence in Boston’s assets were their own to help pay for mortgage fees and closing costs, prosecutors said.

The couple maintained exclusive control over organization finances & did not disclose to other Violence in Boston directors, bookkeepers, or financial auditors that they had used the funds for their own purposes.

Both were charged in an 18-count indictment with wire fraud, conspiracy, and making false statements to a mortgage lending business. Cannon-Grant also faces a mail fraud count.

Cannon-Grant is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston on Tuesday. Her attorney, Robert Goldstein, said he expects her to be vindicated.
