The NAACP Image Awards are drawing criticism on the day it is going to air.
Kid Rock is set to receive the Detroit branch of the NAACP's Greater Expectations Award, but it's his use of the confederate flag that has people up in arms.
Political consultant Adolph Mongo is planning a boycott of the Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner May 1, where Kid Rock is set to get the award.
"It's a slap in the face for anyone who fought for civil rights in this country," Mongo says told the Detroit News. "It's a symbol of hatred and bigotry."
Rock has said in the past that the flag stands for rock and roll.
The award show is also being criticized for their choice of musical performers which include, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Diddy-Dirty Money.
Reverend Delman Coates, senior pastor of the Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland is vocally lashing out at the choices.
"It is unconscionable that the NAACP would sully its brand, squander its legacy, and take such a stand contrary to the aspirations and dreams of the mainstream of the African-American community," said Coates. "While artists are free to produce their own art, it is not acceptable for public corporations and established civil right organizations to sanction the kinds of lyrics promoted by some of these artists," he continued. "These are the wrong images for a civil rights organization to nominate and endorse."
The show airs tonight on Fox at 8pm eastern.

Reporter Shomari Stone of Seattle tv station Komo4 was preparing to do a report in Victor Steinbrueck Park when a scuffle suddenly broke out.
Stone sprang into action and stopped a fight where one guy was raining down punches on another.
In an ironic twist of fate, the man Stone saved is said to be a white supremacist, with his arms covered in tattoos of swastikas.
"He thanked me and I said “remember to judge the man by his character and not the color of his skin," says Stone.
These's simply no good explanation for the kind of things people will do. This chick thought it would sexy to try to lick a snake's tongue.
Her breath must have been face melting bad because that snake bit into the biggest things it coold grab. which happened to be her breast.

Watoto From The Nile's song "Letter to Lil Wayne" is deep and moving.
Written and rapped from the perspective of little girls. The song talks about the confusion felt by children when they hear stars like Weezy say things that go against the things they are taught at home and in school.

Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" album continues to amaze two months after it's release.
It now claims the record for most consecutive weeks in the top ten by a female rap album in Billboard album chart with fourteen and counting.
Of course Nicki was more than happy to tweet the good news to her followers.
Next up for the Young Money princess are dates on the road with Lil Wayne. The two play twenty four dates across the U.S. on the 'I Am Music II' tour starting March 18 in Buffalo, NY.

When Waka Flocka brought his show to King Cat Theater in Seattle last Friday (February 26), it was a high energy gangster party.
Casey Carter caught up with the 1017 Brick Squad member after the show to talk about him being left off the 2011 XXL Freshman list and whether or not he thought he was skipped.

The Charlie Sheen soap opera just kicked into high gear as his twin boys, Bob and Max were removed from his custody following an alleged threat against his estranged wife.
33-year old Brooke Mueller and her lawyers were successful in getting a restraining order against Sheen after he allegedly said to her "I will cut your head off, put it in a box and send it to your mom" TMZ is reporting.
The 45-year old Sheen also threatened to put a penknife in her eye on February 23.
Sheen's attorney's are said to be furious because neither they, or Charlie were informed of the hearing to decide to have the kids removed from his home.
Also Brooke's lawyers confessed in court that she is in "day treatment" for drug abuse and will only see the kids for around four hours a day until that is completed. Her mother will care for the children the remainder of the time.
Sheen has been all over the news lately due to his partying, drug use and wild interviews.
