HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman was stabbed to death, allegedly by her husband & the killing happened in front of their 13-year-old daughter at an apartment in northwest Houston.
According to HPD Lt. Ignacio Izaguirre, authorities responded to Woodsman Trail & Pine Moss at about 11 p.m. Wednesday & found a 32-year-old woman with knife wounds to her body.
While first responders tended to her, the woman's husband returned, but then fled, police say.
Still, officials on scene were able to get partial license plate information, gave that to officers and stopped the man about a mile away.
He was arrested.
Officials told ABC13 that they believe the couple was arguing before the stabbing, possibly about the husband's jealousy of another man and his wife.
Izaguirre said the teen daughter, who was not injured & another couple who lives inside the apartment witnessed the deadly stabbing.
The woman was found in a front hallway of the apartment.
A knife was recovered.
So far, investigators have not identified the man & woman involved.
TAMPA, Fla. (Fox13) - Hillsborough County detectives arrested a 33-year-old man, saying he picked up a child at a gas station & had sex with her.
On Tuesday, officials said the mother of the 11-year-old girl called the agency after discovering text messages from 33-year-old Jorge Moreno that were "sexual in nature." Detectives interviewed the child & learned she met Moreno on Monday at a gas station. She left with him in his vehicle & had sex with him.
Detectives said Moreno & the victim did not know each other before meeting at the gas station.
They said the 11-year-old had already agreed to meet Moreno on Tuesday at the same gas station to have sex. Instead, the detectives planned to meet Moreno instead.
Moreno was waiting for the victim at the designated time. Detectives interviewed him & he confessed to having sexual contact with the child.
He was arrested & faces several charges including sexual battery, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, traveling to meet a minor & illegal use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts.
"There are people out there who are predatory and seeking out minors for sex, but in Hillsborough County, if you're coming for our children, we're coming for you," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "I commend the parents of this juvenile victim for monitoring her child's cell phone & bringing this matter to us for investigation. This incident should serve as a reminder to all parents to keep an eye on their children's lives online & on their mobile devices.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Exclusive video obtained by Action News shows the moment a customer fought back against a would-be robbery suspect inside a Philadelphia smoke shop.
It happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday on the 5300 block of 5th Street in the city's Olney section.
Police say the male suspect, believed to be in his 20s, approached a 45-year-old man who was standing by an ATM inside the store. Within seconds, the customer is able to get a gun away from the suspect before shooting him several times.
"I heard two pops. I woke up out of my sleep and I heard somebody scream," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.
The suspect fled the store and was later found dead inside a stolen car on the 400 block of West Olney Avenue, according to investigators.
At one point during the struggle with the suspect, police say a bullet hit a man who was waiting for the victim outside of the smoke shop. He is expected to survive his injuries.
The victim was not injured in the incident.
Residents in the neighborhood said they are fed up with the gun violence.
"Real scary for a person like me, an old man," said Juan Morales of Olney.
It's unclear if any charges would be filed in the case.
Police say the person who drove the suspect to the store is still being sought at this time.

Jorge Masvidal has been arrested and charged in the wake of his alleged assault against Colby Covington in Miami Beach, Fla.
According to online records, Masvidal was arrested on charges of aggravated battery/great bodily harm as well as criminal mischief. He’s currently being held on $15,000 bond in Miami.
If convicted of the current charges, Masvidal could potentially face significant time behind bars with aggravated battery considered a second-degree felony with up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. Criminal mischief can also result in jail time and/or fines as well.
Masvidal’s arrest comes in the wake of an altercation that allegedly took place outside Papi Steak Restaurant late Monday night where Covington was having dinner with The Nelk Boys, a popular podcast group that frequents UFC events.
Police responded to a call and later stated in a report that the victim, who MMA Fighting identified as Covington, told authorities that he was leaving the restaurant when the alleged assailant ran up and punched him twice. Covington suffered a fractured tooth and an abrasion on his wrist from the assault.
Covington identified Masvidal as his alleged attacker while saying that the veteran UFC fighter shouted “you shouldn’t have been talking about my kids” during the altercation. Covington said he recognized Masvidal’s voice as well as his hair sticking out of his hoodie.
Masvidal seemed to address the altercation later that same night when he posted a video on Twitter saying “call this the show your face challenge … what’s up, I’m from Dade county. You talk that s*** you’ve got to back it up. That’s how my city rolls.”
On Wednesday, Masvidal addressed the situation while appearing in a meeting with the Nevada State Athletic Commission where he tabled an application he had pending for a promoter’s license in the state.
“I had a mutual combatant with another athlete, and you know, I can’t say too much on this, but if we could table [the application] for later, that would be amazing,” Masvidal said.
At the time, Masvidal hadn’t been charged with any crimes but that changed late Wednesday night when he was taken into custody and placed under arrest.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Pamela Smart, a former high school employee convicted of recruiting her teenage lover to kill her husband, was denied a sentence reduction hearing Wednesday, more than 30 years after a sensational trial that inspired books & a Nicole Kidman movie.
Smart was 22 & working as a high school media coordinator when she began an affair with the 15-year-old student who shot & killed her husband, Gregory Smart, in 1990. Although she denied knowledge of the plot, she was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder & other crimes & sentenced to life without parole. The student, William Flynn, and three other teens cooperated with prosecutors, served shorter sentences & have been released.
Smart’s request was rejected in a 5-0 vote by a New Hampshire state council. It’s the third time Smart has asked a council for a hearing. Now 54, she has exhausted all of her judicial appeal options.
“I am absolutely convinced that there’s no evidence or argument” to grant a commutation request, councilor Janet Stevens said during a short discussion.
One thing that was different in this petition is that Smart apologized to her husband’s family for the first time.
“I offer no excuses for my actions & behavior,” she said in a recorded statement that was sent as a DVD to the attorney general’s office in December. “I’m to blame.”
“I regret that it took me so long to apologize to the Smart family, my own family & everyone else. But I think that I wasn’t at a place where I was willing to own that or face that,” she said. “I was young & selfish & I wasn’t thinking about the consequences of what I was doing.”
In the state’s response, Jeffery Strelzin, associate attorney general, wrote that Smart has told a false narrative for over 30 years & just because she’s decided to change that now “does not mean that she has truly changed & fully acknowledged all the crimes she committed as an accomplice & conspirator in her husband’s murder & the perpetrator of witness tampering.”
“Decades of lies cannot be undone in an instant by newfound claims of remorse & a vague acceptance of responsibility,” Strelzin, who opposed a sentence reduction, added.
If you thought Mike Tyson was a badass before, wait until you see how he handled himself when a guy pulled a gun within 15 feet of him -- let's just say you can call him Cool Hand Luke.
TMZ obtained this insane video of what we're told was a small comedy show Tuesday night on a rooftop bar in Hollywood & MT was in attendance with a few friends.
At first you see Mike seated calmly at his front row table taking in the show -- but the whole thing was interrupted by a random guy who approached Mike & co. & attempted to chat him up, disrupting a comedian's set & everyone's good time.
While you can't hear exactly what was being said in the footage, eyewitnesses tell us the man was actually challenging Mike to a fight -- suggesting he wanted to elevate his "status."
Mike, of course, kept it chill & didn't engage with the man ... mostly just letting him talk. Eventually, though, another man intervenes & tells the dude to scram. We're told this was actually the host/MC of the night.
That pissed off the guy challenging Mike ... who threatened to shoot the host & then pulled out a gun from his waistband & cocked it in front of everyone. Naturally, everyone gasped & started ducking under tables.
Luckily, he never fired, put the gun away & almost immediately regretted it. He once again approached Mike & asked him not to call the cops. Once again, Mike just sat there in relative silence, heard the guy out.
Mike actually hugged the man, at which point he finally left without further incident. We're told people started to trickle out after that with some trepidation -- not knowing if the dude was lurking somewhere down below in the streets. After a bit of time, Mike departed too.
We checked with the authorities ... LAPD says they were never called.

The U.S. government has finally been given access to Brittney Griner in Russia ... and in positive news, she's said to be "in good condition."
U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price made the announcement on CNN on Wednesday ... explaining Russia is now allowing the U.S. to provide consular access to Griner.
Price said an official from the U.S. embassy was able to see her "within the past couple hours" -- saying they checked in on her condition and found she's doing okay while detained.
"There's only so much I can say," Price said, "but what I can say is that our official found Brittney Griner to be in good condition. And we will continue to do everything we can to see to it that she is treated fairly throughout this ordeal."
Price vowed that the U.S. government will "work very closely with her legal team, with her broader network, to see to it that she is treated fairly."
"That is a message that we will continue to convey in no uncertain terms to the Russian federation," he added.
As we previously reported, Griner has been detained in Russia since mid-February, after she allegedly tried to bring hash oil through an airport security.
She's expected to remain in detainment until at least mid-May after a court denied her request earlier this month to be released on house arrest.

One of Young Dolph's suspected killers apparently has some enemies behind bars ... because he was recently attacked by another inmate.
Justin Johnson, who is in custody on a slew of charges including first-degree murder, was punched by a fellow inmate at Tennessee's Shelby County Jail while in the middle of a phone call Friday.
Johnson's lawyer, Juni Ganguli, says JJ was on the phone in the jail's visitation area when an inmate walked up & socked him. We're told there is no word on a motive & Johnson was not severely injured.
A rep for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office tells TMZ ... there was an incident Friday involving Johnson & another inmate & it's under investigation. We're told there were no reported injuries.
Remember ... Johnson was named as a suspect in Young Dolph's murder earlier this year & in January he was captured & arrested by U.S. Marshalls. He claims he is innocent.
Johnson's a Memphis-area rapper who uses the stage name Straight Drop & he appears to have shot a music video back in the day at the same Tennessee home where police found what they believe is the getaway car used in Dolph's murder.
An employee of a Burger King in northwest Miami-Dade has been arrested after police said she shot at a customer.
Miami-Dade Police arrested Shateasha Monique Hicks, 30, after they said Hicks & a customer got into some sort of dispute & Hicks pulled out a gun & shot at the customer.
According to an arrest report, a witness told police he was inside the restaurant when he witnessed a verbal dispute between a Burger King worker, Hicks, & a person in a car at the drive-thru window.
The witness said the person in the car drove off & parked in the parking lot & the employee left the restaurant, went to her car & grabbed a gun, then fired 5 shots towards the person's car as they drove away.
The woman then got in her car & fled the scene.
Her car was later found abandoned but police tracked Hicks down using car's registered owner's address.
A gun was found on floorboard of the car & five bullet casings were found in the Burger King parking lot.
A relative of Hicks told NBC 6 that the customer she shot at squirted or threw mayonnaise in her face before the gunfire.
Hicks faces a charge for discharging a firearm in public & was being held on a $1,000 bond Friday, Miami-Dade jail records showed.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A jury on Monday convicted a Tennessee man in the slaying of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, whose bullet-riddled body was found in a field nearly 12 years ago in his hometown of Memphis.
The 12-person jury deliberated for about 2 hours before it found Billy Ray Turner guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder & conspiracy in the death of Wright, a 6-foot, 11-inch center who played 13 seasons in the NBA before he retired after the 2008-2009 season. Judge Lee Coffee sentenced Turner, 51, to life in prison for the murder conviction. He will be sentenced for the other charges at a later date.
The slaying is one of the most highly publicized murder cases in Memphis history. Wright’s decomposing body was found riddled with bullet wounds in a swampy field in east Memphis on July 28, 2010. The 34-year-old father of 6 had been missing for days before his body was discovered.
Turner had already pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon as a convicted felon after he was found with 6 guns when he was arrested in Wright’s killing in 2017. Turner is serving a 16-year prison sentence on the separate gun charge.
Prosecutors allege Wright’s ex-wife, Sherra Wright, masterminded a plan to kill her ex-husband & recruited Turner & her cousin, Jimmie Martin, to help her.
Turner & Sherra Wright were indicted in December 2017, more than 7 years after the killing. Sherra Wright entered a surprise guilty plea to facilitation of murder in July 2019 & was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Turner is a landscaper who knew Sherra Wright from church &, according to prosecutors, had a secret romantic relationship with her.
At the time of Wright’s slaying, Martin was facing charges of killing his girlfriend & he said his cousin helped pay part of his legal fees. Martin was convicted & is currently serving prison time, in that case. He has received immunity from prosecution in the Wright case.
Martin testified that he & Turner met with Sherra Wright to plan the killing & went to Lorenzen Wright’s condominium in Atlanta to shoot him, with an understanding that he would get paid.
If you thought the bad blood between Colby "Chaos" Covington and Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal ended after they battled in the main event at UFC 272 ... think again. Colby scored a unanimous decision victory in that match up, but Masvidal took it to the streets on Monday, March 21.
The two were once best friends and American Top Team teammates, but those days are gone.
According the various reports, Masvidal, who got his start scrapping in Kimbo Slice's Backyard Brawls, confronted Covington outside off Papi Steak in Miami Beach. The situation quickly turned physical.
“I’m hearing that a someone not from miami who says he’s the king of it is missing a tooth,” tweeted Masvidal's manager, Malki. “Can someone confirm this? I need the video asap.”
Jorge later posted a video to social media, seemingly confirming that he got the better of Covington.
"Calling this the show your face challenge," he says in the clip. "What's up? I'm from Dade County. You talk that s**t you gotta back it up. That's how my city rolls, man."
