SAN DIEGO (AP) — A California woman who punched a Southwest Airlines flight attendant in the face during a flight, breaking her teeth, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison.

Vyvianna Quinonez was also ordered Tuesday by the federal judge in San Diego to pay nearly $26,000 in restitution and a $7,500 fine for the assault on a May 23, 2021, Southwest flight between Sacramento and San Diego.

The 29-year-old Sacramento woman is prohibited from flying for three years while she is on supervised release and must participate in anger management classes or counseling.

Quinonez last year pleaded guilty to one count of interference with flight crew members and attendants, admitting she punched the flight attendant in the face and head with a closed fist and grabbed her hair. Neither she nor her attorney could be reached for comment Tuesday.

During the flight’s final descent, the attendant had asked Quinonez to buckle her seat belt, stow her tray table, and put on her facemask properly.

Instead, Quinonez began recording the attendant on her cellphone, pushed her, then stood up and punched the woman in the face and grabbed her hair before other passengers intervened, authorities said.

The assault was recorded on another passenger’s cellphone.

The plea agreement said that the flight attendant suffered three chipped teeth, two of which needed crowns, along with bruises and a cut under her left eye that needed stitches.

“Attacks on flight crew members, who perform vital jobs to ensure passenger safety, will not be tolerated,” U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said in a statement after the sentencing.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Stacey Moy said the sentence should “send a very strong message to air travelers — the FBI will vigorously pursue anyone who assaults or interferes with flight crews.”

One of the young victims of the Texas school massacre bled to death while waiting for nearly an hour for police to come to the rescue — possibly dying because of the delay, a first-responder allegedly told her mom.

Texas State Sen. Roland Gutierrez said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the girl’s heartbroken mother recalled to him how the worker told her the child might have lived if cops hadn’t been slow to move in on the killer.

“Her child had been shot by one bullet through the back, through the kidney area,” Gutierrez told the outlet. “The first responder that they eventually talked to said that their child likely bled out.

“In that span of 30 or 40 minutes extra, that little girl might have lived,” the Democratic lawmaker said. “So absolutely these mistakes may have led to the passing away of these children as well.”

Police in Uvalde, Texas, have increasingly come under criticism for their handling of Tuesday’s massacre, which left 19 fourth-graders & 2 teachers dead & 17 others wounded.

Police did not breach Robb Elementary School for more than 90 minutes after arriving at the campus, where the deranged 18-year-old gunman, Salvador Ramos, fatally shot his innocent victims with an AR-15 assault rifle.

Ramos was eventually shot dead when police did finally enter the adjoining classrooms where he had launched his slaughter.

Several students even pleaded with police to come to their aid — as officers remain deployed outside, out of harm’s way — before they were killed.

Among those facing scrutiny for the delay is Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, who allegedly made the call to hold cops back when the shooting started.

On Sunday, police were guarding the chief’s house & keeping reporters away.

“Pete Arredondo is a coward,” snapped neighbor Lydia Torres. “He didn’t do his job. He failed the children.”

Questions have also arisen as to whether Arredondo even had a police radio with him when he made the fateful decision outside the school.

UVALDE, Texas (AP) — The Justice Department said Sunday it will review the law enforcement response to the Texas school shooting, an unusual federal look back prompted by questions about the shifting and at times contradictory information from authorities that have enraged a community in shock and sorrow.

Department spokesman Anthony Coley said the review would be conducted in a fair, impartial and independent manner and the findings would be made public. The announcement came as President Joe Biden was visiting Uvalde, where he and first lady Jill Biden paid their respects at a memorial to the 19 students and two teachers killed at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday.

The goal of the review, which the mayor requested, is “to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and response that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events,” Coley said in a statement.

Handling the review is the department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. It was not immediately clear how the review would be conducted, whether law enforcement officials could be compelled to cooperate in the review and when it might be completed.

Such a review is somewhat rare and most after-action reports that come after a mass shooting are generally compiled by local law enforcement agencies or outside groups. The Justice Department conducted similar reviews after 14 people were killed in a terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California, in 2015, and after the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ community in U.S. history that left 49 people dead and 53 people wounded.

The frustration, anger and questions about the response from police grew deeper on Friday after authorities revealed that despite repeated 911 calls from students and teachers, the school district’s police chief had told more than a dozen officers to wait in a school hallway. Officials said he believed the suspect was barricaded inside adjoining classrooms and that there was no longer an active attack.

The revelation caused more grief and raised new questions about whether more lives were lost because officers did not act faster to stop the gunman, who was ultimately killed by Border Patrol tactical officers.

Biden has not spoken publicly about the police response to the shooting.

CHARLESTON, W.Va (11Alive) — A woman in West Virginia fatally shot a man who began firing an AR-15-style rifle into a crowd of people that had gathered for a party.

Dennis Butler, 37, was killed Wednesday night after he pulled out the rifle and began shooting at dozens of people attending the birthday-graduation party outside an apartment complex in the city of Charleston.

The woman, who was attending the party, drew a pistol & fired, killing Butler. No one at the party was injured.

“Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat & saved several lives last night,” Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett told news outlets Thursday.

Butler was at the apartment complex earlier in the evening in a vehicle and had been warned to slow down because children were playing, police said. They said he left, but returned later, parked in front of the complex & began firing.

After fatally shooting Butler, the woman waited along with several witnesses for police to arrive, & all have cooperated with the investigation.

Hazelett said no charges would be filed against the woman.

In this clip, Tony Yayo echoed Boosie’s oft-referred to phrase of rappers dying in their own hoods as a result of people being “hypnotized with hatred.” Tony spoke about how he recognized that early on but also said there are a different set of issues one has to face when you move out of the hood. He was speaking specifically about racial tensions that exist in suburban neighborhoods and the issues he still faces where he lives. Lastly, he shares some advice that 50 Cent once gave him about how to avoid a similar fate.

MIAMI (Local10) – A woman appeared in court Friday on second-degree murder charges after police accused her of running over & killing a man whom she carjacked at a Miami tow lot.

India Latimore, 24, also faces charges of robbery & obstruction by a disguised person. Police said the entire crime was caught on surveillance video.

Miami police & fire rescue were called to Nu-Way Towing at 2343 NW 7th Ave. in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood just before 9 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a hit-and-run with a pedestrian.

Police found a man on the scene with extensive blunt force trauma to the skull & the extremities. First responders took the victim to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Court documents said police viewed surveillance video that showed Latimore stealing the victim’s blue Toyota Camry as he stood nearby with the car’s engine running.

Police said the victim immediately ran after the car & attempted to open the driver’s side door as Latimore drove off. In the process, Latimore ran over the victim.

A Miami-Dade police detective saw the Camry traveling the next morning & conducted a traffic stop, detained Latimore & had the vehicle sent for crime scene processing.

Police said they identified Latimore from the surveillance video & that she initially provided them with a false identity.

Investigators determined that Latimore unsuccessfully tried to sell the victim’s car at a north Miami-Dade dealership, presenting herself as the registered owner.

Police have not identified the victim. Latimore is being held in custody without bond.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFTV) — A teenager accused of stabbing another teen died after he had a “medical episode” while he was being taken into custody, the Daytona Beach Police Department said.

Police said Aaron Moten, 16, was wanted for stabbing a 17-year-old girl on Tuesday night.

Officers said Moten died at a hospital in Orlando hours after they found him in the backyard of a home on Continental Drive.

Police said it all started when they got a stabbing call on Imperial Drive at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday.

First responders found the 17-year-old bleeding from several stab wounds on her body.

The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she is in stable condition.

Investigators said a K9 team tracking from the crime scene found Moten lying face down on the ground at the home on Continental Drive.

Moten was taken into custody at that point without any use of force, police said.

Paramedics were called in to evaluate him. Moten then became unresponsive soon after and officers carried him to the paramedics.

Police said paramedics were able to revive Moten at the scene but he died hours later at the hospital.

The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Moten’s body to determine his cause of death.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is also investigating.

Investigators said they believe Moten and the 17-year-old knew each other but they aren’t sure why he attacked her.

Police said crime scene technicians found a blood-covered knife inside the Imperial Drive home.

Officers said Moten was listed as a missing juvenile before the incident.

He also had an active arrest warrant on charges of battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deprivation.

CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Carbondale man is facing multiple charges after police say he held a woman captive, and she escaped with the help of bank employees.

Carbondale police were called to PNC Bank on South Main Street on Wednesday after receiving numerous hold up alarms. Once police arrived, they say that a bank employee greeted them at the door and explained that a woman had asked for a “HELP” loan.

Police say the victim, who asked for the “loan” was accompanied by 36-year-old Wilson Medina-Garcia who was taken into custody. Police say they interviewed the victim who told them she had been held hostage and abused since 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Authorities say Medina-Garcia took the victim to the bank and demanded that she take out a $5,000 loan. It was during this that the victim asked the tellers for a “HELP” loan and was able to alert police, according to court paperwork.

When police came in, they say the victim began yelling “arrest me, arrest me,” because she didn’t want Medina-Garcia to know she had found a way to alert police.

Police say they went to the house in Carbondale where Medina-Garcia was allegedly keeping the victim and found a room with a lock on the outside of the door, broken glass and a broken cellphone.

Medina-Garcia is charged with two counts of kidnapping, terroristic threats, assault, and unlawful restraint. He is currently being held at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The 30-year old Dallas rapper, born Markies Conway, was originally picked in November 2021 on charges of child endangerment, unlawful carrying of a weapon and an outstanding warrant for sexual assault.

He was held at the Collin County Detention Center for the sexual assault charge, before being released on $50,000 bond.

The husband of a teacher slain in Tuesday's shooting in Ulvade, Texas, suffered a fatal heart attack Thursday.

Joe Garcia was the husband of Irma Garcia, one of the two teachers murdered in Salvador Ramos' attack on Robb Elementary School Tuesday, according to FOX San Antonio reporter Ernie Zuniga. Joe and Irma leave behind four children.

Several Twitter and GoFundMe accounts also stated that Garcia had died due to "grief" or a medical emergency Thursday.

Garcia's death comes two days after Ramos' assault on the elementary school.

Authorities say Ramos posted three times to Facebook in the 30 minutes leading up to his attack.

"I'm going to shoot my grandmother," Ramos' first post said.

"I shot my grandmother," he posted a few minutes later.

"I'm going to shoot an elementary school," his third post said.

Ramos' grandmother remains in critical condition after being shot in the face.

Ray Liotta, the actor best known for playing mobster Henry Hill in “Goodfellas” and baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson in “Field of Dreams,” has died. He was 67.

An official at the Dominican Republic’s National Forensic Science Institute who was not authorized to speak to the media confirmed the death of Ray Liotta and said his body was taken to the Cristo Redentor morgue. The Hollywood Reporter and NBC News cited representatives for Liotta who said he died in his sleep Wednesday night. He was in the Dominican Republic to film a new movie.

Lorraine Bracco, who played Karen Hill in “Goodfellas” tweeted Thursday that she was, “Utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray. I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same…Ray Liotta.”

Alessandro Nivola, who recently appeared with Liotta in “The Sopranos” prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark” wrote, “I feel so lucky to have squared off against this legend in one of his final roles. The scenes we did together were among the all time highlights of my acting career. He was dangerous, unpredictable, hilarious, and generous with his praise for other actors. Too soon.”

The Newark, New Jersey, native was born in 1954 and adopted at age six months out of an orphanage by a township clerk and an auto parts owner. Though he mostly grew up playing sports, including baseball, during his senior year of high school, the drama teacher at the school asked him if he wanted to be in a play, which he agreed to on a lark. And it stuck: He’d go on to study acting at the University of Miami. After graduation, he got his first big break on the soap opera “Another World.”

Liotta’s first big film role was in Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild” as Melanie Griffith’s character’s hotheaded ex-convict husband Ray. The turn earned him a Golden Globe nomination. A few years later, he would get the memorable role of the ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson in “Field of Dreams.”

His most iconic role, as real life mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” came shortly after. He, and Scorsese, had to fight for it though, with multiple auditions and pleas to the studio to cast the still relative unknown.

“The thing about that movie, you know, Henry Hill isn’t that edgy of a character,” Liotta said in an interview in 2012. “It’s really the other guys who are doing all the actual killings. The one physical thing he does do, when he goes after the guy who went after Karen — you know, most audiences, they actually like him for that.”

In the same interview, he marveled at how “Goodfellas” had a “life of its own” and has only grown over time.

“People watch it over and over, and still respond to it, and different ages come up, even today, teenagers come up to me and they really emotionally connect to it,” he said.

UVALDE, Texas (AP) — Law enforcement authorities faced questions and criticism Thursday over how much time elapsed before they stormed an Uvalde elementary school classroom and put a stop to the rampage by a gunman who killed 19 children and two teachers.

Investigators were also unable to say with any certainty whether an armed school district security officer outside Robb Elementary exchanged fire with the attacker, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, when Ramos first arrived on Tuesday.

During the siege, which ended when a Border Patrol team burst in and shot Ramos to death, frustrated onlookers urged police officers to charge into the school, according to witnesses.

“Go in there! Go in there!” women shouted at the officers soon after the attack began, said Juan Carranza, 24, who watched the scene from outside his house, across the street from the school.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said Wednesday that 40 minutes to an hour elapsed from when Ramos opened fire on the school security officer to when the tactical team shot him.

“The bottom line is law enforcement was there,” McCraw said. “They did engage immediately. They did contain (Ramos) in the classroom.”

But a department spokesman said later that authorities could not give a solid estimate of how long the gunman was in the school.

A law enforcement official said the Border Patrol agents had trouble breaching the classroom door and had to get a staff member to open the room with a key. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk publicly about the investigation.

Javier Cazares, whose fourth grade daughter, Jacklyn Cazares, was killed in the attack, said he raced to the school when he heard about the shooting, arriving while police were still gathered outside.

Upset that police were not moving in, he raised the idea of charging into the school with several other bystanders.

“Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to,” he said. “More could have been done.”

“They were unprepared,” he added.
