HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WESH) — Tampa police arrested a man accused of shooting at a homeless family while they slept in their car on Wednesday, sending a pregnant mother to the hospital.

Detectives identified Christopher Stamat Jr., 21, as the owner of a black BMW reportedly caught on camera ‘canvassing’ the area where the shooting occurred.

Police obtained a search warrant for Stamat’s apartment & car, which they said turned up an empty gun box for a 9 mm handgun, as well as bullet casings allegedly matching the ones found at the crime scene.

Police said the family of 5, consisting of 3 young children, a father, & a mother who was 9 weeks pregnant, were sleeping in a car when a vehicle approached around 4:30 a.m., opened fire & drove away.

Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor said the father yelled for his family to take cover as several bullets struck their sedan.

“Once the vehicle flees, he realizes his wife is shot,” Chief O’Connor said on Wednesday. “She got shot in the head. By the grace of God, the children did not get hit.”

Authorities said the bullet that struck the mother grazed her in the head. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Tampa police said Stamat did not provide a motive for the shooting, but said that he felt that people were following & stalking him using multiple vehicles, bikes & on foot. There was reportedly no indication that Stamat & the victims knew each other.

Stamat faces 6 felony charges, including 4 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, 1 count of second degree attempted murder & 1 count of shooting into a vehicle.

A Minnesota supporter of former President Donald Trump who officials say staged a fire that he blamed on left-wing radicals pleaded guilty Tuesday to wire fraud.

Denis Molla, 30, had claimed that his camper was targeted because of his Trump flag.

He filed fraudulent insurance claims worth hundreds of thousands of dollars after the 2020 incident at his Minneapolis-area residence, prosecutors said.

Molla also created a GoFundMe fundraiser after the fire.

Molla took more than $78,000 from an insurance company & donors who used GoFundMe. He submitted insurance claims worth more than $300,000.

His attorney told NBC affiliate KARE of Minneapolis that Molla has paid back the insurance money & plans to return the GoFundMe cash.

Molla, of Brooklyn Center, told police that on Sept. 23, 2020, his camper was set on fire because of the Trump flag & he claimed that his garage door was spray-painted with an antifa symbol & graffiti saying “Biden 2020” & “BLM.”

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — 3 Philadelphia police officers were shot & wounded at a home & a suspect was killed early Wednesday when a SWAT team tried to arrest a man wanted on a homicide charge.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m., soon after officers tried to serve a warrant in North Philadelphia, said First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford. The 19-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, fired at officers through a window as they were attempting to knock on the front door.

Officers entered the house, where the man & officers exchanged gunfire, he said. The man tried to exit the back of the home while firing at officers, who returned fire.

The man was wanted for a homicide that occurred in August. He was also a suspect in several armed robberies.

The 19-year-old was taken to the hospital & pronounced dead, Stanford said. Police did not release details of his injuries or say how many times he had been shot.

One officer was shot in the hip, while another had a leg wound. A third officer was hit in the chest by a bullet that ricocheted off of his Kevlar vest. All 3 were taken to a hospital & were listed as stable.

“The fact that ... there are this many incidents with SWAT officers being fired upon, is not normal. We have come to believe this is a normal course of events. It is not,” Stanford said.

It was unclear how many people were in the home at the time of the shooting. But at least 1 other person was taken from the scene in handcuffs. Stanford said police don’t believe anyone else was involved in the shooting, but the investigation continues.

Amy Kupps of Charlotte, North Carolina, has had a very unconventional career path. She started off as a high school history teacher, then began moonlighting as an erotic OnlyFans model & now she wants to auction off her body for surrogacy to, in her words, "mass produce pretty babies."

Kupps claimed that she regularly receives requests from men — married & single alike — to carry their child & so, armed with confidence, she has determined to put her body up for "auction & offer it to the highest bidder."

Kupps has put some thought into this business model. She believes that she could conceive & carry up to 25 children.

"I want to carry lots of babies, but no more than 25 in total. That would be my limit," she said, "but it would get the ball rolling.

The self-described "devout Catholic" & "home-wrecker," who claims to have sexual relationships exclusively with married men, is not particular about the prospective fathers who might bid for her surrogacy services.

"It doesn’t matter if the man is ugly. The baby will be beautiful if I’m its mother," she said.

Lucy Letby has been accused of murdering 5 baby boys & 2 girls & attempting to murder 10 other babies at Countess of Chester hospital.

Nick Johnson KC, prosecuting, said she was a "constant malevolent presence" in the hospital's neonatal unit.

Ms Letby, 32, denies 22 charges at Manchester Crown Court.

Jurors heard Ms Letby is alleged to have tried to kill 1 child 3 times, while another died as a result of being injected with air.

"Prior to January 2015, the statistics for the mortality of babies in the neo-natal unit at the Countess of Chester were comparable to other like units," he said.

"However, over the next 18 months or so, there was a significant rise in the number of babies who were dying & in the number of serious catastrophic collapses."

Medics also noted that babies who had collapsed "did not respond to appropriate & timely resuscitation" & that others "collapsed dramatically, but then, equally dramatically, recovered".

"Having searched for a cause, which they were unable to find, the consultants noticed that the inexplicable collapses & deaths did have one common denominator," he said.

"The presence of one of the neonatal nurses & that nurse was Lucy Letby."

"That review suggests in the period between mid-2015 & the middle of 2016, somebody in the neonatal unit poisoned 2 children with insulin," he said.

"The prosecution say the only reasonable conclusion to be drawn from the evidence you will hear is that somebody poisoned these babies deliberately with insulin."

ATLANTA (AP) — Comedians Eric André & Clayton English are challenging a police program at the Atlanta airport they say violates the constitutional rights of airline passengers through racial profiling & coercive searches.

The 2 men filed a lawsuit in Atlanta alleging that they were racially profiled & illegally stopped by at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

They say officers singled them out during separate stops roughly 6 months apart because they are Black & grilled them about drugs as other passengers watched.

Officers blocked them as they entered the jet bridge & asked if they were carrying illegal drugs. Both were asked to hand over their boarding passes & identification. An officer said he wanted to search English’s bag & he agreed, not believing he had a choice.

The police department calls the stops “consensual encounters” & says they are “random,” but in reality the stops “rely on coercion & targets are selected disproportionately based on their race,” the lawyers argue.

From Aug. 30, 2020, to April 30, 2021, there were 402 jet bridge stops & the passenger’s race was listed for 378 of those stops. Of those 378 passengers, 56% were Black & people of color accounted for 68%.

Those 402 stops resulted in 3 reported drug seizures: about 10 grams of drugs, 26 grams of “suspected THC gummies” & 6 prescription pills without a prescription.

Those stops yielded more than $1 million in cash from 25 passengers. 8 challenged the seizures & Clayton County returned much of the money.

Carrying large quantities of cash doesn’t mean someone is involved in illegal drug activity, the lawyers argue, noting that people of color are less likely to have bank accounts & are more likely to carry large sums when they travel.

The 2 seek a jury trial & ask that the jet bridge interdiction program be declared unconstitutional. They also seek compensatory & punitive damages, as well as legal costs.

Ex-NBA star Ben Gordon is in trouble with the law again -- the former Sixth Man of the Year was arrested at an airport on Monday after allegedly hitting his 10-year-old son.

TMZ Sports has confirmed ... 39-year-old Gordon was placed in handcuffs around 9 PM while waiting for a flight from LaGuardia in New York to Chicago. Two officers were injured during the arrest, according to the New York Post, although further details surrounding the incident have not been released.

The 2004 third-overall pick in the NBA Draft was transported to the Port Authority police department for processing ... and an aunt took the son to a local hospital to get checked out.

Gordon won an NCAA Championship with Jim Calhoun at UCONN in 2004 ... and went on to average 15 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in his 11-year career.

He has had several legal issues off the court -- he was arrested in June 2017 for allegedly freaking out in an apartment building and pulling the fire alarms.

Five months later, he was arrested for allegedly roughing up a man in an apartment.

Gordon spoke out about his battles with depression in 2020 ... saying, "I was obsessed with killing myself," but sought help to better his mental health.

INMAN, S.C. (AP) — Five people died Sunday night in a shooting at a home in northern South Carolina, authorities said,

Spartanburg County deputies and emergency workers found them suffering from gunshot wounds at a house in Inman, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said in a statement.

Four people died at the scene and a fifth died in surgery at the hospital, authorities said.

All five people killed appeared to be adults, weren’t related to each other and were found in different parts of the home, the coroner said.

Spartanburg County deputies said they won’t release any additional information on the shooting until the coroner has identified the people killed and notified their families.

Clevenger said his office is performing autopsies and trying to identify the victims on Monday.

The home where the bodies were found is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of Spartanburg.

In 2016, Christine Jacobsen decided to take an at-home DNA test because she was curious about her heritage.

"I expected the results to show that nearly all of me was Danish," Jacobsen, who was 64 at the time of her Ancestry.com test. But to her shock, her pie chart estimated that a quarter of her DNA came from West Africa. The Ancestry matches she received were far too distant to help find any close relatives.

So 2 years later, she did a similar test using 23andMe, which matched her with a Black woman the company identified as a likely first cousin. The women compared their shared DNA & set up a family tree, quickly concluding that her biological father was brothers with the woman's father.

"It was the '50s and '60s & my parents were liberal progressives," she said. They would often put her to bed without a babysitter & then head out to listen to jazz in Harlem. Sometimes they'd tell her they were having "friends sleep over,." 

In her mid-teens, Jacobsen realized that the sleepovers were swingers parties — events at which married or partnered people have casual sex with others.

Traditionally, a swinging couple "is supposed to be in the swinging event together & it's supposed to cement or unify their relationship."

But Jacobsen said that when she was a teen, her mother broke the rules of swinging by having a relationship with another participant. Her mom's lover & confidant would "hang out" at their home.

One night in 1968, she had a fierce argument with the man, whom she recalls exclaiming: "What do you know? You don't even know that your father's Black!"

Jacobsen said her mother started screaming. "Oh my God, you promised you'd never tell."

CHICAGO (Fox32 Chicago) - A Maywood man is facing charges after he was shot by police Wednesday when he entered a Lawndale district station & began pointing a BB gun at officers.

Terrick Bland, 43, was charged with 5 felony counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer & 1 count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At about 12:52 p.m., Bland entered the 10th District station located at 3315 W. Ogden Ave.,

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said Bland was mumbling & ranting in the lobby of the facility.

"Officers see that the offender has a plastic bag wrapped in his hand and one of the officers immediately sees what appears to be a barrel of a gun protruding from the wrapped plastic bag that the offender is holding in his hand," Brown said.

Police said Bland began shouting anti-police sentiments & then brandished a gun, pointing it at officers & civilian employees who were working the front desk.

Shots were then fired at Bland by 3 officers.

Bland was struck in the arm & transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he was listed in stable condition.

No officers or civilian employees were wounded.

COPA said a body camera captured the initial interaction and the shooting. Video of the shooting will be posted within 60 days of the incident.

Bland is scheduled to appear in bond court Friday.
