NEW YORK (AP) — The rapper Fetty Wap was charged on Friday with participating in a conspiracy to smuggle large amounts of heroin, fentanyl and other drugs into the New York City region.
The rapper, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, was arrested Thursday at Citi Field, where the three-day Rolling Loud hip-hop music festival is taking place. An indictment unsealed on Friday named Maxwell and five other defendants, including a New Jersey corrections officer.
“The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become,” Michael J. Driscoll, a top official with the FBI’s New York office, said in a statement.
The indictment charges Maxwell and his co-defendants with conspiracy to possess and distribute more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine between June 2019 and June 2020. The scheme involved using the U.S. Postal Service and cars with hidden compartments to move the narcotics from the West Coast to Long Island, where they were stored for distribution to dealers in Long Island and New Jersey, authorities said.
A phone message seeking comment was left with an attorney who has represented Maxwell in the past. He was to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
Maxwell, 30, rose to prominence after his debut single “Trap Queen” reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 2015.

GREENBELT, Md. (Fox 5) - Two members of the neo-Nazi organization The Base who were living in Delaware when they discussed bringing firearms to a pro-gun rally in Richmond were sentenced to 9 years in prison on Thursday.
FBI agents arrested former Canadian Armed Forces reservist Patrik Jordan Mathews, U.S. Army veteran Brian Mark Lemley Jr. of Elkton, Md. & a third member of a group called The Base four days before a pro-gun rally in Virginia in January 2020.
The Base is part of a larger far-right movement the Southern Poverty Law Center described as "accelerationist" – an ideology that works to shift the country toward a second civil war. The Base envisions such a civil war as a race war.
The judge who sentenced Mathews and Lemley to prison concluded that they intended to engage in terrorist activity. U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang’s decision to apply a "terrorism enhancement" to their sentences significantly increased their recommended prison terms under federal guidelines.
Chuang said recorded conversations between Mathews and Lemley captured the "virulence" & "passion" in their willingness to kill people & bring down the U.S. government.
Lemley pleaded guilty to charges in both Maryland and Delaware, which included conspiring to transport and house "certain aliens," as well as weapons charges and obstruction of justice.
Mathews, a Canadian national who had been living in Delaware, also pleaded guilty to Maryland and Delaware charges that included alien-related and weapon charges. He also pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in Delaware.
"He was intent on violence. He was intent on murder," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Windom.
The third co-defendant, William Garfield Bilbrough IV, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty in December to helping Mathews illegally enter the U.S. from Canada in 2019.
“When I found out Derrick [Rose] tore his ACL, I remember the smells, who I was with, everything. I had the same feeling of when I saw the plane hit the tower [on Sept. 11th]. People will be like, ‘He’s crazy for saying that.’ No. I’m telling you how I felt.”
That's former NBA star Joakim Noah explaining he was so devastated when a young D-Rose suffered the serious injury, it harkened him back to the day thousands of Americans died in one of the darkest days in America's history.
36-year-old Noah -- who last played with the Clippers in 2020 -- dropped the shocking quote about his close friend during a long form conversation with ESPN.
Of course, the injury happened during the 2011-2012 NBA playoffs. The Bulls were the #1 seed in the East & were playing the Sixers in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Chicago won game 1, but the game was marred by the ACL tear to Rose.
The Bulls ended up losing the series & although Rose -- now one of the NY Knicks' best players -- has come back since as a highly capable player, but never returned to pre-injury form.
"We really believed we were gonna win that championship," Noah says.
As far as comparing a sports injury to the horrific death of almost 3,000 innocent people ... it's likely a comparison that won't sit right with some people.
Houston Astros closer Ryan Pressly is now warming up in the ... arm barn???
If PETA had its way, those words would be muttered at some point during this month's World Series ... 'cause the org. is urging the MLB to stop using the term "bullpen" to describe the place where pitchers warm up.
PETA explained its stance in a news release Thursday ... saying "bullpen" is insensitive to cows. The org. said baseball should instead use "arm barn" to avoid the issue.
"Words matter, and baseball 'bullpens' devalue talented players and mock the misery of sensitive animals," PETA exec Tracy Reiman said.
The org. added that it's all a problem because bullpens are places where cows go before they're slaughtered on farms ... and where the animals go before they're treated poorly at rodeos.
"Strike out the word 'bullpen,' which references the holding area where terrified bulls are kept before slaughter," PETA said, "in favor of a more modern, animal-friendly term."
Seems unlikely baseball makes it happen -- the term has been around the game for more than 100 years -- but ya gotta admit, "arm barn" is kinda catchy.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The FBI has arrested 10 people associated with an alleged street gang operating in Louisville named “Everybody Shine Together,” or “EST,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed.
The alleged gang shares its name with famous Louisville Rapper EST Gee’s business, Everybody Shine Together Entertainment. Est Gee, or George Stone, is listed as one of the managing members of that company by the Kentucky Secretary of State.
Stone was not arrested in this case, but two of his business partners, Ricos Mosely and Eric Mosley, were. Ricos Mosley & Eric Mosley, who identifies himself as EST Gee’s manager, are now facing a minimum of 10 and 15 years in prison if they are found guilty on weapons & drug-related charges.
The indictment is the result of a federal initiative called Project Safe Neighborhoods which aims to take out the most violent criminal enterprises in Louisville.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the suspects are charged with crimes like trafficking, drug distribution, & conspiracy. Some of the drugs involved, they said, included heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, & cocaine.
During search warrants, agents confiscated one kilo of cocaine, guns, a stolen car & $160,000 cash.

Lawless is now facing the death penalty in the case. He was on probation for an attempted murder conviction when he allegedly killed Randolph.
Stone rapped about bailing Lawless, who goes by the name of Lil’ Kada, out of jail in a song released in July called “Sky Dweller.” At the time, Lawless had a $1 million bond.
“They want one mil’ for Lil’ Kada, know I’m comin’ to get you, baby,” Stone raps. “Know my heart might get me killed, but it got me here, so risks, I’m takin.’”

LONDON (Reuters) - A British teenager who murdered two sisters in a London park as part of a pact he believed he had made with demonic forces to kill women every 6 months in exchange for a future lottery win has been jailed for a minimum of 35 years.
Danyal Hussein, now 19, stabbed to death Bibaa Henry, 46, & Nicole Smallman, 27, in a savage attack in a country park in northwest London in June last year after they had celebrated Henry's birthday with friends.
Hussein had carried out the murders to fulfil his side of a "contract" with the demon "Mighty King Lucifuge Rofocale", which he signed using his own blood, promising to "perform a minimum of 6 sacrifices every 6 months for as long as I am free & physically capable."
The close sisters had gone to Wembley's Fryent Park to celebrate with friends but stayed alone into the early hours. They took 150 photos, with the last "haunting" picture showing them looking sideways at what police believe was the arrival of Hussein.
Hussein stabbed Henry 8 times and Smallman suffered 28 wounds. After the murders, he dragged the bodies into woodland where they were found intertwined the following day by Smallman's boyfriend.
The teenager, who lived with his mother, was traced by bloodstains found at the scene & was arrested almost four weeks later. The police believe only a hand injury he suffered during the murders prevented him carrying out further killings.
