It's still hard to believe Tupac Shakur is gone. Millions of fans still mourn his death. Generally considered to be the best rapper to ever pick up a mic, he was in his prime when his life was cut short 17 years ago today.
Tupac was not just a rapper. He was also a poet, an actor and at times an activist. His role as Bishop in the movie Juice helped to catapult him towards superstar status.
He also appeared in the films Gang Related, Gridlock'd, Above the Rim and alongside Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice.
Tupac was a workaholic in the studio. When he died he left behind enough material for seven posthumous albums including the classic, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, which he recorded in just seven days.
Other notable releases include the 9x platinum All Eyez On Me, Me Against the World, 2Pacalypse Now and Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. To date Pac has sold over 75 million records worldwide.
Tupac was able to walk that fine line between being a gangster rapper and gentleman. He recorded songs uplifting women such as "Keep Your Head Up," as well as hard hitting tracks like "Hit 'Em Up" during his career. He rapped from the heart and listeners couldn't help but hang on every word.
Quite simply, he was a genius. The world misses you Tupac. May you rest in peace.
