(Chicago Tribune) The Los Angeles County coroner has ruled cardiovascular disease to be the cause of death of Chicago rapper Fredo Santana, according to an autopsy report from the medical examiner’s office obtained by the Chicago Tribune.

Santana was one of the pioneers of Chicago’s drill rap movement alongside his cousin and fellow Chicago rapper Chief Keef. Santana released his debut album “Trappin Ain’t Dead” in 2013 with cameos from Chief Keef and rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Santana was found unresponsive by his fiancee, whose name has been redacted from reports, the evening of January 19. In the days following his death, Santana’s family told TMZ that the rapper died after suffering an intense seizure.

The medical examiner’s report lists idiopathic epilepsy as a contributing cause of death. Santana was diagnosed with a seizure disorder eight months before his death, shortly after he quit the sedative Xanax, the report states.

While Santana was regularly treated with the antiepileptic drug Keppra, he still suffered from “seizure episodes frequently every month … that tended to appear as a cluster of seizures,” the report states. “(He) did not seek medical intervention after each seizure episode.”

Chief Keef’s (real name Keith Cozart) grandmother Margaret Carter told CNN in January that Santana had been sick but had not discussed his illness with his family. In October, Santana posted on his Instagram account that he was being treated for liver and kidney failure.

Santana was pronounced dead on January 20. He was 27.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Three alleged members of a violent street gang in the Hill District — 22-year-old Dionte Griffin, 20-year-old Sydney Pack and 23-year-old Richard Kelly — are now facing federal charges, and investigators are now saying recently murdered local rapper Jimmy Wopo was one of the gang’s leaders.

Authorities say their crimes ran the gamut, from murders to robberies to drug trafficking. They allegedly bragged about their exploits in rap videos posted on YouTube.

U.S. Attorney Scott Brady announced the indictment late Tuesday afternoon. A federal grand jury indicted the gang members on Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, charges.

Brady told KDKA that “the gang has effectively been dismantled…we have taken out its leadership.”

Officials say they ran with a gang that called itself “11 Hunnit,” with most members living on Memory Lane or Burrows Street.

Up and coming Pittsburgh rapper, Wopo, who was shot and killed in June, was named extensively in the indictment. His real name was Travon Smart. He was identified in the court papers by the initials T.S.

No one has been arrested in connection with Wopo’s murder.

The 11 Hunnit gang – according to prosecutors – was responsible for the murders of at least three rival gang members, including 20-year old Christopher Richardson, who was shot and killed in 2015.

Richardson’s mother – who did not want to be identified for her own safety – was relieved by the new arrests, but worried about the mixed message the alleged criminal activity of Wopo and the others sends out. She said “he did a lot for kids in the community, but the opposite of him doing that…he was ordering people’s family members to be killed, my son is one.”

Richardson’s mother said she would now try to get Wopo’s music banned at Hill District Midget Football League games.

Officials say Wopo was one of the gang’s leaders because of his notoriety. He reportedly gave orders to commit robberies or shoot rival gang members. If Wopo was please, he would include gang members in his videos or give them something of value. If one of the gang members fell short of expectatons, officials say he would have them harmed.

Officials say 11 Hunnit was behind a long list of shootings, killings and home invasions in their battle with a rival gang called the “Wavy Boyz.

“As alleged, these defendants are members of a violent gang whose drug trafficking and other acts of violence have terrorized law abiding residents of the City of Pittsburgh for too long: today it ends,” Brady said. “We will use every tool, including federal RICO conspiracy, to put an end to these violent street gangs and offer justice to those harmed by 11 Hunnit and their associates.”

Police said homicide investigations in Greentree and McKees Rocks led investigators to the gang.

Kelly could face up to 20 years in prison, while Griffin and Pack could receive life in prison.

Video After The Jump

State Police have released dramatic dashcam video of the shootout on Route 33 that seriously injured Pennsylvania State Trooper Seth Kelly in 2017. The suspect Daniel Clary was convicted of attempted murder in May. In November 2017, State Trooper Ryan Seiple made what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop on Route 33 in Plainfield Township, Northampton County. Dashcam video shows Clary getting a ticket for speeding, but as the trooper begins to pull away, Clary flags him down again. Trooper Sieple called for backup and the video shows Sieple and Trooper Seth Kelly putting Clary through a sobriety test. The video shows Clary unstable on his feet during several tests. When the troopers try to arrest Clary, he resists and they wrestle him to the ground. Clary attempts to fight back. At one point, the fight spills out onto the road with traffic driving by. Police tried to use a taser on Clary but he gets up and reaches into the driver's side window of his car. The video shows Clary firing the gun multiple times at both Trooper Sieple and Trooper Clary. Both officers return fire and Clary drives away.

Trooper Kelly was shot four times during the exchange of gunfire Nov 7, 2017, on the side of Route 33 in Plainfiield Township. He arrived at a local hospital clinically dead. He spent 12 days in a medically-induced coma and 25 days in the hospital. He doesn't remember the shootout. Houck showed jurors the 45-mintue video of the traffic stop, the struggle and its aftermath. He released the entire video to lehighvalleylive.com. We cut out the approximately two-minute segment from where Clary initially resists until he flees in his car. The video is violent and jarring. Houck believes he could have suppressed its release. But he and the troopers believe it's important that the public should view the video to see just how dangerous police work can be and to see the restraint employed by the troopers before they were forced to open fire. "We think the community should see it," Houck said. Clary, 22, of Effort, Pa., was convicted June 29 of multiple felonies, including attempting to kill Seiple and Kelly. His attorney argued at trial he was scared and shot at the troopers because he feared for his life. Clary will be sentenced Aug. 31.
