Videos And Pics After The Jump

Via Billboard

Some of R&B's biggest stars paid tribute to the King of Pop on Wednesday night. At Billboard and Pepsi's latest Summer Beats concert, Ne-Yo, Melanie Fiona, Swizz Beatz and DJ Cassidy performed at New York's Gotham Hall, celebrating what would have been Michael Jackson's 54th birthday.

The event continued Pepsi's year-long homage to Jackson's 1987 album "Bad," which turned 25 this year and will see an anniversary reissue on Sept. 18. The hit album, the follow-up to the iconic "Thriller," spent 38 weeks in the Billboard top 10 upon its release.

After an introduction from Quddus, Canadian R&B diva Melanie Fiona stormed onto the stage, tackling "The MF Life" track "Watch Me Work" and the retro-inspired "Give It To Me Right" with a pair of back-up singers.

12349477059?profile=original

"How many bad M-Fers I got in this house tonight?" she asked the crowd, before toning it down for "Fool For You," originally a collaboration with Cee Lo Green. Her set spanned the highs and lows of "love and life," with Fiona addressing the "ladies" and "fellas" in the crowd during "Change the Record." Throwing on a glam gold-and-black jacket, Fiona turned to covers of Jackson's "Dirty Diana" and "Bad" as visuals from the classic video played behind her.

12349477265?profile=original

"We're going to celebrate all night," DJ Cassidy said to start his set, which opened with Jackson's "Rock With You" and continued through the King of Pop's lengthy career, including "Thriller" hits and his childhood beginnings with the Jackson 5. After his all-Michael set, the DJ exited the stage to make way for Ne-Yo, who continued the night's flashy fashion trend with a jacket with a sparkling lapel. The R&B star entered to a horn fanfare and his backing band chanting, "Are you ready for Ne-Yo"?The crowd was indeed, raising their smartphones and cameras to get a snap of the singer.

"Because he was, I am," Ne-Yo said. "Happy birthday, Mike." Backed by an array of keyboards and horns, he dove into 2008 hit "Closer." He sang "One In a Million" after explaining that he had "a woman in mind" while writing the track. "I feel like this song makes sense because MIchael Jackson was truly one in a million," he added. Ne-Yo segued from older material to "Lazy Love," a song from his upcoming album "R.E.D.," which he said was likely due in "early November." With his jacket long gone, the audience wanted more.

12349477499?profile=original

"'Take it off, take it off,' calm down!" he teased the crowd. "Ain't nothing wrong with a woman who knows what she wants," he added, before singing "Miss Independent."

His set then stepped into the Jackson catalog, with the band vamping on the "The Way You Make Me Feel" chord changes as Ne-Yo changed outfits offstage, returning in a white suit and tie for "Smooth Criminal." He showcased his dance skills alongside his powerhouse vocals, turning more tender on "Bad" duet "I Just Can't Stop Loving You." "The Way You Make Me Feel"followed, this time without the lengthy intro.

"You don't sing Michael Jackson songs," Ne-Yo said, before the set returned to his own material with "Burnin' Up." "You attempt Michael Jackson songs." He continued to explore new material, bridging the gap between his R&B and pop sides with "Let Me Love You," the second single from "R.E.D."

"I like to call this pop with soul, pop with depth," he said of the new track.

Following Ne-Yo was a hits-laden DJ set by producer-rapper Swizz Beatz, who has produced 14 top 10 singles on our R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. He whipped the Gotham faithful into a frenzy with tracks including Rihanna and Calvin Harris' "We Found Love" as well as favorites from DMX and Rick Ross.

Video After The Jump

One of the hottest young rappers to emerge in the last year has been Chicago's Chief Keef. His song "I Don't Like" took the nation by storm and helped him secure a deal with Interscope. Fellow Chicago native Lupe Fiasco was asked about his opinion of Keef in a recent interview and he gave a rather surprising answer.

"Chief Keef scares me," Lupe said. "Not him specifically, just the culture he represents. Specifically in Chicago and I don't speak this about any other city because I'm not from there. But my family lives in Chicago. My nephews and my cousins, my friends and my peoples... they all in those hoods that he represents when you drive through Chicago. The hoodlums, I don't wanna call Chief Keef a hoodlum, but the hoodlums, the gangsters and the ones you see killing each other. The murder rate in Chicago is skyrocketing and you see who is doing it and perpetrating it they all look like Chief Keef," Lupe continued. "The dreads, it's so visceral. And then when I seen him I was like, 'Oh my God he looks just like Chicago and he looks like my nephew.' He could be any kid on the street. And to hear the things that he raps about specifically. Comparing it to you open up the newspaper and there's 22 shootings this weekend. And the next day there's 3. And you know who's doing it, it scares me."

Jay-Z and Budweiser have teamed up for the inaugural “Made in America” music festival taking place this weekend (September 1 and 2) in Philadelphia. Thanks to a deal with Youtube and Pandorafans who can't make it to The City of Brotherly Love to witness the event in person will still be able to watch it via live stream.

For Budweiser, it was important to make sure the event was accessible to all fans — not just those that could attend in person. That’s why the brand made the decision to work with both YouTube and Pandora to bring the live stream to all fans.

While streaming live events is old hat for YouTube, this is a first for Pandora. Budweiser Made in America marks the first time Pandora has ever live streamed an event.

Even better, Pandora isn’t just streaming the event from its website — fans can tune in with the Pandora mobile app. “It was important that we reach fans wherever they might be,” Rob McCarthy, vice president of Budweiser told us. “Our goal is to reach as broad of an audience as possible.”

The festival will be streamed to the two services from 2pm – 11pm on Saturday and Sunday. Fans can access the YouTube stream at YouTube.com/BudMadeinAmerica and listen to the Pandora stream at Pandora.com/BudMadeInAmerica.

12349465886?profile=original

YouTube clips from the festival will remain available for 30 days after the event.

**UPDATE**

The final day of the festival kicks off at 2 PM Eastern on Sunday September 2nd. Pearl Jam, Jill Scott, Drake, RUN DMC and more will be taking the stage.

You can watch or listen to the event on Youtube and Pandora by clicking on the links above.

Video After The Jump

Lil Wayne seems to be very dedicated to skateboarding at the moment. We've all seen the videos of him doing his thing. He even has his own sneaker line coming out via SUPRA in 2013. Not everyone is a fan though. California rapper/skateboarder Hopsin had some not so kind words to say about Weezy recently.

"Wayne, skateboarders don't like you. I'm telling you that right now," Hopsin said. "Learn, it's cool learn, but don't come out with all this huge buzz about you skateboarding because people like me get upset. And other skaters feel the same way. The only reason skaters hang around this guy is because he's Lil Wayne, but they don't like him. I've talked to skaters, nobody likes Wayne as a skateboarder."

12349459889?profile=original

Hopsin also talked about the current state of hip hop and what he sees as the problem with it.

"What I don't like about the music industry is everything," he continued. "It's very satanic, people are evil. They talks about girls, they talk about things that don't really matter. And they brainwash everybody into thinking this is what life is all about. Rappers walk around with chains and thousands of tattoos on their body. And then youngsters are seeing this stuff and they're like, 'Man I wanna be like that.' It's stupid stuff... there's more to life than that. But the youth has no idea because all they watch is Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy or Lil B or whatever stupid sh*tty rappers coming out doing their thing. It just makes me mad."

12349460095?profile=original

What do you think of Hopsin's comments?
